NEW WRITING WORKSHOP Here at the Court we are not just interested in what is happening tomorrow, we are looking at next year, the year after and well into the next decade. With that in mind we have set up a programme to support new theatre writing called Stage Write. Writers can submit their work to us, whether finished pieces or just a couple of scenes. These pieces will then be read by experienced professionals and some may be chosen for a reading in front of an audience at one of our regular Stage Write nights, or workshopped with a cast and director. They can come from new or established writers, we just want to see the best new work. Submissions are invited on a rolling basis, with no deadlines and no fees. All types of work will be considered, comedy or drama, as long as they have been written for the stage and are submitted in a stage script format. If you have any questions or would like to submit a script, then please e-mail stagewrite@royalcourtliverpool.com. If you would like to be among the first to see these new pieces then join us for one of our showcases.

Company Biographies Laura Lees
work.
Writer
Masquerade is no exception. It is both a new play by a new writer. Laura Lees has written a moving piece of theatre about a time that must never be forgotten, especially now when prejudice and bigotry seem to be on the rise.
I graduated from Liverpool Hope Univeristy in 2006 with a BA (Hons) in Creative & Performing Arts. After teaching for a short while and realising that it wasn’t what i wanted to do, I began writing short stories. I have worked in Liverpool theatres for the past ten years and have always enjoyed plays that reflect on the issues that we see and experience in our everyday lives. Masquerade is my first full-length play to be produced and I am thrilled to have it on at the Royal Court Studio. My inspiration to write the play began when I was given an insight into my Uncle Mark’s colourful life in the Eighties and I would like to dedicate the run to him.
Paul Goetzee Director
I’ve been around theatre in Liverpool since 1982 when I and three other writers started Liverpool Lunchtime Theatre- specifically to produce new plays and develop new writing talent in the city. I divided my time in the past between nurturing others and writing myself for touring theatre companies like Perspectives and Red Ladder, as well as a stint as resident writer at the Soho Theatre in London. I even had a play performed at the National in 1999. More recently, I have turned my hand to film writing and directing but have always been a keen stage director, largely of new
