CHAPTER1

1AndSolomonthesonofDavidwasstrengthenedinhis kingdom,andtheLORDhisGodwaswithhim,and magnifiedhimexceedingly.

2ThenSolomonspakeuntoallIsrael,tothecaptainsof thousandsandofhundreds,andtothejudges,andtoevery governorinallIsrael,thechiefofthefathers

3SoSolomon,andallthecongregationwithhim,wentto thehighplacethatwasatGibeon;fortherewasthe tabernacleofthecongregationofGod,whichMosesthe servantoftheLORDhadmadeinthewilderness

4ButthearkofGodhadDavidbroughtupfrom KirjathjearimtotheplacewhichDavidhadpreparedforit: forhehadpitchedatentforitatJerusalem

5Moreoverthebrasenaltar,thatBezaleelthesonofUri, thesonofHur,hadmade,heputbeforethetabernacleof theLORD:andSolomonandthecongregationsoughtunto it.

6AndSolomonwentupthithertothebrasenaltarbefore theLORD,whichwasatthetabernacleofthecongregation, andofferedathousandburntofferingsuponit.

7InthatnightdidGodappearuntoSolomon,andsaidunto him,AskwhatIshallgivethee

8AndSolomonsaiduntoGod,Thouhastshewedgreat mercyuntoDavidmyfather,andhastmademetoreignin hisstead

9Now,OLORDGod,letthypromiseuntoDavidmy fatherbeestablished:forthouhastmademekingovera peoplelikethedustoftheearthinmultitude

10Givemenowwisdomandknowledge,thatImaygoout andcomeinbeforethispeople:forwhocanjudgethisthy people,thatissogreat?

11AndGodsaidtoSolomon,Becausethiswasinthine heart,andthouhastnotaskedriches,wealth,orhonour, northelifeofthineenemies,neitheryethastaskedlong life;buthastaskedwisdomandknowledgeforthyself,that thoumayestjudgemypeople,overwhomIhavemadethee king:

12Wisdomandknowledgeisgranteduntothee;andIwill givetheeriches,andwealth,andhonour,suchasnoneof thekingshavehadthathavebeenbeforethee,neithershall thereanyaftertheehavethelike

13ThenSolomoncamefromhisjourneytothehighplace thatwasatGibeontoJerusalem,frombeforethetabernacle ofthecongregation,andreignedoverIsrael

14AndSolomongatheredchariotsandhorsemen:andhe hadathousandandfourhundredchariots,andtwelve thousandhorsemen,whichheplacedinthechariotcities, andwiththekingatJerusalem

15AndthekingmadesilverandgoldatJerusalemas plenteousasstones,andcedartreesmadeheasthe sycomoretreesthatareinthevaleforabundance

16AndSolomonhadhorsesbroughtoutofEgypt,and linenyarn:theking'smerchantsreceivedthelinenyarnata price

17Andtheyfetchedup,andbroughtforthoutofEgypta chariotforsixhundredshekelsofsilver,andanhorsefor anhundredandfifty:andsobroughttheyouthorsesforall

thekingsoftheHittites,andforthekingsofSyria,bytheir means

CHAPTER2

1AndSolomondeterminedtobuildanhouseforthename oftheLORD,andanhouseforhiskingdom

2AndSolomontoldoutthreescoreandtenthousandmen tobearburdens,andfourscorethousandtohewinthe mountain,andthreethousandandsixhundredtooversee them

3AndSolomonsenttoHuramthekingofTyre,saying,As thoudidstdealwithDavidmyfather,anddidstsendhim cedarstobuildhimanhousetodwelltherein,evensodeal withme.

4Behold,IbuildanhousetothenameoftheLORDmy God,todedicateittohim,andtoburnbeforehimsweet incense,andforthecontinualshewbread,andfortheburnt offeringsmorningandevening,onthesabbaths,andonthe newmoons,andonthesolemnfeastsoftheLORDour God.ThisisanordinanceforevertoIsrael.

5AndthehousewhichIbuildisgreat:forgreatisourGod aboveallgods.

6Butwhoisabletobuildhimanhouse,seeingtheheaven andheavenofheavenscannotcontainhim?whoamIthen, thatIshouldbuildhimanhouse,saveonlytoburn sacrificebeforehim?

7Sendmenowthereforeamancunningtoworkingold, andinsilver,andinbrass,andiniron,andinpurple,and crimson,andblue,andthatcanskilltogravewiththe cunningmenthatarewithmeinJudahandinJerusalem, whomDavidmyfatherdidprovide.

8Sendmealsocedartrees,firtrees,andalgumtrees,out ofLebanon:forIknowthatthyservantscanskilltocut timberinLebanon;and,behold,myservantsshallbewith thyservants,

9Eventopreparemetimberinabundance:forthehouse whichIamabouttobuildshallbewonderfulgreat.

10And,behold,Iwillgivetothyservants,thehewersthat cuttimber,twentythousandmeasuresofbeatenwheat,and twentythousandmeasuresofbarley,andtwentythousand bathsofwine,andtwentythousandbathsofoil

11ThenHuramthekingofTyreansweredinwriting, whichhesenttoSolomon,BecausetheLORDhathloved hispeople,hehathmadetheekingoverthem

12Huramsaidmoreover,BlessedbetheLORDGodof Israel,thatmadeheavenandearth,whohathgivento Davidthekingawiseson,enduedwithprudenceand understanding,thatmightbuildanhousefortheLORD, andanhouseforhiskingdom.

13AndnowIhavesentacunningman,enduedwith understanding,ofHurammyfather's,

14ThesonofawomanofthedaughtersofDan,andhis fatherwasamanofTyre,skilfultoworkingold,andin silver,inbrass,iniron,instone,andintimber,inpurple,in blue,andinfinelinen,andincrimson;alsotograveany mannerofgraving,andtofindouteverydevicewhich shallbeputtohim,withthycunningmen,andwiththe cunningmenofmylordDavidthyfather.

15Nowthereforethewheat,andthebarley,theoil,andthe wine,whichmylordhathspokenof,lethimsenduntohis servants:

16AndwewillcutwoodoutofLebanon,asmuchasthou shaltneed:andwewillbringittotheeinfloatsbyseato Joppa;andthoushaltcarryituptoJerusalem

17AndSolomonnumberedallthestrangersthatwerein thelandofIsrael,afterthenumberingwherewithDavidhis fatherhadnumberedthem;andtheywerefoundan hundredandfiftythousandandthreethousandandsix hundred.

18Andhesetthreescoreandtenthousandofthemtobe bearersofburdens,andfourscorethousandtobehewersin themountain,andthreethousandandsixhundred overseerstosetthepeopleawork

CHAPTER3

1ThenSolomonbegantobuildthehouseoftheLORDat JerusaleminmountMoriah,wheretheLORDappeared untoDavidhisfather,intheplacethatDavidhadprepared inthethreshingfloorofOrnantheJebusite

2Andhebegantobuildintheseconddayofthesecond month,inthefourthyearofhisreign

3NowthesearethethingswhereinSolomonwas instructedforthebuildingofthehouseofGod.Thelength bycubitsafterthefirstmeasurewasthreescorecubits,and thebreadthtwentycubits

4Andtheporchthatwasinthefrontofthehouse,the lengthofitwasaccordingtothebreadthofthehouse, twentycubits,andtheheightwasanhundredandtwenty: andheoverlaiditwithinwithpuregold.

5Andthegreaterhousehecieledwithfirtree,whichhe overlaidwithfinegold,andsetthereonpalmtreesand chains.

6Andhegarnishedthehousewithpreciousstonesfor beauty:andthegoldwasgoldofParvaim

7Heoverlaidalsothehouse,thebeams,theposts,andthe wallsthereof,andthedoorsthereof,withgold;andgraved cherubimsonthewalls

8Andhemadethemostholyhouse,thelengthwhereof wasaccordingtothebreadthofthehouse,twentycubits, andthebreadththereoftwentycubits:andheoverlaidit withfinegold,amountingtosixhundredtalents.

9Andtheweightofthenailswasfiftyshekelsofgold Andheoverlaidtheupperchamberswithgold.

10Andinthemostholyhousehemadetwocherubimsof imagework,andoverlaidthemwithgold

11Andthewingsofthecherubimsweretwentycubitslong: onewingoftheonecherubwasfivecubits,reachingtothe wallofthehouse:andtheotherwingwaslikewisefive cubits,reachingtothewingoftheothercherub.

12Andonewingoftheothercherubwasfivecubits, reachingtothewallofthehouse:andtheotherwingwas fivecubitsalso,joiningtothewingoftheothercherub.

13Thewingsofthesecherubimsspreadthemselvesforth twentycubits:andtheystoodontheirfeet,andtheirfaces wereinward.

14Andhemadethevailofblue,andpurple,andcrimson, andfinelinen,andwroughtcherubimsthereon

15Alsohemadebeforethehousetwopillarsofthirtyand fivecubitshigh,andthechapiterthatwasonthetopof eachofthemwasfivecubits

16Andhemadechains,asintheoracle,andputthemon theheadsofthepillars;andmadeanhundred pomegranates,andputthemonthechains

17Andherearedupthepillarsbeforethetemple,oneon therighthand,andtheotherontheleft;andcalledthe nameofthatontherighthandJachin,andthenameofthat ontheleftBoaz

CHAPTER4

1Moreoverhemadeanaltarofbrass,twentycubitsthe lengththereof,andtwentycubitsthebreadththereof,and tencubitstheheightthereof 2Alsohemadeamoltenseaoftencubitsfrombrimto brim,roundincompass,andfivecubitstheheightthereof; andalineofthirtycubitsdidcompassitroundabout 3Andunderitwasthesimilitudeofoxen,whichdid compassitroundabout:teninacubit,compassingthesea roundaboutTworowsofoxenwerecast,whenitwascast 4Itstoodupontwelveoxen,threelookingtowardthenorth, andthreelookingtowardthewest,andthreelooking towardthesouth,andthreelookingtowardtheeast:and theseawassetaboveuponthem,andalltheirhinderparts wereinward

5Andthethicknessofitwasanhandbreadth,andthebrim ofitliketheworkofthebrimofacup,withflowersof lilies;anditreceivedandheldthreethousandbaths

6Hemadealsotenlavers,andputfiveontherighthand, andfiveontheleft,towashinthem:suchthingsasthey offeredfortheburntofferingtheywashedinthem;butthe seawasfortheprieststowashin

7Andhemadetencandlesticksofgoldaccordingtotheir form,andsettheminthetemple,fiveontherighthand, andfiveontheleft

8Hemadealsotentables,andplacedtheminthetemple, fiveontherightside,andfiveontheleftAndhemadean hundredbasonsofgold

9Furthermorehemadethecourtofthepriests,andthe greatcourt,anddoorsforthecourt,andoverlaidthedoors ofthemwithbrass

10Andhesettheseaontherightsideoftheeastend,over againstthesouth

11AndHurammadethepots,andtheshovels,andthe basons.AndHuramfinishedtheworkthathewastomake forkingSolomonforthehouseofGod;

12Towit,thetwopillars,andthepommels,andthe chapiterswhichwereonthetopofthetwopillars,andthe twowreathstocoverthetwopommelsofthechapiters whichwereonthetopofthepillars;

13Andfourhundredpomegranatesonthetwowreaths; tworowsofpomegranatesoneachwreath,tocoverthetwo pommelsofthechapiterswhichwereuponthepillars.

14Hemadealsobases,andlaversmadeheuponthebases;

15Onesea,andtwelveoxenunderit

16Thepotsalso,andtheshovels,andthefleshhooks,and alltheirinstruments,didHuramhisfathermaketoking SolomonforthehouseoftheLORDofbrightbrass

17IntheplainofJordandidthekingcastthem,intheclay groundbetweenSuccothandZeredathah

18ThusSolomonmadeallthesevesselsingreat abundance:fortheweightofthebrasscouldnotbefound out

19AndSolomonmadeallthevesselsthatwereforthe houseofGod,thegoldenaltaralso,andthetableswhereon theshewbreadwasset;

20Moreoverthecandlestickswiththeirlamps,thatthey shouldburnafterthemannerbeforetheoracle,ofpuregold;

21Andtheflowers,andthelamps,andthetongs,madehe ofgold,andthatperfectgold;

22Andthesnuffers,andthebasons,andthespoons,and thecensers,ofpuregold:andtheentryofthehouse,the innerdoorsthereofforthemostholyplace,andthedoors ofthehouseofthetemple,wereofgold.

CHAPTER5

1ThusalltheworkthatSolomonmadeforthehouseofthe LORDwasfinished:andSolomonbroughtinallthethings thatDavidhisfatherhaddedicated;andthesilver,andthe gold,andalltheinstruments,putheamongthetreasuresof thehouseofGod

2ThenSolomonassembledtheeldersofIsrael,andallthe headsofthetribes,thechiefofthefathersofthechildren ofIsrael,untoJerusalem,tobringupthearkofthe covenantoftheLORDoutofthecityofDavid,whichis Zion

3WhereforeallthemenofIsraelassembledthemselves untothekinginthefeastwhichwasintheseventhmonth.

4AndalltheeldersofIsraelcame;andtheLevitestookup theark

5Andtheybroughtuptheark,andthetabernacleofthe congregation,andalltheholyvesselsthatwereinthe tabernacle,thesedidthepriestsandtheLevitesbringup 6AlsokingSolomon,andallthecongregationofIsrael thatwereassembleduntohimbeforetheark,sacrificed sheepandoxen,whichcouldnotbetoldnornumberedfor multitude.

7Andthepriestsbroughtinthearkofthecovenantofthe LORDuntohisplace,totheoracleofthehouse,intothe mostholyplace,evenunderthewingsofthecherubims:

8Forthecherubimsspreadforththeirwingsovertheplace oftheark,andthecherubimscoveredthearkandthe stavesthereofabove.

