MY OWN BUSINESS WHERE I RECYCLE OLD TIMBER AND TURN IT INTO SUCCULENT PLANTERS OF VARYING SHAPES AND SIZES. FURTERMORE, THIS EXPERIENCE OVER

“CONTNUING FROM CONCEPTUAL DESIGNS WITH THE EMPHASIS ON EXISTING VEGETATION RETENTION, THE FINAL DESIGN HAS MAINTAINED AND FULFILLED THIS VISION. FOR THE GOLD COAST IS RENOWNED FOR ITS NATURAL LANDSCAPE, HOWEVER IT IS NEVER FULLY INTEGRATED WITH. THE CINEMA CONCEPT AIMS TO RETAIN EXISITNG MANGROVE TREES ALONG THE NERANG RIVER, UPLIFITING THE BRANCHES AND USING THEM AS SHELTER, WHICH IS HELPED BY A LIGHTWEIGHT ROOF STRUCTURE ALLOWING PROTECTION AND PROJECTION AREA. IN THE URBAN SENSE THE DESIGN IS A REFLECTION OF THE GOLD COAST SKYLINE ONTO THE GROUND FLOOR PLANE, WHILST THE WAVY/FREE LANDSCAPE OF THE BEACH IS RELFECTED THROUGH THE ROOF FORM PUTTING EMPHASIS ON WHAT IT IS THAT SHOULD BE CELEBRATED ON THE GOLD COAST. ”

THE CLIENTS FOR THIS DWELLING DESIGN WERE A COUPLE WHO LOVED TO BAKE EARLY IN THE MORNING. TAKING THE IDEA OF BAKING
AS AN ‘EXPANSION’ PROCESS, IT WAS ABLE TO BE USED AS THE KEY CONCEPT FOR THE DWELLNG. THE WHOLE FORM OF THE HOUSE IN EVERY DIMENSION THAT IT IS VIEWED... EXPANDS. IT IS THE SUBTLE MOVEMENT OF THE DWELLING COMPONENTS THAT EMULATE THE
EXPANDING FORM, THUS COMFORTING AND COMPLIMENTING THE USERS AND THEIR BAKING ACTIVITES. FOR THE COUPLE WOULD BE USING THE KITCHEN MOSTLY, SO IT IS THE CENTRAL SPACE OF THE LIVING QUARTERS IN WHICH THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO FREELY PASS

TOO OFTEN I WAS COMING IN CONTACT WITH PEOPLE HAVING PLASTIC/FAKE/UNREAL/UGLY/LIFELESS PLANTS IN THEIR INNER-CITY APARTMENTS AND SUBURBAN SHELTERS. A BIT OF HOLIDAY BOREDOM AND A REMINISCING TO SOME OF MY EARLY WOODWORK
I DID AT
HIGH SCHOOL, LED ME TO CRAFTING THE CYPRESS PINE PLANTER SERIES. I INVESTIGATED AND WAS INTRIGUED BY TERRARIUMS AND THEIR
ENCAPSULATING NATURE OF SUCH NATURAL EARTHLY BEAUTY. THIS PARTNERED WITH THE EPIC DISCOVERY OF SUCCULENTS AND HOW THEY
DON'T TAKE ANYMORE THEN THEY NEED WHEN IT COMES TO WATER, MAKING THEM SO VERSATILE AND HARDY. I PUT MY IDEAS TO PAPER AND EVENTUALLY TO THE WORKSHOP (THE SHED WITH A TABLE OUT THE BACK) WHERE I CONTINUE TO PURSUE MY DESIGN AMBITIONS. I
TREAT EACH PIECE I MAKE AS ITS OWN PIECE OF ART, FOR EACH PLANTER IS UNIQUE IN CHARACTER, TELLING DIFFERENT STORIES THROUGH THE GRAIN AND THROUGH THE SHADING OF ITS COLOURS. AT THE END OF THE DAY I WANT PEOPLE TO BE ABLE TO TAKE HOME THE
PLANTERS KNOWING THAT A VERY METICULOUS CRAFTER WAS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THEM, MAKING SURE ALL THE FINE DETAILS ARE FINISHED TO UTMOST PERFECTION. YES MY NAME DID HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE

THROUGH THE TWO YEARS OF MY DEGREE I HAVE ALREADY HAD THE OPPURTUNITY TO CREATE MANY MODELS WHICH HELP ME P 008
UNDERSTAND AND IMPROVE MY DESIGN INTENTIONS. FOR I HAVE COME TO LEARN THAT BY BUILDING MY DESIGNS, I AM THE FIRST BUILDER AND IN COMPLETE UNDERSTANDING OF HOW EVERYTHING WORKS, LOOKS AND FEELS. NOT ONLY ARE MODELS MADE AS A FINAL STEP IN THE DESIGN PROCESS, BUT FOR ME IT IS THE FIRST AND CONTINUAL STEP THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE PROCESS IN WHICH I AM ABLE TO PLAY WITH FORMS AND GRASP AN UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT I AM CREATING.
