Festival in the Park
Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 July Crow Nest Park, Dewsbury Free entry to the festival
FESTIVAL in the Park brings together the hugely popular Concerts in the Park and multic u l t u r a l f e s t i v a l A Wo r l d Together into one big weekend of free live music, entertainment and activities on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 July in Crow Nest Park, Dewsbury. Saturday 17 July, 7.30pm: The Festival gets off to a great start with ‘The Magic of Motown’ on Saturday night– a fantastic tribute show which regularly sells out in theatres up and down the country, featuring the hit music of much-loved acts such as The Temptations, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Stevie Wonder and Jackson 5. The show comes to us as part of its national tour, and is usually a performance people pay to see so bring your friends, family and a picnic to enjoy an evening of free outdoor entertainment. Sunday 18 July, 1pm onwards: Crow Nest Park will come alive on Sunday afternoon with live music, activities and fun for all. Well-known chart acts will perform on the main stage, supported by local performers and bands. And across the rest of the
park there will be children’s activities and entertainment, acoustic music performances and stalls selling food, drink and crafts. Kirklees Council have announced that chart-toppers Roll Deep will be one of the chart acts performing at Festival in the Park on Sunday, with the headline

CHALLENGE – This mountain bike challenge was started in 2006 and the route covers approx 30 miles of excellent mountain biking terrain travelling through the South Pennines of Yorkshire and Lancashire. What’s On is published as a bi-monthly supplement in Kirklees’ four main local newspapers, the Huddersfield Examiner, The Dewsbury Reporter, The Batley News and The Spenborough Guardian. It aims to give full details of forthcoming events in Kirklees. Details are also published in the “Events” section of the Kirklees Council Website and entries are sometimes featured in other media eg: local radio. There is a family fun packed programme of street entertainment over the weekend, including the famous Sunday Family Fun Day. The Family Fun Day entertainment includes a bouncy castle, drum circle where you can take part in creating exciting rhythms, a face painter, juggling things with Crafty Devilz, a musical Maniax show, a henna decorator, Punch and Judy, magic tricks, balloon modelling and deck chairs for you to experience some nostalgia of the seaside. Traditional dance sides are also included in the extravaganza of entertainment on offer, free of charge. Other attractions over the weekend include on Saturday, 3 July, in the morning the traditional parade of Morris teams and street entertainers
who will be parading through the streets of the town. There will be a “Masquerade” theme to the parade fancy dress this year so if you wish you can bring a “masque” to join in the fun. There will also be a festival craft fair, Saturday farmers market and a weekend continental market. Our free fringe events include amongst other things our Festival ceilidh on Saturday afternoon with Brassneck ceilidh band, also singarounds and music sessions in various venues throughout the weekend. Huddersfield Carnival Fri 9 - Sat 10 July Huddersfield Town Centre HUDDERSFIELD Carnival returns! As one of the largest outdoor festivals in the region, celebrating friendship and freedom, it is an event for the whole family. The streets will be filled with colour, music and excitement during the celebration, which begins on Friday night with a traditional Caribbean opening called J’Ouvert in preparation for the Fancy Mas Carnival Parade on Saturday.
