1InthethirdyearofthereignofJehoiakimkingofJudah cameNebuchadnezzarkingofBabylonuntoJerusalem, andbesiegedit
2AndtheLordgaveJehoiakimkingofJudahintohishand, withpartofthevesselsofthehouseofGod:whichhe carriedintothelandofShinartothehouseofhisgod;and hebroughtthevesselsintothetreasurehouseofhisgod.
3AndthekingspakeuntoAshpenazthemasterofhis eunuchs,thatheshouldbringcertainofthechildrenof Israel,andoftheking'sseed,andoftheprinces;
4Childreninwhomwasnoblemish,butwellfavoured, andskilfulinallwisdom,andcunninginknowledge,and understandingscience,andsuchashadabilityinthemto standintheking'spalace,andwhomtheymightteachthe learningandthetongueoftheChaldeans
5Andthekingappointedthemadailyprovisionofthe king'smeat,andofthewinewhichhedrank:sonourishing themthreeyears,thatattheendthereoftheymightstand beforetheking.
6NowamongthesewereofthechildrenofJudah,Daniel, Hananiah,Mishael,andAzariah:
7Untowhomtheprinceoftheeunuchsgavenames:forhe gaveuntoDanielthenameofBelteshazzar;andto Hananiah,ofShadrach;andtoMishael,ofMeshach;andto Azariah,ofAbednego.
8ButDanielpurposedinhisheartthathewouldnotdefile himselfwiththeportionoftheking'smeat,norwiththe winewhichhedrank:thereforeherequestedoftheprince oftheeunuchsthathemightnotdefilehimself
9NowGodhadbroughtDanielintofavourandtenderlove withtheprinceoftheeunuchs.
10AndtheprinceoftheeunuchssaiduntoDaniel,Ifear mylordtheking,whohathappointedyourmeatandyour drink:forwhyshouldheseeyourfacesworselikingthan thechildrenwhichareofyoursort?thenshallyemakeme endangermyheadtotheking
11ThensaidDanieltoMelzar,whomtheprinceofthe eunuchshadsetoverDaniel,Hananiah,Mishael,and Azariah,
12Provethyservants,Ibeseechthee,tendays;andlet themgiveuspulsetoeat,andwatertodrink
13Thenletourcountenancesbelookeduponbeforethee, andthecountenanceofthechildrenthateatoftheportion oftheking'smeat:andasthouseest,dealwiththyservants
14Soheconsentedtotheminthismatter,andprovedthem tendays
15Andattheendoftendaystheircountenancesappeared fairerandfatterinfleshthanallthechildrenwhichdideat theportionoftheking'smeat
16ThusMelzartookawaytheportionoftheirmeat,and thewinethattheyshoulddrink;andgavethempulse.
17Asforthesefourchildren,Godgavethemknowledge andskillinalllearningandwisdom:andDanielhad understandinginallvisionsanddreams.
18Nowattheendofthedaysthatthekinghadsaidhe shouldbringthemin,thentheprinceoftheeunuchs broughttheminbeforeNebuchadnezzar.
19Andthekingcommunedwiththem;andamongthemall wasfoundnonelikeDaniel,Hananiah,Mishael,and Azariah:thereforestoodtheybeforetheking.
20Andinallmattersofwisdomandunderstanding,that thekingenquiredofthem,hefoundthemtentimesbetter thanallthemagiciansandastrologersthatwereinallhis realm
21AndDanielcontinuedevenuntothefirstyearofking Cyrus.
CHAPTER2
1AndinthesecondyearofthereignofNebuchadnezzar Nebuchadnezzardreameddreams,wherewithhisspiritwas troubled,andhissleepbrakefromhim.
2Thenthekingcommandedtocallthemagicians,andthe astrologers,andthesorcerers,andtheChaldeans,forto shewthekinghisdreams.Sotheycameandstoodbefore theking
3Andthekingsaiduntothem,Ihavedreamedadream, andmyspiritwastroubledtoknowthedream.
4ThenspaketheChaldeanstothekinginSyriack,Oking, liveforever:tellthyservantsthedream,andwewillshew theinterpretation.
5ThekingansweredandsaidtotheChaldeans,Thething isgonefromme:ifyewillnotmakeknownuntomethe dream,withtheinterpretationthereof,yeshallbecutin pieces,andyourhousesshallbemadeadunghill 6Butifyeshewthedream,andtheinterpretationthereof, yeshallreceiveofmegiftsandrewardsandgreathonour: thereforeshewmethedream,andtheinterpretationthereof 7Theyansweredagainandsaid,Letthekingtellhis servantsthedream,andwewillshewtheinterpretationof it
8Thekingansweredandsaid,Iknowofcertaintythatye wouldgainthetime,becauseyeseethethingisgonefrom me
9Butifyewillnotmakeknownuntomethedream,there isbutonedecreeforyou:foryehavepreparedlyingand corruptwordstospeakbeforeme,tillthetimebechanged: thereforetellmethedream,andIshallknowthatyecan shewmetheinterpretationthereof
10TheChaldeansansweredbeforetheking,andsaid, Thereisnotamanupontheearththatcanshewtheking's matter:thereforethereisnoking,lord,norruler,thatasked suchthingsatanymagician,orastrologer,orChaldean 11Anditisararethingthatthekingrequireth,andthereis noneotherthatcanshewitbeforetheking,exceptthegods, whosedwellingisnotwithflesh
12Forthiscausethekingwasangryandveryfurious,and commandedtodestroyallthewisemenofBabylon
13Andthedecreewentforththatthewisemenshouldbe slain;andtheysoughtDanielandhisfellowstobeslain.
