“We’ve always know our readers are committed to their communities but to get over one million tokens has taken even the Examiner staff by surprise. “It’s far and away the best response we have ever had to an offer like this and underlines the bond between our readers and their community. “It’s great that the cash can be spread across so many groups and we look forward to following the progress of every entrant and improved links with some of the new friends we have made. “I would like to thank every reader who took the time and trouble to save the paper, cut out the tokens and stick them in the forms “It is an inspiring effort and I hope you will consider it worthwhile and the money goes some way - however small - to helping improve your community, because that’s what Wish has been all about.” Roy Wright Editor

3 Newsome Panthers JARLFC
Carolyn Barlow Formed in 1995, Newsome Panthers’ main aim was to involve local children in the game of Rugby League. It has grown from an initial group of 12 players in its first season to over 200 players (male and female) currently involved with both of its junior and open age clubs. The children and young people who are engaged in the club come from a wide variety of backgrounds and we pride ourselves in being inclusive to all. The playing fields at Hall Bower sit in the middle of an area with some of the highest levels of deprivation in Kirklees. Run entirely by approximately 50 volunteers, the club has achieved many successes in its relatively short history. Over 30 players have signed professional contracts, three of which currently play in Super League (two for Huddersfield Giants). Over 150 have played for Kirklees Service Area from which several have represented both Yorkshire and England. In the older age groups both current and former players have represented Scotland, Ireland, England and Serbia in Student Games. The Club also encourages and promotes players, parents and club officials through associated courses such as refereeing, first aid, touchline management and coaching through the nationally approved UK Levels system. We collected 21304 tokens We received £505.18
4 Huddersfield Heartline
Mr Richard Brook 23 years ago Huddersfield Heartline was formed with the aim of providing moral support for all sufferers of Coronary Heart Disease. We encourage sociable activity for healthy living. Over the years we have developed the provision of various activities including: a walking group, swimming, bowling, dancing, social events, dinners, lunches (Nosh and Natter) and visits to places of interest around Huddersfield. Exercising is the most beneficial and popular event for our members. A lot of our activities are self financing and unfortunately, the exercising is a costly event which is lowering our funds to such extent that we may not be able to support it. Increasing charges could lose members. We also run a monthly social evening with guest speakers, this is also self financing. We collected 20499 tokens We received £486.09
Andrew Booth Slaithwaite Band has been in existence since 1896 and is primarily a group of amateur musicians who share a common purpose in the enjoyment of music. It plays an important part of both the local and Yorkshire heritage. The band is open to all members of the community. The age range of its members is currently 14 years to 70 years. It encourages and welcomes the youth in the local area to become involved in not only a life-time hobby, but one which can lead on to a professional vocation. As well as learning music, younger members also learn other life time skills such as team work, personal development, responsibility and self confidence amongst others. The band supports local community organisations by performing concerts for them i.e. Lions, good companions and the local care home. It regularly supports national events held within the local community, such as Remembrance Sunday and the Diamond Jubilee. It performs in the local parish church at both concerts and services. In addition to the fees it receives for its performances the band relies on member’s subscriptions to keep its heritage alive and deliver a cultural service to the community. 8 Huddersfield Down Syndrome Support Group
Leanne Davies Huddersfield Down Syndrome Support Group was set up by parents of children with Down Syndrome in the Huddersfield area. We believe it is crucial to celebrate our children’s achievements, champion their views and aspirations, challenge out-dated thinking and spread current, accurate information about Down Syndrome. HDSSG members also arrange social events and activities for children with Down Syndrome and their families. We expect the remit of HDSSG to continue to expand as our children grow into adulthood. We collected 17320 tokens We received £410.71
9 Bradley and Colnebridge Cricket Club
Mark Mitchell We are a local cricket team who at present have two adult teams. We are planning to enter a junior team into a local league next season. In order to attract new players to our club we need to make improvements to the grounds. We collected 15888 tokens We received £376.75
6 Friend to Friend
Linda Dunbar We target isolated and lonely older people who live in the more rural and semi rural areas of the valleys in Huddersfield, who rarely get out to meet with other people. From our beginnings of one lunch club a month in Holmfirth in 1996, we now hold 23 activities a month which include: arts and crafts, armchair exercise, local history, a men’s group, walking and intergenerational work with two local schools. We have almost 300 members whose average age is 83 years old and over 50 volunteers who give up their spare time to provide these activities and transport. We provide door to door transport for every member who requires it within our group catchment area. We collected 17588 tokens We received £417.06
7 Huddersfield Choral Junior Choirs
Susan Wilkinson The Choral Junior Choirs give young people from age 7 and upwards the opportunity to learn to sing and perform to a high standard. The choir sections are trained by professional musicians who are supported by a group of wonderful adult volunteers, without whom all that the choir does would not be possible. All children are welcome in the choir sections if their voices are ready for the songs the choir sings. The choir works with families to enable their children to succeed in the choir. The choir performs locally around Kirklees both on its own and sometimes with other local choirs, bands and orchestras. The choir is always looking for opportunities to widen the experiences of the choir members. For instance five members of the choir became members of the National ‘Youth Music Voices 2012’ as a result of successful auditions, supported by the choir. Music making is an activity that can dominate and shape the mind, enrich the spirit, raise morale and give huge and continuing pleasure. Being part of a choir community, learning and performing music to others, gives individuals confidence for life. We collected 17319 tokens We received £410.68
10 Yorkshire Traction Honley Band
Catherine Lodge (Fundraiser) Yorkshire Traction Honley Band aims to provide quality entertainment with a varied repertoire throughout Kirklees and beyond. Members range from eight to eighty years old of both genders, and we have a Junior/ Learner’s Band which currently has seven members aged eight to seventeen. Learning to work as a team where each individual is a valued part of the whole team is important, as is encouraging each other to progress in order to help make a positive contribution to the local community, which provides a sense of achievement and enhances self-esteem. We do not discriminate against players with minimal ability because within the structure of the Brass Band is room for top, mediocre and novice players. The majority of players live within the local community, all of whom travel to twice-weekly practises and Band Functions in their own self-funded transport. The Band provides free tuition, instruments and uniform. We welcome new players of all ages, ethnicity and background. Some members of the Band do not play instruments but assist on the Committee and in Administration. We would like to purchase 30 new music stands for the Band Room. We collected 15788 tokens We received £374.38

