The potential of Indian agriculture in the backdrop of emerging opportunities in the present globalised era is making it imperative to give agricultural production and post harvest management a professional outlook. The Indian agricultural strategy needs to focus on a paradigm shift from sustenance based output to a value added marketable output. The agribusiness sector can act as a catalyst in providing the required impetus to make the agricultural produce globally competitive at the same time ensure optimum utilization of the resources involved. Thus, the need for trained manpower to manage the various dimensions of the agriculture sector is becoming explicit and is continuously increasing. Thus, agri business management education needs to be emphasized upon to address the issues concerning both domestic and international markets through professional management approach. The Institute of Agri Business Management has emerged as a centre of higher education, training and research activities in agri business management by equipping the students with the necessary competencies to excel in their related areas. I have the pleasure to state since its inception, the institute has been able to create a mark as a leading sectoral business school with excellent placement record. The students of the batch 2013-14 are on the verge of completion of their two year MBA (AB) degree programme and are prepared to explore their potential. Alumni of the institute are contributing in the most prestigious organisations (public and private both) of the country and serving with high level of dignity. With an idea to create gainful employment for agriculture students and to promote Agripreneurship, we have also started training rural youth of Barmer district of Rajasthan (Cairn Agri Fellows) and 'Agri Clinics and Agri Business Centre' with MANAGE. Batch 2013-14, has graduates from fifteen institutions, representing nine states of India is now ready to serve your esteemed organisation. Batch 2014-15 has graduates from fourteen institutions, representing eight states of India is seeking opportunity for understanding agri business environment through summer internship. About IABM The changing world economic environment and globalisation of economies has necessitated professionalism in important sectors of Indian economy especially in agriculture and allied sectors. Demand for commercialization in agriculture has stimulated the need for competent manpower which has further made the agriculture business management education take up a very crucial place over the years. Institute of Agri Business Management (IABM) was established in the year 2000, with the financial assistance from the World Bank, as a constituent unit of Swami Keshwananad Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner. IABM envisages solution oriented and agro industry need based management education, training, research and policy related activities to give a thrust to the development of agro based industry in particular, and rural development, in general. The institute is accredited by AICTE and ICAR both. IABM offers 2 years Masters, one year Diploma and PhD programme in Agri Business Management. At IABM, the young talent is nurtured according to the changing needs for making the agriculture sector a vehicle for speedy sustainable development of the nation. The institute is recognised and awarded by many national as well as international bodies as an exclusive sectoral business school to train professionally skilled agri business managers for the leading corporate and non corporate organisations of the country.

Swami Keshwanand Rajasthan Agricultural University (SKRAU), Bikaner was established in 1987 to bring about progressive and technological advancements in the area of agricultural development and contribute to the socio-economic development of the farming community of the state. The State has 10 agro-climatic zones out of which 3 are under the jurisdiction of SKRAU. The university is accredited by Indian Council of Agricultural research (ICAR), New Delhi. It is mainly funded by Government of Rajasthan and also receives a major financial support from ICAR for teaching, research and extension education activities. The University is intensifying all its efforts for achieving its goals and objectives. It has three academic institutions namely College of Agriculture, College of Home Science and Institute of Agri-Business Management at Bikaner and 15 affiliated colleges under its jurisdiction. The Directorate of Human Resource Development at Bikaner is involved in faculty and other human resource enhancement and offer certificate courses through distance mode. University is carrying out its research through 2 agricultural research stations and 1 agricultural research sub-station. Latest technological interventions in the field of agriculture and its allied subjects are also disseminated by the university in 6 districts through 7 Krishi Vigyan Kendras. The university is also guiding and aiding extension machinery of the State Department of Agriculture and allied departments for overall development of the state, in particular and the country, in general. The University strives for imparting not only knowledge but also improvement of skills, entrepreneurial ability and attitude in the students. A set of five experiential learning units are in operation viz., High Tech Nursery, Post Harvest Technology and Value Addition of Fruits and Vegetables, Vermi-culture and Vermi-composting, Micropropagation, Mass Production of Bioagents, Development & Designing of Instructional Material and Apparel Designing. Since the establishment of the University, 126 new high yielding varieties of major crops have been developed. Through appropriate extension and seed production along with commensurate technologies, several of these varieties have been adopted by the farmers of the region. The University significantly contributes towards enhancing the seed availability by producing breeder seed and truthfully labelled (TFL) seed. TFL seed is also produced through farmers' participatory approach. The University is also engaged in production of saplings for orchards/ plantations. Institute of Agri Business Management / 05


Courses

Doctor of Philosophy (Agri Business) Programme Role of MBA (AB) has been realized long back and number of institutes started offering such programme. This has created a big demand of qualified manpower in Agri Business education. IABM has started Ph.D. (Agri Business) from the academic session 2011-12 to fill this gap. The course curriculum is designed to sharpen skills of the students in the area of education and consultancy with special reference to agri business. Pedagogy is conceptualised so as to develop critical thinking on the knowledge acquired through the courses during management degree.