14ThenDanielansweredwithcounselandwisdomto Ariochthecaptainoftheking'sguard,whichwasgone forthtoslaythewisemenofBabylon:
15HeansweredandsaidtoAriochtheking'scaptain,Why isthedecreesohastyfromtheking?ThenAriochmadethe thingknowntoDaniel.
16ThenDanielwentin,anddesiredofthekingthathe wouldgivehimtime,andthathewouldshewthekingthe interpretation.
17ThenDanielwenttohishouse,andmadethething knowntoHananiah,Mishael,andAzariah,hiscompanions: 18ThattheywoulddesiremerciesoftheGodofheaven concerningthissecret;thatDanielandhisfellowsshould notperishwiththerestofthewisemenofBabylon.
19ThenwasthesecretrevealeduntoDanielinanight visionThenDanielblessedtheGodofheaven 20Danielansweredandsaid,BlessedbethenameofGod foreverandever:forwisdomandmightarehis:
21Andhechangeththetimesandtheseasons:heremoveth kings,andsettethupkings:hegivethwisdomuntothewise, andknowledgetothemthatknowunderstanding:
22Herevealeththedeepandsecretthings:heknoweth whatisinthedarkness,andthelightdwellethwithhim
23Ithankthee,andpraisethee,OthouGodofmyfathers, whohastgivenmewisdomandmight,andhastmade knownuntomenowwhatwedesiredofthee:forthouhast nowmadeknownuntoustheking'smatter
24ThereforeDanielwentinuntoArioch,whomtheking hadordainedtodestroythewisemenofBabylon:hewent andsaidthusuntohim;Destroynotthewisemenof Babylon:bringmeinbeforetheking,andIwillshewunto thekingtheinterpretation
25ThenAriochbroughtinDanielbeforethekinginhaste, andsaidthusuntohim,Ihavefoundamanofthecaptives ofJudah,thatwillmakeknownuntothekingthe interpretation
26ThekingansweredandsaidtoDaniel,whosenamewas Belteshazzar,Artthouabletomakeknownuntomethe dreamwhichIhaveseen,andtheinterpretationthereof?
27Danielansweredinthepresenceoftheking,andsaid, Thesecretwhichthekinghathdemandedcannotthewise men,theastrologers,themagicians,thesoothsayers,shew untotheking;
28ButthereisaGodinheaventhatrevealethsecrets,and makethknowntothekingNebuchadnezzarwhatshallbein thelatterdays.Thydream,andthevisionsofthyhead uponthybed,arethese;
29Asforthee,Oking,thythoughtscameintothymind uponthybed,whatshouldcometopasshereafter:andhe thatrevealethsecretsmakethknowntotheewhatshall cometopass
30Butasforme,thissecretisnotrevealedtomeforany wisdomthatIhavemorethananyliving,butfortheirsakes thatshallmakeknowntheinterpretationtotheking,and thatthoumightestknowthethoughtsofthyheart.
31Thou,Oking,sawest,andbeholdagreatimageThis greatimage,whosebrightnesswasexcellent,stoodbefore thee;andtheformthereofwasterrible
32Thisimage'sheadwasoffinegold,hisbreastandhis armsofsilver,hisbellyandhisthighsofbrass,
33Hislegsofiron,hisfeetpartofironandpartofclay.
34Thousawesttillthatastonewascutoutwithouthands, whichsmotetheimageuponhisfeetthatwereofironand clay,andbrakethemtopieces
35Thenwastheiron,theclay,thebrass,thesilver,andthe gold,brokentopiecestogether,andbecamelikethechaff ofthesummerthreshingfloors;andthewindcarriedthem away,thatnoplacewasfoundforthem:andthestonethat smotetheimagebecameagreatmountain,andfilledthe wholeearth
36Thisisthedream;andwewilltelltheinterpretation thereofbeforetheking.
37Thou,Oking,artakingofkings:fortheGodofheaven hathgiventheeakingdom,power,andstrength,andglory.
38Andwheresoeverthechildrenofmendwell,thebeasts ofthefieldandthefowlsoftheheavenhathhegiveninto thinehand,andhathmadetheeruleroverthemallThou artthisheadofgold.
