Letter from the Editor

Well, here we are! Only about two weeks from the start of PBR Finals Week in Las Vegas. I believe this will be one of the most exciting finals that we have seen with five contenders all within about 500 points of each other in the world standings. It should be a real nail biter to see how it all unfolds. We also have a chance this month to talk about something that is near and dear to my heart. Adoption. November is National Adoption Month and my wife and I have been blessed to raise two daughters who were born into our family by adoption. It has been quite a journey with its own unique set of circumstances and challenges but it has also been chock full of blessings and rewards that we would not trade for anything in the world. Terry Lidral, a writer that we welcome for the first time to the pages of Humps N Horns this month, has written a terrific article which introduces us to a side of JW and LeAnn Hart that we are not always able to see on TV. They have a wonderful family that has also been blessed and enlarged through adoption. There are so many children in our country today who need loving, stable homes that I would encourage you to check out some of the resources provided at the end of the article and see if foster care or adoption is something that you would be willing to consider. Last, but certainly not least, I would like to thank all of the veterans who may be reading this magazine as we prepare to celebrate Veterans Day on November 11. I am proud to be a veteran, too, and want to thank you for your service and the sacrifices that you and your family has made on behalf of this great nation. I realize that we have problems and things may not always be the way we would like, but I am proud to be an American and count it a privilege to have served in the United States Army.

Bull Riding Coaches Anyone who wishes to up the ante’ on his riding needs some outside influence to help. The most important thing is for you to pick the right outside help. There are a lot of voices out there that want to be heard. Some have proven themselves in the arena others, not so much.

His philosophy and program must have proven results to show you how and why it works. It’s your choice so choose wisely who you will let be the voices in your riding career as well as your life overall.

Just because someone rode or rides good doesn’t mean they are able to impart to others what it takes to have success. With talk of coaching in the bull riding world Cody Custer there are hundreds of unqualified “want a be coaches” out there. In order for the coach to have a profound effect on your riding you must buy into his philosophy and his program.

Neck pain is a very common complaint. It is so common that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention studied the prevalence in both males and females of several different age groups. They concluded that in the past three months alone, almost 20 percent of ALL of us have experienced neck pain! That’s a big number! There can be many different causes for neck pain, including but not limited to compromised sleep, poor posture, excessive stress, and sudden movements. Regardless of the cause, neck pain can be very uncomfortable and even disabling. When neck pain strikes, keep these tips in mind: 1 Rest, Rest, Rest!
As neck pain can have a sudden onset, it also can resolve itself pretty quickly! With proper rest, some neck pain will go away without having to do anything else other than allowing our bodies to do its job of recovery. Some neck injuries require no movement at all and

can be assisted by wearing a brace. However, it is recommended for less severe injuries to incorporate gentle movement during recovery to aid in the healing process. 2. Stay Hydrated
We all hear how important it is to drink water. After all, our bodies are mostly water. But did you know that when we are born, our spinal discs are more than 80% water? As we age, this number decreases, but in order to prevent further degeneration and in turn, neck pain, we must stay hydrated daily. Try to make a habit of drinking water in a way that comes easy for you. Maybe frame it around each of your meals or make a daily intake goal and track it on your phone throughout the day.

3. Consider Therapy
There are several different means of therapy that can help alleviate neck pain. Physical therapy plays a huge role in providing treatments that aim to reduce pain while strengthening the weakened muscles surrounding the area.

Humps-Horns.com · 10 · November 2017

Other suggestions for neck pain relief are:
-Make a plan to take breaks from looking down at your phone or computer screen regularly
-Apply heat or ice to painful areas
-Invest in a neck-supporting chair or pillow -Consider a topical pain relief lotion
like Real Time Pain Relief -Try essential oils to reduce tension
-Practice stress-reducing activities daily, such as breathing exercises And if you already have neck pain, here are some things to try to avoid completely: -Smoking
 -Sleeping on your stomach
-Fast, quick movements of the head -Holding your phone with your shoulder Acupuncture is a form of alternative medicine that offers relief to many whom suffer from neck discomfort. However, it is an individual experience highly dependent on the patient and the practitioner providing the therapy. The same can be said about massages, with special attention to the deep tissue variety. Try these things out and see what works best for you!
 4. Stretch It Out!
Neck pain can stem either from tight muscles, weakened muscles, or both! Either way, it is important to stretch out your neck and the surrounding muscles in the area, such as the shoulders and jaw. So as long as you are not in too much pain while moving, practice some light stretching several times throughout your day. Some examples are: • rolling your shoulders forward and backward, • drawing circles with your neck, • reaching your chin to your chest, • and trying to bring your ears toward each shoulder.

