Picture this: A host of perfect photographs H

AVING treasured memories of your big day is one of the most important legacies of any wedding, and choosing the right photographer is absolutely crucial. Everyone is different, and what one person wants from their photographer may be completely different to someone else, so be prepared to really do your homework and don’t settle for anything less than what’s perfect for you. How should you choose your wedding photographer? In a nutshell, you need to find a photographer who is going to capture the day exactly how you and the groom want it to look. Think about the style of your wedding, and make sure your photographer complements it. Most photographers have their own websites now, so do some research and check out their photo galleries to get an idea of their style. Look out for tell-tale signs, like whether the pictures are nice and clear. Are the group photographs nicely composed? Do people look natural? Do the pictures make you smile? Have they captured the moment successfully? Has every detail in the picture been taken into account? You don’t need to be a professional photographer to be able to recognise the hallmarks of a good picture, and with practice you’ll be looking at photographs with a professional eye! There are a number of different styles of wedding photography, ranging from traditional, posed pictures right through to more natural, reportage-style shots. Both have their own appeal but, rather than committing to one particular type of picture, you could be better advised to find a photographer who offers a combination of both traditional and the more modern type of images. Remember the quality of your wedding pictures isn’t just down to the photographer. You need to work together to produce the perfect selection of shots from your big day. So listen carefully to direction from your photographer and try and help him or her out if they are struggling to get everyone lined up for group photos. It might be worth telling guests they can have some time at the end to take their own shots so the photographer can get on with taking the pictures he wants without everyone getting in the way. (And

FUN: Follow intructions from your photographer and you should get some beautiful shots remember time is money as well, so there is no point in unnecessarily keeping the photographer there!) Top tips: Book early. All the best photographers get booked up fast, so if you want your first choice, you need to get in there early. Search the internet for potential photographers to make sure there aren’t any disappointed brides writing angry blogs about being let down. Ask around and see which photographers are highly thought of. Personal recommendation is the best form of advertisement for any photographer, so use this to your advantage. Make sure you get a written contract so you know exactly what you are getting for your money and then, if the worst does happen, you have got proof of what the photographer promised to deliver. A nice quirky touch to your wedding is to give your guests disposable cameras. Even the best photographer can’t be everywhere at once, and you often get some really nice, natural pictures when you least expect them!

Make an entrance and arrive in style H

OW you arrive at your wedding will set the tone for the day, so you need to make sure you get it right and travel in style. After all, it’s the most important day of your life, so you don’t want to be turning up in an old banger! Take into account the overall style of your wedding when deciding on what form of transport to use. If you are planning a truly traditional affair, then think about a classic car or even a horse and carriage, whereas if you are opting for a more contemporary theme for your wedding then you can really go for it with a fabulous limousine or, for something completely different, how about arriving in a VW camper van? The possibilities are endless and the only limits are your own imagination. You should take a number of factors into account when deciding on what style of transport to choose. Believe it or not, the time of year can be an issue. For example, if you are getting married in the middle of winter, then it might not be such a good idea to go for a horse-drawn

carriage, unless you want your ‘something blue’ to be you with hypothermia! Also, you need to take into account how many people you want to travel in the wedding car. Classic cars can often only sit two people comfortably (and, depending on how big your dress is) this might also take up more room than usual, so you should factor this in and book additional cars for other family members and even your bridesmaids. You should also think about your photographs. A white or cream car could pale into insignificance next to a white or ivory dress, so for maximum impact, why not go for a deep red, a silver grey or a black vehicle? It is worth thinking about any extras you may want to include. Depending on how far you have to travel, you might want your chauffeur service to supply a glass of champagne en route to calm any last-minute nerves. Or you might want to decorate or accessorise the car with coloured ribbons and flowers to match your wedding colours. Whatever it is, make sure that you plan a grand entrance guaranteed to be remembered!

Travel in style with Cartwright Cars

Make sure you arrive at your wedding in style with the following top tips: * Think about the overall theme of your wedding and select your transport accordingly * Take into account the time of year so whatever mode of transport you choose is appropriate * Allow for how many people are going to be travelling in the vehicle and remember to allow extra space for your dress!

* Factor in what your transport will look like on pictures - you might want a contrast with the white of your dress so think about a darker colour for the car or carriage * Talk to your chosen provider about any optional extras such as complimentary champagne and whether you can accessorise the car to add a truly personally touch
