Friday 3rd June the club held a YMA workshop at John Curtin’s Rosstemple Herd. Over 30 children from ages 4 to 16 were present. John‘s 15 “trained” calves were introduced as the children arrived. It was some sight to see 15 children parading calves around a makeshift ring in the barn. After each child had done some leading, we gathered them together and with Dermot McCarthy leading a calf, Rachel McNamara gave a detailed and thorough walkthrough of the do’s and don’ts of leading and presenting a calf. Following the instructions from Rachel we again had the children parade and present the calves, assisted by instruction from Dermot, Rachel, Emma McNamara and Owen Laffan.