Some parts of the Bible are more difficult than others. Peter said, “...Even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; as also in all his epistles speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction” (II Peter 3:15-16). Even though it takes more study to understand some of the scriptures, you will notice in this passage that God neither condoned or excused the error that was taught because of Bible misunderstanding. He rather pointed out that the misusers of the Bible brought their own destruction. People will be lost in hell because they misuse the scriptures to teach error.

by Keno Shrum

The Bible is Understandable Many people feel like the bible is impossible to understand. They rely on a theologian or scholar to tell them interpret it for them. The problem is that many theologians and scholars get it wrong. Why? Because they read too much into it or add their own agenda. The bible in fact is very understandable by all of us. While reading the Great Plainness of Speech, I ran across the following article by Dwight McGee.

In a time of flooding religious error and misunderstanding of the Bible let us not blame God and His word, but with great determination find the truth revealed within the pages of the Holy Bible and unite on that truth to salvation. May God richly bless our efforts to know and do His will. If you’d like to discuss the bible or have any questions I could be of assistance with, then please, “...Come now, and let us reason together” the ways of our Lord. In His Love, Keno

The multitude of different church buildings downtown in every city stands as a sad reminder of religious division and confusion. In man’s loss of unity, he is tempted to blame God and His word, the Bible. Men conclude that, since we do not understand the Bible, then the Bible cannot be understood. This is a most serious and fundamental error. Furthermore, it is a personal attack on either God’s goodness or His ability to communicate to men. The Bible declares plainly that it can be understood. The Bible gives a man all the truth that he needs to please God: “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works” (II Timothy 3:16-17). Even though we do not have the complete record of what Jesus did on earth, we have what we need to understand, believe and be saved. “And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: but these are written that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name” (John 20:30-31). It is the truth that will make us free as Jesus said,”If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:31,32). Jesus has provided that truth for us today in the pages of the Holy Bible. It is clear from the Bible itself that God intended for us to understand and obey it. Paul said, “Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is” (Ephesians 5:17). He also made it clear that God’s revelation of the Bible through Him could be understood upon reading. “... How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words, whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)” (Ephesians 3:4).

World Champion Bucking Bull Contenders Things are heating up in the competition for the PBR Built Ford Tough Series World Champion Bucking Bull. We are moving full steam ahead to the 2017 PBR Built Ford Tough Series World Finals in Las Vegas, November 1-5. It promises to be an exciting, knucklebiter ending to a great season for these bovine athletes, their owners, and the fans!

Champion Bucking Bull, 32Y SweetPro’s Bruiser, briefly tied Pearl Harbor for first place after dumping Marco Eguchi in 5.99 seconds at the 15/15 Bucking Battle in Austin a few weeks ago. His 45.75 point score earned him the YETI “Built for the Wild” Bull of the event. This moved him into a statistical tie with Pearl Harbor with a world point average of 46.28 points.

Harbor sent No.6 Chase Outlaw flying after only 2.73 seconds. His 46.25 bull score helped him squeak back into first place with a world point average of 46.38 points, and earned him the YETI “Built for the Wild” Bull of the event. “It will definitely come down to the Finals,” shared Probullstat.com’s Slade Long. “Pearl Harbor and Bruiser have been competing against each other their entire lives. The race for the World Champion Bucking Bull has pretty much narrowed down to these two bulls. Statistically, they are way ahead of third place contender TLW Bucking Bulls’ TLW Big Cat.” “If both Pearl Harbor and Bruiser have two normal outs at the Finals,” Slade continued, “It will be a very tight race. Bruiser has the best chance because he never fails. Only a miscue resulting in a reride no score will prevent one of these bulls from winning the crown. Pearl Harbor is touchier in the chute, which could be a problem. But Pearl Harbor is more rank than Bruiser. If both bulls have their best outs ever at the Finals, Pearl Harbor wins the championship.” “It’s going to go right down to the wire,” six time PBR Stock Contractor of the Year, Chad Berger predicted. “I hate to get ahead of myself, but I truly think Pearl Harbor is the rankest bull in the world. He is a phenomenal athlete and my best shot in a long time to win this.”

