of paper as
I begin to fold once, twice and three times more For with my help paper can become so much more Will it roar like a lion or have the grace of the a crane? Will it be a noble king or a heinous villain? Will it be something to love or something to . hate of someone who has already chosen their fate? So I continue folding four times and five after that For I am like the sculptor and it is the clay and I can choose what will be it’s fate. So I fold a few more times and give it a spark to bring it to life and from paper has come life

This poem is about origami and is somewhat in the shape of a crane because it is one of the most well known origami models. It is based origami because doing origami is a hobby of mine and something I enjoy doing. I have also included it because I believe it relates well to identity. I believe it relates well to identity because it is a transformative art form meaning that although that it changes parts of it are never taken off of it and I believe that identity is the same as this. I also believe it shows a lot about my personality because to do origami you have to be gentle and you have to be able to plan things out. I also believe that this relates to my identity because like the paper I am delicate but also durable. In the poem, you are supposed to get a bit of a sense of mystery because you don't know what the paper will turn into. It does this by asking a lot of questions and uses a few smilies metaphors and juxtaposition. It also uses a little bit rhyming at certain points.
This poem is about nature and how we are destroying it and about how throughout this all water still flows. It is also a poem about how we have to be the ones to help restore it and protect it. This poem personifies the water at many points which I believe makes the message stronger. It also uses a little bit of a rhyming scheme to make the poem flow better. I have included it because it relates to my beliefs about nature because I believe that nature is something we must cherish and protect but others believe it is something to exploit. This is something that is important to me because we are the ones destroying nature so we also have to be the ones to fix it. It is also important to me because one day I will inherit this planet and I don’t want it to be a smoking pile of rubble when that day comes. I believe the author of this poems shares most of these beliefs and that she is trying to convey this through the poem.

Bumble Bee CJ Heck
Today I saw a bumblebee. He was on a pretty rose. I leaned in to look at him
and he stung me on my nose! I wasn’t gonna squish him, only watch and see…
but I’ll never get THAT close again to a grouchy grumble-bee.
This poem is very simple and only has a little bit of figurative language in the form of parallelism. The parallelism in this poem is him calling the bee a bumblebee and calling it a grumble-bee after it stung him. To other people this poem may just seem like a poem about a bumblebee but I have chosen to include it because to me it represents my sister. I have chosen to represent my sister in this project because I feel she helped to develop my identity and when she was born was one of the most life changing moments in my life. I feel she helped me develop my identity because suddenly I had to care for someone else and help to keep them safe and protect them. For example, my sister has the same allergies as me but she hasn't had the same experiences I have had with them about so I have to help her allergies because I have more experience dealing with them. This poem also represents my sister to me because my sister's nickname is B so I have always associated it with bumblebees and I feel this poem also represents how siblings can be annoying to each other and even “sting” each other if they get mad enough. This poem is a great example of how poems can mean different things to different people because I believe the author just wrote this poem to tell kids to be wary of bumblebees stinging them but to me it has a greater meaning.
Tasty Treats Allergies how you bar me from eating. Most all of those delicious tasty treats. That would cause all the rest to go seeking. For those treats that all else seek I don’t eat. For they would cause me to be defeated. But no longer about this shall I fret. And though sometimes this may make me feel cheated. I know it is not something I will regret. But those treats that to others seem great. Cause me great pain and bad maladies. And are something I would hate to have ate. Because I have really bad allergies. And for those nasty treats I do not seek. For I know they would make me very weak.
This poem is about how my allergies and how I love and hate them at the same time. It uses rhyming and a tiny bit a parallelism to show this throughout the poem. I have included it because my allergies have played a big part in developing my identity. They’ve helped to develop large parts of my identity like my personality, fears and experiences. My allergies have shaped my personality by making me a more cautious and careful person. It has also had a large part on my experience because when I have allergic reactions they are memories that stay burned in my mind and things that I don’t easily forget. They have also really shaped my fears because having allergic reactions is really scary and one of my biggest fears is actually having allergic reactions. It is for all these reasons that I have included this poem in my anthology.
Buds begin to grow, As spring comes bringing warmth And the thaw ends snow
Frozen breath let free Exhaling in the endless nights, Snow falls at my feet
Trees of golden hues Signal the coming of fall, Leaves crunch underfoot
Chilled hands and toes Frozen by winter’s cold hug, A warm bed’s embrace
These haikus are about different places I’ve been to or the different seasons that I have experienced here in Calgary. I have included them in my anthology because I believe that where you live is part of your identity and because I believe that many of these places have shaped my ideals and how I want to live my life. Some of the places that have had the biggest impact on my identity are Victoria which is represented by the haiku about the breakwater and my grandparent's house which is represented by the poem about the old house in the plains. These places have shaped my identity because they have had a big impact on my ideals because due to these places I know I want to live a quieter life and I know that I would like to live by the sea at some point in my life. These places are also places that I hold dear to my heart because I either feel safe there or it’s a place that calms me. The rest of the poems refer to the different seasons in Calgary and how I feel about them. Like how I feel that winter is endless darkness or how I feel that autumn is quite beautiful and full of colours. Although these poems are short they do have some figurative language in the form of personification.
