NURBE pretends to temporarily occupy one of the equipment warehouses of PTC Eléctrica, an electrical contractor of Aguascalientes, México. The intervention on the industrial building must redefine its inside on an ephimerous way, basing the construction of the space on sensorial experiences to transform how we perceive it. The transitory condition of the project forbid us to substantially modify the building’s composition because it was necessary to immediately dismount when the warehouse needed to be used again. The concept of this invasive lightness evokes us to adapt into space as steam does on its container. From this idea, we conceived a hanged textile surface that perceptually mutates while its materiality remains static. The surface’s organic form, that imitates a cloud, was digitally modeled with NURBS, so that’s where it adopts the name of NURBE, a nube (cloud in spanish) generated by NURBS.

The luminance intervention has a fundamental role in the proposal. The hanged surface was physically developed in translucent fabric to allow the custom made light matrix backlit the cloth emulating how steam clouds diffuse light rays. This light matrix is RGB to flood the warehouse with color, so users could feel different moods and emotions through its stay on the NURBE. The steel wire joints that hang the fabric hold laser modules that light the optical fiber mesh that rationalizes the surface along the NURBS’ control points to accent its mathematical structure. The DMX control system enables to light the installation in diverse scenarios letting the users experience live a dynamic change on the space perspective that perceives. Actually, NURBE is proposed to be an open access art intervention to the public, so they could have a closer experience with light and feel how its behavior modifies the way we conceive space. The project status is in standby to be built in a near future.
