Unfortunately our last home game we suffered a heavy defeat against our league rivals, Ashford United. On the pitch we just weren't at our usual best and it showed, today it’s imperative our boys deliver and I know from speaking to them they are chomping at the bit. No one likes to lose and it hurt even more because we had an incredible crowd of 1,189. It’s great to see the town start to take interest in this club and we urge you all to keep supporting and talking about what’s happening here. Word of mouth is vital and the Hastings United story needs to be talked about in coffee shops, pubs, newsagents and everywhere else we

We are the biggest club in East Sussex and we haven’t scratched the surface yet, even as CEO coming in whilst a season kicked off I don’t feel like I’m at the levels I can be for this club so believe me when I say your continued support of the board and I will inspire even more over the seasons and seasons we plan to be here. Good afternoon and welcome to the Pilot Field for today’s game. You’ll hear me today as I am the PA announcer here at Hastings United. On 24th April, the day before our final home game against Guernsey, I will be walking up Snowdon in aid of a local charity, You Raise Me Up. ‘You Raise Me Up’ was founded in June 2011. The charity’s sole purpose is to raise funds to support families that have suffered the loss of an adult child between the age of 16 and 25 and to be able to provide compassion, support and simply to be able to say “we totally understand” rather than “we cannot imagine what you are going through!” On average it costs the charity £3500 to support a bereaved family for 1 year. The charity is entirely funded through charitable donations and fundraising events. My aim is to raise £1000 for You Raise Me Up.
If you are able to spare any amount, however small, it will go to a good cause who provide counselling and financial support to families who have lost a young child or adult. We have friends who have benefited from their support and I am trying to help in my own small way. GUT FEELING Simon Stoddart A light hearted – and on many occasions, anything but light hearted, look at life here in what is now known as the BetVictor Isthmian League's South Eastern Division. My rants and raves are not connected with the club in any way. My notes are being prepared in 30 degrees of Philippines heat with regular temperature calming slurps of cold San Miguel. Sadly my latest sojourn here in South East Asia comes to an end in a couple of days with the big bonus being I can get to see a game instead of wearing out the refresh facility on my phone. Nothing beats being there, seeing the game, getting into the atmosphere but it's all a whole lot easier to follow the U's from afar than it used to be. Give it another 5 years and you'll be watching semi pro games live on your phone and reading your on line match day programme (that is already creeping into semi pro football). Things have already moved on so much. You'll quite likely be up to date on the latest league table before you step out into Elphinstone Road a few minutes after the final whistle. Ha - those days 30 - 40 years ago when old Curly would be surrounded opposite Dimarco's fantastic cafe on the corner of Wellington Square, flogging the Saturday Evening Argus with all the results. Dimarco's again on the Sunday morning, excessive fry up and it was either the Sunday Mail or Sunday Express with comprehensive semi pro results, gates, tables etc etc. There was a no more perfect way to clear out the effects of Saturday night's excesses. Something that never changes though. Being at a game. Love it. Great to be at the Pilot Field this afternoon - or, er, it will be after 14 hours airborne on Thursday. 16

Recent bad weather has caused lots of damage around the semi-pro infrastructure - as our old Southern League East sparring partners can testify at Wisbech Town.
HAPPENS TO US ALL Well it does. Any club - possible exception of an outstanding Jurgen Klopp Liverpool - that sets the pace, goes through a series of wobbles. We haven't been winning big lately and it's frustrating that having opened up a decent 6 point gap not so long ago, we've been caught up by Ashford with Whitehawk, Cray Valley and Herne Bay right in there too. But look at the recent games. Herne Bay, Whitehawk and Ashford in the space of 3 weeks. VCD are no walkover - Herne Bay now know that and a difficult difficult afternoon recently against a decent Haywards Heath side that showed just that by drawing at Ashford a week ago. Throw in a hard game at a vastly improved Sevenoaks and no doubt about it, United have been through some tough games of late and while a single point return from our last two games is hugely disappointing, we are
equal top. Last weekend when Storm Dennis (who dreams up names for bad weather I know how I describe it .... ) did its worst, results couldn't have been better. The end of February looms and we've lost a couple of games all season. Could be a whole lot worse. Same for Worthing in the Premier re wobbles. Six or seven points clear, then successive home defeats by Cray Wanderers and Folkestone Invicta, winning goals in the last couple of minutes. Healthy lead trimmed right back to two points. Look how well Cray and Horsham are doing after going up last season. Frustrating in a way. We gave Worthing two hard FA Cup games earlier this season, they have been a decent side since Adam Hinshelwood moved there after his short spell here. But getting out of this league to have a crack at Premier football is so tough to do.
Wisbech's wrecked stand was only put up in 2010. This was the same end in 2002 as Hastings Town went a goal up on their way to a 4-2 win and the Southern League East title ...

