The MD’s message Arron Hutcheon- Managing Director
Since the last newsletter was published, the team at Hutcheon and Pearce have been busy! This last month has seen the conclusion of the 2015 cotton harvest season, and what a season it was, with strong yields and solid prices! It’s great to see the increased focus and growth of the cotton industry in the Riverina. We have been busy reviewing and changing processes in order to deliver an improved customer experience while gaining process efficiency across the larger group with the expectation of increasing our no#1 goal customer satisfaction. The sales, service and parts teams have been busy implementing new procedures that will facilitate smoother transactions across the board; it is important to note that most of these process changes are a requirement for the transition to the new John Deere Sales Centre in March 2016. The John Deere Sales Centre or Order Management is the program that we use to quote, build, source and pay for all our new John Deere equipment that we sell. The details of these projects will be rolled out and fully functioning by Harvest 2015. True to our word we have been busy
recruiting and investing in our people. I’m please to communicate that over the last quarter we have filled some key positions as well as added some needed capacity in a few areas. We have some exciting news about the progress our HPA (High Performance Academy) with the relocation of the HPA TAFE facility out to the PIC campus at North Wagga. This will be a game changer for Hutcheon and Pearce and the HPA! We are planned to sign a MOU with the Riverina Institute of TAFE sometime in August. I’m also pleased to say we have now finalised the team members who have taken up the challenge, these individuals will be the first intake for the “Manage” piece of the HPA program. Our primary goal of this 18 month program is to prepare these individuals for their first management assignment. Finally, rain this past week has been a great boost of confidence for the upcoming winter crop. The multimillion dollar question is, as it is every year - will the spring rains get us home to take advantage of what is looking like some solid prices? Thank you for your business and thank you for your support! Arron Hutcheon.

Michael Keenan recently purchased a John Deere 6115M Mouser (inset right) in May 2015. To suit his new Almond Business, Michael chose a John Deere for ease of operator use, to blend in with and utilise existing GreenStar components, suitable HP range, owner operator comfort, change of dealership ownership with greater customer focus, resale value and genuine John Deere reliability. Michael has not traditionally used John Deere but in recent years has purchased a 8360RT along with John Deere RTK Guidance and can now see the benefits of having reliable machinery with excellent back up that reduces costing downtime and added expenditure on repairs. Michael’s operation is diversifying into almonds because the existing infrastructure from the Orange Orchards pulled out 8 years ago. Michael could see opportunity in the nut industry globally due to healthier lifestyle and eating habits, good return per meg of water compared to existing crops, and the cost of land forming to improve water efficiencies currently has large cost savings attached.

Apprenticeship and Traineeship Profiles Adam Kent - Service Apprentice Finley & Rebecca Keatley - Parts Sales Trainee Wagga
Adam Kent started his apprenticeship in January 2012 after completing his HSC. Prior to that he had done 2 weeks of year ten work experience and both year 11 and 12 work place for my VET subjects with the company. “My teacher always asked me why I didn’t go somewhere else for a change but right from the start I knew this I where I wanted to be. What I liked most was the variety of things I got to work on, from lawnmowers to harvesters and 80 to 510 horsepower tractors. Everyday was always different. In a day you could go from getting covered in grease and oil to a nice clean AMS job, always hoping for the clean jobs first. GPS is what I always wanted to focus on but doing my trade as well kept me involved in all areas. Being so involved in all areas has kept me very busy and the company has given me great opportunities
2
to learn, always giving me the best training possible. Not only have I had the best TAFE training and done a number of John Deere courses but the experience and knowledge within the workshop is great. From parts to sales as well as the workshop everyone is always willing to lend a hand in the Hutcheon and Pearce family. I don’t believe that I could have got all the opportunities that Hutcheon and Pearce have given me anywhere else. I have developed a relationship with Hutcheon and Pearce and their customers gaining hard earned respect from both. We understand that the job is not plain old 9 till 5 and that if a job has to be done it has to be done. I get great satisfaction helping the customer when the pressure is on. Rain, hail or shine I know that tomorrow there will be a new challenge in front of me and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
Bec Keatley is completing Certificate III in Automotive Sales (Parts Interpreting) through Hutcheon and Pearce. “I love the on the job learning and support I receive from my team. TAFE is very one on one and I definitely benefit from this level of training. Hutcheon and Pearce have their own internal John Deere University online training which is great to do because its related to the products and machines we work with. The best part I love about Hutcheon and Pearce is having the opportunity to get out on the road and work with the Parts teams from other branches. Although I’m based in Wagga, I really like that we get to meet and work along side them and can help each other out.” If you are interested in a career not just a job, why not apply through the TOPGUN recruitment program.

