1ThewordsofJeremiahthesonofHilkiah,ofthepriests thatwereinAnathothinthelandofBenjamin:

2TowhomthewordoftheLORDcameinthedaysof JosiahthesonofAmonkingofJudah,inthethirteenth yearofhisreign

3ItcamealsointhedaysofJehoiakimthesonofJosiah kingofJudah,untotheendoftheeleventhyearof ZedekiahthesonofJosiahkingofJudah,untothecarrying awayofJerusalemcaptiveinthefifthmonth

4ThenthewordoftheLORDcameuntome,saying, 5BeforeIformedtheeinthebellyIknewthee;andbefore thoucamestforthoutofthewombIsanctifiedthee,andI ordainedtheeaprophetuntothenations.

6ThensaidI,Ah,LordGOD!behold,Icannotspeak:forI amachild

7ButtheLORDsaiduntome,Saynot,Iamachild:for thoushaltgotoallthatIshallsendthee,andwhatsoeverI commandtheethoushaltspeak

8Benotafraidoftheirfaces:forIamwiththeetodeliver thee,saiththeLORD

9ThentheLORDputforthhishand,andtouchedmy mouth.AndtheLORDsaiduntome,Behold,Ihaveput mywordsinthymouth

10See,Ihavethisdaysettheeoverthenationsandover thekingdoms,torootout,andtopulldown,andtodestroy, andtothrowdown,tobuild,andtoplant

11MoreoverthewordoftheLORDcameuntome,saying, Jeremiah,whatseestthou?AndIsaid,Iseearodofan almondtree

12ThensaidtheLORDuntome,Thouhastwellseen:forI willhastenmywordtoperformit.

13AndthewordoftheLORDcameuntomethesecond time,saying,Whatseestthou?AndIsaid,Iseeaseething pot;andthefacethereofistowardthenorth.

14ThentheLORDsaiduntome,Outofthenorthanevil shallbreakforthuponalltheinhabitantsoftheland

15For,lo,Iwillcallallthefamiliesofthekingdomsofthe north,saiththeLORD;andtheyshallcome,andtheyshall seteveryonehisthroneattheenteringofthegatesof Jerusalem,andagainstallthewallsthereofroundabout, andagainstallthecitiesofJudah

16AndIwilluttermyjudgmentsagainstthemtouchingall theirwickedness,whohaveforsakenme,andhaveburned incenseuntoothergods,andworshippedtheworksoftheir ownhands.

17Thouthereforegirdupthyloins,andarise,andspeak untothemallthatIcommandthee:benotdismayedattheir faces,lestIconfoundtheebeforethem.

18For,behold,Ihavemadetheethisdayadefencedcity, andanironpillar,andbrasenwallsagainstthewholeland, againstthekingsofJudah,againsttheprincesthereof, againsttheprieststhereof,andagainstthepeopleofthe land

19Andtheyshallfightagainstthee;buttheyshallnot prevailagainstthee;forIamwiththee,saiththeLORD,to deliverthee

CHAPTER2

1MoreoverthewordoftheLORDcametome,saying, 2GoandcryintheearsofJerusalem,saying,Thussaith theLORD;Irememberthee,thekindnessofthyyouth,the loveofthineespousals,whenthouwentestaftermeinthe wilderness,inalandthatwasnotsown

3IsraelwasholinessuntotheLORD,andthefirstfruitsof hisincrease:allthatdevourhimshalloffend;evilshall comeuponthem,saiththeLORD

4HearyethewordoftheLORD,OhouseofJacob,andall thefamiliesofthehouseofIsrael:

5ThussaiththeLORD,Whatiniquityhaveyourfathers foundinme,thattheyaregonefarfromme,andhave walkedaftervanity,andarebecomevain?

6Neithersaidthey,WhereistheLORDthatbroughtusup outofthelandofEgypt,thatledusthroughthewilderness, throughalandofdesertsandofpits,throughalandof drought,andoftheshadowofdeath,throughalandthatno manpassedthrough,andwherenomandwelt?

7AndIbroughtyouintoaplentifulcountry,toeatthefruit thereofandthegoodnessthereof;butwhenyeentered,ye defiledmyland,andmademineheritageanabomination.

8Thepriestssaidnot,WhereistheLORD?andtheythat handlethelawknewmenot:thepastorsalsotransgressed againstme,andtheprophetsprophesiedbyBaal,and walkedafterthingsthatdonotprofit.