9Andtheydrewoutthestavesoftheark,thattheendsof thestaveswereseenfromthearkbeforetheoracle;but theywerenotseenwithout.Andthereitisuntothisday.

10Therewasnothinginthearksavethetwotableswhich MosesputthereinatHoreb,whentheLORDmadea covenantwiththechildrenofIsrael,whentheycameoutof Egypt

11Anditcametopass,whenthepriestswerecomeoutof theholyplace:(foralltheprieststhatwerepresentwere sanctified,anddidnotthenwaitbycourse:

12AlsotheLeviteswhichwerethesingers,allofthemof Asaph,ofHeman,ofJeduthun,withtheirsonsandtheir brethren,beingarrayedinwhitelinen,havingcymbalsand psalteriesandharps,stoodattheeastendofthealtar,and withthemanhundredandtwentypriestssoundingwith trumpets:)

13Itcameeventopass,asthetrumpetersandsingerswere asone,tomakeonesoundtobeheardinpraisingand thankingtheLORD;andwhentheylifteduptheirvoice withthetrumpetsandcymbalsandinstrumentsofmusick, andpraisedtheLORD,saying,Forheisgood;forhis mercyendurethforever:thatthenthehousewasfilledwith acloud,eventhehouseoftheLORD;

14Sothatthepriestscouldnotstandtoministerbyreason ofthecloud:forthegloryoftheLORDhadfilledthe houseofGod

CHAPTER6

1ThensaidSolomon,TheLORDhathsaidthathewould dwellinthethickdarkness.

2ButIhavebuiltanhouseofhabitationforthee,anda placeforthydwellingforever

3Andthekingturnedhisface,andblessedthewhole congregationofIsrael:andallthecongregationofIsrael stood

4Andhesaid,BlessedbetheLORDGodofIsrael,who hathwithhishandsfulfilledthatwhichhespakewithhis mouthtomyfatherDavid,saying,

5SincethedaythatIbroughtforthmypeopleoutofthe landofEgyptIchosenocityamongallthetribesofIsrael tobuildanhousein,thatmynamemightbethere;neither choseIanymantobearulerovermypeopleIsrael:

6ButIhavechosenJerusalem,thatmynamemightbe there;andhavechosenDavidtobeovermypeopleIsrael

7NowitwasintheheartofDavidmyfathertobuildan houseforthenameoftheLORDGodofIsrael

8ButtheLORDsaidtoDavidmyfather,Forasmuchasit wasinthinehearttobuildanhouseformyname,thou didstwellinthatitwasinthineheart:

9Notwithstandingthoushaltnotbuildthehouse;butthy sonwhichshallcomeforthoutofthyloins,heshallbuild thehouseformyname

10TheLORDthereforehathperformedhiswordthathe hathspoken:forIamrisenupintheroomofDavidmy father,andamsetonthethroneofIsrael,astheLORD promised,andhavebuiltthehouseforthenameofthe LORDGodofIsrael.

11AndinithaveIputtheark,whereinisthecovenantof theLORD,thathemadewiththechildrenofIsrael

12AndhestoodbeforethealtaroftheLORDinthe presenceofallthecongregationofIsrael,andspreadforth hishands:

13ForSolomonhadmadeabrasenscaffold,offivecubits long,andfivecubitsbroad,andthreecubitshigh,andhad setitinthemidstofthecourt:anduponithestood,and kneeleddownuponhiskneesbeforeallthecongregationof Israel,andspreadforthhishandstowardheaven, 14Andsaid,OLORDGodofIsrael,thereisnoGodlike theeintheheaven,norintheearth;whichkeepest covenant,andshewestmercyuntothyservants,thatwalk beforetheewithalltheirhearts:

15ThouwhichhastkeptwiththyservantDavidmyfather thatwhichthouhastpromisedhim;andspakestwiththy mouth,andhastfulfilleditwiththinehand,asitisthisday.

16Nowtherefore,OLORDGodofIsrael,keepwiththy servantDavidmyfatherthatwhichthouhastpromisedhim, saying,Thereshallnotfailtheeamaninmysighttosit uponthethroneofIsrael;yetsothatthychildrentakeheed totheirwaytowalkinmylaw,asthouhastwalkedbefore me.

17Nowthen,OLORDGodofIsrael,letthywordbe verified,whichthouhastspokenuntothyservantDavid 18ButwillGodinverydeeddwellwithmenontheearth? behold,heavenandtheheavenofheavenscannotcontain thee;howmuchlessthishousewhichIhavebuilt!

19Haverespectthereforetotheprayerofthyservant,and tohissupplication,OLORDmyGod,tohearkenuntothe cryandtheprayerwhichthyservantprayethbeforethee:

20Thatthineeyesmaybeopenuponthishousedayand night,upontheplacewhereofthouhastsaidthatthou wouldestputthynamethere;tohearkenuntotheprayer whichthyservantprayethtowardthisplace

21Hearkenthereforeuntothesupplicationsofthyservant, andofthypeopleIsrael,whichtheyshallmaketowardthis place:hearthoufromthydwellingplace,evenfromheaven; andwhenthouhearest,forgive.

22Ifamansinagainsthisneighbour,andanoathbelaid uponhimtomakehimswear,andtheoathcomebefore thinealtarinthishouse;

23Thenhearthoufromheaven,anddo,andjudgethy servants,byrequitingthewicked,byrecompensinghis wayuponhisownhead;andbyjustifyingtherighteous,by givinghimaccordingtohisrighteousness

24AndifthypeopleIsraelbeputtotheworsebeforethe enemy,becausetheyhavesinnedagainstthee;andshall returnandconfessthyname,andprayandmake supplicationbeforetheeinthishouse;

25Thenhearthoufromtheheavens,andforgivethesinof thypeopleIsrael,andbringthemagainuntothelandwhich thougavesttothemandtotheirfathers

26Whentheheavenisshutup,andthereisnorain, becausetheyhavesinnedagainstthee;yetiftheypray towardthisplace,andconfessthyname,andturnfrom theirsin,whenthoudostafflictthem;

27Thenhearthoufromheaven,andforgivethesinofthy servants,andofthypeopleIsrael,whenthouhasttaught themthegoodway,whereintheyshouldwalk;andsend rainuponthyland,whichthouhastgivenuntothypeople foraninheritance

28Iftherebedearthintheland,iftherebepestilence,if therebeblasting,ormildew,locusts,orcaterpillers;iftheir enemiesbesiegetheminthecitiesoftheirland;whatsoever soreorwhatsoeversicknesstherebe:

29Thenwhatprayerorwhatsupplicationsoevershallbe madeofanyman,orofallthypeopleIsrael,whenevery oneshallknowhisownsoreandhisowngrief,andshall spreadforthhishandsinthishouse:

30Thenhearthoufromheaventhydwellingplace,and forgive,andrenderuntoeverymanaccordinguntoallhis ways,whoseheartthouknowest;(forthouonlyknowest theheartsofthechildrenofmen:)

31Thattheymayfearthee,towalkinthyways,solongas theyliveinthelandwhichthougavestuntoourfathers

32Moreoverconcerningthestranger,whichisnotofthy peopleIsrael,butiscomefromafarcountryforthygreat name'ssake,andthymightyhand,andthystretchedout arm;iftheycomeandprayinthishouse;

33Thenhearthoufromtheheavens,evenfromthy dwellingplace,anddoaccordingtoallthatthestranger callethtotheefor;thatallpeopleoftheearthmayknow thyname,andfearthee,asdoththypeopleIsrael,andmay knowthatthishousewhichIhavebuiltiscalledbythy name.

34Ifthypeoplegoouttowaragainsttheirenemiesbythe waythatthoushaltsendthem,andtheyprayuntothee towardthiscitywhichthouhastchosen,andthehouse whichIhavebuiltforthyname;

35Thenhearthoufromtheheavenstheirprayerandtheir supplication,andmaintaintheircause

36Iftheysinagainstthee,(forthereisnomanwhich sinnethnot,)andthoubeangrywiththem,anddeliver themoverbeforetheirenemies,andtheycarrythemaway captivesuntoalandfaroffornear;

37Yetiftheybethinkthemselvesinthelandwhitherthey arecarriedcaptive,andturnandprayuntotheeintheland oftheircaptivity,saying,Wehavesinned,wehavedone amiss,andhavedealtwickedly;

38Iftheyreturntotheewithalltheirheartandwithall theirsoulinthelandoftheircaptivity,whithertheyhave carriedthemcaptives,andpraytowardtheirland,which thougavestuntotheirfathers,andtowardthecitywhich thouhastchosen,andtowardthehousewhichIhavebuilt forthyname:

39Thenhearthoufromtheheavens,evenfromthy dwellingplace,theirprayerandtheirsupplications,and maintaintheircause,andforgivethypeoplewhichhave sinnedagainstthee.

40Now,myGod,let,Ibeseechthee,thineeyesbeopen, andletthineearsbeattentuntotheprayerthatismadein thisplace.

41Nowthereforearise,OLORDGod,intothyresting place,thou,andthearkofthystrength:letthypriests,O LORDGod,beclothedwithsalvation,andletthysaints rejoiceingoodness

42OLORDGod,turnnotawaythefaceofthineanointed: rememberthemerciesofDavidthyservant.

CHAPTER7

1NowwhenSolomonhadmadeanendofpraying,thefire camedownfromheaven,andconsumedtheburntoffering andthesacrifices;andthegloryoftheLORDfilledthe house

2Andthepriestscouldnotenterintothehouseofthe LORD,becausethegloryoftheLORDhadfilledthe LORD'Shouse

3AndwhenallthechildrenofIsraelsawhowthefire camedown,andthegloryoftheLORDuponthehouse, theybowedthemselveswiththeirfacestothegroundupon thepavement,andworshipped,andpraisedtheLORD, saying,Forheisgood;forhismercyendurethforever.

4Thenthekingandallthepeopleofferedsacrificesbefore theLORD

5AndkingSolomonofferedasacrificeoftwentyandtwo thousandoxen,andanhundredandtwentythousandsheep: sothekingandallthepeoplededicatedthehouseofGod.

6Andthepriestswaitedontheiroffices:theLevitesalso withinstrumentsofmusickoftheLORD,whichDavidthe kinghadmadetopraisetheLORD,becausehismercy endurethforever,whenDavidpraisedbytheirministry; andthepriestssoundedtrumpetsbeforethem,andallIsrael stood.

7MoreoverSolomonhallowedthemiddleofthecourtthat wasbeforethehouseoftheLORD:forthereheoffered burntofferings,andthefatofthepeaceofferings,because thebrasenaltarwhichSolomonhadmadewasnotableto receivetheburntofferings,andthemeatofferings,andthe fat.

8AlsoatthesametimeSolomonkeptthefeastsevendays, andallIsraelwithhim,averygreatcongregation,fromthe enteringinofHamathuntotheriverofEgypt

9Andintheeighthdaytheymadeasolemnassembly:for theykeptthededicationofthealtarsevendays,andthe feastsevendays

10Andonthethreeandtwentiethdayoftheseventh monthhesentthepeopleawayintotheirtents,gladand merryinheartforthegoodnessthattheLORDhadshewed untoDavid,andtoSolomon,andtoIsraelhispeople

11ThusSolomonfinishedthehouseoftheLORD,andthe king'shouse:andallthatcameintoSolomon'sheartto makeinthehouseoftheLORD,andinhisownhouse,he prosperouslyeffected.

12AndtheLORDappearedtoSolomonbynight,andsaid untohim,Ihaveheardthyprayer,andhavechosenthis placetomyselfforanhouseofsacrifice.

13IfIshutupheaventhattherebenorain,orifI commandthelocuststodevourtheland,orifIsend pestilenceamongmypeople;

14Ifmypeople,whicharecalledbymyname,shall humblethemselves,andpray,andseekmyface,andturn fromtheirwickedways;thenwillIhearfromheaven,and willforgivetheirsin,andwillhealtheirland

15Nowmineeyesshallbeopen,andmineearsattentunto theprayerthatismadeinthisplace.

16FornowhaveIchosenandsanctifiedthishouse,that mynamemaybethereforever:andmineeyesandmine heartshallbethereperpetually.

17Andasforthee,ifthouwiltwalkbeforeme,asDavid thyfatherwalked,anddoaccordingtoallthatIhave commandedthee,andshaltobservemystatutesandmy judgments;

18ThenwillIstablishthethroneofthykingdom, accordingasIhavecovenantedwithDavidthyfather, saying,ThereshallnotfailtheeamantoberulerinIsrael

19Butifyeturnaway,andforsakemystatutesandmy commandments,whichIhavesetbeforeyou,andshallgo andserveothergods,andworshipthem;

20ThenwillIpluckthemupbytherootsoutofmyland whichIhavegiventhem;andthishouse,whichIhave sanctifiedformyname,willIcastoutofmysight,andwill makeittobeaproverbandabywordamongallnations.

21Andthishouse,whichishigh,shallbeanastonishment toeveryonethatpassethbyit;sothatheshallsay,Why haththeLORDdonethusuntothisland,anduntothis house?

22Anditshallbeanswered,Becausetheyforsookthe LORDGodoftheirfathers,whichbroughtthemforthout ofthelandofEgypt,andlaidholdonothergods,and worshippedthem,andservedthem:thereforehathhe broughtallthiseviluponthem.

CHAPTER8

1Anditcametopassattheendoftwentyyears,wherein SolomonhadbuiltthehouseoftheLORD,andhisown house,

2ThatthecitieswhichHuramhadrestoredtoSolomon, Solomonbuiltthem,andcausedthechildrenofIsraelto dwellthere.

