our important work continues

helping knox is easy

More than 100 years ago one benefactor built a home for people she would never meet.

Now, Knox is a care home and hospital for elders and those younger who live with physical disability. Importantly, we’re an Eden Alternative™ home.

Elizabeth Knox Home & Hospital is named after the very person whose generosity founded Knox Home.

The Eden Alternative means that we have a different DNA to other homes. The little differences you’ll find at Knox are the things that make a big difference to the lives of Knox residents. Our focus is on enriching lives and combating loneliness, helplessness and boredom.

These are gifts you can make at a later time which will make a difference beyond your lifetime. Provisions can be made in your Will to gift cash, shares, personal property or real estate. Please let us know you are making a bequest by completing our Bequest/Legacy/Donation Form overleaf so we can thank you and recognise your gift within your lifetime.

After settling in Auckland after emigrating from Northern Ireland in the early 1840s, Elizabeth and Charles Knox successfully farmed 500 acres in West Tamaki. Charles died in 1871 followed by Elizabeth in 1908, who lived a full life until 99. She left a bequest for the “purpose of building, endowing and maintaining a hospital or home for poor people suffering from incurable diseases”. Elizabeth Knox’s record of philanthropy and vision, stands today in Elizabeth Knox Home and Hospital. The same charitable trust proudly continues the valuable work that Elizabeth started all those decades ago.

The Eden Alternative principles are extremely important to us, so that’s why we recognise every day as a gift. Our mission is to make sure we add to the fulfilment and enjoyment of every single one.

support of our charity is most welcome

Bequests / Legacies

Donations You can make a donation by bank deposit, cheque or credit card using the form overleaf. The Knox Home Trust is truly appreciative of all donations of any amount. All donations over $5 entitle you to a tax deduction of up to 33%.

We’re not a corporate, so as a not-for-profit charitable trust we are always grateful for any additional support. If you are able to consider making a donation or leaving a bequest or legacy gift we would make good use of it to enhance the care of Knox residents. Your support can help in many ways: - to support ongoing day-to-day service delivery - to embrace new programmes and models of care - to purchase new equipment - to improve and expand our facilities - to support and maintain equipment and facilities

It is important you seek advice We recommend that you discuss your plans with your loved ones so they are aware of the reasons for your decision to make a donation or leave a gift to Knox Home Trust in your Will. Then you can discuss an option which is best for you with your lawyer or Public Trust office. If you have an existing Will, you may simply require a codicil that provides an update of your wishes. If you would like to know more about giving to the Knox Home Trust, we welcome the opportunity to speak with you. Please contact the Chief Executive at Elizabeth Knox Home & Hospital.