39Andaftertheeshallariseanotherkingdominferiorto thee,andanotherthirdkingdomofbrass,whichshallbear ruleoveralltheearth
40Andthefourthkingdomshallbestrongasiron: forasmuchasironbreakethinpiecesandsubduethall things:andasironthatbreakethallthese,shallitbreakin piecesandbruise
41Andwhereasthousawestthefeetandtoes,partof potters'clay,andpartofiron,thekingdomshallbedivided; butthereshallbeinitofthestrengthoftheiron,forasmuch asthousawesttheironmixedwithmiryclay.
42Andasthetoesofthefeetwerepartofiron,andpartof clay,sothekingdomshallbepartlystrong,andpartly broken.
43Andwhereasthousawestironmixedwithmiryclay, theyshallminglethemselveswiththeseedofmen:but theyshallnotcleaveonetoanother,evenasironisnot mixedwithclay
44AndinthedaysofthesekingsshalltheGodofheaven setupakingdom,whichshallneverbedestroyed:andthe kingdomshallnotbelefttootherpeople,butitshallbreak inpiecesandconsumeallthesekingdoms,anditshall standforever.
45Forasmuchasthousawestthatthestonewascutoutof themountainwithouthands,andthatitbrakeinpiecesthe iron,thebrass,theclay,thesilver,andthegold;thegreat Godhathmadeknowntothekingwhatshallcometopass hereafter:andthedreamiscertain,andtheinterpretation thereofsure.
46ThenthekingNebuchadnezzarfelluponhisface,and worshippedDaniel,andcommandedthattheyshouldoffer anoblationandsweetodoursuntohim.
47ThekinganswereduntoDaniel,andsaid,Ofatruthitis, thatyourGodisaGodofgods,andaLordofkings,anda revealerofsecrets,seeingthoucouldestrevealthissecret.
48ThenthekingmadeDanielagreatman,andgavehim manygreatgifts,andmadehimruleroverthewhole provinceofBabylon,andchiefofthegovernorsoverall thewisemenofBabylon
49ThenDanielrequestedoftheking,andhesetShadrach, Meshach,andAbednego,overtheaffairsoftheprovinceof Babylon:butDanielsatinthegateoftheking
CHAPTER3
1Nebuchadnezzarthekingmadeanimageofgold,whose heightwasthreescorecubits,andthebreadththereofsix cubits:hesetitupintheplainofDura,intheprovinceof Babylon.
2ThenNebuchadnezzarthekingsenttogathertogetherthe princes,thegovernors,andthecaptains,thejudges,the treasurers,thecounsellors,thesheriffs,andalltherulersof theprovinces,tocometothededicationoftheimage whichNebuchadnezzarthekinghadsetup
3Thentheprinces,thegovernors,andcaptains,thejudges, thetreasurers,thecounsellors,thesheriffs,andallthe rulersoftheprovinces,weregatheredtogetheruntothe dedicationoftheimagethatNebuchadnezzarthekinghad setup;andtheystoodbeforetheimagethat Nebuchadnezzarhadsetup
4Thenanheraldcriedaloud,Toyouitiscommanded,O people,nations,andlanguages,
5Thatatwhattimeyehearthesoundofthecornet,flute, harp,sackbut,psaltery,dulcimer,andallkindsofmusick, yefalldownandworshipthegoldenimagethat Nebuchadnezzarthekinghathsetup:
6Andwhosofallethnotdownandworshippethshallthe samehourbecastintothemidstofaburningfieryfurnace
7Thereforeatthattime,whenallthepeopleheardthe soundofthecornet,flute,harp,sackbut,psaltery,andall kindsofmusick,allthepeople,thenations,andthe languages,felldownandworshippedthegoldenimagethat Nebuchadnezzarthekinghadsetup.
8WhereforeatthattimecertainChaldeanscamenear,and accusedtheJews
9TheyspakeandsaidtothekingNebuchadnezzar,Oking, liveforever
10Thou,Oking,hastmadeadecree,thateverymanthat shallhearthesoundofthecornet,flute,harp,sackbut, psaltery,anddulcimer,andallkindsofmusick,shallfall downandworshipthegoldenimage:
11Andwhosofallethnotdownandworshippeth,thathe shouldbecastintothemidstofaburningfieryfurnace
12TherearecertainJewswhomthouhastsetoverthe affairsoftheprovinceofBabylon,Shadrach,Meshach,and Abednego;thesemen,Oking,havenotregardedthee:they servenotthygods,norworshipthegoldenimagewhich thouhastsetup.
13ThenNebuchadnezzarinhisrageandfurycommanded tobringShadrach,Meshach,andAbednegoThenthey broughtthesemenbeforetheking.
14Nebuchadnezzarspakeandsaiduntothem,Isittrue,O Shadrach,Meshach,andAbednego,donotyeservemy gods,norworshipthegoldenimagewhichIhavesetup?
