sports fanatic, city lover, commuter, or lover of the arts, Hudson County is the place for you. Once the home of Lenape Indians and later, blue collar manufacturing and shipping industries, Hudson County has boomed into the sixth borough that Manhattan never had, but always wanted. People young and old flock to towns like Hoboken, Weehawken, Jersey City, Secaucus, Bayonne, Union City, West New York, North Bergen, and Guttenberg for their accessibility, affordability (compared to Manhattan), but also the nightlife, top educational institutions, and familyfriendly neighborhoods. The ever-expanding park space, playgrounds, and dog runs draw families, while adults can soak in the Manhattan skyline views from atop the cliffs or along the waterfront. Foodies can enjoy culinary wonders from around the world, from Polish eats to a variety of inexpensive Latino

home values are rising each year Luxury homes are a bargain compared to Manhattan, and often offer more space inside and out. The median home value in Manhattan is $1.3 million, and Manhattan values have declined 1 percent over the past year, according to Zillow, but that site predicts they will rise 2.5 percent within the next year. Meanwhile, the median home value in Hudson County is $428,700. Hudson County home values have gone up 13.6 percent over the past year and

newcomers should strike while the iron is hot, as Zillow predicts they will continue to rise 9.9 percent within the next year. The median price of homes currently listed in Hudson County is $529,000 Those not quite ready to settle into a longterm commitment and find a forever home can find a variety of properties for rent and won’t be disappointed. In Hudson County the median monthly rent has reached $2,300, less than the median monthly rent in Manhattan of $3,450.

amenities galore Developers have been doing more than just building towers. They have built complexes with community events and spaces. “As trends for urban living continue, developers are creating homes that are a destination where residents don’t have to go out at all,” said Eugene Cordano, executive director of sales for Halstead in New Jersey. “It’s the smart thing to do to create an attractive package to have people come to their buildings.” He notes that developers are creating buildings that are becoming highly “amenitized.” “We are dealing with a situation where people are getting more amenities in buildings now than before, which arguably commensurate with those in

Manhattan and Brooklyn,” said Cordano. Amenities in the county’s newer buildings include doormen, concierge services, gyms, dog walking, saunas, golf simulators, rooftop decks with views of the New York City skyline, theaters, communal fire pits, and lounge areas.

As a professional in Jersey City, you can stake your claim to a lifestyle beyond compare at Modera Lofts. This is where landmark status meets the latest trends – century-old pine paired with polished concrete floors, industrial windows matched by quartz and stainless steel and artist gallery space at your door step. easy commutes and adventures Many people move to Hudson County because they work in Manhattan but don’t necessarily want to live in the big city, nor pay city prices. The good news for them is they are never more than a few blocks away from some type of public transportation. history, art, music and more Cultural and recreational activities abound in Hudson County.

Whether you are at the Hoboken Historical Museum learning about Hoboken’s role as a port of embarkation for WWII, or kite flying in Liberty State Park, or Kayaking in the Hoboken Cove, you are sure to be entertained. Other attractions include Pole Position Raceway, Skyway Golf Course, the Lincoln Park Fountain, Liberty Science Center, and various memorials such as the Bayonne’s Tear Drop Memorial; Sinatra’s home, Carlo’s Bakeshop, and the original baseball diamond in Hoboken. If history and parkland don’t intrigue you, Hudson County is home to talented artists, musicians, and innovators. Hudson County has everything from public murals, designated art districts, and live music at White Eagle Hall, to galleries showcasing new local artists dotted across the county. And if that isn’t enough, towns go out of their way to throw community events such as street fairs, concerts, innovation expositions, Shakespeare in the Park, and movies under the stars. Jersey City is alive with arts events, including near its pedestrian mall on Newark Avenue and Grove Street. The annual jazz festival in Riverview Park highlights national, and international performances and scores of ethnic festivals are held nearly every weekend during summer and fall. The Park Theater in Union City and the Union City Performing Arts Center offer a wide variety of entertainment, music, and dance, while street fairs feature the work of many fine local artists. Hoboken has a thriving visual arts scene with galleries and studios, as well as a number of music venues, including bars and street fairs. Bayonne has an emerging art scene in several galleries and bars, as well as its museum and the Bayonne Community Center. The North Hudson towns, such as North Bergen, Weehawken, and Union City, host art openings, film festivals, and free musical concerts.