3AndSolomonwenttoHamathzobah,andprevailed againstit

4AndhebuiltTadmorinthewilderness,andallthestore cities,whichhebuiltinHamath

5AlsohebuiltBethhorontheupper,andBethhoronthe nether,fencedcities,withwalls,gates,andbars;

6AndBaalath,andallthestorecitiesthatSolomonhad, andallthechariotcities,andthecitiesofthehorsemen, andallthatSolomondesiredtobuildinJerusalem,andin Lebanon,andthroughoutallthelandofhisdominion.

7AsforallthepeoplethatwereleftoftheHittites,andthe Amorites,andthePerizzites,andtheHivites,andthe Jebusites,whichwerenotofIsrael,

8Butoftheirchildren,whowereleftafterthemintheland, whomthechildrenofIsraelconsumednot,themdid Solomonmaketopaytributeuntilthisday.

9ButofthechildrenofIsraeldidSolomonmakeno servantsforhiswork;buttheyweremenofwar,andchief ofhiscaptains,andcaptainsofhischariotsandhorsemen.

10AndthesewerethechiefofkingSolomon'sofficers, eventwohundredandfifty,thatbareruleoverthepeople 11AndSolomonbroughtupthedaughterofPharaohoutof thecityofDaviduntothehousethathehadbuiltforher: forhesaid,MywifeshallnotdwellinthehouseofDavid kingofIsrael,becausetheplacesareholy,whereuntothe arkoftheLORDhathcome

12ThenSolomonofferedburntofferingsuntotheLORD onthealtaroftheLORD,whichhehadbuiltbeforethe porch,

13Evenafteracertainrateeveryday,offeringaccordingto thecommandmentofMoses,onthesabbaths,andonthe newmoons,andonthesolemnfeasts,threetimesinthe year,eveninthefeastofunleavenedbread,andinthefeast ofweeks,andinthefeastoftabernacles.

14Andheappointed,accordingtotheorderofDavidhis father,thecoursesoftheprieststotheirservice,andthe Levitestotheircharges,topraiseandministerbeforethe priests,asthedutyofeverydayrequired:theportersalso bytheircoursesateverygate:forsohadDavidthemanof Godcommanded.

15Andtheydepartednotfromthecommandmentofthe kinguntothepriestsandLevitesconcerninganymatter,or concerningthetreasures.

16NowalltheworkofSolomonwasprepareduntothe dayofthefoundationofthehouseoftheLORD,anduntil itwasfinished.SothehouseoftheLORDwasperfected.

17ThenwentSolomontoEziongeber,andtoEloth,atthe seasideinthelandofEdom

18AndHuramsenthimbythehandsofhisservantsships, andservantsthathadknowledgeofthesea;andtheywent withtheservantsofSolomontoOphir,andtookthence fourhundredandfiftytalentsofgold,andbroughtthemto kingSolomon

1AndwhenthequeenofShebaheardofthefameof Solomon,shecametoproveSolomonwithhardquestions atJerusalem,withaverygreatcompany,andcamelsthat barespices,andgoldinabundance,andpreciousstones: andwhenshewascometoSolomon,shecommunedwith himofallthatwasinherheart

9Andshegavethekinganhundredandtwentytalentsof gold,andofspicesgreatabundance,andpreciousstones: neitherwasthereanysuchspiceasthequeenofSheba gavekingSolomon

10AndtheservantsalsoofHuram,andtheservantsof Solomon,whichbroughtgoldfromOphir,broughtalgum treesandpreciousstones

11Andthekingmadeofthealgumtreesterracestothe houseoftheLORD,andtotheking'spalace,andharpsand psalteriesforsingers:andtherewerenonesuchseenbefore inthelandofJudah

12AndkingSolomongavetothequeenofShebaallher desire,whatsoeversheasked,besidethatwhichshehad broughtuntothekingSosheturned,andwentawaytoher ownland,sheandherservants.

13NowtheweightofgoldthatcametoSolomoninone yearwassixhundredandthreescoreandsixtalentsofgold; 14Besidethatwhichchapmenandmerchantsbrought. AndallthekingsofArabiaandgovernorsofthecountry broughtgoldandsilvertoSolomon.

15AndkingSolomonmadetwohundredtargetsofbeaten gold:sixhundredshekelsofbeatengoldwenttoonetarget 16Andthreehundredshieldsmadeheofbeatengold:three hundredshekelsofgoldwenttooneshield.Andtheking puttheminthehouseoftheforestofLebanon

17Moreoverthekingmadeagreatthroneofivory,and overlaiditwithpuregold

18Andthereweresixstepstothethrone,withafootstool ofgold,whichwerefastenedtothethrone,andstayson eachsideofthesittingplace,andtwolionsstandingbythe stays:

19Andtwelvelionsstoodthereontheonesideandonthe otheruponthesixstepsTherewasnotthelikemadein anykingdom

20AndallthedrinkingvesselsofkingSolomonwereof gold,andallthevesselsofthehouseoftheforestof Lebanonwereofpuregold:nonewereofsilver;itwasnot anythingaccountedofinthedaysofSolomon.

21Fortheking'sshipswenttoTarshishwiththeservants ofHuram:everythreeyearsoncecametheshipsof Tarshishbringinggold,andsilver,ivory,andapes,and peacocks

22AndkingSolomonpassedallthekingsoftheearthin richesandwisdom

29NowtherestoftheactsofSolomon,firstandlast,are theynotwritteninthebookofNathantheprophet,andin theprophecyofAhijahtheShilonite,andinthevisionsof IddotheseeragainstJeroboamthesonofNebat?

30AndSolomonreignedinJerusalemoverallIsraelforty years

4Thyfathermadeouryokegrievous:nowthereforeease thousomewhatthegrievousservitudeofthyfather,andhis heavyyokethatheputuponus,andwewillservethee.

8Butheforsookthecounselwhichtheoldmengavehim, andtookcounselwiththeyoungmenthatwerebroughtup withhim,thatstoodbeforehim

9Andhesaiduntothem,Whatadvicegiveyethatwemay returnanswertothispeople,whichhavespokentome, saying,Easesomewhattheyokethatthyfatherdidput uponus?

10Andtheyoungmenthatwerebroughtupwithhim spakeuntohim,saying,Thusshaltthouanswerthepeople thatspakeuntothee,saying,Thyfathermadeouryoke heavy,butmakethouitsomewhatlighterforus;thusshalt thousayuntothem,Mylittlefingershallbethickerthan myfather'sloins

11Forwhereasmyfatherputaheavyyokeuponyou,I willputmoretoyouryoke:myfatherchastisedyouwith whips,butIwillchastiseyouwithscorpions

17ButasforthechildrenofIsraelthatdweltinthecities ofJudah,Rehoboamreignedoverthem

1AndwhenRehoboamwascometoJerusalem,he gatheredofthehouseofJudahandBenjaminanhundred andfourscorethousandchosenmen,whichwerewarriors, tofightagainstIsrael,thathemightbringthekingdom againtoRehoboam.

11Andhefortifiedthestrongholds,andputcaptainsin them,andstoreofvictual,andofoilandwine

12Andineveryseveralcityheputshieldsandspears,and madethemexceedingstrong,havingJudahandBenjamin onhisside

1Anditcametopass,whenRehoboamhadestablishedthe kingdom,andhadstrengthenedhimself,heforsookthelaw oftheLORD,andallIsraelwithhim

2Anditcametopass,thatinthefifthyearofking RehoboamShishakkingofEgyptcameupagainst Jerusalem,becausetheyhadtransgressedagainstthe LORD,

3Withtwelvehundredchariots,andthreescorethousand horsemen:andthepeoplewerewithoutnumberthatcame withhimoutofEgypt;theLubims,theSukkiims,andthe Ethiopians

4AndhetookthefencedcitieswhichpertainedtoJudah, andcametoJerusalem.

5ThencameShemaiahtheprophettoRehoboam,andto theprincesofJudah,thatweregatheredtogetherto JerusalembecauseofShishak,andsaiduntothem,Thus saiththeLORD,Yehaveforsakenme,andthereforehaveI alsoleftyouinthehandofShishak.

6WhereupontheprincesofIsraelandthekinghumbled themselves;andtheysaid,TheLORDisrighteous 7AndwhentheLORDsawthattheyhumbledthemselves, thewordoftheLORDcametoShemaiah,saying,They havehumbledthemselves;thereforeIwillnotdestroythem, butIwillgrantthemsomedeliverance;andmywrathshall notbepouredoutuponJerusalembythehandofShishak 8Neverthelesstheyshallbehisservants;thattheymay knowmyservice,andtheserviceofthekingdomsofthe countries

9SoShishakkingofEgyptcameupagainstJerusalem,and tookawaythetreasuresofthehouseoftheLORD,andthe treasuresoftheking'shouse;hetookall:hecarriedaway alsotheshieldsofgoldwhichSolomonhadmade

12Andwhenhehumbledhimself,thewrathoftheLORD turnedfromhim,thathewouldnotdestroyhimaltogether: andalsoinJudahthingswentwell.

13SokingRehoboamstrengthenedhimselfinJerusalem, andreigned:forRehoboamwasoneandfortyyearsold whenhebegantoreign,andhereignedseventeenyearsin Jerusalem,thecitywhichtheLORDhadchosenoutofall thetribesofIsrael,toputhisnamethere.Andhismother's namewasNaamahanAmmonitess

14Andhedidevil,becausehepreparednothisheartto seektheLORD.

15NowtheactsofRehoboam,firstandlast,aretheynot writteninthebookofShemaiahtheprophet,andofIddo theseerconcerninggenealogies?Andtherewerewars betweenRehoboamandJeroboamcontinually

16AndRehoboamsleptwithhisfathers,andwasburiedin thecityofDavid:andAbijahhissonreignedinhisstead.

CHAPTER13

1NowintheeighteenthyearofkingJeroboambegan AbijahtoreignoverJudah

2HereignedthreeyearsinJerusalem.Hismother'sname alsowasMichaiahthedaughterofUrielofGibeahAnd therewaswarbetweenAbijahandJeroboam

3AndAbijahsetthebattleinarraywithanarmyofvaliant menofwar,evenfourhundredthousandchosenmen: Jeroboamalsosetthebattleinarrayagainsthimwitheight hundredthousandchosenmen,beingmightymenofvalour.

4AndAbijahstoodupuponmountZemaraim,whichisin mountEphraim,andsaid,Hearme,thouJeroboam,andall Israel;

5OughtyenottoknowthattheLORDGodofIsraelgave thekingdomoverIsraeltoDavidforever,eventohimand tohissonsbyacovenantofsalt?

6YetJeroboamthesonofNebat,theservantofSolomon thesonofDavid,isrisenup,andhathrebelledagainsthis lord.

7Andtherearegathereduntohimvainmen,thechildren ofBelial,andhavestrengthenedthemselvesagainst RehoboamthesonofSolomon,whenRehoboamwas youngandtenderhearted,andcouldnotwithstandthem

8Andnowyethinktowithstandthekingdomofthe LORDinthehandofthesonsofDavid;andyebeagreat multitude,andtherearewithyougoldencalves,which Jeroboammadeyouforgods.

9HaveyenotcastoutthepriestsoftheLORD,thesonsof Aaron,andtheLevites,andhavemadeyoupriestsafterthe mannerofthenationsofotherlands?sothatwhosoever comethtoconsecratehimselfwithayoungbullockand sevenrams,thesamemaybeapriestofthemthatareno gods.

10Butasforus,theLORDisourGod,andwehavenot forsakenhim;andthepriests,whichministeruntothe LORD,arethesonsofAaron,andtheLeviteswaitupon theirbusiness:

11AndtheyburnuntotheLORDeverymorningandevery eveningburntsacrificesandsweetincense:theshewbread alsosettheyinorderuponthepuretable;andthe candlestickofgoldwiththelampsthereof,toburnevery evening:forwekeepthechargeoftheLORDourGod;but yehaveforsakenhim

12And,behold,Godhimselfiswithusforourcaptain,and hispriestswithsoundingtrumpetstocryalarmagainstyou. OchildrenofIsrael,fightyenotagainsttheLORDGodof yourfathers;foryeshallnotprosper

13ButJeroboamcausedanambushmenttocomeabout behindthem:sotheywerebeforeJudah,andthe ambushmentwasbehindthem

14AndwhenJudahlookedback,behold,thebattlewas beforeandbehind:andtheycrieduntotheLORD,andthe priestssoundedwiththetrumpets

15ThenthemenofJudahgaveashout:andasthemenof Judahshouted,itcametopass,thatGodsmoteJeroboam andallIsraelbeforeAbijahandJudah

16AndthechildrenofIsraelfledbeforeJudah:andGod deliveredthemintotheirhand

17AndAbijahandhispeopleslewthemwithagreat slaughter:sotherefelldownslainofIsraelfivehundred thousandchosenmen

18ThusthechildrenofIsraelwerebroughtunderatthat time,andthechildrenofJudahprevailed,becausethey reliedupontheLORDGodoftheirfathers

19AndAbijahpursuedafterJeroboam,andtookcities fromhim,Bethelwiththetownsthereof,andJeshanah withthetownsthereof,andEphrainwiththetownsthereof 20NeitherdidJeroboamrecoverstrengthagaininthedays ofAbijah:andtheLORDstruckhim,andhedied.

21ButAbijahwaxedmighty,andmarriedfourteenwives, andbegattwentyandtwosons,andsixteendaughters 22AndtherestoftheactsofAbijah,andhisways,andhis sayings,arewritteninthestoryoftheprophetIddo

1SoAbijahsleptwithhisfathers,andtheyburiedhimin thecityofDavid:andAsahissonreignedinhisstead.In hisdaysthelandwasquiettenyears

2AndAsadidthatwhichwasgoodandrightintheeyesof theLORDhisGod:

3Forhetookawaythealtarsofthestrangegods,andthe highplaces,andbrakedowntheimages,andcutdownthe groves:

4AndcommandedJudahtoseektheLORDGodoftheir fathers,andtodothelawandthecommandment.

