Drivers Training Requirements: Do You Have to Enroll in Drivers Training Teen drivers not only have the highest rate of automobile crashes of any demographic, they also have the highest rate of auto fatalities. In order to help decrease this sad statistic and save young lives, most state requires young drivers to complete a Driver’s Ed course. For most states, this is composed of a text-based course that teaches the fundamentals of safe driving along with a set amount of time for behind-the-wheel training. Only a few states don’t have a requirement for teen Driver’s Ed: • Alaska • Arizona • Arkansas • Missouri • Oregon • Tennessee • Washington • Virginia • Wyoming
Every state has different rules and regulations for licensing. While some states only demand that new teen drivers get driver training, some require everyone, even if they are over the age of 18, get sufficiently trained before they take to the road.
Finding State-Approved Drivers Training Courses Before you choose a Driver’s Ed course, it is essential that you choose one that has been approved by your state Motor Vehicle Department. Your license will not be valid otherwise. Unless your training has been issued by a state-approved entity, it won’t help you earn credit towards earning a driver’s license. When you pass the written portion of driver’s training, you will be given a certificate of completion. You will then be able to give this your DMV office and take the next steps towards earning your license.
