PATIO PAVING | BLOCK PAVING | EDGINGS & COPINGS

Welcome

Landscaping the garden and driveway of our home is arguably the best ‘value for money’ home improvement investments that can be made. Current poor interest rates on savings and low house price inflation makes home landscaping an excellent investment. Good landscaping will immediately create a visual statement about your home, an impression of your lifestyle, enhancing the desirability and ultimately the value of your home. Within this brochure we seek to inspire and assist you in selecting the right choice of materials for your landscaping project whatever your budget and choice of design style. Our extensive range of concrete materials are at the forefront of sustainability, factoring lower carbon emissions into manufacturing and are one of the first companies in our sector to achieve the Carbon Trust Standard. So whether you seek a traditional English garden, with hand dressed natural stone paving and walling, or a modern, bold contemporary garden, we are confident that you will discover your perfect hard landscaping materials are from Pavestone. Regards,

Jon Layton Commercial Director Pavestone UK Limited

Pavestone concrete products are manufactured using 100% electricity supplied from Renewable Resources via generation which is Climate Change Levy exempt.

Florentina With Florentina, your patio will reflect the feel of the sun-drenched Mediterranean. The fresh paving colours and subtly embedded contrasting blocks of natural stone, create a stylish contemporary feel. A seductive blend of natural stone charm and the practicality of the sturdy M-Coat® protection. Create your own contemporary design from the patterned, black, blue-grey or beige flags. Florentina paving can also be used internally to create a seamless transition of flooring from the kitchen or conservatory into the garden.

Guaranteed to look good for 10 years. Frost resistant Algae and moss resistant Efflorescence free Stain resistant Easy clean

It is possible that there will be slight colour variations between tiles with and without blocks.

Your patio is an extension of your home, a place for children to play, a place to party, a place to relax. So you may want to keep it spotlessly clean, if so then there is no better paving solution than Pavestone Contemporary Paving. Many of us have spent a lot of money having beautiful new patios laid with good looking concrete paving only to become disappointed when efflorescence (a stubborn ‘salt’ like residue) appears a short while after being laid, and a few years later when the paving becomes faded, stained and tired looking. Thanks to a unique coating, each slab has an amazing dirt-repellent transparent protective layer. Dirt just doesn’t have a chance to ingress the surface. Even fat and oil from your barbeque won’t penetrate the protection.

4

FLORENTINA

Never use Rock Salt or De-Icing Salts on concrete paving. Salt corrodes and destroys all concrete through a chemical reaction and in addition will exaggerate the natural freeze thaw cycles that erode the surface of concrete.

FLORENTINA

5

To clean the patio, simply mop over with soapy water or a proprietary floor cleaner as you would do your kitchen floor to leave it spotless and hygienically clean for the next family activity. Pavestone Contemporary Paving is not only stylish and easy to clean but has been designed with considerations to protect it from the elements that seek to deteriorate and blemish ordinary paving slabs. During the winter, water ingresses into the surface of conventional paving slabs and as temperatures fall to below freezing the water turns to ice and expands. This expansion causes the surface to erupt and results in tiny pin holes. This process repeated over the many frosts of a winter leaves conventional slabs with a rough texture, spoiling the surface and allowing algae and dirt to adhere. Pavestone Premier Paving with its unique protective coating won’t allow the ingress of water and so preserves the beauty of the paving even through the harshest winters. With no rough surfaces, algae and moss cannot adhere either and so your patio remains as good as new!

PERMEABLE BLOCK PAVING

CLAYS

Pluvio permeable block paving is a Sustainable Urban Drainage Solution (SUDS) suitable for your driveway. When laid, spaces are formed between each block that allows rainfall to drain into the natural water-courses, rather than into the potentially overloaded water drainage systems and resulting in the possibility of localised flooding. Ideal for modern house driveways with its crisp appearance.

Grasspark Grasspark is a permeable paving grid which allows grass to grow through whilst providing hard standing suitable for parking cars and vans on. Ideal for creating discreet, extra parking spaces, yet at the same time keeping the area essentially grassland. These authentic reclaimed clay pavers are ‘harvested’ from the streets and alleyways of European towns and cities when they are being modernised or replaced. Their timeless charm translates perfectly into driveways and pathways through the garden.

● Pavestone was one of the first UK manufacturing companies to work with the Carbon Trust in order to measure our carbon output. This knowledge helps us to create changes to our manufacturing and supply chain activities to reduce the amount of carbon we produce. In doing this we are able to demonstrate our progress and our positive contribution towards the climate change.

Sustainability Pavestone strives to minimise and continually reduce the adverse impacts of all our operations both in the immediate, local environment and throughout our supply chain globally. We also seek to contribute to the economic success of the communities in which we work and to provide a safe, secure working environment for both our employees and our supplier partners’ employees.

Corporate Social Responsibility Our Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives seek to make our businesses more accountable for our actions and decisions. We are committed to full legal compliance in all that we do and to make our business accountable to those that we directly or indirectly impact upon through the adoption of good practices. Practices include: ● Creating a safe environment and a rewarding career for all our employees. ● Hold regular local residents 'open meetings' to discuss our impact on their local life. ● Monitoring and managing the environmental impact of all our

operations. ● Monitoring and understanding the environmental impact of our suppliers operations.