Every token counts our young members to take part in a challenging and varied programme of activities. We own our headquarters which was purpose built, requiring many years of fundraising and opened in January 2009. We have Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorer Scouts for children aged 6 to 18 years old. Our website www.croslandmoorscouts.org. uk, has further information for meeting nights and times. Whilst undertaking the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme, we encourage our young explorer scouts to undertake training to enable them to become leaders within the group on reaching 18 years of age. This has been successful over the years resulting in enough leaders to support each of our sections. Over the years we have also supported a number of young members to enable them to attend the World Scout Jamboree held every 4 years. We collected 8260 tokens We received £195.87
The group’s goal is to offer activities which help to tackle social isolation and loneliness amongst older people. We offer services in Fartown, Birkby, Marsh and Thornton Lodge. We work with many different groups including local schools, Community Partnerships in KMC and local Councillors in the areas where we have service provision. In the future, we will also commence work with the Neighbourhood Police Teams that will involve a campaign to highlight the role of agencies who are tackling crime in the local community and how the public can assist. We cater for children of various ages, Beavers 6-8, Cubs 8 – 10.5 and Scouts 10.5 to 14. In the past we have run various trips to museums, theatres, activity centres, and emergency service bases. We also go camping with all sections, and this gives the children an opportunity to be as independent as they put up their own tents and look after their equipment. We have held a survival camp where they have to be self-sufficient by building their own shelters and cooking their own food, this gives them very good life skills. We also teach how to work within a group as well as individually to their full potential, by doing team building activities and various badges. We also participate in parades and services such as St Georges Day and Remembrance Day. We collected 7785 tokens We received £184.61

33rd Slaithwaite Scout Group
Richard Izzard The 33rd Slaithwaite Scout Group currently have over 90 youth members who take part in fun, challenging and adventurous activities every week! As part of the UK Scout Association the group provides many opportunities for young people.
The Scout Association has been providing service to young people in our communities for over 100 years, and today provides activities and personal development opportunities for 500,000 young people aged 6-25 in the UK in a co-educational setting. We therefore encourage and welcome the membership of both boys and girls. Internationally, Scouts has a membership of over 28 million young people enjoying the benefits of Scouting across 216 countries. Personal development means promoting the physical, intellectual, social and spiritual well-being of the Scouting individual, helping them achieve their full potential. In Scouting we believe that young people develop most when they are ‘learning by doing’ and when they take acceptable risks and think for themselves. We provide these opportunities in a safe manner. Slaithwaite Scout Group is extremely active in the local community, supporting events and fulfilling our Scout promise for the benefit of local people. Money received from the 2012 Examiner Wish campaign will be split between our Group Camp and future international camp fund. We collected 2798 tokens We received £66.35

It enables girls to become part of a team and learn new skills, sports, crafts, cooking, songs, dancing, have adventures and most importantly have fun. We provide a wide mix of activities, from camping, canoeing, climbing and hiking through to games, crafts, visits and sleepovers. Our aim is to help develop young people through offering them opportunities for adventure. On average, this is between £400 / £500 per day trip due to having to hire a specialist coach which is accessible for wheelchairs. We collected 5308 tokens We received £125.87
Almondbury Junior School
Mrs. Heather Wood (Head teacher) We are looking to develop our grounds to run a number of extracurricular family based outdoor activities. The aim is to create an ‘outdoor family unit/shelter’ and garden area which parents, carers, children and the local community can access. Many parents won’t venture into school, often because of negative experiences of their own school life. Using the outdoors would help them to overcome this. The club would be parent/ carer led with children and community members developing an allotment within the school grounds. Children would grow fruit and vegetables to use in school and at cooking club. It would help them to learn about the environment, and explore local wildlife, the weather and outdoor arts. Having the shelter outside would mean there would be no need for access into school just the school grounds, meaning it will be available for other community groups e.g. brownies, cubs, play groups and other local schools to use. This project would ensure these clubs can run in all weathers and it would become a ‘hub’ for parents and carers to meet. We collected 5124 tokens We received £121.51

Every token counts Almondbury South Tenants & Residents Association
Sheila Stott We are volunteers who work for the council on behalf of Kirklees Federation of Tenants & Residents Association, Kirklees Council plus Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing. We keep tenants informed on what’s going on and also encourage them to look after their homes and the environment. We also provide bingo, coffee mornings and galas. We are a non profit making group of volunteers who enjoy doing what we do. We’d like to celebrate Christmas for the whole estate. We have 750 houses under Almondbury South. If we are lucky enough to receive some Wish money, it would enable us to treat them to a Christmas get together. We collected 12132 tokens We received £287.69
Beech Children’s Gospel Choir
Mrs Lynda Liles Our choir was formed in 2000 as part of Sounding Out, a 3 year project, but unfortunatley in 2003 funding streams were withdrawn. By this time we had established a very strong choir and felt that it was very important to the children to sustain. Choir is aimed at promoting children’s self esteem and the it challenges the children’s perceptions of their expectations of what can be achieved. Choir is supported by two members of staff and a professional gospel singer Tyndale Thomas MBE who comes in after school every Monday. We have to pay for the musician every week so therefore are always looking for ways to raise money. We have become well known in the Kirklees area and have performed at weddings, Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, Dewsbury Town Hall Conferences, and concerts within the Golcar area. We get no funding at all through school. The money would be soley used for the benefit of the children in their quest to make quality music whilst enhancing their life opportunities. We collected 13108 tokens We received £310.83
Berry Brow AFC
Mark Dobson We are a long-established amateur football club running three open-age teams i.e. for people 16 and over. A lot of our intake is from the Newsome area of Huddersfield which has many needs and we offer qualified football coaching for any local young people who want to come along. We provide all that is needed for matches; kit and equipment is available to all. We’d like to purchase training equipment such as footballs, cones, training bibs and to help provide coaching for three open-age football teams in a deprived area of Huddersfield. We collected 4272 tokens We received £101.3
Birdsedge Countryside (Becside) Charitable Trust
Steve Sellars Although there are a number of nature and wildlife reserves in the area, none are accessible to disabled people. This project aims to combat that. One 200m path was built some years ago, and able bodied locals and visitors regularly walk round the project, but we want to build additional surfaced paths to also enable disabled access to the whole 12 acre site. Local walkers already make very positive comments about the site and, when completely finished,
it will be a natural country setting that can be enjoyed by the community as a whole, but with special emphasis on access for the disabled. We collected 1072 tokens We received £25.42
Birdsedge Community Art Group
Glynis Storey / June Adamson The group allows anyone from the surrounding areas to come together to draw and paint in many mediums. Members assist each other and talk about their work, but also use the sessions in an informal way to make friends. Periodically professional artists come to the group to demonstrate their skills and advise members. The group has people from some disability groups e.g. hard of hearing, mental health, and older people with mobility issues. In essence there is both a skill element to the group but also, as important is the social aspect for people who otherwise would perhaps not have as much social contact as they need. We’d use the money to buy tables to work from which are light and easy to handle which would allow our members, who are mostly elderly, to set up and clear away themselves. We collected 1051 tokens We received £24.92
Borough of Kirklees Special Needs Squad
Christine Kempley We are a swimming club for young people with a learning disability, providing opportunities for young people to train for, and take part in competitions at local, national and international level. Our members’ abilities range from learning to swim to training to compete. We are the only swimming training outlet in Kirklees for young people with a learning disability. We have three qualified volunteer coaches who teach, train and support our swimmers at competitions. People with a learning disability have limited access to sporting activities and particularly at competitive level and in team sports. Our club not only provides our members with regular exercise but also gives them the opportunity to feel the team spirit that develops through regular training and attending competitive events. For many of our members this will be their only experience of being “first” at something and this gives them a tremendous sense of self-worth and selfconfidence. We collected 10834 tokens We received £256.91