Tractor and seeder demonstrations return positive results Craig Christensen - Albury Branch Manager
Hutcheon and Pearce have been conducting demonstrations of John Deere and Bourgault farm machinery in Burrumbuttock, Balldale and Corowa recently with some very promising results. The John Deere 8345RT track tractor and Bourgault 3320 Paralink seeder have been put through their paces and customer feedback shows satisfaction in many areas. Hutcheon and Pearce Salesman Keith Kilo said customers commented on the track tractors outstanding forward vision, large size and quietness of cab and also the ability to run Autotrac through the tractors 10” command centre. “They were very impressed with the simplicity of the Bourgault seeder cart, calibration was simple to carry out and accurate, the filling auger was very easy to manoeuvre to fill and empty the cart and the work area around the top of the bins was quite safe,” he said. “The seed placement of the 3320 paralink bar is very even and ground following ability is excellent because each tyne has its own depth control.” Hutcheon and Pearce salesman Steve Tregenza said the demonstration of the 8345RT showed its ability to transition 345hp
to the ground and achieve maximum traction with potentially minimal crop damage due to the track width options. Steve commented that the new command centre 4 option had also impressed customers and the track suspension system has also received positive feedback. “The Bourgault 6530 3 bin aircart, at 12300 litres capacity, offers tank flexibility to move product in double shoot, mid row banding or single shoot delivery options. It has patented kenex integral tank design, accurate product metering with plated steel metering augers and in cab rate adjustments. “The 3320 Paralink bar allows one pass seeding with the incorporation of mid row banding to achieve optimal seed to fertiliser placement and simple depth control. It also has full in cab control of packing and tyne force from low pack of 25kg up to 90kg, one click of the pressure control will adjust the system pressure by 50psi.” For more information on the demonstrated equipment or to inquire about the results of the seeding demonstrations please contact Keith Kilo on 0428267337 or Steve Tregenza on 0428578716.

Safety is a shared responsibility Peter Goodsell - Work, Health and Safety Manager
A recent case that went to the NSW Court of Appeal reinforces one of the key aspects of Work, Health & Safety legislation – safety is everyone’s responsibility.
employer neither knew nor ought to have known of the risk the box posed, and there were no measures the occupier of the premises could have taken to reduce the risk.
We, as employees, have a responsibility to take reasonable care of our own health and safety.
The judge said there were no precautions the employer could have taken to avoid the risk of injury, and the worker could have “walked around the box and avoided the accident”, as she had done many times earlier that day.
This includes being aware of and identifying potential hazards in our workplace.
A brief summary of the case appears below.
“The [worker] merely failed to walk past an obvious box in the middle of the room and was the author of her own injury. It was in her hands to protect herself from any risk and she did not do so,” he said in dismissing her claims.
A worker who was injured when she tripped over a box at work has been denied damages, after the NSW Court of Appeal found it wasn’t reasonable for her to expect her workplace to be free from “obvious” hazards.
“Taking no precautions whatsoever may be a reasonable response to a risk, because it can reasonably be assumed that adults will take reasonable care for their own safety and will not reasonably expect premises to be free from obvious hazards,” they said.
The Court also made the interesting statement that it was unreasonable to expect workplaces to be risk-free.
The Court found that at the time of the incident, the worker’s

