WITH HONORARY
A Message From The HONORARY CHAIRS
We are both so excited and honored to have been chosen as honorary co-chairs of this year’s Tuxes & Tails. Our involvement in this event has evolved over the years. We started as simple attendees then moved on to table sponsors and after party sponsors. Now we have been privileged to work with a fabulous committee that is beyond dedicated to this cause.
Not only do we support the event but we have two shelter dogs of our own that we consider members of our family. Our adoption journey began in 2017. Mike fell in love with the story of a black Korean Jindo that had been rescued from a meat farm. This poor dog had been so abused that she didn’t even know what it was like to lay down to sleep. On the farm she was forced into a crate with several dogs. They were packed in so tightly that they had to lean against each other to sleep. They didn’t even have enough room to turn around. This dog didn’t know what it was to walk on a leash, play with a ball or even eat from her own bowl without having to fight off other dogs. She was under weight, her hair was matted and she was generally unhealthy.
HSTB rescued 20 dogs from this farm. One of them was pregnant with six puppies. It was our shelter that nursed these dogs back to health, including the new born Korean puppies, and made sure they all were placed in loving homes. It took an army of volunteers, staff and donors to make sure these dogs made it. I’m happy to say these dogs are loved and spoiled as they should be. Our Jindo, Laila, has her own place on the couch where she can lay down to nap as much as she wants. Had it not been for HSTB she would have been slaughtered and eaten.
Our next opportunity to adopt came in 2021. We had lost our first dog and we just felt we were missing someone in the family. Sully was a 9-month-old, 85-pound, anxiety-ridden Doberman. He had been carelessly surrendered with a botched ear crop that has left
permanent scarring. His previous owner used force to intimidate and train him. He was also afraid to be crated. We are confident that had he been brought to a different shelter he would have been put down due to his size and temperament. HSTB knew we would be able to work with him and now he is a 100-pound lap dog. He snuggles with our seven year old and has filled the void left by our first dog.
We support HSTB because we believe that with this organization the animals come first. They don’t give up on these poor souls and work hard to get them help. They are the only no kill shelter in the area and they do not turn any animal away, even the exotics. It takes a hard working team to make this happen every day. More importantly, it takes the generosity of the community to keep this amazing place running. We ask that your generosity be abundant this evening. There are so many new and exciting initiatives that HSTB is working on and we need your help to succeed. Every donation counts, so please, think of these animals and know that you were able to make an impact in their futures.

The HSTB Animal Hospital opened in 2012 to address the critical need for affordable veterinary care in Tampa Bay. Fourteen years later, as the community continues to expand, the demand for these services grows daily.
To accommodate the increased need, the Humane Society of Tampa Bay will add 10,000 square feet to the current structure.
Why

COMMUNITY SAFETY
HSTB’s full-service, high-quality hospital offers a range of affordable services that are imperative to keep pets healthy, protect the community from the spread of infectious disease, and help control the overpopulation of unwanted puppies and kittens.
