EXPERT TIPS FOR YOUR COTTON PICKER YIELD CALIBRATION Perform the Standard Yield Calibration at the start of each harvest season in field. Harvest a yield sample of 3 modules & weigh the 3 modules. Check the module serial numbers are changing as you start picking.

DATA Cotton picking data is important so check the software for your display, receiver and harvest ID controller. Delete previous picking DATA and have the new set-up file loaded and ready to go with correct grower and GIN ID details. If your picker has JDConnect then check the subscription expiry date and also make sure your partnership details are correct for the grower or GIN to have access to the module information.

CHECK ROW UNITS Clean each row unit and check for spindle wrap and plugging of cotton in the doffer column. Check and clean the moisture pads and doffer door sensor plate. Make sure the suction doors are free of debris. Check the pressure plate door and adjust as needed.

CLEANING PICKER Always clean your picker starting from the top of the machine, working down to the bottom in each operating mode. Ensure there is no cotton or trash around the forming belts or rollers and the feeder belts, as this will affect the way the belt will track. Be sure to remove any cotton trash from any speed sensors on the machine.

HEIGHT Check the spindle to doffer height and spindle to moisture tower and adjust as needed.

EXPERT TIPS FOR YOUR COTTON PICKER LUBE & TETHER Carry out the lube and tether for the row units and check for grease to come out of at least two of the top six spindles on each spindle bar. Whilst checking, look for dead spindles.

LEADING EDGE OF WRAP After cleaning or transporting the machine, be sure the leading edge of the wrap is pulled forward and in the right position. Check the plastic fingers aren’t missing. They can sometimes rearward when opening and closing the gate. Check the steel fingers don’t contact the forming belts.

WARM MACHINE UP Make sure to warm the machine up before you start picking. The best way is to run the fans, row units and press on the foot switch to run the RMB, and be at high idle for 5 to 10 minutes. You will need to run the machine longer in cooler weather before you start picking.

EMPTY MACHINE Remember that at the end of the day you need to empty the machine and not leave any cotton in the accumulator and RMB.

The gate latch wear plate provides heat-treated hardened plates and mounting plate which welds over the hook. John Deere Spindle Grease provides the total lubrication for all the moving parts in the complex high speed row unit. CLEANING SYSTEM John Deere Spindle Cleaner protects and cleans the picker spindles by cleaning dirt, plant material and other contaminates from the spindle. It guards against wear, rust, corrosion and oxidation. The cleaner will keep moisture pads from drying out, hardening or cracking and helps keep doffers plyable and in good condition. It is compatible with the spindle grease, so it will not wash spindle grease out of the critical areas of the spindle assembly like soap does.
