PORTFOLIO INDUSTRIAL DESIGN

Yijun He / 2022

Hi, I am

Yijun He I am an industrial design student at Arizona State University who will graduate in 2023. My design interests revolve around being a participant in data collection during the early stages of research. I’m fascinated by observing how people interact with a product to better understand their feelings and identify pain points.

CONTENT

Kooker. 4-week school project

BRIEF A futuristic rick cooker that does everything for you to minimize manual effort in the cooking and post-cooking processes.

01

Research OUTCOME Users complain that the cleaning process is overly heavy and inconvenient due to the redesign of the structure and the addition of more components, and that they must remove and clean the parts one by one before reassembling. When rice is left in the pot too long, it hardens and becomes extremely difficult to remove without soaking.

QUOTOS FROM INTERVIEWEES “…you need to pick it out from the gap if rice falls in… ” “…it will be so much easier if the lid is detachable.” “… the steam collector is rather too small for me to put a finger inside to clean…”

WATER CONTAINERS Control panel

Containers that store cleaning water and used water

HEATING SYSTEM Induction heating on the sides and bottom to heat the pot evenly

Foot-crank camping light 4-week school project

A user-friendly, rechargeable camping light with a footcrank for campers and outdoor adventurers.

Research OUTCOME

USERS NEEDS

Despite the fact that there are several types of rechargeable camp lights on the market, people are still concerned about running out of batteries during their journey, forgetting to change dead batteries before leaving, and having bad weather that affects the solar panels from charging.

• Less lighting sources brough • Less batteries used • Multi-functions • Steady base

QUOTOS FROM INTERVIEWEES “...forget to replaces batteries.” “...you gotta crank it for couple of mins to let it work.” “...get scared… hear any kind of sounds you outside when it is dark… only have small flashlight.”

IDEATION

ROTATABLE HEAD Rotatable head with wide-range high brightness light

POWER SWITCH slide up to adjust brightness

Soft bright lighting for outdoor use

Foot-crank

Battery slot

Instead of cranking with your hands to charge your light, this idea uses your thigh to step on the crank repeatedly to charge your light for a better charging experience without tired shoulders.