Pearl Harbor missed a few events recently, due to an infection in his left horn. But he has come back strong and is poised to battle Bruiser all the way to the Finals. “I’d like to rest him until the Finals,” Chad said. “But we’ll have to see what Bruiser does this week in Raleigh. If he moves ahead of Pearl Harbor, I’ll probably haul him to San Jose to even the score going into the Finals.” According to Probullstats.com, Pearl Harbor has 32 PBR BFTS outs with three rides, for an 89.36% buckoff percentage. His average ride mark is 22.332 with 17 round winning outs and four rider round wins. His BFTS average rider score is 91.66 points. The bull that goes into the World Finals with the No. 1 ranking will win $25,000. The World Champion Bucking Bull will take home $100,000. “Bruiser is on his way to Raleigh,” six time PBR Stock Contractor of the Year H.D. Page of D&H Cattle Company revealed. “I decided to buck Bruiser in Raleigh about a month ago. I didn’t know about the bonus. Bruiser just seems to do better when he’s on the road bucking. He is sharper and more consistently rank if he bucks more often. I think Bruiser has a really good chance to repeat the title this year.” “Bruiser is just a big, tough bull,” H.D. added. “He handles pain

differently than most bulls. He had an infection in his right horn that we didn’t catch right away. He bucked in Oklahoma City at a PRCA Xtreme Bull event with that pain and got a bull score of 48.5 points! That bull doesn’t owe me anything. Bruiser just gives it all he’s got every time.” “Every time I see him (Bruiser), I get more and more impressed with him,” PBR Bull Fighter and CBS Commentator Shorty Gorham said a few weeks ago in Austin. According to Probullstats.com, Bruiser has 43 PBR BFTS outs and has been ridden nine times for an 81.25% buck-off percentage. His average ride mark is 22.609 for 41 round winning outs and 14 rider round wins. His BFTS rider score average is 92.30 points.

World Champion Bull Rider Contenders With just two events remaining before the PBR’s BFTS Finals at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, the race for the coveted World Championship is extremely tight! Four hundred and ninety five points separate the top five bull riders, and we look to be in for one heck of a good Finals. With those two events yet to come, let’s take a look at the last few PBRs that brought these men to this point in the season. The great-riding Brazilian Eduardo Aparecido is atop the leader board. Aparecido had not been number one since back in August. He had a strong hold on that spot for six months until Kaique Pacheco jumped up to pass him. Eduardo was able to overtake Kaique however, and regained the lead after finishing third in Uniondale, New York in September. He extended that lead the following weekend in Colorado Springs, Colorado, when he again finished in third place. But Aparecido hit a wall in Nampa, Idaho. He did not cover any of

his bulls, but was still able to maintain a very small lead in the BFTS standings. With as tight a race as we are seeing this year, it was a bad time to have a mini slump, but look for him to make that up in the last two events. The man who did make a huge move up the ladder was last years’ World Champion, Cooper Davis, and he would love to get the same result again. Cooper started September off great, winning two 15/15 Bucking Battles, one in Springfield, Missouri and the other in Texas, as well as also winning the event in Springfield and placing third in Austin. Davis did not place in New York however, and a 13th place finish in Colorado earned him only 27.50 points toward the World Title. At that time he was sitting in fifth place, but all that changed in Nampa. Cooper was fourth in the second round and won the Championship

Eduardo Aparecido rides Catfish John(Dakota Rodeo/ Chad Berger/ Clay Struve) for 89 points to win the 2017 PBR Iron Cowboy.

Humps-Horns.com · 20 · November 2017

Cooper Davis tops Hammer Down (Triplett Bucking Bulls) for 88.50 points at the 2016 PBR World Finals. Round with a score of 91 after covering Set ‘em up Joe, owned by Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/ Clay Struve/H&C Bucking Bulls. He ended up second overall at that event and vaulted from fifth to second place in the standings, a mere 197 points behind Eduardo. Dropping into third, but still only 365 points out of the lead, was Pacheco. He had a dry spell in both New York and Colorado, and also failed to fire in Nampa. Obviously, this 23-year-old is capable of big wins. He was the 2015 PBR Rookie of the Year, and almost followed that up with the biggest victory of all at those World Finals – a World title. But he finished up as the runner-up to J.B. Mauney. In 2016 he went into the fifth and final day in the lead for the world title, only to buck off of the very tough Slinger Jr. in the Championship Round and once again end up runner-up, this time to Davis. One can only imagine that this driven young man does not want to be a bridesmaid three years in a row, however he will have to battle not just his countryman Aparecido, but several other top bull riders to get the job done. To say he is capable is an understatement. He is great under pressure, proven by his consistent performances in the Finals, as well as his back-to-back wins in the Last Cowboy Standing in 2016 and this year. We found two very young guns sitting in those fourth and fifth slots, and both of them are more than within striking distance of that lead.