15Nowifyebereadythatatwhattimeyehearthesound ofthecornet,flute,harp,sackbut,psaltery,anddulcimer, andallkindsofmusick,yefalldownandworshipthe imagewhichIhavemade;well:butifyeworshipnot,ye shallbecastthesamehourintothemidstofaburningfiery furnace;andwhoisthatGodthatshalldeliveryououtof myhands?
16Shadrach,Meshach,andAbednego,answeredandsaid totheking,ONebuchadnezzar,wearenotcarefulto answertheeinthismatter
17Ifitbeso,ourGodwhomweserveisabletodeliverus fromtheburningfieryfurnace,andhewilldeliverusoutof thinehand,Oking
18Butifnot,beitknownuntothee,Oking,thatwewill notservethygods,norworshipthegoldenimagewhich thouhastsetup
19ThenwasNebuchadnezzarfulloffury,andtheformof hisvisagewaschangedagainstShadrach,Meshach,and Abednego:thereforehespake,andcommandedthatthey shouldheatthefurnaceoneseventimesmorethanitwas wonttobeheated
20Andhecommandedthemostmightymenthatwerein hisarmytobindShadrach,Meshach,andAbednego,andto castthemintotheburningfieryfurnace
21Thenthesemenwereboundintheircoats,theirhosen, andtheirhats,andtheirothergarments,andwerecastinto themidstoftheburningfieryfurnace
22Thereforebecausetheking'scommandmentwasurgent, andthefurnaceexceedinghot,theflameofthefireslew thosementhattookupShadrach,Meshach,andAbednego 23Andthesethreemen,Shadrach,Meshach,and Abednego,felldownboundintothemidstoftheburning fieryfurnace
24ThenNebuchadnezzarthekingwasastonied,androse upinhaste,andspake,andsaiduntohiscounsellors,Did notwecastthreemenboundintothemidstofthefire? Theyansweredandsaiduntotheking,True,Oking.
25Heansweredandsaid,Lo,Iseefourmenloose, walkinginthemidstofthefire,andtheyhavenohurt;and theformofthefourthisliketheSonofGod.
26ThenNebuchadnezzarcameneartothemouthofthe burningfieryfurnace,andspake,andsaid,Shadrach, Meshach,andAbednego,yeservantsofthemosthighGod, comeforth,andcomehitherThenShadrach,Meshach,and Abednego,cameforthofthemidstofthefire
27Andtheprinces,governors,andcaptains,andtheking's counsellors,beinggatheredtogether,sawthesemen,upon whosebodiesthefirehadnopower,norwasanhairof theirheadsinged,neitherweretheircoatschanged,northe smelloffirehadpassedonthem
28ThenNebuchadnezzarspake,andsaid,Blessedbethe GodofShadrach,Meshach,andAbednego,whohathsent hisangel,anddeliveredhisservantsthattrustedinhim, andhavechangedtheking'sword,andyieldedtheirbodies, thattheymightnotservenorworshipanygod,excepttheir ownGod
29ThereforeImakeadecree,Thateverypeople,nation, andlanguage,whichspeakanythingamissagainsttheGod ofShadrach,Meshach,andAbednego,shallbecutin pieces,andtheirhousesshallbemadeadunghill:because thereisnootherGodthatcandeliverafterthissort.
30ThenthekingpromotedShadrach,Meshach,and Abednego,intheprovinceofBabylon
CHAPTER4
1Nebuchadnezzartheking,untoallpeople,nations,and languages,thatdwellinalltheearth;Peacebemultiplied untoyou.
2Ithoughtitgoodtoshewthesignsandwondersthatthe highGodhathwroughttowardme
3Howgreatarehissigns!andhowmightyarehiswonders! hiskingdomisaneverlastingkingdom,andhisdominionis fromgenerationtogeneration
4INebuchadnezzarwasatrestinminehouse,and flourishinginmypalace:
5Isawadreamwhichmademeafraid,andthethoughts uponmybedandthevisionsofmyheadtroubledme.
6ThereforemadeIadecreetobringinallthewisemenof Babylonbeforeme,thattheymightmakeknownuntome theinterpretationofthedream.
7Thencameinthemagicians,theastrologers,the Chaldeans,andthesoothsayers:andItoldthedreambefore
them;buttheydidnotmakeknownuntomethe interpretationthereof.
8ButatthelastDanielcameinbeforeme,whosename wasBelteshazzar,accordingtothenameofmygod,andin whomisthespiritoftheholygods:andbeforehimItold thedream,saying,
9OBelteshazzar,masterofthemagicians,becauseIknow thatthespiritoftheholygodsisinthee,andnosecret troubleththee,tellmethevisionsofmydreamthatIhave seen,andtheinterpretationthereof
10Thuswerethevisionsofmineheadinmybed;Isaw, andbeholdatreeinthemidstoftheearth,andtheheight thereofwasgreat.