Parts Van and John Deere Parts Cabinets Mitch Chaffer - Parts Van Sales Representative
Over the last 12 months, we have been busy with a new initiative known as Parts On Site. Parts On Site is an on farm stocking program designed to minimise down time and to ensure you have service items on hand for the current season. We currently have 23 Parts On Site Cabinets set up all over the Hutcheon and Pearce area, with many more to set up over the next few weeks. H&P have set these Parts On Site cabinets up for customers that are involved in broad acre farming, mixed farming, irrigated land and orchards. Depending on individual parts consumption, we usually restock these cabinets every 4-8 weeks. This makes sure that customers always have the maintenance parts on hand to get the job done. Some typical parts that are stocked onsite include filters, bulbs, high wear maintenance items and oil. If required, we can supply the cabinet to you free of charge with a first initial set up of parts and oil, providing minimum purchase values are met. We simply charge these parts to your account, and then we routinely stock that according to your annual hour usage and demand for parts in certain seasons. Not only can we stock genuine John Deere maintenance parts, we also can supply oil and other aftermarket parts to fully service your total fleet of equipment. We have access to major aftermarket parts suppliers and can provide a genuine John Deere oil solution for your fleet. We can maintain the stocking of all makes and models maintenance parts to help minimise worry in the servicing period.
Count on us to keep to you going all year round with the Parts Van and John Deere cabinets.
If you are interested in this solution call me on 0447014206 or send me an email at mchaffer@hutcheonandpearce.com.au. I would be happy to provide a free on farm evaluation and quote for all you machines, with detailed parts and filter breakdowns to aid in knowing what the right part for the right machine is.

Well done to Australian Rice Growers on 100 Years
“In 1989 I stood in a Coleambally Rice Field with John Payne, watching one of the first of many Shelbourne Reynold Rice Strippers in action. Twenty Five years later, I am still a excited as ever about the Shelbourne Reynolds Rice Stripper Header as ever. Shelbourne’s continued development of this Rice Harvest Revolution has meant it is still at the fore front of Rice Harvesting Technology Today. I congratulate the Australian Growers on 100 years as world leading producers, and all of us at Hutcheon and Pearce are looking to being part of your future”. Drive Green Event Ashley Irvine - Small Ag and Turf Sales Representative - Albury
Albury Hutcheon and Pearce has just had its first DRIVE GREEN EVENT for winter 2015 on Saturday 13th and 20th of June. It was a great couple of days where a number of people come to see what John Deere has to offer in the compact tractor range. On Display we had the 1, 2, 3 and 4 series of John Deere compact tractors ranging from 23.5hp to 66hp. Also on display where TITIAN and John Deere loaders to suit all models, drive over decks as well as a number of other attachments. It was a good opportunity to find a compact tractor just the right size for the job as they were all there lined up ready to go. The costumers who drove them really enjoyed putting these machines through their paces by moving piles of dirt and bark chips and testing for themselves just how easy it is to put on and take off the 1 series drive over mower deck. I was a great day had by all.

FarmLink and Hutcheon & Pearce Andrew Sands - Group Sales Manager
It gives us all at Hutcheon and Pearce great pleasure to announce our ongoing commitment to FarmLink research for 2015. FarmLink Research Limited (FarmLink) is a not for profit agricultural research and extension organisation in southern NSW owned by growers and involves advisers and researchers. FarmLink’s main objective is to coordinate and communicate private, public and grower group funded research and development activities within in the region. FarmLink has been operating since 2003. There are three main parts to the business including research, communication and collaboration. Farmlink has it’s office located at the Temora Ag Research Station which also provides a location for many of its trial projects. FarmLink in conjunction with Temora Shire Council recently took delivery of a new John Deere 6105M, the ideal tractor for multiple applications that FarmLink undertake. It will perform duties like spraying, mowing, cultivation and seeding along with light earthworks thanks to its John Deere H310 Self Leveling Loader that was fitted. Hutcheon and Pearce has also fitted a Greenstar wiring harness to the tractor so activities can be performed with Precision Ag and guidance. Hutcheon and Pearce feels privileged and looks forward to being involved with FarmLink over the coming year.

