“It is only with heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.”

— Le Petit Prince

In the modern city, it's so busy that people living in the city feel numb. They are unable to calm down and talk to me. Therefore, I create an urban hot spring hotel in Zhongshan District. Zhongshan District, where is located in the city center of Taipei. There has a large population, a fast pace but not a tight one. This site and the green belts around the city will form the rhythm of urban blank space here. Leaving some white space in the crowded city. This urban hot spring hotel is a non-daily daily space. I create spaces that we cannot find in the city. Trying to make people temporarily isolated from the world.

People soaking in the hot springs, looking at the sea without boundaries, as if you are swimming in the ocean.

The end of the bamboo forest is the open-air hot spring. The smoke is filled with the strong smell of sulfur in the air. I take off my clothes and step on them. The warm water envelops my body.

7

Experience in the process of going to a hot spring in JAPAN

The process of Japanese people going up the mountain to soaking in the wild always takes a long journey. Relatively, the process of soaking in the city is very short. Therefore, I analyze the changes in senses, spatial scale, action, and focus of soaking in the wild. Trying to apply the space experience process in design. Just like what the Japanese say, 野の花でおもてなし, the flowers are like blooming in the wild. Bringing nature into the urban space and let people quickly transform their minds in the city.

Massing This hot spring hotel is presented in the city with dynamic balance. People in the city see it just like a vase and flowers, the organic and the inorganic objects inlaid with each other. The bottom mass is isolated from the surrounding environment like a castle. The upper mass is like a mountain forest, smoky, which makes people feel isolated from the world. The spatial composition of the architecture the synchronization of the two materials. I interlaced and stacked the walls in two directions: the vertical and diagonal directions at 45 degrees. Try to create many small spaces just like secret bases on the hot spring road in the mountains.

Through the interweaving of two-dimensional walls, bamboo forests, floors ,and stairs, people walking in the space is like walking among the bamboo forests in the mountain. Sometimes they feel open, sometimes they feel closed. Sometimes dark, and sometimes bright.

Due to the density of leaves on the facade, different degrees of privacy can be felt in each space. As time changes, light and shadow will also produce shadows in different positions, corresponding to space. Sunlight will also bring shadows in different positions, corresponding to different space programs according to the time and length of use.

Spaces of design college that are too public or too private. Both will cause the students to have no sense of belonging and not be able to freely generate a lot of inspiration in the space. In this design, I try to use the sense of domain in a rational shared space to help creators find a sense of belonging when designing. Therefore, I focus on how to create a sense of domain and how to make architecture students feel that they have not been violated but still interact with other students in this design. The domain has different levels and the strength of the domain at different levels will bring us different feelings. Therefore, I will discuss the different levels of domain sense in different spaces of this project and then group the spaces with similar results together.

DEPARTMENT

15

I create three different elevations to distinguish three different groups divide into each area. The upper mass, the main design studio for the architectural department is structure by a truss system. At the bottom of Ching-Sheng Road, the two floors library is located to watch the sunset. The grille is able to block the sun but still allows people inside to see the sunset. In addition, offices and meeting rooms are with relatively closed facade treatment methods. The spatial composition of the internal space discusses the interaction between different ethnic groups. Firstly, the exhibition space is open to the semi-outdoor platform on the second floor. The exhibition is not only seen when it is opened. People can still look down from the platform on the first and second floor to the internal exhibition if space is not opened on the weekend. High windows let passersby look down without disturbing the people in the workshop in the basement. Then the semi-outdoor platform on the fifth floor is the interface and communication between the public domain downstairs for the whole school and the architecture department upstairs. People can come here through the spiral staircase of the library to read. Architectural department students can also come down to this space to take classes or Interact with classmates from other departments. Also, people in the office can relax here. Finally, the domain of the architectural department is the combining with two large staircases used for the design studio and the lecture hall, in the space, students are able to communicate with each other easily.

Senko Hanabi is instant eternal to me. The existence of fire can be said to be eternal compared to the short lives of people. And the eternal fire uses the extremely short time of the Japanese incense fireworks to ignite to us and then disappear immediately. Although it is extremely short, still leaves eternal memories in people's hearts.

I create a fossil museum next to Elephant Trunk Rock on the North Coast of Taiwan. During the daytime, the museum does not turn on the lights. All the exhibition spaces are dark. Only the sunshine reflection from the top or penetrates from gaps. With the atmosphere of the space that makes people feel nervous and want to explore, people can directly touch the texture and fossils of the cliff while holding on to the wall. The fossils in the space are exhibited in various forms. Some are displayed on the shelf, some have not been mined mosaic displayed in the cliffs, some are suspended above the space because the space between the two spaces is not completely blocked by the wall. The light passing through the suspended fossil and reflects the shadow of the animal in space. At the bottom of the building, there is a large stair platform. Because of the changes in the tide, the platform is sometimes exposed and sometimes sunk in the sea. Fossil shells are left on the platform due to the beating of the waves. The shells are spread out on the platform. The exhibition can also be taken home. People walking down the large stair platform are able to reach the Elephant Trunk Rock. Just like walking on the elephant's trunk and touching it up close instead of just taking pictures with the elephant in a far place. Sitting on the elephant’s trunk also makes people feel surrounded by the sea. It's like being out of reality and talking to myself on a small island on the sea alone.

