The USTREAMTV office features Turnstone Bivi desk systems and each of the broadcast rooms have colors and furniture to correspond to their specific decade.

about Ustream TV, located in the SOMA neighborhood of San Francisco, California was the first HD Broadcast TV Company originally created so that troops overseas could broadcast live to loved ones. My design goals at USTREAM were to focus on enhancing the work environment for all employees creating a comfortable place to work. Along with innovation and organization, this design is inspired by the company being a pioneer in the evolution of television throughout the decades. I brought this idea to life through use of color, and adaptation, much like USTREAM has done as a company paving the way for high definition live broadcast television. The floorplan goals for this office were to create linear easily accessible pathways, and to maximize workspace. The employees requests for the new office design were to keep their collaborative work environment, allow for an adaptable meeting space to house 55+ people for weekly meetings and to integrate cord management systems. The company also wanted to create a new logo which can be seen in the entry designed to imitate a film ribbon being folded into the shape of a U. The added curtains, expanded conference spaces and new private work rooms allow employees to have access to more private areas for client phone calls and daily client conferences. Also when visitors are in the office they are able to see the open broadcasting rooms while the company is streaming live videos. In the adaptable collaborative area employees have the option of using standing work stations or the lounge seating area to also take advantage of their beautiful view of the city. Also seating was added to the kitchen area to allow employees to have lunch away from their desks. Modular furniture is used in the conference rooms so that more stools can be added as needed without rearranging the rooms. The recreational area also received a half wall to help mute sounds and an employee bike and storage area was added so that employee work areas would be free of debris to allow for more accessible walkways.

A On the North side of the office, standing workstations can be utilized when employees wish to be away from their usual workstations. B The entry uses wallpaper to mimic lines that use to be seen on televisions along with USTREAM logo. C The collaborative work area features removable sound panels and stools that can be positioned for meetings. D The half height reception wall to allow privacy at workstations. The East Elevation has decade inspired paint colors and retractable colorful curtains to allow for semi-privacy as needed.

about The Quarry is a kitchen cabinet, tile, stone and wood showroom located in the Dogpatch neighborhood of San Francisco. The main goals of the client were to create a showroom that is welcoming to interior designers that allows them to easily see all of the products carried at the showroom, as well as provide an entertainment space for cooking demos and wine tastings. Along with the design of the showroom, the client requested a new branding identity for the showroom to separate it from his other tile showroom in the area. The inspiration for the design of The Quarry came from brainstorming about the way that the materials carried in the showroom are extracted. During the site visit I thought it was unique that the showroom had large windows to look into the very industrial shop area where granite slabs are being cut. Also considering the need for an inviting showroom, and the idea of Industrial Chic delivers a sleek new approach to timeless utilitarian style. Upon entry to the space, guests are greeted at the reception desk and walked in a circular flow through the showroom to ensure that clients can see everything the showroom has to offer. The largest kitchen display is also a live kitchen to bring guest chefs into the space to host events which is convenient next to the living room style conference area and the wine bar. The back wall display features sliding doors showing large tiles along the back wall to easily access large tiles and it provides clients with an area to be interactive with the displays. The smaller wood and tile samples are stored on palate shelving. The cabinets and flooring materials are all products sold in the showroom to increase the visibility of products in the showroom. The client wanted to have an aspect of the showroom that would be able to get people into the space for longer periods of time to increase visibility, and my design solution for this was to use colored floor tiles in the middle of the showroom to create a large scrabble board. This not only shows the versatility of the tiles in the store but it also becomes a fun game to play during the events the client wants to have in the space.

about

The Suver household is located in the beautiful countryside of Tualatin Oregon. The couple purchased a 1.5 acre lot which they wanted to build a 5,000 sq foot home on. The design goals for the residence were to create a welcoming home that the couple could invite friends over to entertain. The multi-level home has three main lounge spaces and a full wine bar which are perfect for wowing guests and the additional two bedrooms upstairs allow plenty of private space for guests to stay while visiting. With the master suite on the main floor, the couple will be able to stay in their home longer in the future and get to enjoy the forestry on the east side of the property from the master suite. The residents were interested in using local and organic products in their home and much of the materials and decor found throughout the house meet these requests. The house features custom artwork and paneling made locally in Portland Oregon. The first floor features a large open kitchen with a sunken large formal living room. The kitchen also has a fireplace separating the kitchen and the living room with an informal dining area. The formal dining area is on the south side of the house conveniently next to the entry and half bath. There is an office on the North side of the house with patio doors outside and has an open fireplace as well between the office and living room. The second floor of the house has an open walkway with a view of the entry and second living room. There is a breezeway between the cinema room and the wine cellar, as well as the guest rooms and restrooms to allow privacy for guests.

C A FIRST FLOOR PLAN

In the front of the cafe the statue is a bell that guests ring upon arrival to mimic the welcoming at Burning Man.

about Playa hotel is conveniently located in the Mid-Market neighborhood of San Francisco. After researching the location, and finding out that the Burning Man Project headquarters is on the same street two blocks away, I wanted to create a hotel that celebrated the neighborhoods commitment to the art world and the history of Burning Man starting in San Francisco. I used the concept and principles of Burning Man to create Playa, which is named after the center point of Burning Man where everyone comes together to celebrate the main events. Playa has a large outdoor space where performers can practice their acts for Burnint Man, and hotel guests or people passing by can sit comfortably and watch. There is additional private performance practice spaces on the second floor of the hotel. The entry into the hotel features a long walk up similar to the two mile driveway at Burning Man in Nevada. Once guests walk into the door, just like arrival at Burning Man, they ring a bell are welcomed. Then, they are walked through the metal mural wall to the front desk to check in. The lobby also has a sunken conversation pit, with a fire place and modular sofas where guests can meet eachother. The second floor of the hotel has an open walkway to see below as well as a yoga reflection area and a large open area for nightly dancing and celebrating. The third floor features a double height ceiling gym with an outdoor community garden facing the city. The third floor has group loft rooms that can be rented for company trainings and large group events. The tower of rooms begins on the 4th floor which uses sustainable materials and local artists artwork in the rooms. Each room has hammocks in the windows to maximize living space. The rooms are designed to have minimal materials to allow for easy cleaning, also guests upon departure can drop their burnable materials in the collection bins above the lobby so that the customers are practicing the Burning Man principle of leaving no trace. The logo for Playa was developed from the map floorplan of Burning Man along with the logo for the event. Overall the goal of this hotel is to provide the Burning Man experience for every guest that stays in Playa.