9WhereforeIwillyetpleadwithyou,saiththeLORD,and withyourchildren'schildrenwillIplead

10ForpassovertheislesofChittim,andsee;andsend untoKedar,andconsiderdiligently,andseeiftherebe suchathing.

11Hathanationchangedtheirgods,whichareyetnogods? butmypeoplehavechangedtheirgloryforthatwhichdoth notprofit.

12Beastonished,Oyeheavens,atthis,andbehorribly afraid,beyeverydesolate,saiththeLORD

13Formypeoplehavecommittedtwoevils;theyhave forsakenmethefountainoflivingwaters,andhewedthem outcisterns,brokencisterns,thatcanholdnowater 14IsIsraelaservant?isheahomebornslave?whyishe spoiled?

15Theyounglionsroareduponhim,andyelled,andthey madehislandwaste:hiscitiesareburnedwithout inhabitant

16AlsothechildrenofNophandTahapaneshavebroken thecrownofthyhead.

17Hastthounotprocuredthisuntothyself,inthatthou hastforsakentheLORDthyGod,whenheledtheebythe way?

18AndnowwhathastthoutodointhewayofEgypt,to drinkthewatersofSihor?orwhathastthoutodointhe wayofAssyria,todrinkthewatersoftheriver?

19Thineownwickednessshallcorrectthee,andthy backslidingsshallreprovethee:knowthereforeandsee thatitisanevilthingandbitter,thatthouhastforsakenthe LORDthyGod,andthatmyfearisnotinthee,saiththe LordGODofhosts

20ForofoldtimeIhavebrokenthyyoke,andburstthy bands;andthousaidst,Iwillnottransgress;whenupon everyhighhillandundereverygreentreethouwanderest, playingtheharlot.

21YetIhadplantedtheeanoblevine,whollyarightseed: howthenartthouturnedintothedegenerateplantofa strangevineuntome?

22Forthoughthouwashtheewithnitre,andtakethee muchsoap,yetthineiniquityismarkedbeforeme,saith theLordGOD

23Howcanstthousay,Iamnotpolluted,Ihavenotgone afterBaalim?seethywayinthevalley,knowwhatthou hastdone:thouartaswiftdromedarytraversingherways; 24Awildassusedtothewilderness,thatsnuffethupthe windatherpleasure;inheroccasionwhocanturnher away?alltheythatseekherwillnotwearythemselves;in hermonththeyshallfindher.

25Withholdthyfootfrombeingunshod,andthythroat fromthirst:butthousaidst,Thereisnohope:no;forIhave lovedstrangers,andafterthemwillIgo.

26Asthethiefisashamedwhenheisfound,soisthe houseofIsraelashamed;they,theirkings,theirprinces, andtheirpriests,andtheirprophets,

27Sayingtoastock,Thouartmyfather;andtoastone, Thouhastbroughtmeforth:fortheyhaveturnedtheirback untome,andnottheirface:butinthetimeoftheirtrouble theywillsay,Arise,andsaveus

28Butwherearethygodsthatthouhastmadethee?let themarise,iftheycansavetheeinthetimeofthytrouble: foraccordingtothenumberofthycitiesarethygods,O Judah

29Whereforewillyepleadwithme?yeallhave transgressedagainstme,saiththeLORD

30InvainhaveIsmittenyourchildren;theyreceivedno correction:yourownswordhathdevouredyourprophets, likeadestroyinglion

31Ogeneration,seeyethewordoftheLORDHaveI beenawildernessuntoIsrael?alandofdarkness? whereforesaymypeople,Wearelords;wewillcomeno moreuntothee?

32Canamaidforgetherornaments,orabrideherattire? yetmypeoplehaveforgottenmedayswithoutnumber 33Whytrimmestthouthywaytoseeklove?thereforehast thoualsotaughtthewickedonesthyways.

34Alsointhyskirtsisfoundthebloodofthesoulsofthe poorinnocents:Ihavenotfounditbysecretsearch,but uponallthese.

35Yetthousayest,BecauseIaminnocent,surelyhisanger shallturnfrommeBehold,Iwillpleadwiththee,because thousayest,Ihavenotsinned.

36Whygaddestthouaboutsomuchtochangethyway? thoualsoshaltbeashamedofEgypt,asthouwastashamed ofAssyria

37Yea,thoushaltgoforthfromhim,andthinehandsupon thinehead:fortheLORDhathrejectedthyconfidences, andthoushaltnotprosperinthem.