Brighouse Star Twirlers Majorettes
Pauline Ainsworth We provide children with a fun way to stay healthy while learning new skills and gaining confidence. We teach them batton twirling, dance routines
and team building skills, then as they progress, they create their own dance routines and help the younger teams. The group is aimed at children and young adults of any age. We’d like to provide the children with equipment and uniforms to be able to compete at competitions, galas and events. We collected 13732 tokens We received £325.63
British Disabled Golf
Cerise Booth British Disabled Golf has chosen Acanthus Golf Range near Wakefield as its headquarters because of the driving range and short nine-hole course. It’s not just for those disabled golfers with talent but those who want to get back to the sport they once loved or have not had the opportunity to try. It’s a bigger group of people than anyone can imagine. We have targeted the Stroke Association, but there is also the Parkinson’s Association, the MS Society and all of the groups that support those with learning difficulties - the list is endless. We run an open day on the first Friday of every month at Acanthus. We’d like to run golf taster sessions for disabled groups in the Kirklees area, taking them from the sofa to the golf course on a personal journey through a programme of taster sessions, organised
Brackenhall Pilot Company
Miss Margaret Lees Pilots are a church based, non uniformed organisation catering for girls and boys aged 5 to 18 years. We currently have 20 young people who attend. 5 to 10 year olds meet Tuesday evenings from 6pm-7pm and the older age group meet Thursdays 7pm - 8pm. The groups are Deckhands, Adventurers, Voyagers and Navigators. Our church has just moved to a brand new building inside Northfield Hall in Brackenhall. The young people in the older group have been given the task of deciding how best to use their space to the best advantage. We are looking to expand as our target area in Brackenhall now surrounds our new church. We’d like arts and craft material and also a

Calderdale and Kirklees CMT Group
M. Peter Stringer We are a small group whose members have a hereditary nerve condition called C.M.T. (CharcotMarie-Tooth). We meet 7 to 8 times a year to discuss member’sproblems and offer support and advice. We organise social events such as boat trips with Safe Anchor Trust and we’re planning a trip to Blackpool. We need to reach out by advertising to people of all races, the facts about CMT as it’s not a well known illness. There are a large number of sufferers who may not realise that they have the illness. We are a semi-formal group with four officials: Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary and Co-ordinator. Five or six others regularly attend meetings. We send out minutes of meetings, (more like a newsletter) to 20 members. We also report on events at the National Conference. We collected 4299 tokens We received £101.94
Christian African Relief Trust
Guildford Tompkins Christian African Relief Trust (CART) is a charitable trust that sends containers of relief goods to support sustainable, self-help projects in poorer parts Africa and the Indian sub-continent, in order to make a difference to people’s lives. CART sponsors and encourages developmental projects in education, medicine, agriculture and vocational training. Christian Relief Trust is run entirely by unpaid volunteers. The charity supports the local community as its volunteers include people with learning difficulties, students on work experience, young offenders, retired people and people from ethnic minorities. People give talks in churches and schools where they also run workshops. The shop provides a service for the local community and a place to recycle unwanted goods, the bulk of which are re-used in Africa or India. Funding for the transportation, educational sponsorship and project support comes from donations and shop sales. CART would use the wish money to support its local volunteers. We would buy extra safety equipment for volunteers who load containers and/ or work in the warehouse e.g. gloves, hard hats, toe caps and a safe storage cupboard. We collected 5056 tokens We received £119.89
Christians Together Friday Night Project
Captain Mike Smithers CA Our volunteers work in Holmfirth town centre between 10pm and midnight each Friday throughout the year, serving free hot drinks unconditionally to those who make up the weekend night time community. The group has been operating for four years and has developed a good working relationship with the local Neigbourhood Policing Team. Although no offical figures are available, it appears our presence in the town has seen a significant decrease in incidents of anti social behaviour. We are constantly being told by visitors to the town (and locals) that people really appreciate us being a part of the night time community at the start of each weekend. As we work outside all year round we need a good quality pop up shelter to use in order to allow volunteers and those we serve to remain dry in inclement weather. Any funding we recieved would be put towards the purchase of this. We collected 10391 tokens We received £246.40
Clough Head J and I School
Claire Kenworthy Clough Head J and I School is a small, rural school on the outskirts of Golcar with 72 pupils. We are a friendly and thriving school and we work closely as a federation with Wellhouse J and I School. It’s a great opportunity for us to try to raise some money to support our fundraising efforts and to afford the ‘little extras’!
Emley Moor Riding for the Disabled
Pat Hampshire A cheerful group of volunteers enabling riders to enjoy their hour’s session, bonding with their pony or horse and leader. Stretching both their physical and mental abilities. Enjoying the outdoor, working to improve their skill and knowledge and having fun. Wish may enable us to buy more riding hats, smaller stirrup leathers and stirrups for younger riders and saddlery for the new pony. It will also go towards essential insurance and membership for the group. We collected 4924 tokens We received £116.76

Crosland Moor Vets Bowling Club
P. Carroll Capt. We are all pensioners who bowl on Mondays and Saturdays in a Vets League. We are all keen to improve our site and to have new members. Some of our team players are in their 80s and are just as keen to keep fit and active. A cash sum would help towards our aims and goals. We collected 5656 tokens We received £134.12
Crossroads Care In Mid Yorkshire
Fundraiser Mary Rogers We provide care for carers and the people they support. We have well trained staff who care for children and adults and provide care to people with any type of illness or disability. The care provided covers young children, the elderly and end of life care. The Wish money will help to provide more care hours for carers and the people they support. We collected 9900 tokens We received £234.76
Cruse in Kirklees
Gill Herbert Cruse Bereavement Care aims to promote the well-being of bereaved people and to enable anyone suffering a bereavement caused by death to understand their loss. We offer one to one or group support to anyone who needs help to overcome grief following bereavement. All our support workers are volunteers and are trained to Cruse standards. They help people understand their grief better and come to terms with their loss. Since Cruse in Kirklees formed four years ago we have trained over sixty volunteers. Last year they voluntarily gave 5,290 hours of work offering support to 112 people and giving information to 330. In Kirklees about 4000 people die each year and up to 10% of them may need help to come to terms with their loss. Cruse does not charge for its services and we rely totally on grants and donations. We would like to be able to train more volunteers this year to replace those that have left the area or retired – there are people waiting for help who need their support. We are part of a national organisation that offers a telephone helpline and other information as well as training and support to organisations or individuals who are affected by bereavement. We collected 476 tokens We received £11.29