Derek Kolbaba, at 21 years of age, had been in a big slump – riding only 1 of 17 bulls – up until the time he marched into New York for the Buck off the Island. He won that event and started his climb back into contention. Following that success in New York, Kolbaba made the huge jump into third place after shining in Colorado. Derek tied with Fabiano Vieira for the win in the first round, split fifth with Davis in Round 2, and ran away with the Championship Round. He covered the D&H Cattle Co. / Buck Cattle Co. bull SweetPro’s Bruiser for a huge 93 point score, taking home the event win there as well. Kolbaba did not hit the board in Nampa, which, along with the great showing by Davis, aided in his drop from third to fourth, but he still is only 453 points behind Aparecido. Rounding out the top five we have the baby of the bunch, although don’t let his youth fool you. At only 20 years old, Jess Lockwood is quite good at his job of riding bulls. Jess is another Rookie of the Year winner, capturing that title in 2016. In mid-September he won the Long Live Cowboys Classic in Austin, Texas. He won the first round and the Championship Round, scoring a solid 90 points in the short-go on More Big Bucks, owned by Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve. That win catapulted him into second in the world standings. Kaique Pacheco takes on Yoga (Currey Creek Bucking Bulls) at the 2017 PBR Iron Cowboy.

Humps-Horns.com · 21 · November 2017

Derek Kolbaba rides D&H Cattle Co./ Buck Cattle Co.’s bull SweetPro’s Bruiser for 93 points to win the event in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

But things changed the following weekend in Uniondale when Lockwood was stepped on after bucking off Blue Magic in the first round. He suffered a punctured lung, a lacerated kidney, and four broken ribs. That obviously put him on the shelf for a time, although it does appear that he will be able to compete in the World Finals. Lockwood is still in a really good position, 495 points away from Eduardo. With two more regular season events to go, and five days of World Finals, it is very easy for things to change. Three other men are less than 2,000 points behind Aparecido. Chase Outlaw is 1121 points behind, Stormy Wing finds himself 1828 out, and Fabiano Vieira trails the leader by 1959 points. And let’s not forget the other Finals that will take place the weekend prior to the BFTS Finals. We also have the Real Time Pain Relief Velocity Tour Finals held at South Point. Taking place Saturday through Monday nights, this is also a hotly contested race that finds Skeeter Kingsolver in the lead by a slight margin over Alex Marcilio. Those two are followed by Cody Campbell, Derek Kolbaba, Ramon de Lima, Michael Lane, Fabiano Vieira, and Cody Teel. As with the BFTS Finals, there are two events left before these men march into Las Vegas. When the PBR heads into Sin City there is one good bet you can make. Whichever event you are able to attend, you will see the best of the best, both in human and bovine athletes. There are none better, so make plans to take a road trip. You won’t be disappointed!

Jess Lockwood faces Air Time (Jared Allen Pro Bull Team/ Phenom Genetics) for the first time where Air Time received a 47.50 bull score at the 2016 Last Cowboy Standing in Las Vegas, Nevada.

For JW and LeAnn Hart, raising bucking bulls is a family business. A real family business where everyone is involved in the everyday operations of a cattle ranch with around 80 head of bucking stock. And for JW and LeAnn that family is a true blessing. The Harts have 3 children, all adopted. After the pain of losing their own babies, they decided that adoption was their option to have a family. “We had just gone through the loss of a baby and our prayers became different,” LeAnn explained. “Before JW and I got married, we had discussed adoption so it was a comfortable decision for us to make. We knew in our hearts that we were meant to adopt so we began the process.” The Harts worked through an adoption agency and on March 18, 2009, 2 day old Wacey became a part of the Hart family. On March 14, 2010, 18 month old Makayla came to join Wacey as JW and LeAnn’s children.