5AlsohetookawayoutofallthecitiesofJudahthehigh placesandtheimages:andthekingdomwasquietbefore him.

6AndhebuiltfencedcitiesinJudah:forthelandhadrest, andhehadnowarinthoseyears;becausetheLORDhad givenhimrest.

7ThereforehesaiduntoJudah,Letusbuildthesecities, andmakeaboutthemwalls,andtowers,gates,andbars, whilethelandisyetbeforeus;becausewehavesoughtthe LORDourGod,wehavesoughthim,andhehathgivenus restoneverysideSotheybuiltandprospered

4ButwhentheyintheirtroubledidturnuntotheLORD GodofIsrael,andsoughthim,hewasfoundofthem.

5Andinthosetimestherewasnopeacetohimthatwent out,nortohimthatcamein,butgreatvexationswereupon alltheinhabitantsofthecountries.

6Andnationwasdestroyedofnation,andcityofcity:for Goddidvexthemwithalladversity.

7Beyestrongtherefore,andletnotyourhandsbeweak: foryourworkshallberewarded

8AndwhenAsaheardthesewords,andtheprophecyof Odedtheprophet,hetookcourage,andputawaythe abominableidolsoutofallthelandofJudahandBenjamin, andoutofthecitieswhichhehadtakenfrommount Ephraim,andrenewedthealtaroftheLORD,thatwas beforetheporchoftheLORD

10SotheygatheredthemselvestogetheratJerusalemin thethirdmonth,inthefifteenthyearofthereignofAsa

11AndtheyoffereduntotheLORDthesametime,ofthe spoilwhichtheyhadbrought,sevenhundredoxenand seventhousandsheep

12AndtheyenteredintoacovenanttoseektheLORD Godoftheirfatherswithalltheirheartandwithalltheir soul;

13ThatwhosoeverwouldnotseektheLORDGodof Israelshouldbeputtodeath,whethersmallorgreat, whethermanorwoman

14AndtheyswareuntotheLORDwithaloudvoice,and withshouting,andwithtrumpets,andwithcornets.

5Anditcametopass,whenBaashaheardit,thatheleft offbuildingofRamah,andlethisworkcease.

6ThenAsathekingtookallJudah;andtheycarriedaway thestonesofRamah,andthetimberthereof,wherewith Baashawasbuilding;andhebuilttherewithGebaand Mizpah.

8WerenottheEthiopiansandtheLubimsahugehost, withverymanychariotsandhorsemen?yet,becausethou didstrelyontheLORD,hedeliveredthemintothinehand.

9FortheeyesoftheLORDruntoandfrothroughoutthe wholeearth,toshewhimselfstronginthebehalfofthem whoseheartisperfecttowardhim.Hereinthouhastdone foolishly:thereforefromhenceforththoushalthavewars 10ThenAsawaswrothwiththeseer,andputhimina prisonhouse;forhewasinaragewithhimbecauseofthis thingAndAsaoppressedsomeofthepeoplethesame time

32Foritcametopass,that,whenthecaptainsofthe chariotsperceivedthatitwasnotthekingofIsrael,they turnedbackagainfrompursuinghim

33Andacertainmandrewabowataventure,andsmote thekingofIsraelbetweenthejointsoftheharness: thereforehesaidtohischariotman,Turnthinehand,that thoumayestcarrymeoutofthehost;forIamwounded

3AndJehoshaphatfeared,andsethimselftoseekthe LORD,andproclaimedafastthroughoutallJudah

4AndJudahgatheredthemselvestogether,toaskhelpof theLORD:evenoutofallthecitiesofJudahtheycameto seektheLORD

24AndwhenJudahcametowardthewatchtowerinthe wilderness,theylookeduntothemultitude,and,behold, theyweredeadbodiesfallentotheearth,andnoneescaped

10SotheEdomitesrevoltedfromunderthehandofJudah untothisdayThesametimealsodidLibnahrevoltfrom underhishand;becausehehadforsakentheLORDGodof hisfathers.

11Moreoverhemadehighplacesinthemountainsof Judah,andcausedtheinhabitantsofJerusalemtocommit fornication,andcompelledJudahthereto.

12AndtherecameawritingtohimfromElijahtheprophet, saying,ThussaiththeLORDGodofDavidthyfather, BecausethouhastnotwalkedinthewaysofJehoshaphat thyfather,norinthewaysofAsakingofJudah, 13ButhastwalkedinthewayofthekingsofIsrael,and hastmadeJudahandtheinhabitantsofJerusalemtogoa whoring,liketothewhoredomsofthehouseofAhab,and alsohastslainthybrethrenofthyfather'shouse,which werebetterthanthyself:

14Behold,withagreatplaguewilltheLORDsmitethy people,andthychildren,andthywives,andallthygoods: 15Andthoushalthavegreatsicknessbydiseaseofthy bowels,untilthybowelsfalloutbyreasonofthesickness daybyday

16MoreovertheLORDstirredupagainstJehoramthe spiritofthePhilistines,andoftheArabians,thatwerenear theEthiopians:

17AndtheycameupintoJudah,andbrakeintoit,and carriedawayallthesubstancethatwasfoundintheking's house,andhissonsalso,andhiswives;sothattherewas neverasonlefthim,saveJehoahaz,theyoungestofhis sons

18AndafterallthistheLORDsmotehiminhisbowels withanincurabledisease.

19Anditcametopass,thatinprocessoftime,afterthe endoftwoyears,hisbowelsfelloutbyreasonofhis sickness:sohediedofsorediseases.Andhispeoplemade noburningforhim,liketheburningofhisfathers 20Thirtyandtwoyearsoldwashewhenhebegantoreign, andhereignedinJerusalemeightyears,anddeparted withoutbeingdesiredHowbeittheyburiedhiminthecity ofDavid,butnotinthesepulchresofthekings.

CHAPTER22

1AndtheinhabitantsofJerusalemmadeAhaziahhis youngestsonkinginhisstead:forthebandofmenthat camewiththeArabianstothecamphadslainalltheeldest. SoAhaziahthesonofJehoramkingofJudahreigned 2FortyandtwoyearsoldwasAhaziahwhenhebeganto reign,andhereignedoneyearinJerusalem.Hismother's namealsowasAthaliahthedaughterofOmri

3HealsowalkedinthewaysofthehouseofAhab:forhis motherwashiscounsellortodowickedly.

4WhereforehedidevilinthesightoftheLORDlikethe houseofAhab:fortheywerehiscounsellorsafterthedeath ofhisfathertohisdestruction

5Hewalkedalsoaftertheircounsel,andwentwith JehoramthesonofAhabkingofIsraeltowaragainst HazaelkingofSyriaatRamothgilead:andtheSyrians smoteJoram

6AndhereturnedtobehealedinJezreelbecauseofthe woundswhichweregivenhimatRamah,whenhefought withHazaelkingofSyriaAndAzariahthesonofJehoram kingofJudahwentdowntoseeJehoramthesonofAhabat Jezreel,becausehewassick

7AndthedestructionofAhaziahwasofGodbycomingto Joram:forwhenhewascome,hewentoutwithJehoram againstJehuthesonofNimshi,whomtheLORDhad anointedtocutoffthehouseofAhab

10ButwhenAthaliahthemotherofAhaziahsawthather sonwasdead,shearoseanddestroyedalltheseedroyalof thehouseofJudah.

11ButJehoshabeath,thedaughteroftheking,tookJoash thesonofAhaziah,andstolehimfromamongtheking's sonsthatwereslain,andputhimandhisnurseina bedchamberSoJehoshabeath,thedaughterofking Jehoram,thewifeofJehoiadathepriest,(forshewasthe sisterofAhaziah,)hidhimfromAthaliah,sothatsheslew himnot

CHAPTER23

1AndintheseventhyearJehoiadastrengthenedhimself, andtookthecaptainsofhundreds,Azariahthesonof Jeroham,andIshmaelthesonofJehohanan,andAzariah thesonofObed,andMaaseiahthesonofAdaiah,and ElishaphatthesonofZichri,intocovenantwithhim

2AndtheywentaboutinJudah,andgatheredtheLevites outofallthecitiesofJudah,andthechiefofthefathersof Israel,andtheycametoJerusalem.

3Andallthecongregationmadeacovenantwiththeking inthehouseofGodAndhesaiduntothem,Behold,the king'ssonshallreign,astheLORDhathsaidofthesonsof David

4Thisisthethingthatyeshalldo;Athirdpartofyou enteringonthesabbath,ofthepriestsandoftheLevites, shallbeportersofthedoors;

5Andathirdpartshallbeattheking'shouse;andathird partatthegateofthefoundation:andallthepeopleshall beinthecourtsofthehouseoftheLORD

6ButletnonecomeintothehouseoftheLORD,savethe priests,andtheythatministeroftheLevites;theyshallgo in,fortheyareholy:butallthepeopleshallkeepthewatch oftheLORD

7AndtheLevitesshallcompassthekingroundabout, everymanwithhisweaponsinhishand;andwhosoever elsecomethintothehouse,heshallbeputtodeath:butbe yewiththekingwhenhecomethin,andwhenhegoethout

8SotheLevitesandallJudahdidaccordingtoallthings thatJehoiadathepriesthadcommanded,andtookevery manhismenthatweretocomeinonthesabbath,with themthatweretogooutonthesabbath:forJehoiadathe priestdismissednotthecourses.

9MoreoverJehoiadathepriestdeliveredtothecaptainsof hundredsspears,andbucklers,andshields,thathadbeen kingDavid's,whichwereinthehouseofGod

10Andhesetallthepeople,everymanhavinghisweapon inhishand,fromtherightsideofthetempletotheleftside ofthetemple,alongbythealtarandthetemple,bytheking roundabout

11Thentheybroughtouttheking'sson,andputuponhim thecrown,andgavehimthetestimony,andmadehimking AndJehoiadaandhissonsanointedhim,andsaid,God savetheking.

12NowwhenAthaliahheardthenoiseofthepeople runningandpraisingtheking,shecametothepeopleinto thehouseoftheLORD:

13Andshelooked,and,behold,thekingstoodathispillar attheenteringin,andtheprincesandthetrumpetsbythe king:andallthepeopleofthelandrejoiced,andsounded withtrumpets,alsothesingerswithinstrumentsofmusick, andsuchastaughttosingpraiseThenAthaliahrenther clothes,andsaid,Treason,Treason.

18AlsoJehoiadaappointedtheofficesofthehouseofthe LORDbythehandoftheprieststheLevites,whomDavid haddistributedinthehouseoftheLORD,tooffertheburnt offeringsoftheLORD,asitiswritteninthelawofMoses, withrejoicingandwithsinging,asitwasordainedby David.

19Andhesettheportersatthegatesofthehouseofthe LORD,thatnonewhichwasuncleaninanythingshould enterin.

20Andhetookthecaptainsofhundreds,andthenobles, andthegovernorsofthepeople,andallthepeopleofthe land,andbroughtdownthekingfromthehouseofthe LORD:andtheycamethroughthehighgateintotheking's house,andsetthekinguponthethroneofthekingdom

CHAPTER24

1Joashwassevenyearsoldwhenhebegantoreign,and hereignedfortyyearsinJerusalemHismother'snamealso wasZibiahofBeersheba.

2AndJoashdidthatwhichwasrightinthesightofthe LORDallthedaysofJehoiadathepriest

3AndJehoiadatookforhimtwowives;andhebegatsons anddaughters.

4Anditcametopassafterthis,thatJoashwasmindedto repairthehouseoftheLORD.

5AndhegatheredtogetherthepriestsandtheLevites,and saidtothem,GooutuntothecitiesofJudah,andgatherof allIsraelmoneytorepairthehouseofyourGodfromyear toyear,andseethatyehastenthematterHowbeitthe Leviteshasteneditnot

6AndthekingcalledforJehoiadathechief,andsaidunto him,WhyhastthounotrequiredoftheLevitestobringin outofJudahandoutofJerusalemthecollection,according tothecommandmentofMosestheservantoftheLORD, andofthecongregationofIsrael,forthetabernacleof witness?

7ForthesonsofAthaliah,thatwickedwoman,hadbroken upthehouseofGod;andalsoallthededicatedthingsof thehouseoftheLORDdidtheybestowuponBaalim 8Andattheking'scommandmenttheymadeachest,and setitwithoutatthegateofthehouseoftheLORD 9AndtheymadeaproclamationthroughJudahand Jerusalem,tobringintotheLORDthecollectionthat MosestheservantofGodlaiduponIsraelinthewilderness 10Andalltheprincesandallthepeoplerejoiced,and broughtin,andcastintothechest,untiltheyhadmadean end

11Nowitcametopass,thatatwhattimethechestwas broughtuntotheking'sofficebythehandoftheLevites, andwhentheysawthattherewasmuchmoney,theking's scribeandthehighpriest'sofficercameandemptiedthe chest,andtookit,andcarriedittohisplaceagain.Thus theydiddaybyday,andgatheredmoneyinabundance 12AndthekingandJehoiadagaveittosuchasdidthe workoftheserviceofthehouseoftheLORD,andhired masonsandcarpenterstorepairthehouseoftheLORD, andalsosuchaswroughtironandbrasstomendthehouse oftheLORD.

13Sotheworkmenwrought,andtheworkwasperfected bythem,andtheysetthehouseofGodinhisstate,and strengthenedit

14Andwhentheyhadfinishedit,theybroughttherestof themoneybeforethekingandJehoiada,whereofwere madevesselsforthehouseoftheLORD,evenvesselsto minister,andtoofferwithal,andspoons,andvesselsof goldandsilver.Andtheyofferedburntofferingsinthe houseoftheLORDcontinuallyallthedaysofJehoiada 15ButJehoiadawaxedold,andwasfullofdayswhenhe died;anhundredandthirtyyearsoldwashewhenhedied. 16AndtheyburiedhiminthecityofDavidamongthe kings,becausehehaddonegoodinIsrael,bothtoward God,andtowardhishouse.

