KOREAN Easy Peasy
간 무한한 공머 저너 로!
korean for beginners
Introduction
Learning a foreign language requires a lot of patience and determination. It takes a long time to be able to speak a new language well. How great would it be if we could acquire a different language with just a push of a button? This book is based on an animated movie called ‘Toy Story 3’ by Pixar. In it, Buzz Lightyear accidently changes to Spanish mode. For this book, I imagined that Buzz switched to Korean mode to help Woody court a Korean Barbie. There are also fun activities including colouring pages and a picture puzzle to make the learning fun and exciting.

Hanguel Korean alphabet is called Hangeul in Korean.
The alphabet: Consonants The Korean alphabet has ten basic consonants and nine variations of these. In English, certain pairs of consonants, like p/b, t/d, s/z, and k/g, have a pronunciation that differ mostly in whether they are voiced or voiceless. Korean consonants do not have that same distinction, but rather differ according to whether they are “plain (ㄱ, ㄴ, ㄷ, ㄹ, ㅁ, ㅂ, ㅅ, ㅇ, ㅈ, and ㅎ)”, “aspirated (ㅋ, ㅌ, ㅍ, and ㅊ)”, or “tense (ㄲ, ㄸ, ㅃ, ㅆ, and ㅉ)”. Here are the consonants with their pronunciation.

Hangeul is written: 한 (han) ㅎ(h) + ㅏ(a) + ㄴ(n) 글(geul)ㄱ(g) + ㅡ(eu) + ㄹ(l)
The alphabet: Vowels There are 21 letters used to represent vowels: six basic vowels (ㅏ, ㅓ, ㅗ, ㅜ, ㅡ, ㅣ), nine combinations of those six basic vowels (which originally were all pronounced as diphthongs), and six vowels with an extra short dash representing the initial y [j] sound. Here are then main vowels with their pronunciation.