In addition we also provide daycare for babies and children aged from 0 to 4 years, and a holiday club for children up to the age of 8. We are a not for profit organisation. In February 2012 we were delighted to be rated by OFSTED as “outstanding” for both education and daycare. We were praised not just for the teaching but also for children’s behaviour and the way in which they learned to get along together. This provides them with an excellent preparation for school. The nursery is situated in the centre of the village and is very much at the heart of the community. We have a fundraising group – “Friends of Denby Dale Nursery” – made up of parents and supporters, who run fundraising and social events throughout the year to enable the school to buy additional toys and equipment. We are always looking for ways to improve the children’s experience at nursery. We collected 4152 tokens We received £98.46

The Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice exists to give vital support to children with a life limiting or life threatening condition, and their families, across Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield. There are more than 700 children and young people in our area who may need the help that our hospice offers. We currently look after over 50 children/ young people and their families via our hospice at home service. We have recently moved into our new building, the hospice - Russell House, which was financed almost solely from fundraising efforts. Now that the building has been built, the next step is to get ready to open our doors to the children and families who we care for. It costs £2.5 million per year to run the hospice, and with less than 4% of our annual income coming from the government, fundraising opportunities such as this are vital. Peter Turner Formed in 1998 we now work closely with Kirklees Council to restore Huddersfield’s first public park to its former glory. From being an overgrown, unwelcoming place to visit in 1998 it is now very welcoming and interesting place to visit. The management committee is split into groups to manage various activities. The Visitor Centre volunteers welcome visitors, bake cakes and provide soup and sandwiches on Wednesdays as well as organising fund raising events. The Events Team organise all the outdoor entertainment including our Gala day which attracts thousands of people. The History and Heritage Team design and provide information for leaflets, display boards and give talks. The Park team work alongside the Kirklees Head Gardener to weed, cut back vegetation and tidy. The Woodland Management Team keep the vegetation under control. We distribute 7,000 newsletters and are always looking for grants to improve the park. With money from Heritage Lottery, Kirklees Council and FoBP the bandstand was reinstated in 2011. The final big project is to reinstate the pavilion at the playground end of the park and we will be targeting everyone to get involved in this. We collected 10340 tokens We received £245.19

We have all had a mother, father, sister or brother at the home and enjoy going back to see the friendly faces of the staff and residents. We think a Remembrance Garden would be a good idea to help ease the pain of losing a loved one or for residents to sit and think of a friend they have lost. We need to provide plants and benches where people can sit. We collected 9468 tokens We received £224.51

What an achievement in three years. Having said this, the Club does not just want top quality cricketers. We want girls of all abilities who want to play for fun. Next year we hope to start a ladies team so that our older girls can progress to adult ladies cricket. With the Wish money we would look to purchase extra cricket equipment for the girls, and additional adult kit in order to start our ladies team next year. We are trying to raise the profile of the Club and encourage more girls and women to take up cricket. We collected 5752 tokens We received £136.40

Holmfirth Choral Society
Geoffrey Lockwood Holmfirth Choral Society is a community choir of around eighty singers which rehearses weekly at the Methodist Chapel in Holmfirth. It does not impose the ordeal of a sight-reading test nor a voice test on prospective members, and so provides an opportunity, for all who may wish, to participate in high quality choral works. The society produces three major musical works each year. This involves the ever-increasing expenses of hiring a suitable public hall, orchestral players and solo performers. Additionally, the society puts on special performances for charities such as local hospices. In selecting its solo performers for concerts, the society looks towards giving opportunities to young musicians at the very beginning of their careers (our concert last March featured two winners of the “Kirklees Young Musician of the Year” award). These opportunities give invaluable experience and a little muchneeded money to young performers. In November this year the society plans to share the platform with pupils of the choirs of Holmfirth High School. This will give pupils the opportunity to take part in a large-scale work, and will hopefully encourage some to continue with a valuable community activity after the end of their school days. We collected 6440 tokens We received £152.71
Holmfirth Cricket Club
Janet Armitage We are a caring, community focused club set in the Holme Valley run entirely by volunteers. We provide structured, enjoyable coaching for children from 4 years old through to under 17’s. We continue to develop our youth section and junior players are given opportunities to play second and first team cricket. All juniors play in the Huddersfield junior league and some have also been chosen to represent the Huddersfield teams and Yorkshire Schools. Our 1st and 2nd elevens compete in the Drakes League and are both chasing promotion this year into the Premiership Divisions. We collected 1284 tokens We received £30.45
Holmfirth Harriers AC

and safe environment for athletes to participate in a wide range of athletic disciplines. We provide coaching for track & field, road, x-country, fell and tri-athlon. The emphasis is on the individual person and their own personal improvement whether they are an eight year old setting out on their athletic career or a 70 year old who takes part in veteran competitions and is still enjoying their running. We have a group for everyone no matter how fast they can run, jump or throw and with a group of qualified and experienced coaches we are able to provide support and advice for everyone. Holmfirth Harriers is a very friendly club. We welcome everyone to the club and were proud that one of our athletes was selected as the cerebral palsy athlete of the year last year. The club also supports people who want to embark on the coaching pathway or wish to participate as an official as these are vital to the running of the sport. We collected 11336 tokens We received £268.81
Holmfirth High - Malawi Partnership
Steve Cheesbrough We have been supporting Masasa CDSS - a poor school near Mzuzu in Northern Malawi since January 2008. With class sizes of around 50 students and few resources, there was much we could do to help. Masasa is a poor community and the school is not well funded by the Malawi Government. Secondary School students must pay about £7 per term to attend school – those who cannot afford the fees, do not go to school. Without qualifications, only poorly paid jobs are available. Through fund-raising events and donations, we have sent text books, tables, chairs, science equipment and sports equipment, along with numerous reading books (donated by our students and their families) for their students, but they have nowhere to display them. In 2008 and 2011, 16 students from Holmfirth High travelled to Malawi to complete a project at the school – painting the classroom and creating educational resources on the walls to help in lessons. We are currently working on providing a library building (costing around £9,000) to enable the students and the local community greater access to the reading books. In July 2013, another group of 15 students plan to help complete the library ready for use. We collected 3256 tokens We received £77.21
Home-Start Kirklees
Theresa Burke Home-Start believes that children need a happy, secure childhood and parents play a key role in giving their children a good start in life. We train volunteers to visit and befriend families in their own home throughout Kirklees. The families we support have babies and very young children under five years old. They may be struggling for any number of different reasons. For example the mother may be suffering from post natal depression, she may be lonely and have no family living nearby. They may be having difficulties looking after twins or triplets, or need support dealing with bereavement, personal problems or the stresses of everyday life looking after young children. The support we offer enables parents, mainly mothers, to cope better and gives them the opportunity to start to enjoy their children, giving both parents and children a better quality of life. We collected 5092 tokens We received £120.75
Honley Infant and Nursery School
Christine Lancaster Honley Infant and Nursery School aims to provide a creative curriculum based on first-hand experiences. We are constantly seeking to improve provision for our Early Years Foundation Stage Unit. We aim to deliver the curriculum both indoors and outdoors and to involve parents and the local community in our work. Although we have limited grounds we aim to make the very best use of them so the children can learn in the outdoor enviroment as well as in the classroom. We would
like to provide a greenhouse which our children can use to nurture seeds and young vegetable plants which can then grow on into our raised beds. We also need to replace some outdoor tables and chairs which have become weather damaged over the years. We collected 3168 tokens We received £75.12