17NowafterthedeathofJehoiadacametheprincesof Judah,andmadeobeisancetothekingThentheking hearkeneduntothem.

18AndtheyleftthehouseoftheLORDGodoftheir fathers,andservedgrovesandidols:andwrathcameupon JudahandJerusalemforthistheirtrespass

19Yethesentprophetstothem,tobringthemagainunto theLORD;andtheytestifiedagainstthem:buttheywould notgiveear

20AndtheSpiritofGodcameuponZechariahthesonof Jehoiadathepriest,whichstoodabovethepeople,andsaid untothem,ThussaithGod,Whytransgressyethe commandmentsoftheLORD,thatyecannotprosper? becauseyehaveforsakentheLORD,hehathalsoforsaken you

21Andtheyconspiredagainsthim,andstonedhimwith stonesatthecommandmentofthekinginthecourtofthe houseoftheLORD

22ThusJoashthekingrememberednotthekindness whichJehoiadahisfatherhaddonetohim,butslewhisson. Andwhenhedied,hesaid,TheLORDlookuponit,and requireit

23Anditcametopassattheendoftheyear,thatthehost ofSyriacameupagainsthim:andtheycametoJudahand Jerusalem,anddestroyedalltheprincesofthepeoplefrom amongthepeople,andsentallthespoilofthemuntothe kingofDamascus

24ForthearmyoftheSyrianscamewithasmallcompany ofmen,andtheLORDdeliveredaverygreathostinto theirhand,becausetheyhadforsakentheLORDGodof theirfathersSotheyexecutedjudgmentagainstJoash

25Andwhentheyweredepartedfromhim,(fortheyleft himingreatdiseases,)hisownservantsconspiredagainst himforthebloodofthesonsofJehoiadathepriest,and slewhimonhisbed,andhedied:andtheyburiedhimin thecityofDavid,buttheyburiedhimnotinthesepulchres ofthekings

26Andthesearetheythatconspiredagainsthim;Zabad thesonofShimeathanAmmonitess,andJehozabadthe sonofShimrithaMoabitess

27Nowconcerninghissons,andthegreatnessofthe burdenslaiduponhim,andtherepairingofthehouseof God,behold,theyarewritteninthestoryofthebookofthe kings.AndAmaziahhissonreignedinhisstead.

1Amaziahwastwentyandfiveyearsoldwhenhebeganto reign,andhereignedtwentyandnineyearsinJerusalem Andhismother'snamewasJehoaddanofJerusalem

10ThenAmaziahseparatedthem,towit,thearmythatwas cometohimoutofEphraim,togohomeagain:wherefore theirangerwasgreatlykindledagainstJudah,andthey returnedhomeingreatanger

11AndAmaziahstrengthenedhimself,andledforthhis people,andwenttothevalleyofsalt,andsmoteofthe childrenofSeirtenthousand

12Andothertenthousandleftalivedidthechildrenof Judahcarryawaycaptive,andbroughtthemuntothetopof therock,andcastthemdownfromthetopoftherock,that theyallwerebrokeninpieces

13ButthesoldiersofthearmywhichAmaziahsentback, thattheyshouldnotgowithhimtobattle,felluponthe citiesofJudah,fromSamariaevenuntoBethhoron,and smotethreethousandofthem,andtookmuchspoil.

14Nowitcametopass,afterthatAmaziahwascomefrom theslaughteroftheEdomites,thathebroughtthegodsof thechildrenofSeir,andsetthemuptobehisgods,and boweddownhimselfbeforethem,andburnedincenseunto them

15WhereforetheangeroftheLORDwaskindledagainst Amaziah,andhesentuntohimaprophet,whichsaidunto him,Whyhastthousoughtafterthegodsofthepeople, whichcouldnotdelivertheirownpeopleoutofthinehand?

16Anditcametopass,ashetalkedwithhim,thattheking saiduntohim,Artthoumadeoftheking'scounsel?forbear; whyshouldestthoubesmitten?Thentheprophetforbare, andsaid,IknowthatGodhathdeterminedtodestroythee, becausethouhastdonethis,andhastnothearkenedunto mycounsel.

17ThenAmaziahkingofJudahtookadvice,andsentto Joash,thesonofJehoahaz,thesonofJehu,kingofIsrael, saying,Come,letusseeoneanotherintheface

18AndJoashkingofIsraelsenttoAmaziahkingofJudah, saying,ThethistlethatwasinLebanonsenttothecedar thatwasinLebanon,saying,Givethydaughtertomyson towife:andtherepassedbyawildbeastthatwasin Lebanon,andtrodedownthethistle.

19Thousayest,Lo,thouhastsmittentheEdomites;and thineheartlifteththeeuptoboast:abidenowathome;why shouldestthoumeddletothinehurt,thatthoushouldestfall, eventhou,andJudahwiththee?

20ButAmaziahwouldnothear;foritcameofGod,that hemightdeliverthemintothehandoftheirenemies, becausetheysoughtafterthegodsofEdom

18AndtheywithstoodUzziahtheking,andsaiduntohim, Itappertainethnotuntothee,Uzziah,toburnincenseunto theLORD,buttotheprieststhesonsofAaron,thatare consecratedtoburnincense:gooutofthesanctuary;for thouhasttrespassed;neithershallitbeforthinehonour fromtheLORDGod

19ThenUzziahwaswroth,andhadacenserinhishandto burnincense:andwhilehewaswrothwiththepriests,the leprosyevenroseupinhisforeheadbeforethepriestsin thehouseoftheLORD,frombesidetheincensealtar.

20AndAzariahthechiefpriest,andallthepriests,looked uponhim,and,behold,hewasleprousinhisforehead,and theythrusthimoutfromthence;yea,himselfhastedalsoto goout,becausetheLORDhadsmittenhim

21AndUzziahthekingwasaleperuntothedayofhis death,anddweltinaseveralhouse,beingaleper;forhe wascutofffromthehouseoftheLORD:andJothamhis sonwasovertheking'shouse,judgingthepeopleofthe land.

22NowtherestoftheactsofUzziah,firstandlast,did Isaiahtheprophet,thesonofAmoz,write

1Jothamwastwentyandfiveyearsoldwhenhebeganto reign,andhereignedsixteenyearsinJerusalemHis mother'snamealsowasJerushah,thedaughterofZadok 2AndhedidthatwhichwasrightinthesightoftheLORD, accordingtoallthathisfatherUzziahdid:howbeithe enterednotintothetempleoftheLORDAndthepeople didyetcorruptly

3HebuiltthehighgateofthehouseoftheLORD,andon thewallofOphelhebuiltmuch 4MoreoverhebuiltcitiesinthemountainsofJudah,andin theforestshebuiltcastlesandtowers.

5HefoughtalsowiththekingoftheAmmonites,and prevailedagainstthemAndthechildrenofAmmongave himthesameyearanhundredtalentsofsilver,andten thousandmeasuresofwheat,andtenthousandofbarley SomuchdidthechildrenofAmmonpayuntohim,both thesecondyear,andthethird.

6SoJothambecamemighty,becausehepreparedhisways beforetheLORDhisGod

7NowtherestoftheactsofJotham,andallhiswars,and hisways,lo,theyarewritteninthebookofthekingsof IsraelandJudah

1Ahazwastwentyyearsoldwhenhebegantoreign,and hereignedsixteenyearsinJerusalem:buthedidnotthat whichwasrightinthesightoftheLORD,likeDavidhis father:

2ForhewalkedinthewaysofthekingsofIsrael,and madealsomoltenimagesforBaalim

3Moreoverheburntincenseinthevalleyofthesonof Hinnom,andburnthischildreninthefire,afterthe abominationsoftheheathenwhomtheLORDhadcastout beforethechildrenofIsrael.

4Hesacrificedalsoandburntincenseinthehighplaces, andonthehills,andundereverygreentree

5WhereforetheLORDhisGoddeliveredhimintothe handofthekingofSyria;andtheysmotehim,andcarried awayagreatmultitudeofthemcaptives,andbroughtthem toDamascus.Andhewasalsodeliveredintothehandof thekingofIsrael,whosmotehimwithagreatslaughter

6ForPekahthesonofRemaliahslewinJudahanhundred andtwentythousandinoneday,whichwereallvaliant men;becausetheyhadforsakentheLORDGodoftheir fathers

7AndZichri,amightymanofEphraim,slewMaaseiahthe king'sson,andAzrikamthegovernorofthehouse,and Elkanahthatwasnexttotheking

8AndthechildrenofIsraelcarriedawaycaptiveoftheir brethrentwohundredthousand,women,sons,and daughters,andtookalsoawaymuchspoilfromthem,and broughtthespoiltoSamaria.

9ButaprophetoftheLORDwasthere,whosenamewas Oded:andhewentoutbeforethehostthatcametoSamaria, andsaiduntothem,Behold,becausetheLORDGodof yourfatherswaswrothwithJudah,hehathdeliveredthem intoyourhand,andyehaveslaintheminaragethat reachethupuntoheaven.

10Andnowyepurposetokeepunderthechildrenof JudahandJerusalemforbondmenandbondwomenunto you:butaretherenotwithyou,evenwithyou,sinsagainst theLORDyourGod?

11Nowhearmetherefore,anddeliverthecaptivesagain, whichyehavetakencaptiveofyourbrethren:forthefierce wrathoftheLORDisuponyou

12ThencertainoftheheadsofthechildrenofEphraim, AzariahthesonofJohanan,Berechiahthesonof Meshillemoth,andJehizkiahthesonofShallum,and AmasathesonofHadlai,stoodupagainstthemthatcame fromthewar,

13Andsaiduntothem,Yeshallnotbringinthecaptives hither:forwhereaswehaveoffendedagainsttheLORD already,yeintendtoaddmoretooursinsandtoour trespass:forourtrespassisgreat,andthereisfiercewrath againstIsrael.

14Sothearmedmenleftthecaptivesandthespoilbefore theprincesandallthecongregation

15Andthemenwhichwereexpressedbynameroseup, andtookthecaptives,andwiththespoilclothedallthat werenakedamongthem,andarrayedthem,andshodthem, andgavethemtoeatandtodrink,andanointedthem,and carriedallthefeebleofthemuponasses,andbroughtthem toJericho,thecityofpalmtrees,totheirbrethren:then theyreturnedtoSamaria

16AtthattimedidkingAhazsenduntothekingsof Assyriatohelphim.

17ForagaintheEdomiteshadcomeandsmittenJudah, andcarriedawaycaptives.

18ThePhilistinesalsohadinvadedthecitiesofthelow country,andofthesouthofJudah,andhadtaken Bethshemesh,andAjalon,andGederoth,andShochowith thevillagesthereof,andTimnahwiththevillagesthereof, Gimzoalsoandthevillagesthereof:andtheydweltthere

19FortheLORDbroughtJudahlowbecauseofAhazking ofIsrael;forhemadeJudahnaked,andtransgressedsore againsttheLORD

20AndTilgathpilneserkingofAssyriacameuntohim,and distressedhim,butstrengthenedhimnot

21ForAhaztookawayaportionoutofthehouseofthe LORD,andoutofthehouseoftheking,andoftheprinces, andgaveituntothekingofAssyria:buthehelpedhimnot 22Andinthetimeofhisdistressdidhetrespassyetmore againsttheLORD:thisisthatkingAhaz.

23ForhesacrificeduntothegodsofDamascus,which smotehim:andhesaid,Becausethegodsofthekingsof Syriahelpthem,thereforewillIsacrificetothem,thatthey mayhelpmeButtheyweretheruinofhim,andofall Israel

24AndAhazgatheredtogetherthevesselsofthehouseof God,andcutinpiecesthevesselsofthehouseofGod,and shutupthedoorsofthehouseoftheLORD,andhemade himaltarsineverycornerofJerusalem.

25AndineveryseveralcityofJudahhemadehighplaces toburnincenseuntoothergods,andprovokedtoangerthe LORDGodofhisfathers.

26Nowtherestofhisactsandofallhisways,firstandlast, behold,theyarewritteninthebookofthekingsofJudah andIsrael.

27AndAhazsleptwithhisfathers,andtheyburiedhimin thecity,eveninJerusalem:buttheybroughthimnotinto thesepulchresofthekingsofIsrael:andHezekiahhisson reignedinhisstead

CHAPTER29

1Hezekiahbegantoreignwhenhewasfiveandtwenty yearsold,andhereignednineandtwentyyearsin JerusalemAndhismother'snamewasAbijah,the daughterofZechariah.