STEP 3 RELEGATION MINI LEAGUE So, as set out in the Ashford programme recently, ten clubs will be relegated from the 4 divisions above us at Step 3. The bottom 2 from each league plus 2 more who's fates will be decided on points per game (ppg) over the season. The four sides that finish 3rd from bottom will form a mini league and the two that finish bottom will go down. As of last weekend that mini league looked like this:Atherton Collieries (Northern Prem) Walton Casuals (Southern Prem S) Corinthian Casuals (Isthmian Prem) St Ives (Southern Prem C)

And if they finish up like that, Corinthian Casuals and St Ives would go down with the 8 clubs that finished in the bottom two slots of those divisions. Play-offs are bad enough, ppg is worse depending on what issues it is used to resolve. At least we don't get the fatuous situation of playoff final winners not being promoted as we saw last season. On the subject of relegation, East Grinstead are giving it a go at last. A local derby win at Three Bridges gave them their first league success of the season a fortnight ago. And three days later it was 2-2 in the return fixture. The Wasps will be feeling a bit better now. Remember that whoever finishes bottom of this division plays-off against a Step 5 side as part of a classic FA boffin exercise in needless interference. Finishing bottom of a league is pretty conclusive and needs no tinkering around with by someone behind a desk at FA HQ. No way would this be imposed on the full-time game. It's only Non-League eh! 18

Yes. Time to get back on track. The Ashford result was a big disappointment whether here or 7 - 8 thousand miles away. On a personal basis, England winning the rugby at Murrayfield made up a little little bit for it, last weekend's results did us no harm at all and we have a decent side that will want to get going again. Should be another decent gate today, Sittingbourne have dedicated vocal support, so it should be a lively afternoon. GUT FEELING

SITTINGBOURNE FC HISTORY
The club was started as Sittingbourne United back in 1881. In 1886 it became Sittingbourne Football Club and played at the Bull Ground in the centre of town. 1892 the club gained senior status.
More money flowed in with the £21,000 sale of Neil Emblen and Mickey Harle to MilIwall before the bubble spectacularly burst. Debts of more than £1 million were revealed, the team got relegated, the ground was closed for a while despite the intervention of the local council in taking it over, and the club was officially wound up.
The club won its first major title in 1897/98 when it won the Kent League. The Kent Senior Cup followed in 1902.
Somehow Sittingbourne have survived it all and even got back to the Southern Premier Division during this traumatic time (in Steve Lovell’s first spell as manager), finishing an equal highest ever eighth before the financial problems again began to bite and relegation followed.
After the First World War more senior cup and league titles followed with the club also enjoying the first of three spells in the Southern League. Success followed and in another spell in the Southern League Sittingbourne twice in succession missed promotion to the Premier Division only on goal average.
A new management committee headed by Andy Spice made great strides in tackling the debt problem and getting Sittingbourne Football Club back on an even keel financially. To ensure survival of the club, the decision was made to move out of the imposing main stadium and move to another pitch on the complex.
The club reached the first-round proper of the F.A Cup in 1962 but lost 3-0 at Hinckley Athletic. Back in the Kent League Sittingbourne were one of the strongest teams throughout the 1970s and 1980s in an era - unlike the one that followed, when what happened on the field got more attention than what went on off it! In February 1990, the club decided to sell its town centre Bull Ground (now Sainsbury's supermarket) and buy a 23-acre site on the town's Eurolink estate. A magnificent stadium with a 2,000 seater stand, restaurants, bars, sumptuous dressing rooms, greyhound track and training pitches was the envy of non-league football. There was success too, on the pitch when, in their first season at Central Park, Sittingbourne won the Winstonlead Kent League without losing a game - the only senior football team throughout Europe to achieve that feat in the 1990/91 season. Promotion to the Beazer Homes Southern League followed with the championship of the Southern Division secured in 1993 followed by promotion to highest level achieved by the club since it's foundation in 1891. The ground record was broken five times during that one season with 5,951 spectators watching a friendly with Spurs and more than 3,000 at the match with local rivals Gravesend - a Beazer Homes Southern record.

