WHAT ARE WORN PLANTER PARTS COSTING YOU? Have you ever calculated your seed investment for a 10-hour day of planting? Let’s look at a hypothetical example: A cotton grower with a seeding rate of 160,000 plants per hectare in 40 inch rows with a 8R40 1725NT is planting nearly 1.3 million seeds per hour at 8.0kph or 2.0 million seeds per hour at 13kph Assuming a bag of seeds cost $180...
$180 bag of seed (approximately $0.0009 per seed)
$1,200/hr planting @ 8.0kph $1,800/hr planting @13.0kph Both figures calculated at an average field efficiency of 70%
Either way…in a 10-hour day of planting, That’s a BIG investment. With that many dollars in seed going through your planter meters each hour of the day, isn’t it worth the cost of a meter inspection to ensure you get the most out of that investment?

PLANTER OPTIMISATION Planting preparation is one of the most important steps in your farming operation; getting seed into the ground at the right time, right place and right rate is of paramount importance. At Hutcheon and Pearce, we offer planter solutions that give you complete confidence and peace of mind. Planters cover many acres every planting season. It’s essential to check your implement every season to ensure you are ready to make the most of the planting window. TEST STAND • Planter meters should be hitting 98% accuracy or better. Every percent under this is potential yield loss. Connecting Planter Meters to the Planter Meter Test Stand allows you to know what the current accuracy is and make adjustments to improve accuracy of that meter before the planting season. • The machine can test your rows, one by one; and indicate whether your implement is running efficiently. • The test stand displays results on the GreenStar™ 2630 Display; identifying skips, multiples, coefficient variation (CV), target population and seed singulation percentages.

EXPERT TIPS FOR PRECISION PLANTER
CHECKS IN THE SHED
1
Check the electric wiring and hydraulic connections are connected up correctly to the rear of the tractor.
3
Set-up the SeedStar™ Monitor and Document information to ensure correct set up & that you’re ready to plant when conditions are right.
2
On ground drive machines check the seed transmission and select the right sprocket combination to suit the desired rate. Set the tractors hydraulics for the correct vacuum level needed for the meter and seed type and rate.
4
5
3
4
Inspect seed disc holes, check they are free and not blocked, fit the seed disc and matching knock out wheel for the desired seed and rate. Checking the meter hub height after installing the seed disc will improve desired seed spacing seed. Check the meter baffle position and double eliminator position so it is correct for the seed type.
Check to see if the planter is level on the tractor from side to side and front to back – Adjusting the hitch lift links to level planter main frame side to side, adjustment of top link for levelling the planter front to back. If dealing with a stack fold machine you may need to adjust the level of each wing and make sure the lock pins can be fitted as required.
CHECKS IN THE FIELD
1
Setting up and saving the correct hitch height with the planter connected to the tractor and in the furrow – relive all air pressure in the pneumatic down force so there is zero pressure or on a planter with heavy duty force springs set the leaver into the float position. Parallel arms from the frame to the row unit should be parallel to the ground when looking at the across the planter from one end. This allows maximum travel of the row unit to follow the contour of the ground.
2
Check the ground drive wheels make the proper ground contact so there is no wheel slippage.
Verify the population and seed spacing with a field check by operating the planter for a short distance and check the seed spacing and depth. You will need to make the necessary adjustment for the desired depth, seed spacing and closing wheel.
Don’t forget to regularly inspect all of the planter components throughout the season and make the necessary adjustments.
Remember to book your annual planter preseason inspection with your local Hutcheon and Pearce branch to prevent costly in season down time!

21st Century Farming Using Technology Effectively 21st Century farming is an ever evolving process that requires informed decision making based on collected and stored data from your individual property. This has led to an unprecedented amount of decision making capabilities that can sometimes seem overwhelming for growers. However, having a collaborative relationship with Hutcheon and Pearce, John Deere technology and combined with third party integrations have bridged the gap between good data and the application of this data in ensuring effective decision making. With the technology available we are seeing growers collecting data from a diverse range of sources. Three examples of the most utilised data includes: Yield data from your combine’s yield monitor, as applied rates from your Sprayer, Spreader, Seeder or Planter collected by ISObus or John Deere rate controllers, remote sensing of weather and soil moisture using Pessal Weather Stations alongside moisture meters which measure soil moisture at different depths of profile. These are just some of the valuable points of data collected by your John Deere that can be streamed wirelessly to your secure MyJohnDeere account which can be viewed by you on any desktop or mobile device. The ease of access to these essential data points, using the MyJohnDeere platform, makes it less daunting for the grower to confidently make choices for their property that are analytical. Coming into the planting season, an example of how you could utilise the yield data from the last growing season is calculating phosphorus removal either for your paddock or for multiple paddock zones. Having this information on hand allows for an effective decision to be made regarding the units of phosphorus that need to be replaced in paddock either in a broad rate or in the form of a variable rate prescription. This ensures that the right nutrients are put in the right place.
Hutcheon and Pearce and John Deere have multiple resources to assist growers in the collecting, management and utilization of their data like that which was mentioned above and more. These resources are, but are not limited to; the TECSight Field Support team which can assist with the on farm implementation of data collection through the optimization of your John Deere AMS and remote sensing technology, the Hutcheon and Pearce TECSight Call Center, who are a team of Solution Specialists ready to take your call to help with any troubleshooting that may arise. 21st century farming can seem daunting but with Hutcheon and Pearce personnel and John Deere technologies the process can be made seamless, simple and sustainable well into your successful farming future.

