American Indian tribes have called the North Coast home for thousands of years. Although relationships between European settlers and Native Americans were often tragic, today the stories and ceremonies of local American Indians are valued throughout the community at large, providing a rich cultural experience. Objects of ancient as well as contemporary art and culture can be found on display in abundance in many parts of Humboldt County.