A great day was had by all on Saturday 11th April on the return two man Ambrose match between Wagga & Albury. In all we had 20 participants have a swing with staff from Wagga, Albury, SRO & Griffit. Unfortunately for Wagga, Albury’s untapped talent (& recruiting) was a bit too much on the day and the trophy is heading South for the year.
Nett scores being 330 to 306. Thanks to all for having a hit with what I would say a few sore shoulders, arms (& heads) on Sunday. Next year it was mentioned that Griffith will be the host (and maybe a mix of Bowls thrown in). Sounds good and I’m sure they’ll put a good show on for us.

Funds raised for Nepal By Matt Duffy - HR Mentor Well done to all, the money we raised was the phenomenal amount of $2750.00. Thank you who were able to spare a few dollars. I am sure with their wet season due anytime our donation will be very much appreciated.
Our money is going to Kathmandu Rotary Club via South Wagga Rotary Club. Originally we were to donate some survival packs at $800 each which included tent, water and food for a family to last 5 weeks. My father went over to visit his associates and check what best to do with the money he has raised and ours. They have sufficient food and water so with the wet season on its way SHELTER is what is important. Kathmandu Rotary Club is supplying temporary housing which consists of frame work, waterproof tarp, straw and some corrugated iron. The frame goes up, tarp over that, straw over that and then the iron. They then use earthquake rubble to build a front and back wall to the best of their ability. The temporary house cost $150 to put together so between our $2750 and Dad’s $6800 we will get a lot of families out of the weather. Thanks.

Customer Profile - 9R Scraper Tractor WS & AM Holden – “Denaley” Deniliquin By Myles O’Kane - Sales Representative Finley
April this year saw Hutcheon and Pearce Finley branch deliver the first new generation 9R Scraper Tractor. In August last year discussions with Bill Holden and his son Jarrod saw the need to replace the John Deere 9430 Scraper Tractor which was starting to clock up a lot of hours from laser grading over the last few years mainly working on projects related to the on farm efficiency scheme. After a few different options they saw the advantage of the Hutcheon and Pearce forward order program which allowed them to purchase the tractor at a competitive price and also get it built to suit their requirements. The final decision was made to purchase a John Deere 9520R with a Tier 2 13.5lt John Deere engine. John Deere Scraper Tractors are no unchartered territory for Jarrod as they have been running a fleet of John Deere 9000 series tractors for almost 15 years. Their current tractors are the new 9520R and also a 9510R with 14ft Horwood Bagshaw buckets. The tractors do around 15002000 hours each year so therefore good parts backup and service are critical. Jarrod gets all the work done on the tractors by the Finley workshop and is impressed by the availability and skill level of the workshop staff. Most of the service work is done out on site and the tractors don’t often make their way back to the workshop. They are setup and work from day one. Bill and Jarrod also run a fleet of John Deere headers which are used for both wheat and rice harvest contracting. They have one John Deere S680 and two John Deere 9770 headers which were all bought new through the Finley branch. Because the headers are used on contracting jobs they are annually serviced by our header service team. Ben Burge, header technician, does the majority of the work as he lives close to Holden’s and is able to keep an eye on the headers when they are working locally during the rice harvest. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Holden family for the continued support through Armstrongs Finley, Hutcheon A&G Finley and Hutcheon and Pearce Finley dealerships in the sales/service/parts divisions. They are great advocates for our product and are always keen to try new products and give many other customers sound advice when considering new purchases.