11Thetreegrew,andwasstrong,andtheheightthereof reacheduntoheaven,andthesightthereoftotheendofall theearth:
12Theleavesthereofwerefair,andthefruitthereofmuch, andinitwasmeatforall:thebeastsofthefieldhad shadowunderit,andthefowlsoftheheavendweltinthe boughsthereof,andallfleshwasfedofit
13Isawinthevisionsofmyheaduponmybed,and, behold,awatcherandanholyonecamedownfromheaven; 14Hecriedaloud,andsaidthus,Hewdownthetree,and cutoffhisbranches,shakeoffhisleaves,andscatterhis fruit:letthebeastsgetawayfromunderit,andthefowls fromhisbranches:
15Neverthelessleavethestumpofhisrootsintheearth, evenwithabandofironandbrass,inthetendergrassof thefield;andletitbewetwiththedewofheaven,andlet hisportionbewiththebeastsinthegrassoftheearth:
16Lethisheartbechangedfromman's,andletabeast's heartbegivenuntohim;andletseventimespassoverhim 17Thismatterisbythedecreeofthewatchers,andthe demandbythewordoftheholyones:totheintentthatthe livingmayknowthatthemostHighrulethinthekingdom ofmen,andgivethittowhomsoeverhewill,andsettethup overitthebasestofmen.
18ThisdreamIkingNebuchadnezzarhaveseenNow thou,OBelteshazzar,declaretheinterpretationthereof, forasmuchasallthewisemenofmykingdomarenotable tomakeknownuntometheinterpretation:butthouartable; forthespiritoftheholygodsisinthee
19ThenDaniel,whosenamewasBelteshazzar,was astoniedforonehour,andhisthoughtstroubledhimThe kingspake,andsaid,Belteshazzar,letnotthedream,orthe interpretationthereof,troublethee.Belteshazzaranswered andsaid,Mylord,thedreambetothemthathatethee,and theinterpretationthereoftothineenemies.
20Thetreethatthousawest,whichgrew,andwasstrong, whoseheightreacheduntotheheaven,andthesight thereoftoalltheearth;
21Whoseleaveswerefair,andthefruitthereofmuch,and initwasmeatforall;underwhichthebeastsofthefield dwelt,anduponwhosebranchesthefowlsoftheheaven hadtheirhabitation:
22Itisthou,Oking,thatartgrownandbecomestrong:for thygreatnessisgrown,andreachethuntoheaven,andthy dominiontotheendoftheearth
23Andwhereasthekingsawawatcherandanholyone comingdownfromheaven,andsaying,Hewthetreedown, anddestroyit;yetleavethestumpoftherootsthereofin theearth,evenwithabandofironandbrass,inthetender
grassofthefield;andletitbewetwiththedewofheaven, andlethisportionbewiththebeastsofthefield,tillseven timespassoverhim;
24Thisistheinterpretation,Oking,andthisisthedecree ofthemostHigh,whichiscomeuponmylordtheking: 25Thattheyshalldrivetheefrommen,andthydwelling shallbewiththebeastsofthefield,andtheyshallmake theetoeatgrassasoxen,andtheyshallwettheewiththe dewofheaven,andseventimesshallpassoverthee,till thouknowthatthemostHighrulethinthekingdomofmen, andgivethittowhomsoeverhewill
26Andwhereastheycommandedtoleavethestumpofthe treeroots;thykingdomshallbesureuntothee,afterthat thoushalthaveknownthattheheavensdorule
27Wherefore,Oking,letmycounselbeacceptableunto thee,andbreakoffthysinsbyrighteousness,andthine iniquitiesbyshewingmercytothepoor;ifitmaybea lengtheningofthytranquillity
28AllthiscameuponthekingNebuchadnezzar.
29Attheendoftwelvemonthshewalkedinthepalaceof thekingdomofBabylon
30Thekingspake,andsaid,IsnotthisgreatBabylon,that Ihavebuiltforthehouseofthekingdombythemightof mypower,andforthehonourofmymajesty?
31Whilethewordwasintheking'smouth,therefella voicefromheaven,saying,OkingNebuchadnezzar,to theeitisspoken;Thekingdomisdepartedfromthee 32Andtheyshalldrivetheefrommen,andthydwelling shallbewiththebeastsofthefield:theyshallmaketheeto eatgrassasoxen,andseventimesshallpassoverthee, untilthouknowthatthemostHighrulethinthekingdom ofmen,andgivethittowhomsoeverhewill
33Thesamehourwasthethingfulfilledupon Nebuchadnezzar:andhewasdrivenfrommen,anddideat grassasoxen,andhisbodywaswetwiththedewof heaven,tillhishairsweregrownlikeeagles'feathers,and hisnailslikebirds'claws.