2AndhedidthatwhichwasrightinthesightoftheLORD, accordingtoallthatDavidhisfatherhaddone 3Heinthefirstyearofhisreign,inthefirstmonth,opened thedoorsofthehouseoftheLORD,andrepairedthem 4AndhebroughtinthepriestsandtheLevites,and gatheredthemtogetherintotheeaststreet, 5Andsaiduntothem,Hearme,yeLevites,sanctifynow yourselves,andsanctifythehouseoftheLORDGodof yourfathers,andcarryforththefilthinessoutoftheholy place

6Forourfathershavetrespassed,anddonethatwhichwas evilintheeyesoftheLORDourGod,andhaveforsaken him,andhaveturnedawaytheirfacesfromthehabitation oftheLORD,andturnedtheirbacks

7Alsotheyhaveshutupthedoorsoftheporch,andput outthelamps,andhavenotburnedincensenoroffered burntofferingsintheholyplaceuntotheGodofIsrael

8WhereforethewrathoftheLORDwasuponJudahand Jerusalem,andhehathdeliveredthemtotrouble,to astonishment,andtohissing,asyeseewithyoureyes

9For,lo,ourfathershavefallenbythesword,andoursons andourdaughtersandourwivesareincaptivityforthis

10Nowitisinminehearttomakeacovenantwiththe LORDGodofIsrael,thathisfiercewrathmayturnaway fromus

11Mysons,benotnownegligent:fortheLORDhath chosenyoutostandbeforehim,toservehim,andthatye shouldministeruntohim,andburnincense

12ThentheLevitesarose,MahaththesonofAmasai,and JoelthesonofAzariah,ofthesonsoftheKohathites:and ofthesonsofMerari,KishthesonofAbdi,andAzariah thesonofJehalelel:andoftheGershonites;Joahthesonof Zimmah,andEdenthesonofJoah: 13AndofthesonsofElizaphan;Shimri,andJeiel:andof thesonsofAsaph;Zechariah,andMattaniah: 14AndofthesonsofHeman;Jehiel,andShimei:andof thesonsofJeduthun;Shemaiah,andUzziel

15Andtheygatheredtheirbrethren,andsanctified themselves,andcame,accordingtothecommandmentof theking,bythewordsoftheLORD,tocleansethehouse oftheLORD

16Andthepriestswentintotheinnerpartofthehouseof theLORD,tocleanseit,andbroughtoutallthe uncleannessthattheyfoundinthetempleoftheLORD intothecourtofthehouseoftheLORD.AndtheLevites tookit,tocarryitoutabroadintothebrookKidron 17Nowtheybeganonthefirstdayofthefirstmonthto sanctify,andontheeighthdayofthemonthcametheyto theporchoftheLORD:sotheysanctifiedthehouseofthe LORDineightdays;andinthesixteenthdayofthefirst monththeymadeanend.

18ThentheywentintoHezekiahtheking,andsaid,We havecleansedallthehouseoftheLORD,andthealtarof burntoffering,withallthevesselsthereof,andthe shewbreadtable,withallthevesselsthereof 19Moreoverallthevessels,whichkingAhazinhisreign didcastawayinhistransgression,havewepreparedand sanctified,and,behold,theyarebeforethealtarofthe LORD.

20ThenHezekiahthekingroseearly,andgatheredthe rulersofthecity,andwentuptothehouseoftheLORD

21Andtheybroughtsevenbullocks,andsevenrams,and sevenlambs,andsevenhegoats,forasinofferingforthe kingdom,andforthesanctuary,andforJudahAndhe commandedtheprieststhesonsofAarontoofferthemon thealtaroftheLORD

22Sotheykilledthebullocks,andthepriestsreceivedthe blood,andsprinkleditonthealtar:likewise,whenthey hadkilledtherams,theysprinkledtheblooduponthealtar: theykilledalsothelambs,andtheysprinkledtheblood uponthealtar.

23Andtheybroughtforththehegoatsforthesinoffering beforethekingandthecongregation;andtheylaidtheir handsuponthem:

24Andthepriestskilledthem,andtheymade reconciliationwiththeirblooduponthealtar,tomakean atonementforallIsrael:forthekingcommandedthatthe burntofferingandthesinofferingshouldbemadeforall Israel.

25AndhesettheLevitesinthehouseoftheLORDwith cymbals,withpsalteries,andwithharps,accordingtothe commandmentofDavid,andofGadtheking'sseer,and Nathantheprophet:forsowasthecommandmentofthe LORDbyhisprophets

26AndtheLevitesstoodwiththeinstrumentsofDavid, andthepriestswiththetrumpets

27AndHezekiahcommandedtooffertheburntoffering uponthealtar.Andwhentheburntofferingbegan,the songoftheLORDbeganalsowiththetrumpets,andwith theinstrumentsordainedbyDavidkingofIsrael

28Andallthecongregationworshipped,andthesingers sang,andthetrumpeterssounded:andallthiscontinued untiltheburntofferingwasfinished

29Andwhentheyhadmadeanendofoffering,theking andallthatwerepresentwithhimbowedthemselves,and worshipped

30MoreoverHezekiahthekingandtheprinces commandedtheLevitestosingpraiseuntotheLORDwith thewordsofDavid,andofAsaphtheseerAndtheysang praiseswithgladness,andtheybowedtheirheadsand worshipped

31ThenHezekiahansweredandsaid,Nowyehave consecratedyourselvesuntotheLORD,comenearand bringsacrificesandthankofferingsintothehouseofthe LORDAndthecongregationbroughtinsacrificesand thankofferings;andasmanyaswereofafreeheartburnt offerings

32Andthenumberoftheburntofferings,whichthe congregationbrought,wasthreescoreandtenbullocks,an hundredrams,andtwohundredlambs:allthesewerefora burntofferingtotheLORD.

33Andtheconsecratedthingsweresixhundredoxenand threethousandsheep

34Butthepriestsweretoofew,sothattheycouldnotflay alltheburntofferings:whereforetheirbrethrentheLevites didhelpthem,tilltheworkwasended,anduntiltheother priestshadsanctifiedthemselves:fortheLeviteswere moreuprightinhearttosanctifythemselvesthanthe priests

35Andalsotheburntofferingswereinabundance,with thefatofthepeaceofferings,andthedrinkofferingsfor everyburntofferingSotheserviceofthehouseofthe LORDwassetinorder.

36AndHezekiahrejoiced,andallthepeople,thatGodhad preparedthepeople:forthethingwasdonesuddenly

CHAPTER30

1AndHezekiahsenttoallIsraelandJudah,andwrote lettersalsotoEphraimandManasseh,thattheyshould cometothehouseoftheLORDatJerusalem,tokeepthe passoveruntotheLORDGodofIsrael.

2Forthekinghadtakencounsel,andhisprinces,andall thecongregationinJerusalem,tokeepthepassoverinthe secondmonth

3Fortheycouldnotkeepitatthattime,becausethepriests hadnotsanctifiedthemselvessufficiently,neitherhadthe peoplegatheredthemselvestogethertoJerusalem

4Andthethingpleasedthekingandallthecongregation

5Sotheyestablishedadecreetomakeproclamation throughoutallIsrael,fromBeershebaeventoDan,that theyshouldcometokeepthepassoveruntotheLORDGod ofIsraelatJerusalem:fortheyhadnotdoneitofalong timeinsuchsortasitwaswritten

6Sothepostswentwiththelettersfromthekingandhis princesthroughoutallIsraelandJudah,andaccordingto thecommandmentoftheking,saying,YechildrenofIsrael, turnagainuntotheLORDGodofAbraham,Isaac,and Israel,andhewillreturntotheremnantofyou,thatare escapedoutofthehandofthekingsofAssyria

7Andbenotyelikeyourfathers,andlikeyourbrethren, whichtrespassedagainsttheLORDGodoftheirfathers, whothereforegavethemuptodesolation,asyesee

8Nowbeyenotstiffnecked,asyourfatherswere,butyield yourselvesuntotheLORD,andenterintohissanctuary, whichhehathsanctifiedforever:andservetheLORD yourGod,thatthefiercenessofhiswrathmayturnaway fromyou.

9ForifyeturnagainuntotheLORD,yourbrethrenand yourchildrenshallfindcompassionbeforethemthatlead themcaptive,sothattheyshallcomeagainintothisland: fortheLORDyourGodisgraciousandmerciful,andwill notturnawayhisfacefromyou,ifyereturnuntohim

10Sothepostspassedfromcitytocitythroughthecountry ofEphraimandManassehevenuntoZebulun:butthey laughedthemtoscorn,andmockedthem

11NeverthelessdiversofAsherandManassehandof Zebulunhumbledthemselves,andcametoJerusalem

12AlsoinJudahthehandofGodwastogivethemone hearttodothecommandmentofthekingandofthe princes,bythewordoftheLORD

13AndthereassembledatJerusalemmuchpeopletokeep thefeastofunleavenedbreadinthesecondmonth,avery greatcongregation

14Andtheyaroseandtookawaythealtarsthatwerein Jerusalem,andallthealtarsforincensetooktheyaway, andcastthemintothebrookKidron

15Thentheykilledthepassoveronthefourteenthdayof thesecondmonth:andthepriestsandtheLeviteswere ashamed,andsanctifiedthemselves,andbroughtinthe burntofferingsintothehouseoftheLORD.

16Andtheystoodintheirplaceaftertheirmanner, accordingtothelawofMosesthemanofGod:thepriests sprinkledtheblood,whichtheyreceivedofthehandofthe Levites

17Forthereweremanyinthecongregationthatwerenot sanctified:thereforetheLeviteshadthechargeofthe killingofthepassoversforeveryonethatwasnotclean,to sanctifythemuntotheLORD

18Foramultitudeofthepeople,evenmanyofEphraim, andManasseh,Issachar,andZebulun,hadnotcleansed themselves,yetdidtheyeatthepassoverotherwisethanit waswritten.ButHezekiahprayedforthem,saying,The goodLORDpardoneveryone

19ThatpreparethhishearttoseekGod,theLORDGodof hisfathers,thoughhebenotcleansedaccordingtothe purificationofthesanctuary

20AndtheLORDhearkenedtoHezekiah,andhealedthe people.

21AndthechildrenofIsraelthatwerepresentatJerusalem keptthefeastofunleavenedbreadsevendayswithgreat gladness:andtheLevitesandthepriestspraisedtheLORD daybyday,singingwithloudinstrumentsuntotheLORD.

22AndHezekiahspakecomfortablyuntoalltheLevites thattaughtthegoodknowledgeoftheLORD:andtheydid eatthroughoutthefeastsevendays,offeringpeace offerings,andmakingconfessiontotheLORDGodof theirfathers.

23Andthewholeassemblytookcounseltokeepother sevendays:andtheykeptothersevendayswithgladness

24ForHezekiahkingofJudahdidgivetothecongregation athousandbullocksandseventhousandsheep;andthe princesgavetothecongregationathousandbullocksand tenthousandsheep:andagreatnumberofpriests sanctifiedthemselves

25AndallthecongregationofJudah,withthepriestsand theLevites,andallthecongregationthatcameoutofIsrael, andthestrangersthatcameoutofthelandofIsrael,and thatdweltinJudah,rejoiced

26SotherewasgreatjoyinJerusalem:forsincethetime ofSolomonthesonofDavidkingofIsraeltherewasnot thelikeinJerusalem

27ThentheprieststheLevitesaroseandblessedthe people:andtheirvoicewasheard,andtheirprayercameup tohisholydwellingplace,evenuntoheaven

CHAPTER31

1Nowwhenallthiswasfinished,allIsraelthatwere presentwentouttothecitiesofJudah,andbrakethe imagesinpieces,andcutdownthegroves,andthrewdown thehighplacesandthealtarsoutofallJudahandBenjamin, inEphraimalsoandManasseh,untiltheyhadutterly destroyedthemall.ThenallthechildrenofIsraelreturned, everymantohispossession,intotheirowncities.

2AndHezekiahappointedthecoursesofthepriestsand theLevitesaftertheircourses,everymanaccordingtohis service,thepriestsandLevitesforburntofferingsandfor peaceofferings,tominister,andtogivethanks,andto praiseinthegatesofthetentsoftheLORD

3Heappointedalsotheking'sportionofhissubstancefor theburntofferings,towit,forthemorningandevening burntofferings,andtheburntofferingsforthesabbaths, andforthenewmoons,andforthesetfeasts,asitis writteninthelawoftheLORD

4Moreoverhecommandedthepeoplethatdweltin JerusalemtogivetheportionofthepriestsandtheLevites, thattheymightbeencouragedinthelawoftheLORD

5Andassoonasthecommandmentcameabroad,the childrenofIsraelbroughtinabundancethefirstfruitsof corn,wine,andoil,andhoney,andofalltheincreaseof thefield;andthetitheofallthingsbroughttheyin abundantly

6AndconcerningthechildrenofIsraelandJudah,that dweltinthecitiesofJudah,theyalsobroughtinthetitheof oxenandsheep,andthetitheofholythingswhichwere

consecrateduntotheLORDtheirGod,andlaidthemby heaps

7Inthethirdmonththeybegantolaythefoundationofthe heaps,andfinishedthemintheseventhmonth

8AndwhenHezekiahandtheprincescameandsawthe heaps,theyblessedtheLORD,andhispeopleIsrael

9ThenHezekiahquestionedwiththepriestsandthe Levitesconcerningtheheaps.

10AndAzariahthechiefpriestofthehouseofZadok answeredhim,andsaid,Sincethepeoplebegantobring theofferingsintothehouseoftheLORD,wehavehad enoughtoeat,andhaveleftplenty:fortheLORDhath blessedhispeople;andthatwhichisleftisthisgreatstore 11ThenHezekiahcommandedtopreparechambersinthe houseoftheLORD;andtheypreparedthem,

12Andbroughtintheofferingsandthetithesandthe dedicatedthingsfaithfully:overwhichCononiahthe Levitewasruler,andShimeihisbrotherwasthenext 13AndJehiel,andAzaziah,andNahath,andAsahel,and Jerimoth,andJozabad,andEliel,andIsmachiah,and Mahath,andBenaiah,wereoverseersunderthehandof CononiahandShimeihisbrother,atthecommandmentof Hezekiahtheking,andAzariahtherulerofthehouseof God

14AndKorethesonofImnahtheLevite,theportertoward theeast,wasoverthefreewillofferingsofGod,to distributetheoblationsoftheLORD,andthemostholy things

15AndnexthimwereEden,andMiniamin,andJeshua, andShemaiah,Amariah,andShecaniah,inthecitiesofthe priests,intheirsetoffice,togivetotheirbrethrenby courses,aswelltothegreatastothesmall:

16Besidetheirgenealogyofmales,fromthreeyearsold andupward,evenuntoeveryonethatenterethintothe houseoftheLORD,hisdailyportionfortheirservicein theirchargesaccordingtotheircourses;

17Bothtothegenealogyofthepriestsbythehouseof theirfathers,andtheLevitesfromtwentyyearsoldand upward,intheirchargesbytheircourses;

18Andtothegenealogyofalltheirlittleones,theirwives, andtheirsons,andtheirdaughters,throughallthe congregation:forintheirsetofficetheysanctified themselvesinholiness:

19AlsoofthesonsofAaronthepriests,whichwereinthe fieldsofthesuburbsoftheircities,ineveryseveralcity, thementhatwereexpressedbyname,togiveportionsto allthemalesamongthepriests,andtoallthatwere reckonedbygenealogiesamongtheLevites

20AndthusdidHezekiahthroughoutallJudah,and wroughtthatwhichwasgoodandrightandtruthbeforethe LORDhisGod

21Andineveryworkthathebeganintheserviceofthe houseofGod,andinthelaw,andinthecommandments,to seekhisGod,hediditwithallhisheart,andprospered

CHAPTER32

1Afterthesethings,andtheestablishmentthereof, SennacheribkingofAssyriacame,andenteredintoJudah, andencampedagainstthefencedcities,andthoughttowin themforhimself.

