Professional Training
from 2022 Season Program
by HVSF
An Educational Program with Professional Expectations
The Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival Conservatory Company is a performance-based training program for committed, early career actors considering joining Actors Equity Association, who have a passion for Shakespeare, and want to develop the skills necessary to create innovative, collaborative theater in extraordinary spaces. It’s an artistic home to train and take risks. Working alongside our nationally recognized acting company on and off stage, the five actors we will invite into the program this season will be offered an unmatched opportunity to enter the profession.

Tent Pole Commissions
In an effort to offer diverse artists more opportunities to reimagine and recreate what is considered classical theater and to help inaugurate our new artistic home, we have launched our Tent Pole Commision Program. Through this program we commission theatermakers, the majority of whom identify as BIPOC to imagine new work inspired by the beauty of our new location. These writers, directors, designers, or creators will be provided the opportunity to cultivate new ideas through flexible developmental, financial, and creative support. HVSF has dedicated resources to the creation and inspiration of these works and supports development through funding artistic collaboration. Each work created will be considered for future mainstage seasons, or applicable visibility, depending on what is created. It is our hope that Tent Pole Commissions will be part of a larger cultural shift in the American Theater, rooted in belonging, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