ExactEmerge™ & SeedStar™
Contact your local Hutcheon & Pearce Branch for more information
SeedStar™ 3 HP Monitor Building upon the foundation of previous SeedStar™ monitoring, the SeedStar™ 3 HP monitoring system takes planter monitoring to the next level. When paired with a compatible Display, the SeedStar™ 3 HP monitoring system provides critical information about the planting process to the operator within the tractor cab. The SeedStar™ 3 HP planting functions are fully integrated with the full range of Precision Ag Technology applications such as John Deere Section Control for Planters, AutoTrac™ assisted steering system, John Deere Operations Center, JDLink™ telematics system, and others. Integrated planting technologies, for better asset utilization and ease of use, is just part of what SeedStar™ 3 HP provides. Check banks or waterways are two of many obstacles that make planting on a curve challenging. When planters utilize drive shafts, they are not able to control each individual row-unit; as a result, planting on a curve presents an issue of maintaining 100 percent population. Since the inside rows are moving slower than the outside rows, the inside rows will be over populating while the outside rows are under populating.
ExactEmerge™ With ExactEmerge™ planters and equipped MaxEmerge™ 5e planters, the curve compensation feature allows each row to receive an individual signal based on the speed at which the row-unit is moving, maintaining the correct population across the width of the planter. Without curve compensation, there could be as much as a 24 percent drop in population accuracy, which is equivalent to 24,000 seeds per hectare when planting at a rate of 100,000 seeds per hectare. Curve compensation measures acceleration within the main planter controller and utilizes speed inputs to ensure each row has the desired population accuracy. ExactEmerge™ planter brush-style double eliminator and rumble strip increase uptime. This double eliminator has an inner and outer design. The inner double eliminator is capable of being engaged or disengaged with no tools required for adjustment. The outer double eliminator is non-adjustable. Uptime - Seed changeover has never been easier or quicker with ExactEmerge™. If there is a little seed leftover in the minihopper, there are many effortless ways to clear the meter. The ExactEmerge™ meters disconnect from the row-unit by one simple latch and disconnect the vacuum and Central Commodity System (CCS™) hose and remove the meter. The operator can then manually dump the excess seed back into a bag. Industry-exclusive bowl-shaped disks offered with ExactEmerge™ planter allows for uniform planter performance even on slopes. Increase productivity with ExactEmerge™ trench delivery system and BrushBelt™ delivery system. ExactEmerge™ maintains accurate speed placement at previously unimaginable ground speeds; growers can avoid missing that peak planting time, thereby helping to get the highest crop yields. With the BrushBelt™ trench delivery system, the spacing in the trench does not change from even to uneven terrain or fast to slow ground speeds. This can be a problem with a traditional seed tubes. Seed bounce and ricochet may occur as slopes increases, ultimately decreasing seed spacing performance. Gauge Wheel - A trademark capability of the John Deere row-unit is the ability to provide consistent seed depth control in all field conditions. Depth Control is a function of the Tru-Vee openers, the downforce system and the gauge wheel assembly. Pneumatic closing wheels give producers the ability to adjust closing wheels in seconds without leaving the cab of the tractor.

TRADE & UPGRADE WE WANT YOUR GREENSTAR! DO YOU HAVE OLD RECEIVERS LYING AROUND? WE WILL BUY OR TRADE YOUR OLD RECEIVERS!
Why upgrade to the John Deere StarFire 6000 Receiver? GREATER ACCURACY: The John Deere StarFire 6000 Receiver is an enhanced replacement for the StarFire 3000 Receiver and expands on the value that precision agriculture growers have come to expect from StarFire products. The StarFire 6000 Receiver implements an improved antenna, the latest in Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signal processing technology, and a differential correction signal. This technology adds up to improved performance and uptime as well as lower cost of operation when paired with precision agriculture systems such as AutoTrac™ assisted steering system and John Deere Section Control. Accuracy improvements are as follows: • • •
SF1 on a 6000 receiver will give you +/- 15 cm horizontal pass-to-pass accuracy, compared to +/- 25 cm on a 3000 receiver. SF3 on a 6000 receiver will give you +/- 3 cm horizontal pass-to-pass accuracy, compared to +/- 5 cm on an SF2 3000 receiver. No repeatability calculation on a 3000 receiver compared to a 6000 running SF3 of +/- 3 cm in season and RTK of +/- 2.5 cm long term.
TAKE ADVANTAGE OF RTK EXTEND™ SYSTEM FOR UP TO 14 DAYS: RTK operators have experienced the value that RTK Extend provides when operating in areas where communication with the RTK base station or mobile RTK network is challenging, such as in hilly terrain or heavy trees. The StarFire 6000 and StarFire 6000 Integrated make another step change in RTK Extend performance compared to their predecessor, delivering RTK Extend for up to 14 days. Compare this to the previous StarFire 3000 Receiver that was only capable of RTK Extend of up to 15 minutes.
IMPROVE UPTIME WITH MULTIPLE STARFIRE SIGNAL TRACKING The StarFire 6000 and StarFire 6000 Integrated Receivers simultaneously track correction signals from up to three StarFire correction satellites. The receiver tracks and uses correction signals from all StarFire satellites in view and intelligently chooses one that delivers the best performance. When the receiver moves into an area where the primary StarFire signal is blocked, such as near a tree line, the receiver automatically switches to an alternate StarFire signal (if visible) to help maintain accuracy and performance. Compare this to the previous StarFire 3000 Receiver that was only capable of tracking one StarFire signal at a time and could wait up to four minutes to initiate the switch to the next available signal. With the StarFire 6000 and StarFire 6000 Integrated Receivers, the user has improved performance and uptime when operating precision agriculture systems, like AutoTrac™ assisted steering system and Section Control in challenging areas, when compared to the previous
StarFire 3000.
