North Hudson: A great place to live and shop Area proves there’s no need to travel to New York

Reporter Staff Writer Why travel to New York when everything you need is right outside your window? The North Hudson community, comprised of North Bergen, Guttenberg, Union City, and West New York, is a lively part of Hudson County consisting of 190,000 residents, according to the 2010 U.S. Census. Affectionately referred to as “NoHu” by artists in the area, the region is home to a wide variety of businesses both small and large – a selection that adds to its appeal, as residents are easily able to satisfy any need at any moment. Bergenline Avenue, Tonnelle Avenue, and Kennedy Blvd. are rife with vibrant restaurants, stores, and services. With a diverse background – over 75 percent of the residents in the area are Latino, according to the 2010 Census – North Hudson proves to have a rich cultural history, one that is reflected in the retailers.
EATING Looking for a quick bite to eat? Try West New York’s Philly Cheesesteak House at 6012 Park Ave., an authentic restaurant that rivals
Philadelphia’s own steak joints. The restaurant also offers a fully customizable breakfast bar. It also allows customers to bring their own alcoholic beverages. Looking to eat healthier? Two brand new Subway restaurants just opened at 2010 Kennedy Boulevard in Union City and along the continually developing area of Tonnelle Avenue and 81st Street in North Bergen.
A FAMILY PLACE With many nearby schools, hospitals, and daycare centers, North Hudson is also a great place for families. Families can be sure of their safety with their close proximity to the Palisades Medical Center, an award-winning hospital at 7600 River Road in North Bergen. The hospital also is affiliated with the Harborage, a 245-bed nursing home located next door. Parents hard at work can trust their children with the Omega Child Development Center in nearby Guttenberg, a pre-school and daycare center open all year, Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Following pre-school, parents can enroll their children at St. Joseph of the Palisades

For kids – and adults – searching for great workout and the chance to learn new skills, check out the newly-opened Martial Arts World on 32nd Street in Union City. With so many family-friendly locations, it’s no wonder the North Hudson is a growing residential community.

For those looking for further convenience, The Oritani Bank, currently in its 100th year of operation, is a growing company with many local branches throughout Union City and North Bergen, including two locations on Bergenline Avenue.
