about me

Since 2018, I participated, as co-author, in the edition of 6 books of photography with the theme landscape. hues & pixels photography group

My name is Alexandra, I was born in Oporto, Portugal, 66 years ago and I’m a very recently retired medical doctor. My interest in photography started in 1980 when I bought my first analogue camera, a Nikon FM. At that time, without any experience, I limited myself to taking travel and family photography, and later I dedicated myself to nature macro photography with a digital Canon camera. In 2017, enjoying traveling and feeling that I needed to broaden my horizons and knowledge, I took (the first of several photographic trips that followed) my first photographic trip to Scotland and the Isle of Skye together with a group of landscape photographers, a place that revisited in 2022.

With this trip, I woke up to landscape photography, which has become a passion for me. Locations such as Dolomites in spring and summer, Iceland in summer and winter, Lofoten, Azores Islands, Netherlands, and several workshops followed.

The physical demand to reach some spots has been a great challenge that forces me to make some effort compensated by the final prize of the ecstasy of the photographic memory of what nature is so beautiful in its space. Arriving at the place, it is necessary to prepare the best framings, and sunrise and sunset are my favorites hours due to the magic of the light that it brings. Whenever the environment is right, I like to do long exposures.

While my profession demands long hours and high-stress levels, I found solace in photography. During the Pandemic, working 7 days a week, unfortunately I had to take a break from photography for two years. Self-learning and sharing knowledge with other colleagues led me to acquire and perfect some photography and post-editing techniques.

Another way of learning is to see and appreciate the work of other leading photographers. Through my photography, I hopes to inspire others to appreciate the world’s natural wonders and the therapeutic power of photography.

Since 2018 I have a Nikon 750D and use the lens Tamron 15-24 SP f/2.8; Tamron 24-200 SP f/2.8 and Tamron 70-200 SP f/2.8. My filters, indispensable, are Haida M15 CPL, soft grad ND, reverse grad ND, hard grad ND and two ND for long exposures.
