Some modules can be inward or outward and in the case of Urban Tulou, it is both.
The vernacular Tulou is very enclosed and solid in its appearance. In creating ease of accessibility, permeability and comfortable living, some of the strategies were applied: 1. Opening up access of ground level-creating connection through the building on ground level. 1.0 mm butynol membrane over 2. Creating internal bridges-connecting and shorten the distance of traveling from one end to 17 plywood @ 2 deg. pitch another

This project sets out to challenge phallocentric tendencies of the contemporary city by inverting and projecting the skyline of Melbourne’s Central Business District into a new type of architecture for women. Refocusing the city away from the objects of the skyline, and towards the spatiality of the skyline, the project questions the assumptions: that man builds and woman inhabits; that man is outside and woman is inside; that man is public and woman is private; and that culture is male and nature is female. The Women Wellness Neighbourhood seeks to create a sense of feeling socially located, mobility and visibility in an environment where members of the community are equally seen and being seen and being. The project questions the orthodoxies of interior and exterior, openings and protrusions, and orientation. The project seeks to create and architecture of reduced separation and breaks down the programs large population into small localised communities where residents all know each other. The project is comprised of a sports and community centre in lower half and residential accommodation in the upper half with a shared outdoor sports hall in between. By elevating the architectural language of ‘ground’ up into the middle section the building social spaces are carved out from the skyline projection allowing the building to project the idea of balance and the celebration of healthier lifestyle to the broader city and its inhabitants. Women in Vanuatu and all over the world don't necessarily get much say in decision making. In 2006, there is less than 3.8% women's involvment in Vanuatu's Parliament, being the lowest in the world (PiauLynch, 2007). Only 17% of women held positions of authority in the public service (OECD, 2007). Men hold most jobs in both the private and public sector. Women make up 83% of full-time home makers in Vanuatu's urban centres. However, w omen still do informal works and business to support their family. Vavine Bulu Women's Resort and the Guiding Girls Vanuatu bring women and young women together to make a change on education, cultural and economy through women voicing out and taking actions. The resort promotes discussion and engagement through open spaces, programmes and architectural forms. The Reception and Girls Guide Centre embraces diversity and promotes exchange of knowledge and culture, promoting the study of culture, contemporary arts, music, crafts etc. Focusing on serving guide girls, the centre aims to help girls and young women grow into confident, self-respecting and responsible community members. In the expressive and monumental centre, young women are comfortable to be themselves and interacting with each other. Inspired by the myth of Perepnap, a wife of sea god that realizes her power to summon the ocean reef to save herself from drowning in the ocean, the undulating form is aimed at provoking emotions and the free flow of the ocean. Four elements of Guide Program: physical, people, practical and self are brought together into one buidling, intertwining to encourage interaction and conversation. 11

The proposed Vavine Bulu, a women’s only resort in Efate, Vanuatu is about women empowerment by challenging the local kastom and providing a platform for women to speak out and stand out. The resort masterplan consists of various weekly design exercise from designing a local people’s gathering space, villas, women’s training centre, commercial hubs, village, guide girls’ campus, sports & recreational facilities and a welcome centre. Jack's Magazine, a fortified gun powder store was designed by William Wardell to keep people out, suiting its function to store explosives and other military equipments. In regards to current context and lifestyle, the complex is proposed to be repurposed as a community centre focusing on the empowerment of the communities by providing a comprehensive learning centre, markets and art gallery. The programs engages communities of all ages through mentoring activities and professional learning approach. The magazine's tall bluestone perimeter wall and earth mound hides the activities inside and creates an element of mystery, drawing people to the site. The proposed design reVtains much of the magazine's earth mounds and engages the people from suburbia into the magazine complex via new structure that slices through the earth mounds and linking people and activties throughout. The design moves are based on the geometries of the site. The key design strategies are: 1) Addition of new "mound" based on the grid/ mound geometry 2) Cutting through creating access-tunnel 3) Reflecting the existing geometries of the magazine and the context

Vietnam is undergoing a period of rapid urbanization and development. Ho Chi Minh, the country’s largest city, is epicentre of this growth. The studio explored how generative or “bottom-up” techniques of design can be used in response to a contingent and fluid context. Located in the centre of District One, the commercial mixed-use tower complex will be the anchor for Ho Chi Minh’s life. The highly dense city is very vibrant in street life and the identity of “tube house” combined with the local’s love for green and public spaces become the main focus in the design of the tower. The aim of the design is to create a new vertical public space on the podium level, linking to nearby landmarks such as the Ben Thanh Market and Cong Vien park. Through observation of void /spaces of tube housing, the agglomeration rule of the agate crystal growth and grid overlay of the city plan were used as the driving formula in designing the tower.