“We heard about Makayla, who was in DHS foster care, through a friend. We decided we would do whatever it took to adopt her,” LeAnn told us. “She was asleep in her car seat when the DHS worker brought her and I get choked up when I think about seeing her for the first time.” Wacey loved his sister at first sight. They bonded immediately. “Wacey wasn’t walking at the beginning of the day. After playing with his sister, Wacey was walking by evening. They are only 6 months apart and they are like twins,” said LeAnn with deep emotion in her voice. And then on September 10, 2015, JW and LeAnn brought 2 day old Elsie into their home. LeAnn explained, “Elsie was a foster child with us because family placement is sought out for newborn babies. Elsie did not have any family and so we were able to adopt her as our own.”

JW and LeAnn take their obligations as parents very seriously. Having their children grow up on a working ranch has given them the opportunity to teach roles and responsibility at a young age. “We do ranching as a family,” LeAnn said. “We buck, feed and gather bulls together. The kids are all given a role and they have their responsibilities. A multitude of lessons are taught along the way.” LeAnn went on to say, “Our kids know how to work for things. They realize they can stand on their own two feet. When they say, ‘I can’t do it,’ we ask them ‘who told you that you can’t?’” It’s always busy for the Hart family with JW’s travels and LeAnn’s obligations to the family, in the community and taking care of the demands of life on a ranch. “JW is gone much of the time and there’s always something that needs to be done,” said LeAnn. “I’m out feeding and fixing the fence. Being Mom, my kids come out with me. And they all work. They all have their pliers and gloves.” And the Hart children are happy about growing up in the bull business. They each get to pick a calf every year. They watch the calves buck and then select one that they will stick with as it grows up. One of the favorite times of year on the ranch is when the calves are born. “It’s a special time when the babies are born. Every morning, Wacey and Makayla run out to see if there are any new calves. They love to find the new babies,” LeAnn told us.

One of the fun jobs for Wacey and Makayla is tagging the new calves. It’s a job they look forward to. Wacey loves to buck the bulls and, now that he is 8 years old, he is being given more responsibilities in their raising and training. “The young babies are sensitive to all the things around them,” LeAnn explained. “Wacey is old enough to work with them in the chute.” When the young bulls are run through the chute, a rope is rubbed on them as a first step to tolerate the flank when they begin competition. “JW has taught Wacey how to do the hands on with the calves. He’s taught him to be slow and gentle.” Now that Wacey is working with the young bulls in the chute, he’s decided he would like to pull the latches on the gate. But his mom isn’t so sure about that. “We will take this one step at a time,” said LeAnn. For Makayla, bucking a bull is about to become a reality. She will soon be entering the junior competition of the ABBI futurities and taking on the responsibility of competing with her own bull.

Elsie helps LeAnn with some fence repair (above) and feeding time (top right).

“Makayla will be able to enter junior competition soon. She is really excited because in the ABBI junior competition she can flank her own bull.”

As far as Elsie is concerned, living on a ranch is great. And she loves bulls. At the age of 2, she follows her father around the ranch with no fear. LeAnn put it this way. “Elsie is following closely behind the clanging of her daddy’s spurs.” Although JW is gone much of the time and the life of the Hart family is extremely busy, when they are together, it’s all about quality time. “We like to do everything together whenever we can. There’s so much to do on the ranch that we don’t have TVs in the bedrooms. We spend time with each other,” LeAnn stated. “We work hard and by the end of the day we’re worn out. We sleep well.” A special time for the family is dinner at the table. “We all sit down together for dinner. It’s a time for conversation. It’s family time.” The Hart family has a Fourth of July tradition of attending the Rocksprings, Texas PBR event. It’s something LeAnn looks forward to all year. “We are there together and there are no cell phones so we don’t have to deal with work.” The annual trip to the PBR Finals is also one of those special times. “We are busy there. This year we will have 6 bulls in the Finals. But it’s just our family and we enjoy being there together.”

Makayla shows that she can ride just as good as the boys. It may be a hectic lifestyle being in the bucking bull business and being the parents of 3 children, but JW and LeAnn would have it no other way. ”We love what we do,” stated LeAnn. “It gets busy sometimes and it’s not always fun. Things break down and have to be fixed. The herd has to be fed. But these are all opportunities to teach our children.” She goes on to say, “We are so blessed. We never take our children for granted. We are humbled every day. Our children renew the joy every morning for us. It’s seeing His promise to us blossom through laughter, tears, hugs and even discipline. We didn’t just want the title and respect of being parents, we accepted the responsibility.” All photos provided courtesy of JW and LeAnn Hart. Diamond G Rodeo Co. Livestock Highlight San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Rodeo By Barbara Pinnella

Photos by Andrea Kaus

In September, Humps N Horns Bull Riding Magazine attended the San Bernardino County Sheriff ’s Rodeo, a three-day event. Of course bull riding will take center stage here, but it was fun to get to watch each of the other rodeo events, as well. Providing all of the livestock for this rodeo, as well as many other rodeos in the Western United States, was Steve and Cyndi Gilbert’s Diamond G Rodeo Co.