CHAPTER3

1Theysay,Ifamanputawayhiswife,andshegofrom him,andbecomeanotherman's,shallhereturnuntoher again?shallnotthatlandbegreatlypolluted?butthouhast playedtheharlotwithmanylovers;yetreturnagaintome, saiththeLORD.

2Liftupthineeyesuntothehighplaces,andseewhere thouhastnotbeenlienwithInthewayshastthousatfor

them,astheArabianinthewilderness;andthouhast pollutedthelandwiththywhoredomsandwiththy wickedness

3Thereforetheshowershavebeenwithholden,andthere hathbeennolatterrain;andthouhadstawhore'sforehead, thourefusedsttobeashamed

4Wiltthounotfromthistimecryuntome,Myfather,thou arttheguideofmyyouth?

5Willhereservehisangerforever?willhekeepittothe end?Behold,thouhastspokenanddoneevilthingsasthou couldest

6TheLORDsaidalsountomeinthedaysofJosiahthe king,HastthouseenthatwhichbackslidingIsraelhath done?sheisgoneupuponeveryhighmountainandunder everygreentree,andtherehathplayedtheharlot

7AndIsaidaftershehaddoneallthesethings,Turnthou untomeButshereturnednotAndhertreacheroussister Judahsawit

8AndIsaw,whenforallthecauseswherebybacksliding IsraelcommittedadulteryIhadputheraway,andgiven herabillofdivorce;yethertreacheroussisterJudahfeared not,butwentandplayedtheharlotalso.

9Anditcametopassthroughthelightnessofher whoredom,thatshedefiledtheland,andcommitted adulterywithstonesandwithstocks.

10AndyetforallthishertreacheroussisterJudahhathnot turneduntomewithherwholeheart,butfeignedly,saith theLORD.

11AndtheLORDsaiduntome,ThebackslidingIsrael hathjustifiedherselfmorethantreacherousJudah 12Goandproclaimthesewordstowardthenorth,andsay, Return,thoubackslidingIsrael,saiththeLORD;andIwill notcausemineangertofalluponyou:forIammerciful, saiththeLORD,andIwillnotkeepangerforever.

13Onlyacknowledgethineiniquity,thatthouhast transgressedagainsttheLORDthyGod,andhastscattered thywaystothestrangersundereverygreentree,andye havenotobeyedmyvoice,saiththeLORD

14Turn,Obackslidingchildren,saiththeLORD;forIam marrieduntoyou:andIwilltakeyouoneofacity,andtwo ofafamily,andIwillbringyoutoZion:

15AndIwillgiveyoupastorsaccordingtomineheart, whichshallfeedyouwithknowledgeandunderstanding.

16Anditshallcometopass,whenyebemultipliedand increasedintheland,inthosedays,saiththeLORD,they shallsaynomore,ThearkofthecovenantoftheLORD: neithershallitcometomind:neithershalltheyremember it;neithershalltheyvisitit;neithershallthatbedoneany more

17AtthattimetheyshallcallJerusalemthethroneofthe LORD;andallthenationsshallbegathereduntoit,tothe nameoftheLORD,toJerusalem:neithershalltheywalk anymoreaftertheimaginationoftheirevilheart

18InthosedaysthehouseofJudahshallwalkwiththe houseofIsrael,andtheyshallcometogetheroutofthe landofthenorthtothelandthatIhavegivenforan inheritanceuntoyourfathers.

19ButIsaid,HowshallIputtheeamongthechildren,and givetheeapleasantland,agoodlyheritageofthehostsof nations?andIsaid,Thoushaltcallme,Myfather;and shaltnotturnawayfromme

20Surelyasawifetreacherouslydepartethfromher husband,sohaveyedealttreacherouslywithme,Ohouse ofIsrael,saiththeLORD

21Avoicewashearduponthehighplaces,weepingand supplicationsofthechildrenofIsrael:fortheyhave pervertedtheirway,andtheyhaveforgottentheLORD theirGod

22Return,yebackslidingchildren,andIwillhealyour backslidingsBehold,wecomeuntothee;forthouartthe LORDourGod

23Trulyinvainissalvationhopedforfromthehills,and fromthemultitudeofmountains:trulyintheLORDour GodisthesalvationofIsrael.

24Forshamehathdevouredthelabourofourfathersfrom ouryouth;theirflocksandtheirherds,theirsonsandtheir daughters.