34AndattheendofthedaysINebuchadnezzarliftedup mineeyesuntoheaven,andmineunderstandingreturned untome,andIblessedthemostHigh,andIpraisedand honouredhimthatlivethforever,whosedominionisan everlastingdominion,andhiskingdomisfromgeneration togeneration:
35Andalltheinhabitantsoftheeartharereputedas nothing:andhedoethaccordingtohiswillinthearmyof heaven,andamongtheinhabitantsoftheearth:andnone canstayhishand,orsayuntohim,Whatdoestthou?
36Atthesametimemyreasonreturneduntome;andfor thegloryofmykingdom,minehonourandbrightness returneduntome;andmycounsellorsandmylordssought untome;andIwasestablishedinmykingdom,and excellentmajestywasaddeduntome.
37NowINebuchadnezzarpraiseandextolandhonourthe Kingofheaven,allwhoseworksaretruth,andhisways judgment:andthosethatwalkinprideheisabletoabase
CHAPTER5
1Belshazzarthekingmadeagreatfeasttoathousandof hislords,anddrankwinebeforethethousand.
2Belshazzar,whileshetastedthewine,commandedto bringthegoldenandsilvervesselswhichhisfather
Nebuchadnezzarhadtakenoutofthetemplewhichwasin Jerusalem;thattheking,andhisprinces,hiswives,andhis concubines,mightdrinktherein

5ThenIliftedupmineeyes,andlooked,andbeholda certainmanclothedinlinen,whoseloinsweregirdedwith finegoldofUphaz:
6Hisbodyalsowasliketheberyl,andhisfaceasthe appearanceoflightning,andhiseyesaslampsoffire,and hisarmsandhisfeetlikeincolourtopolishedbrass,and thevoiceofhiswordslikethevoiceofamultitude
7AndIDanielalonesawthevision:forthementhatwere withmesawnotthevision;butagreatquakingfellupon them,sothattheyfledtohidethemselves
8ThereforeIwasleftalone,andsawthisgreatvision,and thereremainednostrengthinme:formycomelinesswas turnedinmeintocorruption,andIretainednostrength
9YetheardIthevoiceofhiswords:andwhenIheardthe voiceofhiswords,thenwasIinadeepsleeponmyface, andmyfacetowardtheground.
10And,behold,anhandtouchedme,whichsetmeupon mykneesanduponthepalmsofmyhands
11Andhesaiduntome,ODaniel,amangreatlybeloved, understandthewordsthatIspeakuntothee,andstand upright:foruntotheeamInowsentAndwhenhehad spokenthisworduntome,Istoodtrembling
12Thensaidheuntome,Fearnot,Daniel:forfromthe firstdaythatthoudidstsetthinehearttounderstand,andto chastenthyselfbeforethyGod,thywordswereheard,and Iamcomeforthywords
13ButtheprinceofthekingdomofPersiawithstoodme oneandtwentydays:but,lo,Michael,oneofthechief princes,cametohelpme;andIremainedtherewiththe kingsofPersia
14NowIamcometomaketheeunderstandwhatshall befallthypeopleinthelatterdays:foryetthevisionisfor manydays
15Andwhenhehadspokensuchwordsuntome,Isetmy facetowardtheground,andIbecamedumb.
16And,behold,onelikethesimilitudeofthesonsofmen touchedmylips:thenIopenedmymouth,andspake,and saiduntohimthatstoodbeforeme,Omylord,bythe visionmysorrowsareturneduponme,andIhaveretained nostrength
17Forhowcantheservantofthismylordtalkwiththis mylord?forasforme,straightwaythereremainedno strengthinme,neitheristherebreathleftinme.
18Thentherecameagainandtouchedmeonelikethe appearanceofaman,andhestrengthenedme,
19Andsaid,Omangreatlybeloved,fearnot:peacebe untothee,bestrong,yea,bestrongAndwhenhehad spokenuntome,Iwasstrengthened,andsaid,Letmylord speak;forthouhaststrengthenedme.
20Thensaidhe,KnowestthouwhereforeIcomeuntothee? andnowwillIreturntofightwiththeprinceofPersia:and whenIamgoneforth,lo,theprinceofGreciashallcome.
21ButIwillshewtheethatwhichisnotedinthescripture oftruth:andthereisnonethatholdethwithmeinthese things,butMichaelyourprince.
CHAPTER11
1AlsoIinthefirstyearofDariustheMede,evenI,stood toconfirmandtostrengthenhim
2AndnowwillIshewtheethetruth.Behold,thereshall standupyetthreekingsinPersia;andthefourthshallbe farricherthantheyall:andbyhisstrengththroughhis richesheshallstirupallagainsttherealmofGrecia.