The Gilberts are known for their outstanding calves, steers, bareback and saddle broncs, and bucking bulls, and that was certainly the case here. Their bulls ruled the event, with only four men making the whistle out of the 28 who attempted to ride. The first round on Friday night was won by Aaron Williams. He covered Elk Bug for a score of 76 points. He was the only one to make a qualified ride. Nothing changed on Saturday, as only one bull rider was able to cover his bull that evening as well. This time it was Tyler Bingham aboard Whirlyboss. The score was not a high one – 68 points. But it was good enough to take home the day money. Two men were able to post scores on the final day, and their numbers were good ones. The first one to do so was Garrett Smith. He partnered up with the flashy bull Orange Juice and put an 80 on the board. He had to feel fairly confident if this night went the way of the previous two, but that was not to be. Chase Dougherty put in a great ride on Da Magic to get that eightsecond ride. For his efforts, he posted a big 85.50 score to take the win. Those rides by both Dougherty and Smith also put them first and second for the overall event. Williams was third and Bingham fourth. But just where do all those super bulls come from? Well, one needs to go back to 1989 with the acquisition of Ricky #183. The first superstar for Diamond G, Ricky’s blood can be found in many great bulls that have followed him. One of the most well-known to many bull riding fans would have to be White Magic. Magic is a double-bred bull, with a Ricky grandfather as his sire, and the dam being by a great-grandfather of Ricky. It is hard to believe that Magic will be 16 years of age in March – quite a testament to the good life provided for the livestock at Diamond G!

Aaron Williams rides Elk Bug for 76 points.

And an interesting side note regarding Ricky. When the Gilberts bought that bull they were told that he was sterile.

“When he died after his 20th birthday there were more than 100 offspring. Two were born via live cover after his death. People have asked why we didn’t just AI (artificially inseminate) them? I told them that the Sire deserves to have a good time! I have my geriatric pen; those that can’t buck anymore I often use to breed with. People don’t realize that bulls can live into their teens. White Magic couldn’t ask for a better place to live.”

“I have been very lucky to have Ricky, Mr. USA, and White Magic. But I would have to say that currently one of my favorites is a bull by the name of #13 White Omega, a son of White Magic.”

Cyndi is one of the best when it comes to knowing the bloodlines of her bulls and cows, and she is constantly honing those skills. She believes that genetics are very important, but there is another way that these terrific bulls just keep on coming – cloning.

Now, a little bit about the San Bernardino County Sheriff ’s Rodeo. The rodeo dates back to 1957. Much to the disappointment of many, many rodeo fans, this event disappeared in 1974. But the rodeo returned with a vengeance, and this year marked the 18th annual rodeo event. That is a very good thing, as this rodeo is a great way to bring law enforcement and the public together.

“I have clones from White Magic, Whirlygig, Crusher Time, and War Dance, to name a few of the cloned bloodlines. We also have a cow that comes from the mother of Houdini. Two White Magic clones bucked in San Bernardino, Mirror Image #59W and Magic Me #19W. Both bucked their cowboys off – just like White Magic was famous for doing.” If you noticed a similarity in the numbers you would be right. That “W” after the number means that the bulls are White Magic clones. Another interesting trivia fact is that with Diamond G you can often tell who the sire is by the letter preceding the number. For example, ‘k’ is a Whirlygig; ‘c’ is a Charmed I’m Sure, and “o” is for Crusher Time. White Magic offspring are branded with just numbers.

But just because she named a favorite, make no mistake that Cyndi loves all of the livestock she and Steve own. The bulls are her “fur babies”. This is her passion and she thoroughly enjoys the lifestyle.

Each year the rodeo strives to make the current event better than the last, and they continue to succeed in that quest. Attendees not only get to experience the cowboy lifestyle, but there are many other family activities to enjoy. Among them are a mechanical bull, rock climbing, a petting zoo, and pony rides. And there is one more thing that I cannot forget to mention – the food! The choices are many and the food is good. Be sure to make plans to attend this rodeo next year, and also look for a rodeo in your area that features Diamond G livestock!

As far as favorites go, Cyndi has many good ones to choose from.