Cadets can enjoy learning to fly, shoot, climb, and kayak to name a few skills, as well as completing BTEC’s and Duke of Edinburgh Awards. The ATC is a uniformed organisation and teaches young people to be responsible, team players and independent in preparation for future careers. We parade two nights at week. Monday and Friday 7pm -9.30pm. The squadron hopes to update and replace existing equipment for the Duke of Edinburgh scheme that will be more modern and appropriate in supporting cadets through their award. We collected 7726 tokens We received £183.21
Huddersfield Astronomical & Philosophical Society
Robert Williams The society educates the public in the science of astronomy and related subjects. It does this by opening our club room and observatory to the public (we meet every week). At the club room we have talks by both professional and amateur astronomers. The observatory is usually open to the public for 4 or 5 open weeks a year and also for group visits. Last year we had about 1,000 people visit the observatory. The society also runs a basic astronomy course twice a year, held in our clubroom and up at the observatory. We target mainly families but we want everybody to learn about ‘the wonders of the universe’. We have a solar telescope and a normal telescope that don’t have a tripod to put them on. We need a mount for the telescopes and these can then be used up at our observatory or taken to groups. We collected 1232 tokens We received £29.21

Kirkheaton Primary School
Sam Gallant We are a large primary school and we have children from 3 to 11 years old. Our work is based around helping all children to be successful in life. Part of our work is to enhance the children’s life skills and knowledge. We would like them to become more involved with their local community and be an active part of it. We would love to spend this money on producing some new art work. We would love to do a joint project with our neighbouring school Dalton, and our community. We would make mosaics, felts, pots, sculptures, canvases and metal work and put these in and around the school and the community. The work would involve lots of the community meeting each other and working together. We would involve the church, the cubs/guides etc, local businesses and local people. Lindley Lightning JFC
David Edmondson Our club has a unique inclusion policy which begins on the pitch and continues into the running of club. All our signed players play the same time on the pitch irrespective of ability. Our motto “success through progress” signifies our ignorance of teams which are win at all costs, preferring to develop our players individually. As a team, we will deliver long term results and foster a healthy competitive and social environment, which all kids can be included in, irrespective of background, culture, and initial assessment of ability. In addition, players are not held in position decided by the coach, we try to accommodate movement in positions encouraging a natural creative style of play. We need winter raincoats to keep our U10’s and U11’s warm at training through the winter. We collected 4168 tokens We received £98.84

Extra events are a Halloween party and occasional Coffee Mornings. After losing our roof in 2007, we still have a lot to do to refurbish our building. We collected 11104 tokens We received £263.31

We are the only non-commercial provider of childcare in Lindley and, unlike the private nurseries which charge high fees, we keep fees low so to make places available to all. Children over 3 are entitled to Nursery Education Funding and we charge nothing in addition to this. We support children with English as a second language and those with special educational needs and/or disabilities. We employ 6 permanent staff. First on our wish list are 6 large protected display boards and 1 white board. These will be fixed at child height inside the playgroup room and will provide an interactive working wall for the children. Every token counts for granted. Marsden Royal British Legion
Elizabeth Flannery We give Veterans a chance to meet up once a year and enjoy each other’s company and remember their lost comrades. It is a great day for them and a day which they greatly deserve. Money will be used to fund ‘Armed Forces Day Celebrations’ at Marsden Royal British Legion as our other sponsers have had to cut back on the amount of monies they can give. We collected 1272 tokens We received £30.16
Marsden Scouts
David Wilkins Marsden Scouts caters for boys and girls from age 8 when they can join the beaver section, through to cubs and scouts, and explorers who are aged 14 to 18. The young people follow a varied programme of activities including everything from cultural visits, games and arts and crafts, to supporting the local community by undertakings such as litter picking and footpath maintenance and of course adventurous pursuits such as camping, hiking, canoeing, climbing, sailing and shooting. The young people are supported by a dedicated band of voluntary leaders and parent helpers. The group regularly participates in adventurous outdoor activities. In order to do this safely, specialist equipment must be provided. Much of our canoeing and camping equipment is ready for replacement, plus with growing numbers of young people joining the group we require more equipment in order to enable them all to take part. For many of the young people the scout group provides the only opportunity that they have to try out these activities and by doing so, grow their self confidence whilst of course having great fun with their friends at the same time. We collected 6540 tokens We received £155.08
Masters Explorer Scout Unit
Ros Fellows MESU started half way through 2011 when a need was identified to provide Scouting for young people aged 14 - 18 in the Huddersfield South East area. With four high schools but only one unit on the very edge of the district, it was decided another unit should be opened more centrally to allow more young people the chance to access opportunities for personal development. Explorer Scouts of both genders, whatever their social or cultural background, take part in environmental projects, extreme sports, team building activities, first aiding activities, community projects and the Duke of Edinburgh’s award as well as many other small activites which happen week on week which help develop the life
skills. We are aiming to gather equipment to enable us to offer all levels of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award to young people in the Huddersfield South East area. We collected 1892 tokens We received £44.86

Meltham All Blacks ARLFC
Dale Moorhouse We are a local rugby league team based in the village of Meltham. Most of our players live in the village and are proud to play for their village. We have struggled recently but we are slowly turning things around and we are trying to involve local businesses in our club through sponsorship etc. Our new club motto now is ‘Our village -your team’. We would spend the Wish money on lighting for our training area so we can train outdoors all year round. This would improve our skill levels as there are things you cannot do indoors e.g. tackling. We collected 3064 tokens We received £72.66
Meltham Community Pre-School
Jane Morrow Meltham Community Pre-school is opening this September at the Baptist Chapel in the heart of Meltham. We offer a fun and safe learning environment for preschool children aged two years old and above. We have a team of friendly, well qualified, experienced staff and are run by a group of volunteers that includes parents of preschool children. In addition to the regular morning sessions where children have fun, whilst learning to play together and making friends, we have a lunch club from 12.15pm - 1.15pm. For parents with children registered with us we offer a “Drop and Shop” ad hoc creche service for those times when it would just be easier to shop or keep an appointment without a little one in tow. We have just launched in new premises and whilst our indoor room is fabulous we need to create an outdoor play area for our children. The money will be used to develop an area of rough ground into a safe outdoor play space. We collected 4172 tokens We received £98.93