2AndwhenHezekiahsawthatSennacheribwascome,and thathewaspurposedtofightagainstJerusalem,

3Hetookcounselwithhisprincesandhismightymento stopthewatersofthefountainswhichwerewithoutthe city:andtheydidhelphim

4Sotherewasgatheredmuchpeopletogether,who stoppedallthefountains,andthebrookthatranthrough themidstoftheland,saying,Whyshouldthekingsof Assyriacome,andfindmuchwater?

5Alsohestrengthenedhimself,andbuiltupallthewall thatwasbroken,andraisedituptothetowers,andanother wallwithout,andrepairedMillointhecityofDavid,and madedartsandshieldsinabundance.

6Andhesetcaptainsofwaroverthepeople,andgathered themtogethertohiminthestreetofthegateofthecity, andspakecomfortablytothem,saying,

7Bestrongandcourageous,benotafraidnordismayedfor thekingofAssyria,norforallthemultitudethatiswith him:fortherebemorewithusthanwithhim:

8Withhimisanarmofflesh;butwithusistheLORDour Godtohelpus,andtofightourbattlesAndthepeople restedthemselvesuponthewordsofHezekiahkingof Judah

9AfterthisdidSennacheribkingofAssyriasendhis servantstoJerusalem,(buthehimselflaidsiegeagainst Lachish,andallhispowerwithhim,)untoHezekiahking ofJudah,anduntoallJudahthatwereatJerusalem,saying, 10ThussaithSennacheribkingofAssyria,Whereondoye trust,thatyeabideinthesiegeinJerusalem?

11DothnotHezekiahpersuadeyoutogiveover yourselvestodiebyfamineandbythirst,saying,The LORDourGodshalldeliverusoutofthehandoftheking ofAssyria?

12HathnotthesameHezekiahtakenawayhishighplaces andhisaltars,andcommandedJudahandJerusalem, saying,Yeshallworshipbeforeonealtar,andburnincense uponit?

13KnowyenotwhatIandmyfathershavedoneuntoall thepeopleofotherlands?werethegodsofthenationsof thoselandsanywaysabletodelivertheirlandsoutofmine hand?

14Whowasthereamongallthegodsofthosenationsthat myfathersutterlydestroyed,thatcoulddeliverhispeople outofminehand,thatyourGodshouldbeabletodeliver yououtofminehand?

15NowthereforeletnotHezekiahdeceiveyou,nor persuadeyouonthismanner,neitheryetbelievehim:for nogodofanynationorkingdomwasabletodeliverhis peopleoutofminehand,andoutofthehandofmyfathers: howmuchlessshallyourGoddeliveryououtofmine hand?

16AndhisservantsspakeyetmoreagainsttheLORDGod, andagainsthisservantHezekiah

17HewrotealsoletterstorailontheLORDGodofIsrael, andtospeakagainsthim,saying,Asthegodsofthe nationsofotherlandshavenotdeliveredtheirpeopleoutof minehand,soshallnottheGodofHezekiahdeliverhis peopleoutofminehand

18ThentheycriedwithaloudvoiceintheJews'speech untothepeopleofJerusalemthatwereonthewall,to affrightthem,andtotroublethem;thattheymighttakethe city

19AndtheyspakeagainsttheGodofJerusalem,asagainst thegodsofthepeopleoftheearth,whichweretheworkof thehandsofman

20AndforthiscauseHezekiahtheking,andtheprophet IsaiahthesonofAmoz,prayedandcriedtoheaven

21AndtheLORDsentanangel,whichcutoffallthe mightymenofvalour,andtheleadersandcaptainsinthe campofthekingofAssyria.Sohereturnedwithshameof facetohisownlandAndwhenhewascomeintothe houseofhisgod,theythatcameforthofhisownbowels slewhimtherewiththesword.

23AndmanybroughtgiftsuntotheLORDtoJerusalem, andpresentstoHezekiahkingofJudah:sothathewas magnifiedinthesightofallnationsfromthenceforth 24InthosedaysHezekiahwassicktothedeath,and prayeduntotheLORD:andhespakeuntohim,andhe gavehimasign

25ButHezekiahrenderednotagainaccordingtothe benefitdoneuntohim;forhisheartwasliftedup:therefore therewaswrathuponhim,anduponJudahandJerusalem

26NotwithstandingHezekiahhumbledhimselfforthe prideofhisheart,bothheandtheinhabitantsofJerusalem, sothatthewrathoftheLORDcamenotupontheminthe daysofHezekiah

27AndHezekiahhadexceedingmuchrichesandhonour: andhemadehimselftreasuriesforsilver,andforgold,and forpreciousstones,andforspices,andforshields,andfor allmannerofpleasantjewels;

28Storehousesalsofortheincreaseofcorn,andwine,and oil;andstallsforallmannerofbeasts,andcotesforflocks

29Moreoverheprovidedhimcities,andpossessionsof flocksandherdsinabundance:forGodhadgivenhim substanceverymuch

30ThissameHezekiahalsostoppedtheupperwatercourse ofGihon,andbroughtitstraightdowntothewestsideof thecityofDavidAndHezekiahprosperedinallhisworks

31Howbeitinthebusinessoftheambassadorsofthe princesofBabylon,whosentuntohimtoenquireofthe wonderthatwasdoneintheland,Godlefthim,totryhim, thathemightknowallthatwasinhisheart.

32NowtherestoftheactsofHezekiah,andhisgoodness, behold,theyarewritteninthevisionofIsaiahtheprophet, thesonofAmoz,andinthebookofthekingsofJudahand Israel

33AndHezekiahsleptwithhisfathers,andtheyburied himinthechiefestofthesepulchresofthesonsofDavid: andallJudahandtheinhabitantsofJerusalemdidhim honourathisdeath.AndManassehhissonreignedinhis stead

CHAPTER33

1Manassehwastwelveyearsoldwhenhebegantoreign, andhereignedfiftyandfiveyearsinJerusalem: 2ButdidthatwhichwasevilinthesightoftheLORD, likeuntotheabominationsoftheheathen,whomthe LORDhadcastoutbeforethechildrenofIsrael.

3ForhebuiltagainthehighplaceswhichHezekiahhis fatherhadbrokendown,andherearedupaltarsforBaalim, andmadegroves,andworshippedallthehostofheaven, andservedthem

4AlsohebuiltaltarsinthehouseoftheLORD,whereof theLORDhadsaid,InJerusalemshallmynamebefor ever

5Andhebuiltaltarsforallthehostofheaveninthetwo courtsofthehouseoftheLORD.

6Andhecausedhischildrentopassthroughthefireinthe valleyofthesonofHinnom:alsoheobservedtimes,and usedenchantments,andusedwitchcraft,anddealtwitha familiarspirit,andwithwizards:hewroughtmuchevilin thesightoftheLORD,toprovokehimtoanger

7Andhesetacarvedimage,theidolwhichhehadmade, inthehouseofGod,ofwhichGodhadsaidtoDavidandto Solomonhisson,Inthishouse,andinJerusalem,whichI havechosenbeforeallthetribesofIsrael,willIputmy nameforever:

8NeitherwillIanymoreremovethefootofIsraelfrom outofthelandwhichIhaveappointedforyourfathers;so thattheywilltakeheedtodoallthatIhavecommanded them,accordingtothewholelawandthestatutesandthe ordinancesbythehandofMoses.

9SoManassehmadeJudahandtheinhabitantsof Jerusalemtoerr,andtodoworsethantheheathen,whom theLORDhaddestroyedbeforethechildrenofIsrael.

10AndtheLORDspaketoManasseh,andtohispeople: buttheywouldnothearken

11WhereforetheLORDbroughtuponthemthecaptains ofthehostofthekingofAssyria,whichtookManasseh amongthethorns,andboundhimwithfetters,andcarried himtoBabylon.

12Andwhenhewasinaffliction,hebesoughttheLORD hisGod,andhumbledhimselfgreatlybeforetheGodofhis fathers,

13Andprayeduntohim:andhewasintreatedofhim,and heardhissupplication,andbroughthimagaintoJerusalem intohiskingdom.ThenManassehknewthattheLORDhe wasGod

14NowafterthishebuiltawallwithoutthecityofDavid, onthewestsideofGihon,inthevalley,eventothe enteringinatthefishgate,andcompassedaboutOphel, andraiseditupaverygreatheight,andputcaptainsofwar inallthefencedcitiesofJudah.

15Andhetookawaythestrangegods,andtheidoloutof thehouseoftheLORD,andallthealtarsthathehadbuilt inthemountofthehouseoftheLORD,andinJerusalem, andcastthemoutofthecity

16AndherepairedthealtaroftheLORD,andsacrificed thereonpeaceofferingsandthankofferings,and commandedJudahtoservetheLORDGodofIsrael

17Neverthelessthepeopledidsacrificestillinthehigh places,yetuntotheLORDtheirGodonly

18NowtherestoftheactsofManasseh,andhisprayer untohisGod,andthewordsoftheseersthatspaketohim inthenameoftheLORDGodofIsrael,behold,theyare writteninthebookofthekingsofIsrael

19Hisprayeralso,andhowGodwasintreatedofhim,and allhissin,andhistrespass,andtheplaceswhereinhebuilt highplaces,andsetupgrovesandgravenimages,before hewashumbled:behold,theyarewrittenamongthe sayingsoftheseers

20SoManassehsleptwithhisfathers,andtheyburiedhim inhisownhouse:andAmonhissonreignedinhisstead.

21Amonwastwoandtwentyyearsoldwhenhebeganto reign,andreignedtwoyearsinJerusalem

22ButhedidthatwhichwasevilinthesightoftheLORD, asdidManassehhisfather:forAmonsacrificeduntoall thecarvedimageswhichManassehhisfatherhadmade, andservedthem;

23AndhumblednothimselfbeforetheLORD,as Manassehhisfatherhadhumbledhimself;butAmon trespassedmoreandmore

24Andhisservantsconspiredagainsthim,andslewhimin hisownhouse.

25Butthepeopleofthelandslewallthemthathad conspiredagainstkingAmon;andthepeopleoftheland madeJosiahhissonkinginhisstead

CHAPTER34

1Josiahwaseightyearsoldwhenhebegantoreign,and hereignedinJerusalemoneandthirtyyears.

2AndhedidthatwhichwasrightinthesightoftheLORD, andwalkedinthewaysofDavidhisfather,anddeclined neithertotherighthand,nortotheleft.

3Forintheeighthyearofhisreign,whilehewasyet young,hebegantoseekaftertheGodofDavidhisfather: andinthetwelfthyearhebegantopurgeJudahand Jerusalemfromthehighplaces,andthegroves,andthe carvedimages,andthemoltenimages

4AndtheybrakedownthealtarsofBaaliminhispresence; andtheimages,thatwereonhighabovethem,hecutdown; andthegroves,andthecarvedimages,andthemolten images,hebrakeinpieces,andmadedustofthem,and strowedituponthegravesofthemthathadsacrificedunto them

5Andheburntthebonesofthepriestsupontheiraltars, andcleansedJudahandJerusalem

6AndsodidheinthecitiesofManasseh,andEphraim, andSimeon,evenuntoNaphtali,withtheirmattocksround about

7Andwhenhehadbrokendownthealtarsandthegroves, andhadbeatenthegravenimagesintopowder,andcut downalltheidolsthroughoutallthelandofIsrael,he returnedtoJerusalem.

8Nowintheeighteenthyearofhisreign,whenhehad purgedtheland,andthehouse,hesentShaphanthesonof Azaliah,andMaaseiahthegovernorofthecity,andJoah thesonofJoahaztherecorder,torepairthehouseofthe LORDhisGod

9AndwhentheycametoHilkiahthehighpriest,they deliveredthemoneythatwasbroughtintothehouseof God,whichtheLevitesthatkeptthedoorshadgatheredof thehandofManassehandEphraim,andofalltheremnant ofIsrael,andofallJudahandBenjamin;andtheyreturned toJerusalem

10Andtheyputitinthehandoftheworkmenthathadthe oversightofthehouseoftheLORD,andtheygaveittothe workmenthatwroughtinthehouseoftheLORD,torepair andamendthehouse:

11Eventotheartificersandbuildersgavetheyit,tobuy hewnstone,andtimberforcouplings,andtofloorthe houseswhichthekingsofJudahhaddestroyed.

