ARTISTS’ STUDIO TOUR 2013 Two days of local art Jersey City Artists’ Studio Tour returns Oct. 5 and 6

A LETTER FROM THE MAYOR

Dear Residents and Visitors, Welcome to Jersey Cityʼs 23rd Annual Artists Studio Tour. Jersey City is known as a leading arts destination in the region, and again this year, hundreds of local artists will participate in this event that draws thousands of visitors to our great city. Dozens of studios and galleries are producing exhibitions this year to build upon our reputation as the premier showcase of emerging and established artists. Tour Weekend in Jersey City is a great time for residents and visitors alike to explore Jersey Cityʼs rich cultural offerings, diverse eateries and historical and recreational attractions. The Studio Tour kick-off party, which is open to the public, will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4th at the Tenmark building at 430 Communipaw Avenue, which also the site of multiple group exhibitions. Group exhibitions will also be held at Panepinto Galleries at 371 Warren Street, The Drawing Rooms at 180 Grand Street, and at the new downtown gallery Freshly Printed at 383 Monmouth Street. Also not to be missed is this yearʼs Hispanic Heritage Month group exhibition show at City Hall, which features several local artists and celebrates the contributions of Hispanic Americans to our great nation. At 150 Bay Street, art will be showcased at two dozen open studios, and the site will also be host to this yearʼs Studio Tour Closing Party featuring a performance by blues rocker Eliza Neals on Sunday, Oct. 6th, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Other tour highlights include the annual 4th Street Art & Music Fest and an exhibition of influential Pop Art from the 50ʼs & 60ʼs at Mana Contemporary. As in years past, the Studio Tour is presented in collaboration between local arts advocacy group Pro Arts and the Jersey City Division of Cultural Affairs. I would like to commend Pro Arts President Kay Kenny for her organizationʼs continued support of this annual event and the arts in Jersey City. I would also like to thank The Hudson Reporter for their continued support of the Studio Tour. Their contribution to the tour is significant and vital to our eventʼs success. Jersey Cityʼs artists are a vital part of our community and we encourage everyone to join us in celebrating their creativity and supporting the arts!

Like art? Like to support local artists? ersey City’s Aritsts’ Studio Tour is back this year on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 5 to 6, with events beginning on Friday the 4th. Hosted and organized by the Jersey City Division of Cultural Affairs and the nonprofit organization Pro Arts, the annual event is a free two-day self-guided walking tour of galleries, exhibitions, artists’ studios, and art in public spaces. The Hudson Reporter is a tour co-sponsor. The tour showcases the work of professional artists who live and create in Jersey City, but whose art may be unfamiliar to the larger community. While many sites along the tour route are located downtown, organizers said there will be several dynamic group shows in the Jersey City Heights, Greenville, and Bergen-Lafayette communities. For the second year the tour will return to the Bergen-Lafayette-based Tenmarc Building, at

J

430 Communipaw Ave., for its opening night kick-off party and a series of weekend-long group shows. The kick-off opening night party, which is free to the community, will get underway on Friday, Oct. 4 from 6 to 9 p.m. For the past nine years, Fourth Street Arts has hosted a day-long outdoor live music festival that has always coincided with Studio Tour Saturday. This year the free festival will return for its 10th and final year, according to photographer and festival founder Mike McNamara. “It’s just time to wrap this…event up, and the tenth is a nice place to do it,” McNamara told the Reporter in August. In honor of its decade-long contribution to the cultural life of the community, the festival will go from (roughly) 10 a.m. to 10 at night on Saturday, Oct. 5.

Yours truly,

Steven M. Fulop Mayor
