THE WORLD OF ARTEFACTS IN LIVERPOOL Nature: Academic Role: 100% Individual Course: ARCH302-Studio 3.1 Design Tutor: Jane Cadot (Jane.Cadot@liverpool.ac.uk) Date: Oct. 2023- Dec.2023 Location: Moorfields Road, Liverpool

How to give artists an environment that is conducive to their creativity, how to bring more attention to their work and how to get more support and for artists? This project in Liverpool aims to create a world for artists. In this project, independent artists' studios, co-working small art companies and potential clients are connected through the architectural space. By setting up different types of studios and allocating them according to the different needs of artists for space and facilities, the project aims to provide artists with a comfortable creative environment that is easy to work and communicate with. At the same time, through the design of a series of public spaces, the artists' works will be publicized, exhibited and sold, and the public will be attracted to visit along certain routes, so that they can better understand the artists' work as well as gain a pleasurable aesthetic experience.

Jakarta has one of the worst coastal flooding problems in the world, and this project aims to explore a form of floating city that will help the lo cal co mmunity co pe with this pro ble m ove r the nex t 50 ye ars. The project is located at the junction of land and sea, where there is a mangrove wetland system. Mangrove forests play an important role in regulating the climate and are also a habitat for many species. We want to introduce the mangrove into the city to make it a case of transition between land and sea, between nature and the city. Through a series of landscape and architectural strategies, the module will continue to function even after coastal flooding has swallowed up parts of the land. The project employs AI tools to help explore the fabric of the city, generate decentralized urban forms, and inspired by that, we can design site-specific, organic urban forms that are in line with sustainable development strategies.

03 CHOICES IN THE DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS AN EXPERIENTIAL ARCHIVE IN BIRKENHEAD Nature: Academic Role: 100% Individual Course: ARCH252-Studio 2.3 Design Tutor: Matthew Ashton (Matthew.Ashton@liverpool.ac.uk) Date: Feb. 2023- May.2023 Location: Hamilton Square, Birkenhead

What would you do if the End Times came and the world was overrun by the horrible creature, the Triffids, and you lost your sight? On the other hand, if you were lucky enough to retain your sight, what could you do —— fight, flee, or help the blind? What choices would you make? The project is an archive for the British science fiction novel The Day of the Triffids. In addition to the basic collection and exhibition functions, immersive experience zones are set up to deepen visitors' impression and understanding of the novel. Visitors can choose different identities, blind or not, and enter into different experience zones to experience the plot of the book. In this way, people can more truly understand the core idea of the novel —— how human nature will be manifested in the post-apocalyptic world, and how people will make choices and survive.

AN INSECT INSTITUTE IN BRAZIL Nature: Academic Role: 100% Individual Course: ARCH202-Studio 2.1 Design Tutor: Andrew Crompton (Andrew.Crompton@liverpool.ac.uk) Date: Oct. 2022- Dec.2022 Location: Orocó, Brazil

Those seemingly ordinary bugs, if well observed, the same will find many interesting things. Ignorance often makes us not see their value, in fact, even the most inconspicuous creatures are indispensable to the composition of the music of nature's life.——Fabre, The Book of Insects The project site is located in Brazil, at where the plain and the mountain meet. It consists of an insect institute that serves as the main building, where the researchers' main work and daily life take place, as well as the role of popularizing entomology for the public. A series of smaller insect research stations are connected to the main building by a network of pathways, distributed at different altitudes, and equipped with insect hotels in order to obtain a richer variety of insect samples and to provide people with activities to observe insects, stimulating the desire to explore nature and ecological conservation. The project is adapted to the local conditions and built with local materials, while the architectural elements are extracted and applied from local traditional buidlings, adapting to the local climate and expressing respect for the local culture.