"We work closely with local and national groups to develop an understanding of what to do and how we can positively contribute to economic, social and environmental well-being across all the areas where we have operations. We will benchmark and evaluate all that we do in order that we might constantly improve." Kevin Fowler, Managing Director.

Pavestone’s manufacturing operations reduced its carbon emissions by an astounding 19.2% in 2011. This represents a total carbon emission reduction, since implementation of the scheme some three years ago, of in excess of 55%. environmental legislation changes. ● Managing our activities in line with best business practice to

control the impact on the local community of noise, dust, light emissions and traffic movements. ● Annual reduction in energy consumption, water usage, waste

production and improved segregation for reuse/recycling

“This is a tremendous achievement for any manufacturing company and a particularly tremendous achievement for a manufacturer of precast concrete products. Our 2011 Carbon Trust assessment confirms that we are one of the UK’s most sustainable precast concrete manufacturers and demonstrates our continued commitment to further reducing our carbon footprint and to minimising our impact on the environment.”

● Production of environmentally friendly ranges of products.

Main initiatives include: ● Ensuring environmental issues are considered carefully at all levels when planning and conducting business activities and that our employees understand and act in accordance with our environmental aims. ● Working co-operatively with regulatory bodies, including the

Environment Agency and Local Authorities in addition to our industry trade association, the Builders' Merchants Federation (BMF) so as to facilitate full awareness and contribution to

28

SUSTAINABILITY

Bekstone, the concrete manufacturing division of Pavestone, won the 2011 Oxford County Council Sustainability Category at the Oxford Business Awards. The judges were particularly impressed with the use of reclaimed aggregates and recycled water in addition to 100% sustainable ‘green’ electricity to power both production facilities and offices. Our range of building materials has proved highly popular with house developers and specifiers who are looking for traditional walling and architectural masonry products, which offer proven sustainability and allow the developer to gain a higher rating against The Code For Sustainable Homes.

Climate Change Policy Pavestone recognises it has a responsibility to minimise the impact caused by its operations and supply chain on the climate. As such we continue to review, measure and monitor our operational procedures so that we continue to make improvements to reduce emissions that contribute towards Climate Change. Principally: ● The use of 100%

'green' electricity at our production plants and offices. Electricity that is used to power our production machinery, light, heat and general power is supplied from renewable resources via generation which is Climate Change Levy exempt. Contributing sources include wind turbines and hydro electric generators. The system is audited by Lloyds Register Quality Assurance within ISO 9001 : 2000.

The Carbon Trust Standard is awarded only to organisations that measure, manage and reduce their carbon footprint and organisations that achieve the Standard are taking real action to reduce their direct impact on climate change. Pavestone is one of only 300 or so UK companies to achieve the Standard. The Carbon Trust was established in June 2008 and certification was created to provide a much needed clear and robust definition of good practice and for use as an independent endorsement of an organisation’s achievements in carbon reduction. Working with leading organisations the trust certifies their performance in measuring, managing and reducing their greenhouse gas emissions and provides an objective benchmark against which to assess an organisation's commitment and success in addressing its climate change impact. To read more about The Carbon Trust Standard visit the website at www.carbontruststandard.com

Environmental Policy Pavestone recognises that it has an obligation to help protect the environment and the neighbourhoods in which we operate. This awareness is a fundamental part of the Pavestone business strategy. We will seek, as far as is reasonably practicable, to minimise the company's effects on the environment:

This inspiring new property is not a show house, but a building that show-cases the very latest sustainable cladding materials and green technologies and gives people an insight into the planned 5,000 home eco settlement, in north west Bicester.

Pavestone is fully committed to ensuring the Health and Safety of our employees and visitors to our sites.

Everything in the demonstration building has been made from recycled materials, sustainable resources or can be recycled.

“We believe that our work places should be considered as safe and secure places of work by all trained employees and that untrained employees and visitors should be protected at all times by our trained staff to ensure the highest safety is afforded to them.

Bekstone are proud to be involved in this exciting project supplying reconstituted walling, roof slates, paving and coping stones.

We monitor, measure and review our agreed and set performance targets so that we might learn from our past experiences and ensure that changes are made for continuous improvement to our procedures.” Rob Rawlings, Operational Director

M-Coat® paving must not be pressure washed to clean nor subjected to de-icing salts or chemical treatments or patio sealants of any kind as these will invalidate the warranty. All concrete products have CE certification and comply with the necessary product characteristics and requirements within the United Kingdom and European Union.

Permeable Block Paving Recent changes to the permitted development rights that allow householders to pave their front garden or hardstanding without planning permission have changed. Planning permission is now required to lay traditional impermeable driveways that allow uncontrolled run-off of rainwater from front gardens onto roads, because this can contribute to flooding and pollution of water-courses. In many cases, it will be possible to control the runoff of rainwater and so conventional block paving will probably be suitable for your project. For more details on ‘Paving of Front Gardens’ and planning permissions, please contact: Department for Communities and Local Government, Eland House, Bressenden Place, London SW1E 5DU Telephone: 020 7944 4400 Website: www.communities.gov.uk

Warning Never use Rock Salt or De-Icing Salts on concrete paving. Salt corrodes and destroys all concrete through a chemical reaction and in addition will exaggerate the natural freeze thaw cycles that erode the surface of concrete.