25Weliedowninourshame,andourconfusioncovereth us:forwehavesinnedagainsttheLORDourGod,weand ourfathers,fromouryouthevenuntothisday,andhave notobeyedthevoiceoftheLORDourGod

CHAPTER4

1Ifthouwiltreturn,OIsrael,saiththeLORD,returnunto me:andifthouwiltputawaythineabominationsoutofmy sight,thenshaltthounotremove

2Andthoushaltswear,TheLORDliveth,intruth,in judgment,andinrighteousness;andthenationsshallbless themselvesinhim,andinhimshalltheyglory

3ForthussaiththeLORDtothemenofJudahand Jerusalem,Breakupyourfallowground,andsownot amongthorns

4CircumciseyourselvestotheLORD,andtakeawaythe foreskinsofyourheart,yemenofJudahandinhabitantsof Jerusalem:lestmyfurycomeforthlikefire,andburnthat nonecanquenchit,becauseoftheevilofyourdoings

5DeclareyeinJudah,andpublishinJerusalem;andsay, Blowyethetrumpetintheland:cry,gathertogether,and say,Assembleyourselves,andletusgointothedefenced cities.

6SetupthestandardtowardZion:retire,staynot:forI willbringevilfromthenorth,andagreatdestruction

7Thelioniscomeupfromhisthicket,andthedestroyerof theGentilesisonhisway;heisgoneforthfromhisplace tomakethylanddesolate;andthycitiesshallbelaidwaste, withoutaninhabitant.

8Forthisgirdyouwithsackcloth,lamentandhowl:forthe fierceangeroftheLORDisnotturnedbackfromus.

9Anditshallcometopassatthatday,saiththeLORD, thattheheartofthekingshallperish,andtheheartofthe princes;andthepriestsshallbeastonished,andthe prophetsshallwonder.

10ThensaidI,Ah,LordGOD!surelythouhastgreatly deceivedthispeopleandJerusalem,saying,Yeshallhave peace;whereastheswordreachethuntothesoul

11Atthattimeshallitbesaidtothispeopleandto Jerusalem,Adrywindofthehighplacesinthewilderness towardthedaughterofmypeople,nottofan,nortocleanse, 12Evenafullwindfromthoseplacesshallcomeuntome: nowalsowillIgivesentenceagainstthem.

13Behold,heshallcomeupasclouds,andhischariots shallbeasawhirlwind:hishorsesareswifterthaneagles. Woeuntous!forwearespoiled

14OJerusalem,washthineheartfromwickedness,that thoumayestbesaved.Howlongshallthyvainthoughts lodgewithinthee?

15ForavoicedeclarethfromDan,andpublisheth afflictionfrommountEphraim.

16Makeyementiontothenations;behold,publishagainst Jerusalem,thatwatcherscomefromafarcountry,andgive outtheirvoiceagainstthecitiesofJudah

17Askeepersofafield,aretheyagainstherroundabout; becauseshehathbeenrebelliousagainstme,saiththe LORD

18Thywayandthydoingshaveprocuredthesethingsunto thee;thisisthywickedness,becauseitisbitter,becauseit reachethuntothineheart

19Mybowels,mybowels!Iampainedatmyveryheart; myheartmakethanoiseinme;Icannotholdmypeace, becausethouhastheard,Omysoul,thesoundofthe trumpet,thealarmofwar

20Destructionupondestructioniscried;forthewholeland isspoiled:suddenlyaremytentsspoiled,andmycurtains inamoment

21HowlongshallIseethestandard,andhearthesoundof thetrumpet?

22Formypeopleisfoolish,theyhavenotknownme;they aresottishchildren,andtheyhavenoneunderstanding: theyarewisetodoevil,buttodogoodtheyhaveno knowledge

23Ibeheldtheearth,and,lo,itwaswithoutform,andvoid; andtheheavens,andtheyhadnolight

24Ibeheldthemountains,and,lo,theytrembled,andall thehillsmovedlightly.

25Ibeheld,and,lo,therewasnoman,andallthebirdsof theheavenswerefled

26Ibeheld,and,lo,thefruitfulplacewasawilderness,and allthecitiesthereofwerebrokendownatthepresenceof theLORD,andbyhisfierceanger

27ForthushaththeLORDsaid,Thewholelandshallbe desolate;yetwillInotmakeafullend

28Forthisshalltheearthmourn,andtheheavensabovebe black:becauseIhavespokenit,Ihavepurposedit,and willnotrepent,neitherwillIturnbackfromit

29Thewholecityshallfleeforthenoiseofthehorsemen andbowmen;theyshallgointothickets,andclimbup upontherocks:everycityshallbeforsaken,andnotaman dwelltherein.

