Welcome to my project portfolio for the Super Nintendo World Project at Universal Studios Japan. All assets in this portfolio are original designs. I was primarily responsible for creating print graphics, signage, marquee designs, and concepts for production, print, wardrobe, and operations. Additionaly, my work scope involved photography, colorboards, asset management, preparing assets for IP submittal, and secondary 3D modeling tasks.

Merchandising Insert

This and the previous panel showcase the design process and variations for the Power Up Band merchandising insert. It originally began as a landscape oriented sheet, however a last minute change and request from merchandising requested it be vertically oriented to fit in the packaging, resulting in the final design shown above.

Signage and Marquees
4
The signage showcased on the next four slides display a range of different techniques and details that went into various signage designs. Above is a zoomed in portion of the “Yoshi’s Snack Island” marquee that was to be printed. Typically I would do this with vectors for print quality, however, the vectors were limiting the realism of the chalk texture. To resolve this, the original design was done as a vector, and I additionaly created the chalk texture as a high resolution digital painting. The texture was then printed separately with transparency and applied over the original graphic print to achieve the realistic chalkboard texture. The exit sign displayed on the left was made after harscape had already been installed. To create a cohesive and well-blended design, I created a seamless texture with a high quality photo of the wall texture to make a vinyl print that could be applied over a standard exit sign.

Similar to the chalkboard marquee, this banner was originally made as a flat vector file. Due to its size (roughly 15 meters tall), the fabric texture needed to be readible from a distance. I was able to create a seamless fabric texture that I applied to the graphic. The noise and color variation caused by this was adjusted to match the selected pantone through callibration with the native file and the printer’s machinery settings. Multiple materials were sampled and the vinyl that was used in the final product kept quality and color accuracy as priorities.

my time on the project, I created my signage designs and miscellaneous environmental designs as 3D o be implemented in our working art director walk-around model. Additionally, I was able to apply my knowledge of Adobe programs to create textures for primary models and UV mapping.
t able to showcase the full extend of my work in this portfolio as many were created for a project that is yet nounced, however, I believe what I am able to showcase displays a wide range of design and mplementation for print collateral, concepts, and 3D modelling. Thank you for taking a peak into my work.
