Popular annual celebrations T

HIS time of year brings two major events in the annual calendar, Halloween and Bonfire Night.

Today the celebration of Halloween, on or around October 31, is a major event for both children and adults alike. ‘Trick or Treating’ is popular among local children, keen to visit homes in their neighbourhood and collect sweets. In recent years Halloween has become a much bigger event than in years gone by. The popularity of Halloween has spread across the water from America where this celebration is almost as big as Christmas. Today Halloween parties are commonplace and fancy dress shops enjoy one of their busiest times of year with great demand for the appropriate outfits. Everyone wants to dress as a ghost, witch or vampire to join in the spirit of the occasion. Following on a few days later is the annual celebration of Bonfire

Night on and around November 5 which marks the failed Gunpowder Plot of 1605. Today many people go to organised bonfire and fireworks displays, while others still enjoy a small display in their own garden. Safety is paramount whatever the occasion and always remember to follow the Firework Code and keep safe at all times. If you’re in your own garden, keep a bucket of water close by in case and always keep children well back from fireworks. Wear gloves when holding sparklers and make sure you have a responsible adult in charge of the fireworks, which should be kept in a sealed tin until ready for use. If you have pets, remember to keep them inside when there are fireworks going off as they are easily frightened. Remember to prepare some traditional bonfire food to complete your evening. Enjoy this time of year and join in the Halloween and Bonfire Night fun.