30Andwhenthouartspoiled,whatwiltthoudo?Though thouclothestthyselfwithcrimson,thoughthoudeckest theewithornamentsofgold,thoughthourentestthyface withpainting,invainshaltthoumakethyselffair;thy loverswilldespisethee,theywillseekthylife

31ForIhaveheardavoiceasofawomanintravail,and theanguishasofherthatbringethforthherfirstchild,the voiceofthedaughterofZion,thatbewailethherself,that spreadethherhands,saying,Woeismenow!formysoul isweariedbecauseofmurderers

CHAPTER5

1RunyetoandfrothroughthestreetsofJerusalem,and seenow,andknow,andseekinthebroadplacesthereof,if yecanfindaman,iftherebeanythatexecutethjudgment, thatseekeththetruth;andIwillpardonit

2Andthoughtheysay,TheLORDliveth;surelythey swearfalsely.

3OLORD,arenotthineeyesuponthetruth?thouhast strickenthem,buttheyhavenotgrieved;thouhast consumedthem,buttheyhaverefusedtoreceivecorrection: theyhavemadetheirfacesharderthanarock;theyhave refusedtoreturn.

4ThereforeIsaid,Surelythesearepoor;theyarefoolish: fortheyknownotthewayoftheLORD,northejudgment oftheirGod.

5Iwillgetmeuntothegreatmen,andwillspeakunto them;fortheyhaveknownthewayoftheLORD,andthe judgmentoftheirGod:butthesehavealtogetherbroken theyoke,andburstthebonds

6Whereforealionoutoftheforestshallslaythem,anda wolfoftheeveningsshallspoilthem,aleopardshallwatch overtheircities:everyonethatgoethoutthenceshallbe torninpieces:becausetheirtransgressionsaremany,and theirbackslidingsareincreased.

7HowshallIpardontheeforthis?thychildrenhave forsakenme,andswornbythemthatarenogods:whenI hadfedthemtothefull,theythencommittedadultery,and assembledthemselvesbytroopsintheharlots'houses

8Theywereasfedhorsesinthemorning:everyone neighedafterhisneighbour'swife.

9ShallInotvisitforthesethings?saiththeLORD:and shallnotmysoulbeavengedonsuchanationasthis?

10Goyeupuponherwalls,anddestroy;butmakenota fullend:takeawayherbattlements;fortheyarenotthe LORD'S

11ForthehouseofIsraelandthehouseofJudahhave dealtverytreacherouslyagainstme,saiththeLORD

12TheyhavebeliedtheLORD,andsaid,Itisnothe; neithershallevilcomeuponus;neithershallweseesword norfamine:

13Andtheprophetsshallbecomewind,andthewordis notinthem:thusshallitbedoneuntothem.

14WhereforethussaiththeLORDGodofhosts,Because yespeakthisword,behold,Iwillmakemywordsinthy mouthfire,andthispeoplewood,anditshalldevourthem.

15Lo,Iwillbringanationuponyoufromfar,Ohouseof Israel,saiththeLORD:itisamightynation,itisanancient nation,anationwhoselanguagethouknowestnot,neither understandestwhattheysay

16Theirquiverisasanopensepulchre,theyareallmighty men.

17Andtheyshalleatupthineharvest,andthybread, whichthysonsandthydaughtersshouldeat:theyshalleat upthyflocksandthineherds:theyshalleatupthyvines andthyfigtrees:theyshallimpoverishthyfencedcities, whereinthoutrustedst,withthesword.

18Neverthelessinthosedays,saiththeLORD,Iwillnot makeafullendwithyou

19Anditshallcometopass,whenyeshallsay,Wherefore doeththeLORDourGodallthesethingsuntous?then shaltthouanswerthem,Likeasyehaveforsakenme,and

servedstrangegodsinyourland,soshallyeserve strangersinalandthatisnotyours.