12Andthemendidtheworkfaithfully:andtheoverseers ofthemwereJahathandObadiah,theLevites,ofthesons ofMerari;andZechariahandMeshullam,ofthesonsofthe Kohathites,tosetitforward;andotheroftheLevites,all thatcouldskillofinstrumentsofmusick

13Alsotheywereoverthebearersofburdens,andwere overseersofallthatwroughttheworkinanymannerof service:andoftheLevitestherewerescribes,andofficers, andporters

14Andwhentheybroughtoutthemoneythatwasbrought intothehouseoftheLORD,Hilkiahthepriestfounda bookofthelawoftheLORDgivenbyMoses 15AndHilkiahansweredandsaidtoShaphanthescribe,I havefoundthebookofthelawinthehouseoftheLORD. AndHilkiahdeliveredthebooktoShaphan

16AndShaphancarriedthebooktotheking,andbrought thekingwordbackagain,saying,Allthatwascommitted tothyservants,theydoit

17Andtheyhavegatheredtogetherthemoneythatwas foundinthehouseoftheLORD,andhavedelivereditinto thehandoftheoverseers,andtothehandoftheworkmen

18ThenShaphanthescribetoldtheking,saying,Hilkiah thepriesthathgivenmeabookAndShaphanreadit beforetheking

19Anditcametopass,whenthekinghadheardthewords ofthelaw,thatherenthisclothes

20AndthekingcommandedHilkiah,andAhikamtheson ofShaphan,andAbdonthesonofMicah,andShaphanthe scribe,andAsaiahaservantoftheking's,saying, 21Go,enquireoftheLORDforme,andforthemthatare leftinIsraelandinJudah,concerningthewordsofthe bookthatisfound:forgreatisthewrathoftheLORDthat ispouredoutuponus,becauseourfathershavenotkept thewordoftheLORD,todoafterallthatiswritteninthis book

22AndHilkiah,andtheythatthekinghadappointed,went toHuldahtheprophetess,thewifeofShallumthesonof Tikvath,thesonofHasrah,keeperofthewardrobe;(now shedweltinJerusaleminthecollege:)andtheyspaketo hertothateffect.

23Andsheansweredthem,ThussaiththeLORDGodof Israel,Tellyethemanthatsentyoutome, 24ThussaiththeLORD,Behold,Iwillbringevilupon thisplace,andupontheinhabitantsthereof,evenallthe cursesthatarewritteninthebookwhichtheyhaveread beforethekingofJudah:

25Becausetheyhaveforsakenme,andhaveburned incenseuntoothergods,thattheymightprovokemeto angerwithalltheworksoftheirhands;thereforemywrath shallbepouredoutuponthisplace,andshallnotbe quenched

26AndasforthekingofJudah,whosentyoutoenquireof theLORD,soshallyesayuntohim,ThussaiththeLORD GodofIsraelconcerningthewordswhichthouhastheard; 27Becausethineheartwastender,andthoudidsthumble thyselfbeforeGod,whenthouheardesthiswordsagainst thisplace,andagainsttheinhabitantsthereof,and humbledstthyselfbeforeme,anddidstrendthyclothes, andweepbeforeme;Ihaveevenheardtheealso,saiththe LORD.

28Behold,Iwillgathertheetothyfathers,andthoushalt begatheredtothygraveinpeace,neithershallthineeyes seealltheevilthatIwillbringuponthisplace,andupon theinhabitantsofthesameSotheybroughtthekingword again

29Thenthekingsentandgatheredtogetheralltheelders ofJudahandJerusalem

30AndthekingwentupintothehouseoftheLORD,and allthemenofJudah,andtheinhabitantsofJerusalem,and thepriests,andtheLevites,andallthepeople,greatand small:andhereadintheirearsallthewordsofthebookof thecovenantthatwasfoundinthehouseoftheLORD.

31Andthekingstoodinhisplace,andmadeacovenant beforetheLORD,towalkaftertheLORD,andtokeephis commandments,andhistestimonies,andhisstatutes,with allhisheart,andwithallhissoul,toperformthewordsof thecovenantwhicharewritteninthisbook

32AndhecausedallthatwerepresentinJerusalemand BenjamintostandtoitAndtheinhabitantsofJerusalem didaccordingtothecovenantofGod,theGodoftheir fathers.

33AndJosiahtookawayalltheabominationsoutofallthe countriesthatpertainedtothechildrenofIsrael,andmade allthatwerepresentinIsraeltoserve,eventoservethe LORDtheirGodAndallhisdaystheydepartednotfrom followingtheLORD,theGodoftheirfathers

CHAPTER35

1MoreoverJosiahkeptapassoveruntotheLORDin Jerusalem:andtheykilledthepassoveronthefourteenth dayofthefirstmonth

2Andhesetthepriestsintheircharges,andencouraged themtotheserviceofthehouseoftheLORD,

3AndsaiduntotheLevitesthattaughtallIsrael,which wereholyuntotheLORD,Puttheholyarkinthehouse whichSolomonthesonofDavidkingofIsraeldidbuild;it shallnotbeaburdenuponyourshoulders:servenowthe LORDyourGod,andhispeopleIsrael,

4Andprepareyourselvesbythehousesofyourfathers, afteryourcourses,accordingtothewritingofDavidking ofIsrael,andaccordingtothewritingofSolomonhisson.

5Andstandintheholyplaceaccordingtothedivisionsof thefamiliesofthefathersofyourbrethrenthepeople,and afterthedivisionofthefamiliesoftheLevites.

6Sokillthepassover,andsanctifyyourselves,andprepare yourbrethren,thattheymaydoaccordingtothewordof theLORDbythehandofMoses.

7AndJosiahgavetothepeople,oftheflock,lambsand kids,allforthepassoverofferings,forallthatwerepresent, tothenumberofthirtythousand,andthreethousand bullocks:thesewereoftheking'ssubstance

8Andhisprincesgavewillinglyuntothepeople,tothe priests,andtotheLevites:HilkiahandZechariahand Jehiel,rulersofthehouseofGod,gaveuntothepriestsfor thepassoverofferingstwothousandandsixhundredsmall cattle,andthreehundredoxen

9Conaniahalso,andShemaiahandNethaneel,hisbrethren, andHashabiahandJeielandJozabad,chiefoftheLevites, gaveuntotheLevitesforpassoverofferingsfivethousand smallcattle,andfivehundredoxen

10Sotheservicewasprepared,andthepriestsstoodin theirplace,andtheLevitesintheircourses,accordingto theking'scommandment

11Andtheykilledthepassover,andthepriestssprinkled thebloodfromtheirhands,andtheLevitesflayedthem

12Andtheyremovedtheburntofferings,thattheymight giveaccordingtothedivisionsofthefamiliesofthepeople, toofferuntotheLORD,asitiswritteninthebookof MosesAndsodidtheywiththeoxen

13Andtheyroastedthepassoverwithfireaccordingtothe ordinance:buttheotherholyofferingssodtheyinpots, andincaldrons,andinpans,anddividedthemspeedily amongallthepeople

14Andafterwardtheymadereadyforthemselves,andfor thepriests:becausetheprieststhesonsofAaronwere busiedinofferingofburntofferingsandthefatuntilnight; thereforetheLevitespreparedforthemselves,andforthe prieststhesonsofAaron.

15AndthesingersthesonsofAsaphwereintheirplace, accordingtothecommandmentofDavid,andAsaph,and Heman,andJeduthuntheking'sseer;andtheporters waitedateverygate;theymightnotdepartfromtheir service;fortheirbrethrentheLevitespreparedforthem.

16SoalltheserviceoftheLORDwaspreparedthesame day,tokeepthepassover,andtoofferburntofferingsupon thealtaroftheLORD,accordingtothecommandmentof kingJosiah

17AndthechildrenofIsraelthatwerepresentkeptthe passoveratthattime,andthefeastofunleavenedbread sevendays

18AndtherewasnopassoverliketothatkeptinIsrael fromthedaysofSamueltheprophet;neitherdidallthe kingsofIsraelkeepsuchapassoverasJosiahkept,andthe priests,andtheLevites,andallJudahandIsraelthatwere present,andtheinhabitantsofJerusalem.

19IntheeighteenthyearofthereignofJosiahwasthis passoverkept

20Afterallthis,whenJosiahhadpreparedthetemple, NechokingofEgyptcameuptofightagainstCarchemish byEuphrates:andJosiahwentoutagainsthim

21Buthesentambassadorstohim,saying,WhathaveIto dowiththee,thoukingofJudah?Icomenotagainstthee thisday,butagainstthehousewherewithIhavewar:for Godcommandedmetomakehaste:forbeartheefrom meddlingwithGod,whoiswithme,thathedestroythee not

22NeverthelessJosiahwouldnotturnhisfacefromhim, butdisguisedhimself,thathemightfightwithhim,and hearkenednotuntothewordsofNechofromthemouthof God,andcametofightinthevalleyofMegiddo.

23AndthearchersshotatkingJosiah;andthekingsaidto hisservants,Havemeaway;forIamsorewounded.

24Hisservantsthereforetookhimoutofthatchariot,and puthiminthesecondchariotthathehad;andtheybrought himtoJerusalem,andhedied,andwasburiedinoneofthe sepulchresofhisfathersAndallJudahandJerusalem mournedforJosiah

25AndJeremiahlamentedforJosiah:andallthesinging menandthesingingwomenspakeofJosiahintheir lamentationstothisday,andmadethemanordinancein Israel:and,behold,theyarewritteninthelamentations.

26NowtherestoftheactsofJosiah,andhisgoodness, accordingtothatwhichwaswritteninthelawofthe LORD,

27Andhisdeeds,firstandlast,behold,theyarewrittenin thebookofthekingsofIsraelandJudah

CHAPTER36

1ThenthepeopleofthelandtookJehoahazthesonof Josiah,andmadehimkinginhisfather'ssteadinJerusalem

2Jehoahazwastwentyandthreeyearsoldwhenhebegan toreign,andhereignedthreemonthsinJerusalem 3AndthekingofEgyptputhimdownatJerusalem,and condemnedthelandinanhundredtalentsofsilveranda talentofgold.

4AndthekingofEgyptmadeEliakimhisbrotherking overJudahandJerusalem,andturnedhisnameto Jehoiakim.AndNechotookJehoahazhisbrother,and carriedhimtoEgypt.

5Jehoiakimwastwentyandfiveyearsoldwhenhebegan toreign,andhereignedelevenyearsinJerusalem:andhe didthatwhichwasevilinthesightoftheLORDhisGod 6AgainsthimcameupNebuchadnezzarkingofBabylon, andboundhiminfetters,tocarryhimtoBabylon.

7Nebuchadnezzaralsocarriedofthevesselsofthehouse oftheLORDtoBabylon,andputtheminhistempleat Babylon.

8NowtherestoftheactsofJehoiakim,andhis abominationswhichhedid,andthatwhichwasfoundin him,behold,theyarewritteninthebookofthekingsof IsraelandJudah:andJehoiachinhissonreignedinhis stead

9Jehoiachinwaseightyearsoldwhenhebegantoreign, andhereignedthreemonthsandtendaysinJerusalem:and hedidthatwhichwasevilinthesightoftheLORD

10Andwhentheyearwasexpired,kingNebuchadnezzar sent,andbroughthimtoBabylon,withthegoodlyvessels ofthehouseoftheLORD,andmadeZedekiahhisbrother kingoverJudahandJerusalem.

11Zedekiahwasoneandtwentyyearsoldwhenhebegan toreign,andreignedelevenyearsinJerusalem

12Andhedidthatwhichwasevilinthesightofthe LORDhisGod,andhumblednothimselfbeforeJeremiah theprophetspeakingfromthemouthoftheLORD

13AndhealsorebelledagainstkingNebuchadnezzar,who hadmadehimswearbyGod:buthestiffenedhisneck,and hardenedhisheartfromturninguntotheLORDGodof Israel.

14Moreoverallthechiefofthepriests,andthepeople, transgressedverymuchafteralltheabominationsofthe heathen;andpollutedthehouseoftheLORDwhichhehad hallowedinJerusalem

15AndtheLORDGodoftheirfatherssenttothembyhis messengers,risingupbetimes,andsending;becausehehad compassiononhispeople,andonhisdwellingplace:

16ButtheymockedthemessengersofGod,anddespised hiswords,andmisusedhisprophets,untilthewrathofthe LORDaroseagainsthispeople,tilltherewasnoremedy

17Thereforehebroughtuponthemthekingofthe Chaldees,whoslewtheiryoungmenwiththeswordinthe houseoftheirsanctuary,andhadnocompassionupon youngmanormaiden,oldman,orhimthatstoopedforage: hegavethemallintohishand

18AndallthevesselsofthehouseofGod,greatandsmall, andthetreasuresofthehouseoftheLORD,andthe treasuresoftheking,andofhisprinces;allthesehe broughttoBabylon

19AndtheyburntthehouseofGod,andbrakedownthe wallofJerusalem,andburntallthepalacesthereofwith fire,anddestroyedallthegoodlyvesselsthereof 20Andthemthathadescapedfromtheswordcarriedhe awaytoBabylon;wheretheywereservantstohimandhis sonsuntilthereignofthekingdomofPersia:

21TofulfilthewordoftheLORDbythemouthof Jeremiah,untilthelandhadenjoyedhersabbaths:foras longasshelaydesolateshekeptsabbath,tofulfil threescoreandtenyears

22NowinthefirstyearofCyruskingofPersia,thatthe wordoftheLORDspokenbythemouthofJeremiahmight beaccomplished,theLORDstirredupthespiritofCyrus kingofPersia,thathemadeaproclamationthroughoutall hiskingdom,andputitalsoinwriting,saying, 23ThussaithCyruskingofPersia,Allthekingdomsofthe earthhaththeLORDGodofheavengivenme;andhehath chargedmetobuildhimanhouseinJerusalem,whichisin JudahWhoisthereamongyouofallhispeople?The LORDhisGodbewithhim,andlethimgoup.