We collected 4192 tokens We received £99.40
Meltham U10s Football Team Sherida Hepplestone We are the U10s age group from Meltham AFC. We are currently under new management and are made up of 14 local school boys, all of which are friends either in or out of school. The majority have played for Meltham since they were 7. The boys have seen two team players leave last year and three new ones join this season. We are always looking for young, enthusiastic boys who enjoy their football and want to come along and play. To us it is not about winning all the time but about enjoying playing football. Our U10s team are in desperate need of a new kit and winter training gear. Due to our local home pitch not being suitable for use last season, we had to cancel many of our home games. Therefore not raising funds from the sale of raffle tickets, tea/coffee and tuck shop, so money is very tight this season. Boys have left and new boys have joined (of all different shapes and sizes) so not all the kit fits the boys. It would be a fantastic boost for the team to be all kitted out in a kit to suit their size and shape. We collected 7968 tokens We received £188.94
Mirfield and District Over 50s Group
Mr R. M. Parry (Chairman) The group meets each Friday afternoon from 2pm to 4pm. There is a wide variety of entertainment each week e.g. speakers, singers, slide shows, bingo sessions and a raffle. During the summer months, trips are arranged to many places of interest with a lunch or afternoon tea. Members meet the cost of these trips themselves, not from club funds. There is always a very successful Christmas party with a buffet, entertainment and each member receives a present. Approximately 70 members attend meetings each week and there is a waiting list. We need to assist with the cost of coach hire (£75 per week) to convoy the elderly (some over 90 years of age) and disabled, door to door to attend weekly meetings. All users make a contribution to the cost from their pensions etc. Without this service these members may never leave their homes each week. We collected 5168 tokens We received £122.55
Mon-Realm
Jean Johnson Mon-Realm is a non-profit organisation run by three single parents who provide activities for children over the holidays. We also hold a yearly Halloween, Easter and Christmas party for local children. We run a parent and child group weekly. We have contributed towards two coaches to take familes to Filey. We also provide our local children with a Christmas present and the older residents a christmas hamper. We are constantly trying to improve our local area and to ensure all our residents are happy. We also link with other organisations to take part in what they are doing and work together to improve the network within Newsome. Due to us having no premises we would use the money to buy a marquee so that we can run more activities for a variety of people. We also had a fire recently and we lost all our tables and chairs so we would also use the money to replace them. We collected 11800 tokens We received £279.81
Moor End Pyramid
Ms J Acklam Moor End and its partner primary school, Crosland Moor, are popular local schools who draw most of their students from the local area. The schools serve an area of high socio/economic deprivation. Our mission is for all young people to overcome their individual barriers to learning whilst enjoying and achieving highly. Attitudes to learning are very positive. We all have high aspirations and expectations that everyone should leave school with the skills and confidence to be able to take the next step in their lives. We pride ourselves on the high quality learning experiences that we provide for students. Paramount to this is the time we invest in building positive relationships with students. We also have the secondary resourced provision for students with visual impairment. The funds would be used to support learning and enrichment activities across the pyramid with particular emphasis on supporting families on a low income. We are also developing a Forest Schools project and it would help us provide clothing and equipment to enable young people to participate and enjoy an outdoor learning experience. Every token counts Motherhub
Katy Livings Motherhub is a group for mums, run by mums with support from mums. We recently converted a disused storage room into a place where parents can come to meet other parents and where we can offer a support network for parents in our community. We also run a website with the aim of reducing social isolation that can lead to post natal depression and other issues. We run a weekly meet up for parents and children, a drop in service for people who need someone to listen to their problems, a dad’s group, talks and workshops. Being a parent is difficult and often lonely. Motherhub can help make things a little easier. We would use the money to install a phone line and internet access for Motherhub and also for the monthly running costs. We would also look to provide training courses to our members who are parents in the local community. We hope to offer courses on paediatric first aid, cv writing, interview techniques, homoeopathic remedies, non violent communication, baby wearing, baby led weaning, baby massage, hypnobirthing, baby sign language, breastfeeding peer support, treasure baskets and heuristic play, knitting & crafting. This would enable us to offer children with a disability to access early years education in a mainstream environment. We collected 7711 tokens We received £182.85
New North Road Baptist Luncheon Club
Mrs Rose Gledhill Around 24 elderly people come for a meal. Last year, we received a grant that allowed the group to hire a bus to go the coast. We would like to go on another outing but we would need another grant. Unfortunately, the money that is taken for meals does not allow for anything else. We collected 4760 tokens We received £112.87
Newsome Pre-school Playgroup
Beverley Dearnley We are a registered pre-school playgroup charity that provides care and education for all children aged 2 to 5 years of age, in a warm and welcoming
environment. We are a long serving community group that has a highly qualified, committed staff team. The setting offers high quality care and education which is reflected in our Ofsted report. The setting is also affiliated with the local Sure Start Children’s Center. We’d like some outdoor play equipment for the children. We collected 4584 tokens We received £108.70
Newsome Ward Community Forum
Julie Stewart-Turner Our group allows representatives of voluntary organisations, community workers and residents to come together, share information and explore ways to support each other. It encourages the development of community based activity, and empowers people to pursue shared passions and fill identified gaps. We have bi-monthly meetings where we explore things of interest to our members and share information about local activities, and then help with the promotion of local activities. Outside of meetings, we are busy with community based activity: we helped establish Newsome Timebanking and Growing Newsome. We work in partnership to help develop a Community Wildlife site and orchard. We support the enhancements of the local church yard and put on an annual children’s Christmas party, and play opportunities for children throughout the year. Funding to cover running costs is very difficult to find, so we would use it to help sustain core activity, including annual insurance, work to church grounds, our children’s Christmas Party and play activity for children and young people. We collected 724 tokens We received £17.17

