EXPERT TIPS FOR YOUR BALER CHECKS IN THE SHED

Check that your drawbar height is set correctly. “Opening The Throat” on the baler will increase the amount of crop the baler will eat which will increase your productivity.

Connect all your hydraulic lines to the tractor for your pick-up and bale chamber door, making sure you set the hydraulic flow on your tractor for the bale chamber door so you have a good speed the door opens and closes.

Check the gearbox oil level and make sure it’s on the dip stick. The gearboxes hold very minimal oil so its highly recommended it is replaced every year.

Check the tension of both your drive chains and your pick – up drive chains, too tight could result in premature bearing failure and increased sprocket wear, too loose could result in the chain skipping teeth on the sprockets damaging them or the chain coming off.

CHECKS IN THE FIELD

Load the net wrap, applying baby powder to the net wrap rubber feed roller and a light coat of baby powder to the net wrap roll itself. This will help the feeding of the net wrap though the rollers.

Adjust the pick – up height in the field with the adjusting handle on the baler. You will want “1 inch” clearance between the bottom of the pick-up tine to the ground. Remember that this should be checked everytime you change paddock.

Check the pick-up gauge wheels are adjusted to follow the land, they should not have the weight of the pick-up on them as this will result in premature bearing failure or the wheels being broken off when turning sharp.

Check that your baler monitor has a good 12V battery supply and make sure that all warning icons and symbols are working correctly on the key check. Make sure your bale shape icons are level on the screen and your door switches are not on with the door fully shut.