Because of the FA reorganising the leagues Sittingbourne faced a brand new challenge playing a number of “unknown” teams in the Ryman Isthmian League for season 2006-2007. The 2009-10 season, was one of the best since the financial problems, Sittingbourne being in play-off contention for much of the time but failing at the end. Still, a 9th place finish was no disgrace and for the first time in 50 years, Sittingbourne won the Kent Senior Cup in front of 618 at Folkestone Invicta. For the 2013-2014 season, Sittingbourne decided to leave their home of 10 years and accept an invitation to move to Woodstock Park a 14-acre area with superb social facilities. Andy Spice, who almost single handedly kept Sittingbourne as a senior club, stood down as Chairman making way for Maurice Dunk, a Director of the company that holds the leasehold for Woodstock Park. After a three year reign as manager, Nick Davis resigned in February 2018 after the committee decided a budget cut was necessary when it became clear that Sittingbourne would be unlikely to challenge for the play-offs. Coach, Aslan Odev took over and after initially taking The Brickies to the play-off places failed to maintain this and after a number of losses it was mutually agreed that he would stand aside, paving the way in January 2019, for Dover Athletic Academy development manager, Chris Lynch, to take over.
SITTINGBOURNE FC PLAYER PROFILES Jordan Perrin:
Goalkeeper Signed at the beginning of this season. Jordan started out with Arsenal Youth. He spent six years at Arsenal. He then went on to play for Wigan. Whilst there he played for their Under 18’s and Under 23’s and signed professional forms. He also went on loan to Stockport County and FC United of Manchester.
Tom Benham:
Goalkeeper Joined Sittingbourne at the beginning of the 2019-2020 season Experienced keeper who has also played for Faversham Town and Canterbury City.
Chris Webber:
Defender Club Captain. Joined Sittingbourne from Canterbury City at the beginning of 2017-18 season. Has also played for Billericay and Faversham Town.
Lex Allan:
Defender 6’ 7” Lex was spotted playing in local football and offered a trial with Sittingbourne. It soon became clear that he had great potential. This potential has been spotted by a number of scouts and Lex was invited to play in trial matches and he has not looked out of place in the company of more experienced players.
Jason Fregene:
Defender Joined Sittingbourne at the beginning of the 2019-20 season. Last season he played for Holland & Blair and has also played for Gravesham Borough and Whitstable Town. Whilst at Holland & Blair he won the Players player of the year award.
Tommie Fagg:
Midfield / Forward A graduate from the Soccer Elite Football Academy, and Ashford United. The tall striker then signed for Harlow Town in February 2016 to bolster the attack, making six appearances for the Hawks in the Isthmian Premier Division. He signed for the Brickies at the beginning of the 2018-19 season.
Johan Caney-Bryan:
Forward Joined Sittingbourne at the beginning of the 2018-2019 season. Immediately made an impact when he scored two goals in a preseason friendly. Johan was awarded a scholarship at the University of East London whilst being a third-year sport and exercise student following an impressive display playing for The UEL football Club.
Enock Adjei:
Forward Joined Sittingbourne at the beginning of the 2019-20 season from The Arsenal Development side. He has been captain of SCEFL Welling Town and also played for Millwall and Thamesmead.
Sid Sollis:
Forward Signed from Margate in October 2019 where he had two spells. He has also played for East Grinstead and Canterbury City.
Kane Phillip: Forward This is Kane’s second spell with us. He has also played for Herne Bay James Witt:
Ben Fitchett:
Defender Ben signed from Margate where he was initially a member of their title winning Under 23 team. He has been an ever present since he joined Sittingbourne.
Midfield/Forward Currently on loan to the club from Gillingham’s development team.
Cameron Brodie: Midfield Joined us recently on joint registration from Dartford F.C.
Chris Barnard:
Midfield Signed for us last season from Margate. He was with the Dover Athletic academy before then and has also played for Faversham Town.
Cory Walters-Wright: Midfield Made his debut for Sittingbourne in the first game of the 2019-20 season at Whitstable Town. Cory has previously played for Canterbury City, Chatham Town and Sheppey United. Ikechi Eze:

PREVIOUS MEETINGS WITH SITTINGBOURNE FC Although Sittingbourne were regular visitors here during the original Hastings United era, however, there is no record of any meetings with us prior to their visit here on Boxing Day 1991 upon their return to the Southern League’s Southern Division after a 24 year interval. We then renewed acquaintances with a pre-season match prior to season 2005/06 which United won 3-1 at Sittingbourne. Our first Ryman League meetings took place in Division One (South) during season 2006/07 when United won both matches, 2-1 at Sittingbourne and 5-2 at the Pilot Field. We then met again in another pre-season game prior to the 2009/10 campaign which United won 1-0 at the Pilot Field. Our next encounter was in the League Cup in 2012/13 in which United won 2-0 at Sittingbourne. We resumed our league meetings in season 2013/14 and have since played each other in the following seasons in the Isthmian League’s Division One South. Sam Beale’s appearance earlier in the month at Whitehawk marked his 100th for the Club.
Congratulations to U’s coach, Andrew Brown, who has recently completed and passed his UEFA A Licence coach qualification. At only 24-years-old this is a fantastic achievement and something Andrew has been working hard towards over the last 18 months.