MBA (Agri Business) Programme The Master of Business Administration (Agri Business) is a two-year full time residential post-graduate degree programme which grooms young men and women into professional managers for core areas of agribusiness and allied sectors. The programme aims at providing a comprehensive coverage incorporating the foundation, functional and elective courses relevant to management discipline, in general, and agri business management, in particular.

Post Graduate Diploma in Agri Input Management The PGDAIM is a unique collaborative programme depicting Institute Industry interface directed towards the growth of the agri input sector as well as addressing the employment problem related to the agricultural graduates. The one year duration programme with Dhanuka Agritech Ltd. (DAL) assures employment after successful completion of the course to the participants .

Infrastructure IABM provides facilities that make study a pleasure and for this it has a very conducive learning environment. The institute occupies a modern building, which is aesthetically furnished and tastefully maintained.

Lecture Halls Lecture halls have an extremely cordial environment to ensure participative learning. Supported with the latest teaching aids, the lecture halls are designed to avoid uncalled for hindrances and enable the students to concentrate better.

Seminar Hall and Conference Room IABM has a well equipped seminar hall and a conference hall with latest information and communication technology to provide perfect learning environment to the prospective global managers.

Information and Research Centres

 The library of IABM has an exhaustive collection of reference books, text books, journals, research papers, magazines, case studies and audio visual documentations. The library subscribes 28 journals, 19 magazines and 8 news papers. There are 6433 text and reference books in library.  The digital language lab is a combination of technology and communication. State- of-the- art teaching spaces, enterprise level software resources and expert personnel makes the lab a highly effective learning tool.  Subscription to online resources like EBSCO and indiastat.com provides the best and updated research and statistical data to the faculty members and students for various learning assignments.

Hostel accommodation As majority students enrolled in the institute are from different parts of the country, hostel facility is provided for both boys and girls. The recreation facilities and the comfortable environment in the hostel make the accommodation a pleasurable experience. The green and quiet ambience of the premises provides a delightful learning experience to the students.

Academic Structure The institute has structured its academic development by practicing the philosophy of 'learning by doing'. Incorporated mandatorily in the evaluation pattern are the experiential learning assignments, case study deliberations, seminars based on contemporary issues, industrial attachment as summer internships and research projects sponsored by the industry. After completion of first year students are attached to different companies/organisation for summer internship of 45 days and during the fourth semester students undergo a research project under proper guidance of university faculty members. The institute organises national level seminars, guest lectures, management games, simulation activities, brainstorming sessions, role plays etc. for actualising the effective learning among the participants. Training workshops like commodity trading, personal grooming, employability skill enhancement, etc. are organised for all round development of the students. Various clubs like communion and case study facilitate creative discussions and effective communication among the students. Cultural activities like the national level management festival 'ABHIVYAKTI', annual function and sports tournaments give an opportunity to learn the art of planning, organising and implementing various activities for the mutual growth and development.

Projects @ IABM Cairn's Agri Fellow Training Programme Cairn India Ltd. has established its operations for oil exploration in Barmer district of Rajasthan. To take initiative for corporate social responsibility, Cairn India Limited and Ashwattha Advisors Pvt. Ltd. (AAPL), a subsidiary of Technoserve, have put together a 5 year programme for promoting social and economic development in Barmer district. This program is aimed to improve overall economic status of 10000 households with a multiplier effect in the local economy and further improvement in health and education services. AAPL tied up with IABM and designed the course content for the fellow program which are mainly the rural youth and IABM is organising training. First phase of training started from January, 2014.Every year selected trainees will be imparted training for 10 weeks in five slots. Network Project on Market Intelligence Institute of Agri Business Management is selected for Network Project on Market Intelligence by National Centre for Agricultural Economics and Policy Research, Indian Council of Agricultural Research with an objective to provide short term price forecasts to farmers for selected agricultural commodities for effective decision making and to conduct regional case studies on price movements , market infrastructure and farmers' decision making in Rajasthan. This project will help farmers and policy makers by forecasting prices at different crop stages. The institute has identified 5 major crops viz. clusterbean, cumin, chick pea, coriander and pearlmillet for which future price determinations both pre sowing and post-harvest will be published through various web portals and print media. Agri Clinic and Agri Business Centre The Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India, in association with NABARD has launched a unique scheme called AgriClinics and Agri-Business Centres (ACABC) with a view to create gainful self-employment opportunities to unemployed agricultural and allied sector graduates, diploma holders, intermediates in agriculture and biological science graduates with PG in agri-related courses. MANAGE has recognized Institute of Agri Business Management, Bikaner as a Nodal Training Institute (NTI) for conducting these training programmes. The Institute has started the first batch of training programme in the month of Aug., 2014. In this 35 selected trainees are provided training. The trainees aspire to initiate agripreneur ventures in the area of dairy farming, agri input retail, greenhouse management, seed production and marketing etc. The institute will provide handholding facility for one year to the trainees for setting up their ventures successfully. Consultancy Projects Institute undertook a Consultancy Project on ' Dynamics of Guar Seed Production and Marketing in India' for NCDEX. Another consultancy project was undertaken for Ace Commodities Ltd. on 'Guar Seed Production and Marketing-Status of Rajasthan'. A Survey of Tribal Development in Udaipur A Survey on 'An Assessment of Tribal Development in Udaipur' was assigned to IABM by H. E. Governor of Rajasthan on August 22, 2013. The study was undertaken by the staff and students and a report was submitted.