We work together to bring out the best in them and ensure they have fun in a safe and secure environment. Andrea Oldham (Secretary) The Bowling Club has several adult teams and two junior teams who play in various local leagues. This is the junior’s second year in competitive leagues and they are going from strength to strength, several having already been selected for the Yorkshire teams. We have provided the juniors with bowls, polo shirts and hooded sweatshirts which they have used and worn with pride. We also present them with trophies and awards at the end of the season - which is always an increasing cost due to more prizes awarded! The Club itself takes on projects to improve the Club and grounds, having recently installed a new power supply and refurbished floodlights. Now we are looking at improving a grassed area which is used for car parking by installing drainage and a tarmac surface. The Bowling Club services a wide range of people, from the very young who start in our junior teams at the age of 8 years, right up to the oldest members who play in the veterans teams. It is due to the generosity of our members, local community groups and the council that we can invest in not only the Club’s future but for generations to follow. Yolanda Kenyon Holding your baby close to your body helps with breastfeeding, postnatal depression, bonding, colic, and reflux. Babies carried close in slings and carriers cry up to 50% less than babies placed in seats and bouncers. We are committed to helping parents find the right sling for them. Getting the right fit for both baby and parent can mean the difference between a baby protesting about being carried or loving it. The right sling can mean a mother is free to play with her toddler or make lunch or go shopping without having to worry about space on the bus or ending up carrying the baby while pushing an empty pram, while the baby gets the closeness it needs too. With the right sling you can carry your baby from newborn to preschooler without an aching back. Come along to our twice monthly meets to get a fitted for a sling before spending money on one that might not work for you. We would spend the money on training volunteers in correct infant positioning and buying new slings for people to try out in bigger sizes. We collected 1428 tokens We received £33.86

St Cuthberts Brownies
Amanda Barnby We are a brownie unit in Birkby. We meet every Wednesday and at the moment have 20 girls. We like to be as active as we can as we feel the girls don’t get out as much as they should. All three leaders have run this unit for over 15 years each and would love to be able to take the girls away again as it was so benifical when we went two years ago. We collected 4322 tokens We received £102.49
St John’s Playgroup and Toddler Group Golcar, Huddersfield
Diane Hirst St John’s Playgroup is a pre-school based in Golcar with outstanding ranking from OFSTED. We serve children between the age of two years and up to four years and 11 months, in the direct proximity of neighbouring villages. The management team have been in place for over 20 years, consistently providing a safe, stimulating environment for the children to reach their own individual potential. The setting caters for children regardless of needs, ability and disability. When faced with a child’s needs that are unfamiliar or challenging, staff are rightly trained, research is done and relevant help from outdoor agencies and parent would be sought. We intend to spend the money on our outdoor provision. We think it is important for children to explore and respect the outdoor environment. We’d like the following: bamboo wigwams, shade / shelter / canopy, umbrellas, garden tools, wheel barrow, plastic tubes, pans and tins for sound and a water butt. We also have a small toddler group that aims to give parents and children a couple of hours fun in a relaxing atmosphere. It has children from birth up to school age and Mums, Dads, Grandparents and Childminders are all welcome. We collected 15348 tokens We received £363.95
St Joseph’s Sharks ARLFC
Julie Swift St Joseph’s ARLFC currently run an Open Age team in the Pennine League, an Under 17’s team, Girls teams at Under 12’s, Under 14’s and Under 16’s and an Under 10’s and Under 8’s team. We are based in Fartown and try to recruit new players
from the surrounding area with help from the Huddersfield Giants Community Team. The club is run entirely by volunteers who do everything from coaching, managing teams and fundraising to publicity and financial management. We are hoping to expand the number of teams playing under the St Joseph’s name in the future and are trying to raise the funds and recruit new volunteers to assist us in achieving our aims. The club is proud of its association with the Fartown ground and is working to ensure local children can continue to play rugby league at this historic ground in a safe and supportive environment. We collected 6808 tokens We received £161.44
St Philip’s Community Centre
Mr Ken Shaw Our Community Centre has a large auditorium that seats 200 and is ideal for pantomimes, concerts and dance shows, group meetings and private functions. The stage has lighting and sound systems. Full catering for about 100 can be undertaken from the kitchen. The centre has easy access for disabled people including disabled and ambulant toilets and has its own car park for 30 cars. The centre is run by volunteers from St Philip’s Church. The ‘older end’ are catered for with a tea dance, U3A Woodcarving and Keep Fit classes and Tai Chi. For young people the centre runs an out of school club and all the uniformed groups you would expect. But our main asset is the pre-school Kiddies Club which is fully booked up to 2014. We are presently exploring the possibility of using the ground between the centre and Halifax Road as an outside space that could be used for the children to play in. This would include a vegetable patch to enable them to grow their own food. There is also a long term plan to extend the building to make additional pre-school facilities. We collected 12538 tokens We received £297.31
Talkthru
Jo Naylor Talkthru (formerly known as Huddersfield Pregnancy Crisis Centre) has been operating in Huddersfield since 1999, offering a range of free and confidential counselling and support services. We provide counselling support for women who have had a termination. Talkthru also provides support to those who have experienced miscarriage and baby loss, giving
women and their partners a safe environment and the time needed to work through their emotions. We hold a drop in on Monday, Tuesday and Friday 12-2pm, but appointments are available outside these hours. We provide practical support by supplying good quality used baby equipment and clothes (from birth to 24 months) to needy local families. Baby equipment drop in is held on Thursdays, 12-2pm. We would like to buy a laser printer in order to run the centre more efficiently. We collected 14104 tokens We received £334.45
The Brain Damaged Children’t Charity
John Taylor Our charity is for brain damaged children in Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The charity was formed due to Travis, our grandchild who was born brain damaged. Due to his 24 hour care, we need to help in the constant care of these children. The Elderberry Club
Rev. Leslie J. Noon The Elderberry Club is a community group for the elderly in Birkby, Bradley, Cowcliffe and Fartown, many of whom find getting out and about socially quite difficult. Particularly those who need help with transport. We try to have a meeting/event every 5 weeks or so. Volunteers support us with transport and without them we would not be able to exist. We try to have a varied programme to interest all our members. This year’s Holiday at Home was in June when we had Table Top Olympics (6 winners ages totalled 533), a jubilee party, flower arranging, a canal trip and a member’s afternoon where we brought memorabilia to share with each other. Lunch or afternoon tea is always provided at a minimal cost, eating together is very important as many of our members live on their own. You should hear the chatter. Our last meeting was a belated Yorkshire Day “Ee Bah Gum” and the next one “Home Sweet Home” with speaker and PowerPoint presentation. In November we have a Christmas shopping trip to Armitages at Birchencliffe with tea in the cafe. December is our carol concert and afternoon tea at Bradley Court (MHA Housing) where some of our members live. We collected 5036 tokens We received £119.42
The Holme Valley Transport Scheme
Helen Kitching The Holme Valley Transport Scheme is a registered charity and non-profit making scheme set up to provide transport to primary care services for people living in rural areas who are isolated and vulnerable and for whom the lack of public transport is an issue. The Howland Centre
Margaret Senior The Howland Centre is a registered charity providing arts and crafts activities to adults with physical disabilities in North Kirklees. Our members pay a fee of £2 for each afternoon session they wish to attend. This gives carers the opportunity for respite. We have few paid staff who are supported by volunteers. Our aims are to realise member’s potential, maintain interests, participate in activities and build confidence. We have run successful projects with schools and other community groups, funded by grants, which bridge the gap between able bodied and disabled people and the young and old. We also hold a coffee morning each Wednesday, run by volunteers, in order to raise much needed funds for the centre. We’d like to fund further projects for our members including a field trip where transport would be required and to make improvements to the centre. We collected 2628 tokens