Andrew currently combines his excellent work at Hastings United by leading a full-time football and education program at The Marsh Academy in New Romney as well as delivering sessions at community programs in partnership with Active Rother and Rother District Council.

The Club Believes Customer Care starts on the inside, with a good team of staff and work ethic. Most of our staff are volunteers but The Club expect our staff to always do their best.
Please note that the officers and stewards of Hastings United Football Club will enforce Ground Regulations. A copy of these Regulations is posted at the entrance to each turnstile and within the ground on the wall next to the food bar.
Our staff should remain courteous even in difficult situations. The Club and its staff know they are offering a service and that they would like every customer to return.
Please note that the following are offences under the Football (Offences) Act 1991, as amended: the throwing of any object within the ground without lawful authority or excuse, the chanting of anything of an indecent or racist nature: the entry onto the playing area or any adjacent area to which spectators are not generally admitted without lawful authority or excuse.
We believe that people come first when offering a service.
Under the Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol etc.) Act 1985, the following are offences for which a person can be arrested by a police officer: attempting to enter the ground or being inside the ground whilst drunk: being in possession of any intoxicating liquor, or bottle, can or other portable container which could cause damage or personal injury when entering the ground.

THREE BRIDGES BRING IN WIDELY-TRAVELLED DEFENDER
PURCELL HEADS TO ASHFORD
Three Bridges gave a debut last Saturday to defender Hamilton Bunga, who joined the club from Basildon United.
South East League Leaders Ashford United have announced the signing of Great Wakering Rovers striker George Purcell. Purcell is the Urchins record scorer, with 149 goals in 279 appearances, but left the club last summer to join Canvey Island. He made a dozen appearances for the Gulls, scoring six goals, but left the club in the autumn to sign for Grays Athletic, since when he has knocked in six more including two against Canvey two weeks before Christmas. His last appearance for Athletic was in victory against Great Wakering Rovers in mid January, and he then moved to play for Rovers, scored on his debut, but only played twice more.
RAMSGATE BRING IN TWO Ramsgate earned an impressive point at home to high-flying Whitehawk on Saturday, helped by debuts from new arrivals Jamie Maxted and Giorgio Russo. Maxted moved over from Faversham Town. He'd made twenty four appearances for the Lilywhites this season, and scored against his new club in the Velocity Trophy. He'd been at Faversham for a number of seasons, and also spent some time with Dover Athletic, Ramsgate, Herne Bay and Canterbury City, Russo came across from league leaders Ashford United. He'd played only twice for the Nuts and Bolts, and previously played for Canterbury City, Herne Bay, Met Police and Faversham Town.

Hamilton previously played for Thurrock, Barkingside, Staines Town, Kingstonian, Ware, Arlesey Town, Peacehaven & Telscombe, Northwood,and Bedfont Sports. This season has already turned out for Hythe Town, Canvey Island, Leiston and Basildon United, although he played only fifteen minutes for Canvey, coming on as a substitute in an FA Cup tie against Bowers & Pitsea before being himself substituted soon afterwards. He played only once for the Bees, too, in a goalless draw against Coggeshall Town.
LEWES ANNOUNCE MANAGERIAL APPOINTMENT On February 11 Lewes announced the appointment of Hugo Langton as their new manager. Hugo effectively replaces Darren Freeman, who left the club for a new career opportunity in mid-October. Ross Standen and Tony Coade, who have acted as caretaker managers since Darren's departure, will now return to their coaching duties. Hugo was most recently head coach at National League South Welling United. He left Park View Road in January. He was previously at Eastbourne Borough, Bromley, Thamesmead Town and Hastings United, has a large collection of UEFA coaching qualifications, is a highly regarded coach, and has worked as a scout for a number of professional clubs. His first match in charge of the club was at home to Hornchurch, where he looked to rectify a disastrous home record which has seen the Rooks win only one home match this season, the result was a goalless draw.