People in the museum all day are like a journey, neverland of Peter Pan. During the daytime, there are no lights on in every space but only sunlight light. The uneven surface of the cliff wall makes sunlight enters from the different gap by different angles in a different time. Although in the same exhibition space, people will see different fossils at different times because of sunlight. Each fossil in the museum seems to only appear for a short time in one day. Although the overall museum is small, it allows people to stay in it all day. As if there are constantly new spaces to explore.

For me, Beitou is like an urban oasis in Taipei. I feel full of life when I walk in this district. In particular, the greenery in the Heart Military Village, which is beside the site is even more diverse and rich. In this project, I try to find out how the greenery appears in this military village, even people will feel the greenery under what circumstances, actions and moods. Trying to extend the situation and the feelings of the military village into my design.

Bamboo can block people on the first floor from seeing the high wall between the building and the village. Moreover, people passing by on the road can see the sunlight through the bamboo and enter the building from the two squares. The public space is concentrated in the middle of the courtyard as much as possible. People gather in the courtyard and activities take place in these spaces. Living space revolves around public spaces so that people can see different greenery no matter where in the building.

The definition of alive and dead in farewell space nowadays is too direct. People are gathered together to pay farewell to worship according to the standardized etiquette and leave together after the ceremony. People are unable to have their own space to talk to the deceased. When bidding farewell, people kneel down to a stone or the name on a tower. The distance is very close, but it makes people feel the barrier that very hard to close. Therefore, I create a cemetery use the lotus flower and water to blur boundaries between the alive people's space and the dead people's space just like an ink painting. By contacting with lotus flowers which symbol of dead people, looking for a lotus, walking into the lotus pond, admiring it, washing it, holding it to experience some memories before, and finally returning to nature, as if the dead are still with us, spending a whole day company with us.

And it is a single particle without disturbing each other at a micro distance.

There are two lotus ponds in the cemetery. The first lotus pond is full of lotus. It's at the beginning of the path. The family poured the ashes of the deceased into the lotus pond. Lotus is a symbol of the dead for the family. Slowly descended around the lotus pond. People stayed for a time at the place that the lotus pond was at the same height as the human heart. Chose a lotus flower and carefully picked it up. Going down the stairs towards the center of the lotus pond to enter the underground architecture. To blur the alive people space and the dead people space. Every space has a prescribed interaction with water and lotus. The rituals in each space represent a dialogue between the alive people and the dead people. By contacting with lotus flowers which symbol of dead people. People admiring it, washing it, holding it to experience some memories before. Finally, they enter spaces that only accommodate one person. The window of each space corresponds to a corner of the park. Across the water, the scene of the family playing in the park is blurred, as if they have seen the memories of themselves that with their love. Lotus flowers that other people put on above are seen in these spaces with the death name. People stay in these spaces to memory the past with the deceased. In the end, people walked up and put the lotus in the pond which is only clear water in. Returned to nature, said goodbye to the family, ended the day of company.

“Because of there are many different sense in people's body. We will feel confuse when we use different sense to feel.”

Heterotopia, which is between the real world and Utopia. It is an interface to helps people see their own Utopia. It is like a mirror that helps us see our virtual self in the mirror. Utopia is a state that can never be reached. However, Heterotopia is real existence. That is a thing that can be realized without fantasy. The emergence of Heterotopia and the connection between oneself and the state of the person are connected to each other. If there have a beautiful heart but lack that connection. Or if there have that beautiful moment or state but the heart is not sharp or warm enough. Both won't be able to see the Heterotopia. If this world really has such a Heterotopia waiting for you, what do you hope he will be?

People can constantly switch between different senses which different from usual to re-experience the space and oneself in different ways.

In smell, three kilns connect all spaces. The bread fragrance permeates all spaces. In the vision, there are only fire light and natural light in this architecture. People will have a different feeling at a different time in spaces by the different ways that natural light comes in. In the hearing, I introduce snow in. The snow melts when it touches the temperature of the kiln. Water droplets on the metal wall make a sound. But natural light still shines in. Just like sunny rain. In touch, the ashes from the kiln are falling. Through the light, it seems like snowflakes are falling. However, to reach out to touch it is warm.