3Andamightykingshallstandup,thatshallrulewith greatdominion,anddoaccordingtohiswill
4Andwhenheshallstandup,hiskingdomshallbebroken, andshallbedividedtowardthefourwindsofheaven;and nottohisposterity,noraccordingtohisdominionwhich heruled:forhiskingdomshallbepluckedup,evenfor othersbesidethose
5Andthekingofthesouthshallbestrong,andoneofhis princes;andheshallbestrongabovehim,andhave dominion;hisdominionshallbeagreatdominion
6Andintheendofyearstheyshalljointhemselves together;fortheking'sdaughterofthesouthshallcometo thekingofthenorthtomakeanagreement:butsheshall notretainthepowerofthearm;neithershallhestand,nor hisarm:butsheshallbegivenup,andtheythatbrought her,andhethatbegather,andhethatstrengthenedherin thesetimes
7Butoutofabranchofherrootsshallonestandupinhis estate,whichshallcomewithanarmy,andshallenterinto thefortressofthekingofthenorth,andshalldealagainst them,andshallprevail:
8AndshallalsocarrycaptivesintoEgypttheirgods,with theirprinces,andwiththeirpreciousvesselsofsilverand ofgold;andheshallcontinuemoreyearsthanthekingof thenorth
9Sothekingofthesouthshallcomeintohiskingdom,and shallreturnintohisownland
10Buthissonsshallbestirredup,andshallassemblea multitudeofgreatforces:andoneshallcertainlycome,and overflow,andpassthrough:thenshallhereturn,andbe stirredup,eventohisfortress.
11Andthekingofthesouthshallbemovedwithcholer, andshallcomeforthandfightwithhim,evenwiththeking ofthenorth:andheshallsetforthagreatmultitude;butthe multitudeshallbegivenintohishand.
12Andwhenhehathtakenawaythemultitude,hisheart shallbeliftedup;andheshallcastdownmanyten thousands:butheshallnotbestrengthenedbyit
13Forthekingofthenorthshallreturn,andshallsetforth amultitudegreaterthantheformer,andshallcertainly comeaftercertainyearswithagreatarmyandwithmuch riches
14Andinthosetimesthereshallmanystandupagainstthe kingofthesouth:alsotherobbersofthypeopleshallexalt themselvestoestablishthevision;buttheyshallfall
15Sothekingofthenorthshallcome,andcastupamount, andtakethemostfencedcities:andthearmsofthesouth shallnotwithstand,neitherhischosenpeople,neithershall therebeanystrengthtowithstand.
16Buthethatcomethagainsthimshalldoaccordingtohis ownwill,andnoneshallstandbeforehim:andheshall standinthegloriousland,whichbyhishandshallbe consumed
17Heshallalsosethisfacetoenterwiththestrengthofhis wholekingdom,anduprightoneswithhim;thusshallhe do:andheshallgivehimthedaughterofwomen, corruptingher:butsheshallnotstandonhisside,neither beforhim.
18Afterthisshallheturnhisfaceuntotheisles,andshall takemany:butaprinceforhisownbehalfshallcausethe reproachofferedbyhimtocease;withouthisownreproach heshallcauseittoturnuponhim
19Thenheshallturnhisfacetowardthefortofhisown land:butheshallstumbleandfall,andnotbefound.
20Thenshallstandupinhisestatearaiseroftaxesinthe gloryofthekingdom:butwithinfewdaysheshallbe destroyed,neitherinanger,norinbattle.
21Andinhisestateshallstandupavileperson,towhom theyshallnotgivethehonourofthekingdom:butheshall comeinpeaceably,andobtainthekingdombyflatteries.
22Andwiththearmsofafloodshalltheybeoverflown frombeforehim,andshallbebroken;yea,alsotheprince ofthecovenant.
23Andaftertheleaguemadewithhimheshallwork deceitfully:forheshallcomeup,andshallbecomestrong withasmallpeople
24Heshallenterpeaceablyevenuponthefattestplacesof theprovince;andheshalldothatwhichhisfathershave notdone,norhisfathers'fathers;heshallscatteramong themtheprey,andspoil,andriches:yea,andheshall forecasthisdevicesagainstthestrongholds,evenfora time
25Andheshallstiruphispowerandhiscourageagainst thekingofthesouthwithagreatarmy;andthekingofthe southshallbestirreduptobattlewithaverygreatand mightyarmy;butheshallnotstand:fortheyshallforecast devicesagainsthim.
26Yea,theythatfeedoftheportionofhismeatshall destroyhim,andhisarmyshalloverflow:andmanyshall falldownslain
27Andboththesekings'heartsshallbetodomischief,and theyshallspeakliesatonetable;butitshallnotprosper: foryettheendshallbeatthetimeappointed
28Thenshallhereturnintohislandwithgreatriches;and hisheartshallbeagainsttheholycovenant;andheshalldo exploits,andreturntohisownland
29Atthetimeappointedheshallreturn,andcometoward thesouth;butitshallnotbeastheformer,orasthelatter
30FortheshipsofChittimshallcomeagainsthim: thereforeheshallbegrieved,andreturn,andhave indignationagainsttheholycovenant:soshallhedo;he shallevenreturn,andhaveintelligencewiththemthat forsaketheholycovenant.
