In the modern city, it's so busy that people living in the city feel numb. They are unable to calm down and talk to myself. Therefore, I create a urban hot spring hotel in Zhongshan District. Zhongshan District, where has large population, fast pace but not tight pace located in the city center of Taipei. The site and green belts around the city will form the rhythm of urban blank space here. To leave some white space in the crowded city. In this urban hot spring hotel, there are many spaces that did not exist in the city. It is a non-daily daily space, which can temporarily isolate people from the world. In order to make people focus on perception in a complex environment, I found three artists to discuss.

People soaking in the hot springs, looking at the sea without boundaries, as if you are swimming in the ocean.

The end of the bamboo forest is the open-air hot spring. The smoke is filled with the strong smell of sulfur in the air. I take off my clothes and step on it. The warm water envelops my body.

Experience in the process of going to a hot spring in JAPAN

The process of Japanese people going up the mountain to soaking in the wild always take a long journey. However, the process of soaking in the city is compressed to very small. So I analyze the changes in senses, spatial scale, action, and focus. Trying to apply the space experience process in architecture. Just like what the Japanese say, 野の花でおもてな し, the flowers are like blooming in the wild. Bringing nature into the urban space and let people quickly transform their mind in the city.

The exterior of architecture that create the urban hot springs hotel, is as dynamic balance as ikebana. What people in the city see are like vases and flowers, inlaid with organic matter and inorganic matter. The bottom is isolated from the surroundings like a castle. The above is like a forest of mountains, smoky and makes people feel isolated.

The A column group extends from the roof to the lobby. The restaurant and part of the solitary space are covered by glass or matte glass, just like smoke-filled in the bamboo forest. The B column group extends from the roof to the restaurant. The spacing of columns are wide, with paths and stairs interspersed inside.

The upper and lower two volumes are inlaid with each other by the two column groups in the space.

The

spatial composition of the architecture corresponds to the theory of second artist Arc ZERO, the synchronization of the two materials. I interlaced and stacked the walls in two directions, the vertical direction and the diagonal direction at 45 degrees. Try to create many small space just like secret bases on the process of the hot spring road in the mountains.

The upper and lower two materials with great contrast correspond to the city. I used two different ways to present dynamic windows. Just like Arc ZERO, the dynamic fog is used to create another world in the same space.

In order to create a seemingly unbalanced architecture. The structure of the volume is composed of four objects. (a) First support with a few large columns (b) Use trusses to support the upper volume (c) Add bamboo to the outer layer of the truss to create the feeling a bamboo forest (D) The cantilever beams inside supported by the column group make people feel that they are in the bamboo forest.

The facade in each direction applies different natural phenomena according to the needs of the space program. The density of the leaves can create different privacy. The shadows of sunlight in different positions at different times also correspond to spatial functions.

Facing the Zhongshan North Road in front of the base, the main road in Taipei City. The main entrance of the hot spring hotel is set at the back of the building. Enter from the large square at the back. There are two roads to the rear entrance. In the south, the main entrance is connected to the tea house on the site, suggesting people on the road.

To the north, the soaking space of the accommodation room extends outwards. They are consistent with the bamboo forest in the upper volume. To attract people to the alley. By the process of walking into the alley from the very fast Zhongshan North Road. It makes people feel the decline in speed and the precipitation of the soul.

Due to the density of leaves on the facade, different degrees of privacy can be felt in each space. As time changes, light and shadow will also produce shadows in different positions, corresponding to the space. Sunlight will also bring shadows in different positions, corresponding to different space programs according to the time and length of use.

Through the interweaving of two-dimensional walls, bamboo forests, floors and stairs, people walking in the space is like walking among the bamboo forests in the mountain. Sometimes they feel open, sometimes they feel closed. Sometimes dark, and sometimes bright.

Because of the interweaving of two-dimensional walls and bamboo forests. The solitary spaces and soaking spaces are like the brush marks of zen garden. Each group or individual are able to feel each other’s existence without disturbing. It is like secret bases in the bamboo forests in the mountain.