The ocean breathing, As its chilly breath comes and Crashes with the breakwater
Golden trees let loose Their leaves as the chilled wind comes, Autumn has begun
An old house in the Windswept plains of golden grain, Safe from the world
Dirt between my toes, Another dry month waiting For the rain to show
Feel the ocean as it breathes
Shivering teeth
See the mountains where they meet
Smothering me
As the wind fends o the waves
I count down the days
Heavy stones fear no weather
I find comfort in the sound
And the shape of the heart
How it echoes through the chest
From under the ground
As the hills turn into holes
I fill them with gold
Heavy stones fear no weather
From the rain comes a river
Running wild that we create
An empire for you
Illuminate there is a river
Running wild that will create‌
Empire
This poem is the form of a song. It is a song is about persevering even if it feels like the whole world is against you and nothing is going your way. It is also about a song about turning your failures into successes and turning things that would usually be negative into something positive. An example of this is when the rain creates an empire for him. The song uses lots of personification, in the beginning, to show how nothing is going right and then, later on, it uses lots of repetition.
I chose this song because it is by one of my favourite bands and because it relates to my identity. This song relates very strongly to my personality in that I don’t give up easily and always try and persevere and how I am also generally a very happy and optimistic person. I also believe the song creates very beautiful imagery in your head.
Perks Of Having A Friend
Justin Raphael Lopez Gutierrez Sharing sorrows, sharing needs, Sharing happiness, exchanging deeds, These are things shared by good friends, Friends to be with you until the end. A person to confess to, A person from whom you will never hide, Though trials may be in the way, By your side a friend will stay. Oh, how good it is to have a friend To walk with you until time ends.
This poem is about friends and I believe when the author wrote this he wanted to show how important it is to make and keep good friends. It uses rhyming and repetition at the beginning of sentences. It is a poem about good friends and how they will stand with you through the good times and the bad and about all the perks of having them. This poem is included in my anthology because I share the author's opinion about friends and how important it is to have them. I have also included it because I believe my friends have helped to develop parts of my identity like my opinions and even my personality. I also believe that friends that will stand with you no matter what are essential to life and that they can get you far in this world. I also don’t think anyone should ever have no friends because I don’t think anyone deserves to be alone in this world.
How Do I Love Thee? Elizabeth Barrett Browning, How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. I love thee to the depth and breadth and height My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight For the ends of being and ideal grace. I love thee to the level of every day’s Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light. I love thee freely, as men strive for right. I love thee purely, as they turn from praise. I love thee with the passion put to use In my old griefs, and with my childhood’s faith. I love thee with a love I seemed to lose With my lost saints. I love thee with the breath, Smiles, tears, of all my life; and, if God choose, I shall but love thee better after death.
This poem is meant to be a love poem about how much one person can love another. But to me it is a poem about a parent’s love for their child. I believe it took on this meaning for me because I heard it a lot as a child and it was always shown in that context. I have put it into my anthology because I believe it shows how important family is to me and how my parents are especially important to me. I have also included it because out of everything I believe my family has had the biggest impact on my identity and have helped to shape large parts of it. They’ve shaped things large and small about my identity things like my name, my politics, my values, and even things as big as my morals. This poem uses rhyming, repetition in sentence structure and a little bit of juxtaposition in it for figurative language.
On Golden Wings By Hue If I had wings like Noah's dove I'd fly the sky's so high above And on golden wings I'd fly the world And oh the places I'd go So far from all those I know And all the places I'd see That I would never otherwise be Later I'd fly to the stars up high So I could have a quiet place up in the sky A place too quiet for even me A place only the lonely would ever be Then Id fly down from my place above And back to all those I know and love And wrap my wings around the world so tight To keep them safe throughout the night A place where Id never be alone again Because I'd be with my family and friends And keep them safe until time's end
This poem is about my what I would do if I had wings and everything that I would do.
Although that is what this poem seems to be about on a quick look it is actually about
what I want to do with my life and my ideal life. It connects to many different par ts
of my identity such as my aspirations and values. It connects to my values because it shows that I value my family above almost everything else and how I value being in a
place I know. It also shows my aspirations because it shows that I want to travel the
world and but that I also want to live close to my family. It uses rhyming and allusion as figurative language. This poem has two references to other pieces of literature it
refers to Oh the P laces You’ll Go by Dr Seuss in the line where I say oh the places I’ll go. It also refers to a lesser known American folk song in the first line. This song is called Dink’s Song and it par tially inspired the idea behind this
poem especially the version by Oscar Issac and Marcus Mumford. This poem is really just supposed to showcase my ideals and how I want to live my life.
Home
By Hue Although so far from home I know I shall roam. There is no doubt in my mind that I won’t be alone. And although so far from home is where I will roam. I know home will never be far and I shall never be alone. As long I am with the ones I love and know.
This is a poem about the concept of home and how it can be place or the people you're with. This poem focuses on how I interpret the concept of home and what it is to me. In this poem I talk about how even though I will travel far from my home as long as I am with the one I love I will never be very far away from it. It has been included in my anthology because I believe my interpretation of this concept show a lot about how I feel about family and about my values in life. I wrote it because to me family is very important in fact it is one of the most important things to me. I have also included I value family above anything else and I believe I needed to show that in my anthology. It uses only a few forms of figurative language in the form of rhymes.
