Theclubfacilitiesandequipmentnowservicemorethan200 maleandfemalewoodcrafters andwoodartistspursuingarange ofactivities,includingwood
turning,smallboxmaking,wood carving,furnituremaking,scroll sawworkandpyrography.
Productsfromthesalvaged timbersfromtheHutchies’site willincludewigstandsfor cancerpatients,breedingboxes forwildlife,flagcasesfor deceasedveteransaswellas otherwoodenartandcraft pieces.
A NEWbrewerybeingbuiltby HutchiesforBundabergBrewed DrinksinQueensland’sBurnett regionwillbeamajorboostforthe brewer’sstrategytoexpandexport ofitslocalproducttotheworld.
BundabergBrewedDrinkswas recentlycrownedExporterofthe YearattheQueenslandPremier’s ExportAwardsandnamed winneroftheAgribusiness,Food andBeveragescategory.

Thehotelwasbuiltin1910butfellinto
disrepairbeforebeingincludedinthe redevelopmentofIpswich’scityheart. IpswichMayor,TeresaHarding,saidthe NicholasStreetPrecinctislargelyaboutthe new–cafes,fastfoodoutlets,bars,restaurants,andretailstores.
“Butthereisanoldgemhiddeninthis newly-developedarea–thecentury-old CommonwealthHotel,”MayorHardingsaid. Councilacquiredthehotelin2014and beganrepairs,withpieces,earmarkedtobe restoredandrepaired,storedoffsiteina councildepot.
Therestorationhasincludedrecycledbricks, floorboardsandstainedglasswindows. Aheritageadvisor,aswellasaspecialist architectandprojectengineersensured importantknowledgeaboutthehotelguided itsreconstruction.
TheCommonwealthHotelhasbeen meticulouslyrestoredtopreserveitsheritage characterandtheextensionofthehotelby Hutchieswilltransformthesiteintoastate-ofthe-artdiningandentertainmenthub,with indoorandoutdoordining,afeaturecocktail bar,beergarden,andfunctionrooms.
Aushotelshassignedonashoteloperator anddoorsareexpectedtoopenforbusiness byChristmasthisyear.

PaulDeJong(COTY1995), formerteamleaderinCairns, startedwithHutchiesasacarpenterthenmoveduptositeforeman, sitemanagerandthenteamleader.
Paulcreditshisfather,Michael, asthefounderofthelongrelationshipthatexistsbetweenthe HutchinsonandDeJongfamilies.
Brothers,RayandWalterDe Jong,alsowereearlystartersinthe relationship.
PaulsaidRayandWalterworked onafarmtogetherandbuilttheir ownhomes.
Teamleader,PaulDeJong(COTY1995),withson,Jacob,a third-generationDeJongworkingwithHutchies.Jacob,who hasnowfinishedhistradewithHutchies,wasApprenticeof theYearinCairnsofficein2020andNationalApprenticeofthe Yearin2021.
