What kind of Future do you want?
As we approach the 2012 Youth Forum on Climate Change in Port of Spain on 9 June, Earth Conscious magazine, in collaboration with the United Nations Information Centre for the Caribbean Area (UNIC), invites you to share your dreams and aspirations for a sustainable future. What does your future look like in your dreams? What kind of world do you want to live in? What future would you want for your children? What kind of community would you like to live in ten, twenty or thirty years from now? What is your dream? You are invited to write a short essay (up to 500 words) and send it, along with your photo, to hutchlin2@gmail.com or ttyouthforum@gmail.com. You can also create video and audio messages up to two minutes long and send to us. Essays, videos and audios will be posted at the Youth Forum and UNIC Web sites, and on the Youth Forum facebook page. They will also inform presentations at the Youth Forum and be submitted to the Future We Want project, to be considered for exhibition at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio +20).
The Youth Forum on Climate Change, themed ‘The Future we want: Green Economy, Sustainable Society’, will be held just prior to Rio+20 (20-22 June). The Forum will explore the ways in which environmentally (and therefore economically) sustainable development is directly tied to achieving the future we want. The second Youth Forum on Climate Change will include discussions on: • Creating the Future We Want: developing a green and sustainable society. • Building Green, Sustainable Careers. • Green Economy - Sustainable Society: taking personal responsibility. Rio + 20 is an unprecedented opportunity to shape the future we want. Official discussions will focus on two main themes: how to build a green economy to achieve sustainable development and lift people out of poverty; and how to improve international coordination for sustainable development.