The national level review workshop of two days of Network Project on Market Intelligence was organized by the Institute of Agri Business Management on 24-25 March, 2014. Total 32 participants attended the workshop from all over India. IABM, Bikaner organized two days 'Capacity Building Training Programme on Commodity Futures Market', sponsored by Forward Markets Commission, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Department of Consumer Affairs, New Delhi during September 23 - 24, 2013. National Level Management Fest- Abhivyakti 2013 was organized at IABM campus in which six teams from different parts of the country participated. Annual Function of IABM was organized on February 26, 2014. IABM organized a two days workshop on 'Management Information System Cases & Applications', March 6 7, 2014. Students undertook Industrial Visit to Kota and Udaipur from October 19-24, 2013 and visited Agri Business production units and Management Institutions 24 students of MBA (AB) I year and a student of Ph. D. (AB) participated at the 'Amaethon 2014The Food and Agribusiness Summit' organized by IIM, Ahmedabad during January 11-12, 2014. Students and staff of the institute visited Government School for Deaf and Dumb C h i l d r e n i n B i k a n e r w h e r e d i ff e r e n t competitions for children were organized and gifts sponsored by staff and students of IABM were distributed. A blood donation camp was organized at IABM, Bikaner on December 5, 2013.

Accomplishments 

Indian Oil Educational Scholarship 2013 @ 1 36,000/year was awarded to IABM students, namely Ankur Anand, Alkesh Kumar Harode and Badri Narayan Hota pursuing MBA (AB). Chandrmouli Singh and Neeraj Ranjan Gupta won the 1st prize in the case study competition; Rohit Jain won second prize for debate; Chandramouli Singh for Extempore competition; Richard and Sonalee Chauhan for creative writing competition in Abhivyakti 2014. Leena Patel, student of MBA (AB), 2012-14 secured All India Third rank at the National Knowledge Contest for Engineering and Management Students held on February 9, 2014 at Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh) organized by The HR Club, Mumbai. Team of Anwarudheen M and Rohit Jain won the business quiz and team of Amit Kundan, Anwarudheen M and Rohit Jain got the second prize in National Level Business Plan competition in Abhivyakti 2014. Nisha Devra and Suresh Sharma won first and third prizes for solo dance competition, respectively; Jawed Khan for song; Suresh and Ankur for fashion show, Swati Verma & Bahadur Singh Gochar for face painting and Dushyant Kumar Mehar for Photography in Abhivyakti 2014. Team of Chandrmouli Singh, Swati Verma & Bahadur Singh Gochar won Ad Mad Show and Ajay and team won skit competition in Abhivyakti 2014. Surjeet Singh Dhaka and Suresh Sharma were selected as the finalists in the event 'Viewpoint-A challenge to stakeholder' at Amaethon organized by IIM, Ahmedabad on January 12, 2014. Dr. Aditi Mathur, Assistant Professor, Institute of Agri Business Management (IABM) has been nominated by the Vice-Chancellor, SKRAU as Members of the Board of Management, SKRAU, Bikaner for a period of one year. Dr. Madhu Sharma, Professor appointed as Director, Directorate of Prioritization Monitoring &Evaluation. Dr. Rajesh Sharma, Director, IABM, Bikaner attended Workshop on 'Advanced Agribusiness Management for Executives and Managers of Small and Medium Enterprises' at Bangkok. Faculty members of IABM attended more than 10 national and international level Faculty Development Programmes, conferences and seminars during the year. Seven research papers were published by the students and staff of IABM in reputed journals.
