“Quantum Levitation” 1 is recently demonstrated by members of research faculty from Tel Aviv University. They presented a 3-inch disk coated with “Superconductor” 2 floats over a magnetic rail and explained that the disk can levitate something 70,000 times its own weigh. If the exterior of the bottom building units are coated with superconductor and the top of the building is coated with solar panels to generate energy to cool down the bottom part of the building or utilize low temperature in winter to keep Superconductor cool, there is possibility that building can levitate and the residents can be protected from disaster such as flood or earthquake. The residential units are stacked upward to provide the maximum living spaces while minimizing site disturbance. The tower is designed so that unit’s facade panels in external corners fits perfectly to its neighboring units.

+02 LOVE , I FOUND YOU ON THESE: THE STRUCTURE OF LOVE
+ BLANK PAGE FAIRY TALES DESIGN COMPETITION 2014 + WINTER 2014
This is a metaphorical love story in the eyes of an architect. As a narrator goes through the stages of finding love, falling in love, and losing love. These stages are compared to architectural structures he sees around the world. In the eyes of an architect, he sees a city as a maze in which he is lost without love. The structure of elevator symbolizes an uplifting spirit and spirit finding his true love. The narrative image of Greenhouse in rain is connected to the image of wonder and feeling of deeply falling in love. The narrative image of Ferris Wheel is connected to the idea of a lover’s separation by distance as one is sitting on the opposite cart of the other. The narrative image of Destroyed Theater is connected to the idea of love being lost. The idea came from Detroit’s Michigan Theater which was grandeur in the past, but currently abandoned and used as a parking lot. The narrative image of Bridge is connected to the idea of an escape and being connected to another world realizing that his love in this world was an illusion. Op art, also known as optical art, metric abstract paintings and other works of art which use optical illusions.
M.C. Escher’s Relativity inspired this metaphorical love story. His painting depicts a world in which the normal laws of gravity do not apply. The architectural structure seems to be the centre of an idyllic community. This narrative project looks for the opportunity to express love in architectural structure.

Innovative way to utilize unused roof area in downtown Toronto Yonge street city blocks The City of Toronto lacks a sense of green, both visually as well as in regards to its environmental initiative. It needs to push itself to become amongst the forward looking cities who views the shift to green in the urban context as a way to reduce carbon footprint. The intention of the Cities Alive competition proposal is to examine the connection between building blocks on youge street and the opportunity to utilize unused urban roof space. While addressing solutions to climate change and sustainability, the project provides an opportunity to design an innovative structure, which will transform urban roof space into a public park and place for residents and visitors to take a break from all the street hustle on youge street.

Whirling Dervishes is part of “The Mevlevi Sema Ceremony” of Turkey, which is proclaimed as amongst the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. The Turkish government granted the Mevlevi order a special permission to perform ritual whirling practices for tourists during two weeks each year. Tourism is a main industry in Cappadocia, Turkey. Cappadocia Cultural Preservation Center creates a long-term strategy where this cultural and religious space generates more revenue, provides cultural preservation opportunity and builds hope for the local community. The design was structured, firstly, around several prototypes, built to investigate spiral origami folding in order to mimic the iconic form of the whirling dancer’s skirt. Also the concept of the origami folding method is applied to the construction method, which allows a building module to be created and assists local people to build the place by themselves using the easy install method.

DOUBLE OVAL BY HENRY MOORE
SITE: WATERFRONT
+ ASC 301 STUDIO + INSTRUCTOR: IAN MACBURNIE
“I have found principles of form and rhythm from the study of natural objects, such as pebbles, rocks, bones, trees, and plants” The Henry Moore Waterfront Museum wishes to be identified with both the water edge and the park edge character of the site, and desires an entrance off the park, while making an identifiable presence to the water edge. The site, waterfront communicates with Henry Moore’s flowing sculpture forms. The project also focuses on an interaction between building programs on different floors and how visitors circulate one from another. The bridge connecting two massing of building adds dynamic element inside. The exterior facade not only controls the amount of sunlight whilst protecting artwork. The shadow created by the façade in the atrium mimics the rhythm of water flowing in and out of the shore.