The Joseph Salmon Trust
Neil Salmon The Joseph Salmon Trust offers financial assistance to parents bereaved of a child. Whilst as parents we try to plan ahead for all eventualities, it is extremely rare that a parent makes financial provision for the death of a child. This is where the Trust comes in. We collected 6347 tokens We received £150.51
The Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust
Pamela Thornes The trust is now 16 years old and has developed into so much more than a charity set up as a tribute to a young 17 year old girl who sadly lost her fight against cancer. Although the Trust is not a large charity it is a hard working national charity with its roots firmly based in Huddersfield. There is so much about the Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust that the people of Huddersfield should be very proud, as without their kind and generous support during the 16 years, the charity would not be what it is today making a vital difference to the lives of so many young people fighting cancer. The aims of Laura’s trust remain to fund medical research into cancers affecting the age group 13-24 as well as providing support mechanisms for the hospitals admitting young cancer patients in this age group. Within the Yorkshire region there are only 3 hospital locations, Leeds, Sheffield and now a new unit has just opened in Hull. Therefore these young cancer patients have to travel far to gain treatments for their cancer, far from their home, family and friends. We collected 4936 tokens We received £117.05
The Oliver Field Appeal
Laura Field We fundraise for Oliver Field who is nearly two and has had an aggressive type of cancer. The fundraising is to give him the option of treatment abroad should his cancer return. We are really positive about Oliver’s future but if this does come back, his treatment options in the UK are limited and any money we raise could get him access to immediate treatment as these things are very time critical at the point of relapse. We collected 12884 tokens We received £305.52
The Pennine Singers Ladies Choir
Mrs Linda Cartwright We are a friendly ladies choir of mixed ages. We meet every Thursday evening at Waverley House to rehearse. Our repertoire is very varied from folk songs and classics to modern and popular songs. We also include songs from shows in our concerts. We frequently raise funds for a variety of charities and perform at many different venues. We have sung at many concerts and this year have sung at a wedding. We have also had a joint afternoon concert with a local junior school choir which was very successful. We have recently had a change of Conductor which in itself brings many new challenges. We have 30 members and we always welcome new members to come and join us. Singing is a wonderful and very enjoyable way of bringing people of together and a way of making new friends. The money would go towards paying the rent on our practice venue and buying new music so we can have a larger variety of songs to perform. We collected 6728 tokens We received £159.54

Thurstonland Village Association
Mrs P Lunn Thurstonland Village Association was founded five years ago. During this time we have worked to bring the community together for the benefit of all the occupants of Thurstonland. We have made improvements to the recreation field, provided picnic tables, started a community choir and with the aid of volunteers, enhanced the appearance of the village. We hold village walks, which enable people to enjoy the surrounding area, and produce footpath maps which are popular with many walkers. Money from Wish would enable us to produce newsletters and further development of the website. We hope to keep everyone in our community well informed and encourage others to enjoy this beautiful area. If anyone would like to explore our website further the address is www. thurstonland.org. United Churches Healing Ministry
Helga Taylor We are a local Christian counselling, training and resource centre and we are celebrating 20 years of helping people through difficult periods of their lives. We offer a professional counselling service to anyone in need of someone to talk to, on a confidential one to one basis, and we ask for a set donation each week based on what each person can give. We are also the only British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy Accredited Service in the area. We also have our own counsellor training programme which teaches people from an introduction level through to gaining a Diploma in Counselling, with accreditation from Open College Network. In addition we hire counselling, training, group rooms and sports hall to local individuals and community groups. We have a charity shop in the centre of Milnsbridge. As the cost of running the centre increases year on year, we continually struggle to find the money to keep the centre running, so any contribution we receive from the Wish campaign would be greatly welcomed. W.R.V.S. Over 60s Group
Beryl Crossland Our group caters for the over 60s to 100 plus. Our aim is for people who are lonely and don’t get out very much to make new friends. We have speakers, bingo, quizzes, tea and biscuits and lots more. We are a very friendly group and we think it is important for older people to get out as much as possible; not to be lonely. We’d like to pay for a coach for a trip or a meal out for members. We collected 10944 tokens We received £259.51
Westborough High

Wilberlee is set in the rolling hills of the Pennines south west of Huddersfield in the picturesque village of Slaithwaite. We need your support to help us achieve our “Field of Dreams”. We are working on a big project to convert a field next to our school into a level area for games and sports, with trees and hedging for protection from the wind and areas set aside for nature and for growing fruit. Our aim is to promote the learning and development of children aged 2 to 5 in a relaxed, caring and enabling environment whilst working towards the new EYFS. We are committee run, working in partnership with our parents to ensure continuity of care to enable our service to meet the needs of all our children and their families. Currently we don’t have an outdoor space so we have plans to build a much needed playground for our children. We would like this area to also include a sensory garden, sand pit and vegetable garden so the children may grow their own. We also need outdoor storage for our equipment. Liz Woodfield (Acting Head)
We are a Junior School in Holmfirth, with 207 children on roll. Our lovely caretaker has retired and the bungalow on site is now vacant. We are desperate to convert the bungalow to allow much needed space for our growing children. The bungalow would provide a safe and caring environment for children who learn well and progress more confidently in smaller groups. It is a great opportunity to expand the learning experiences of our children while at the same time regenerating an old building to become a part of our school community. Janet O’Hara The Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA) is an independent charity providing a life saving rapid response emergency service to 5 million people across Yorkshire. Our two helicopters fly seven days a week, 365 days a year, covering a vast landscape that not only includes major cities and motorways, but also rural and isolated locations. Our air ambulances operate from Leeds Bradford International Airport and RAF Topcliffe near Thirsk, and together they cover the whole of the region. The fast medical response that the air ambulance service provides is vital to a patient who has received major trauma. On average, when a patient has been received by the YAA, they will always be only 10 minutes from the nearest hospital and 15 minutes from the most relevant treatment centre. In some cases, this can save people’s lives. To keep providing this life saving service the charity needs to raise £7200 per day to keep both of Yorkshire’s Air Ambulances maintained and in the air. The generosity that we receive is the life blood of the charity and without this help we would not be able to provide the service that we are so proud of.
