MONDAY 29 MARCH TO SATURDAY 3 APRIL, 7.30PM MATINEE PERFORMANCE WED 31 MARCH AT 3PM THE INTERVIEW DEWSBURY TOWN HALL The Interview is a thought provoking play depicting a singular account of the Holocaust. His enthusiasm and personal crusade to show the world why the holocaust happened, is demolished once he comes face to face with Ms Ruben. The reporter transitions almost immediately from interviewer, to interviewee. Ms Ruben’s firsthand account of life in the holocaust quickly exposes the common naivety the reporter shows, a characteristic shared by the majority of modern people to date. This play by Jayson F A Bartlett is premiering in Dewsbury and touring to theatres near you. From humble beginnings he has become a symbol of British music and British landscape. However, it’s not in the Pomp and Circumstance that we hear the real Elgar but rather, and in particular, in his First Symphony, a work full of melody, yearning and triumph, it is a true British masterpiece. Tickets: £7-£14.50 (with concessions) Children free in Area and Gallery when accompanied by an adult, available from Kirklees Booking Offices Pre-concert talk at 6.30pm, free to all ticket holders.

Time Well Spent

The BJC is the second largest convention of its type in the world (second only to the European Juggling Convention) and attracts delegates from across the world, as well as world renowned circus performers. The first BJC was held in 1988 in London, organised by Phillip Maxwell-Stewart (better known as Max Oddball) and has been operating on a yearly basis ever since. It has been held in most major cities across the UK including Manchester, Leeds, Cardiff, Nottingham, Edinburgh and Birmingham. In Huddersfield the Convention will be held at New College, where there will be four days of workshops ranging from Three Diabolo basics to the Five Ball Trick Swap as well as special interest workshops, like Nail-Up-The-Nose and Whip Cracking. This year the Convention is also hosting by the British Balloon Modelling Convention and the British Young Juggler of the Year competition. Also at the Convention site will be the Renegades stage, where every night performers can premiere new routines or perform one off tricks and silly stunts. Traders from across Britain will be selling circus equipment and clothing. Saturday 10 April is an exciting day, when the British Juggling Olympics invades Huddersfield Town Centre with the annual Juggling Olympics. The

Olympics include 5 Ball High Throw, Long Distance Club Passing, and an Egg and Spoon Race. There’s also a chance for the public to take part in some of the Olympics. For the first time ever, the British Juggling Convention is also hosting The Unicycle Trials, with complex obstacle courses for unicyclist and prizes given for the winners. To top it all, world renowned performers are giving a once-in-a-lifetime show at Huddersfield Town Hall in the evening. Tickets are limited and will be on sale from early March.

The 2010 British Juggling Convention in Huddersfield is organised by Kaotik Arts, a juggling and circus skills company based in Kirklees. Established by Stacie Murphy in 2006, Kaotik Arts provides a platform for young people and performers to collaborate on projects and share skills. Kaotik Arts has performed at Fire in the Sky in Huddersfield and at the Imbolc Fire Festival in Marsden For more information please visit the British Juggling Convention website at www.bjc2010.co.uk or search Facebook for the British Juggling Convention 2010.

Kirklees Council is pleased to announce the return of Spirit, Dewsbury’s annual free outdoor show, on Friday 26 February from 7.00pm. Mechanical dragons as tall as double decker buses will rampage through the town centre, breathing fire and entertaining crowds before their final encounter with the dragon slayer in front of the town hall. This year’s show is performed by Spanish street theatre company, Sarruga, who have taken their magical shows starring mythical mechanical monsters all over the world. Cllr David Sheard, Cabinet member for regeneration (North Kirklees) commented: “Last year 5,000 people came to Dewsbury to watch international acrobats, Grupo Puja, and I’m expecting this year’s event to be just as popular. Sarruga’s dragons performed in Liver-

pool during celebrations for City of Culture, where they attracted thousands of spectators, so I’m looking forward to Dewsbury giving them equally as big a welcome.” The 45-minute procession begins outside the town hall, making its way towards the market before returning to Market Place and Longcauseway for the finale of fire breathing dragons battling with St. George. However, there will be some changes to the event format this year due to the major work which is underway at the town hall. As the roof will be exposed, the show will not finish with the traditional firework finale. It is recommended that young children are carefully supervised during the show as the dragons and performers come very close to the audience For the most up to date information visit www.kirklees.gov.uk/spirit.