31Andarmsshallstandonhispart,andtheyshallpollute thesanctuaryofstrength,andshalltakeawaythedaily sacrifice,andtheyshallplacetheabominationthatmaketh desolate
32Andsuchasdowickedlyagainstthecovenantshallhe corruptbyflatteries:butthepeoplethatdoknowtheirGod shallbestrong,anddoexploits
33Andtheythatunderstandamongthepeopleshall instructmany:yettheyshallfallbythesword,andby flame,bycaptivity,andbyspoil,manydays
34Nowwhentheyshallfall,theyshallbeholpenwitha littlehelp:butmanyshallcleavetothemwithflatteries.
35Andsomeofthemofunderstandingshallfall,totry them,andtopurge,andtomakethemwhite,eventothe timeoftheend:becauseitisyetforatimeappointed.
36Andthekingshalldoaccordingtohiswill;andheshall exalthimself,andmagnifyhimselfaboveeverygod,and shallspeakmarvellousthingsagainsttheGodofgods,and shallprospertilltheindignationbeaccomplished:forthat thatisdeterminedshallbedone
37NeithershallheregardtheGodofhisfathers,northe desireofwomen,norregardanygod:forheshallmagnify himselfaboveall
38ButinhisestateshallhehonourtheGodofforces:and agodwhomhisfathersknewnotshallhehonourwithgold, andsilver,andwithpreciousstones,andpleasantthings
39Thusshallhedointhemoststrongholdswithastrange god,whomheshallacknowledgeandincreasewithglory: andheshallcausethemtoruleovermany,andshalldivide thelandforgain.
40Andatthetimeoftheendshallthekingofthesouth pushathim:andthekingofthenorthshallcomeagainst himlikeawhirlwind,withchariots,andwithhorsemen, andwithmanyships;andheshallenterintothecountries, andshalloverflowandpassover
41Heshallenteralsointothegloriousland,andmany countriesshallbeoverthrown:buttheseshallescapeoutof hishand,evenEdom,andMoab,andthechiefofthe childrenofAmmon
42Heshallstretchforthhishandalsouponthecountries: andthelandofEgyptshallnotescape.
43Butheshallhavepoweroverthetreasuresofgoldand ofsilver,andoverallthepreciousthingsofEgypt:andthe LibyansandtheEthiopiansshallbeathissteps.
44Buttidingsoutoftheeastandoutofthenorthshall troublehim:thereforeheshallgoforthwithgreatfuryto destroy,andutterlytomakeawaymany
45Andheshallplantthetabernaclesofhispalacebetween theseasinthegloriousholymountain;yetheshallcometo hisend,andnoneshallhelphim
CHAPTER12
1AndatthattimeshallMichaelstandup,thegreatprince whichstandethforthechildrenofthypeople:andthere shallbeatimeoftrouble,suchasneverwassincethere wasanationeventothatsametime:andatthattimethy peopleshallbedelivered,everyonethatshallbefound writteninthebook
2Andmanyofthemthatsleepinthedustoftheearthshall awake,sometoeverlastinglife,andsometoshameand everlastingcontempt
3Andtheythatbewiseshallshineasthebrightnessofthe firmament;andtheythatturnmanytorighteousnessasthe starsforeverandever
4Butthou,ODaniel,shutupthewords,andsealthebook, eventothetimeoftheend:manyshallruntoandfro,and knowledgeshallbeincreased
5ThenIDaniellooked,and,behold,therestoodothertwo, theoneonthissideofthebankoftheriver,andtheother onthatsideofthebankoftheriver
6Andonesaidtothemanclothedinlinen,whichwas uponthewatersoftheriver,Howlongshallitbetotheend ofthesewonders?
7AndIheardthemanclothedinlinen,whichwasupon thewatersoftheriver,whenhehelduphisrighthandand hislefthanduntoheaven,andswarebyhimthatlivethfor everthatitshallbeforatime,times,andanhalf;andwhen heshallhaveaccomplishedtoscatterthepoweroftheholy people,allthesethingsshallbefinished
8AndIheard,butIunderstoodnot:thensaidI,OmyLord, whatshallbetheendofthesethings?
9Andhesaid,Gothyway,Daniel:forthewordsare closedupandsealedtillthetimeoftheend.
10Manyshallbepurified,andmadewhite,andtried;but thewickedshalldowickedly:andnoneofthewickedshall understand;butthewiseshallunderstand.
11Andfromthetimethatthedailysacrificeshallbetaken away,andtheabominationthatmakethdesolatesetup, thereshallbeathousandtwohundredandninetydays.
12Blessedishethatwaiteth,andcomethtothethousand threehundredandfiveandthirtydays.
13Butgothouthywaytilltheendbe:forthoushaltrest, andstandinthylotattheendofthedays