20DeclarethisinthehouseofJacob,andpublishitin Judah,saying,

21Hearnowthis,Ofoolishpeople,andwithout understanding;whichhaveeyes,andseenot;whichhave ears,andhearnot:

22Fearyenotme?saiththeLORD:willyenottrembleat mypresence,whichhaveplacedthesandfortheboundof theseabyaperpetualdecree,thatitcannotpassit:and thoughthewavesthereoftossthemselves,yetcantheynot prevail;thoughtheyroar,yetcantheynotpassoverit?

23Butthispeoplehatharevoltingandarebelliousheart; theyarerevoltedandgone

24Neithersaytheyintheirheart,Letusnowfearthe LORDourGod,thatgivethrain,boththeformerandthe latter,inhisseason:hereservethuntoustheappointed weeksoftheharvest

25Youriniquitieshaveturnedawaythesethings,andyour sinshavewithholdengoodthingsfromyou

26Foramongmypeoplearefoundwickedmen:theylay wait,ashethatsettethsnares;theysetatrap,theycatch men

27Asacageisfullofbirds,soaretheirhousesfullof deceit:thereforetheyarebecomegreat,andwaxenrich.

28Theyarewaxenfat,theyshine:yea,theyoverpassthe deedsofthewicked:theyjudgenotthecause,thecauseof thefatherless,yettheyprosper;andtherightoftheneedy dotheynotjudge

29ShallInotvisitforthesethings?saiththeLORD:shall notmysoulbeavengedonsuchanationasthis?

30Awonderfulandhorriblethingiscommittedintheland; 31Theprophetsprophesyfalsely,andthepriestsbearrule bytheirmeans;andmypeoplelovetohaveitso:andwhat willyedointheendthereof?

CHAPTER6

1OyechildrenofBenjamin,gatheryourselvestofleeout ofthemidstofJerusalem,andblowthetrumpetinTekoa, andsetupasignoffireinBethhaccerem:forevil appearethoutofthenorth,andgreatdestruction

2IhavelikenedthedaughterofZiontoacomelyand delicatewoman

3Theshepherdswiththeirflocksshallcomeuntoher;they shallpitchtheirtentsagainstherroundabout;theyshall feedeveryoneinhisplace

4Prepareyewaragainsther;arise,andletusgoupatnoon. Woeuntous!forthedaygoethaway,fortheshadowsof theeveningarestretchedout

5Arise,andletusgobynight,andletusdestroyher palaces.

6ForthushaththeLORDofhostssaid,Hewyedown trees,andcastamountagainstJerusalem:thisisthecityto bevisited;sheiswhollyoppressioninthemidstofher

7Asafountaincastethoutherwaters,soshecastethout herwickedness:violenceandspoilisheardinher;before mecontinuallyisgriefandwounds

8Bethouinstructed,OJerusalem,lestmysouldepartfrom thee;lestImaketheedesolate,alandnotinhabited.

9ThussaiththeLORDofhosts,Theyshallthroughly gleantheremnantofIsraelasavine:turnbackthinehand asagrapegathererintothebaskets

10TowhomshallIspeak,andgivewarning,thattheymay hear?behold,theirearisuncircumcised,andtheycannot hearken:behold,thewordoftheLORDisuntothema reproach;theyhavenodelightinit

11ThereforeIamfullofthefuryoftheLORD;Iamweary withholdingin:Iwillpouritoutuponthechildrenabroad, andupontheassemblyofyoungmentogether:foreventhe husbandwiththewifeshallbetaken,theagedwithhim thatisfullofdays

12Andtheirhousesshallbeturneduntoothers,withtheir fieldsandwivestogether:forIwillstretchoutmyhand upontheinhabitantsoftheland,saiththeLORD

13Forfromtheleastofthemevenuntothegreatestof themeveryoneisgiventocovetousness;andfromthe prophetevenuntothepriesteveryonedealethfalsely

20Towhatpurposecomeththeretomeincensefrom Sheba,andthesweetcanefromafarcountry?yourburnt offeringsarenotacceptable,noryoursacrificessweetunto me

21ThereforethussaiththeLORD,Behold,Iwilllay stumblingblocksbeforethispeople,andthefathersandthe sonstogethershallfalluponthem;theneighbourandhis friendshallperish

22ThussaiththeLORD,Behold,apeoplecomethfrom thenorthcountry,andagreatnationshallberaisedfrom thesidesoftheearth.

23Theyshalllayholdonbowandspear;theyarecruel, andhavenomercy;theirvoiceroarethlikethesea;and theyrideuponhorses,setinarrayasmenforwaragainst thee,OdaughterofZion.

24Wehaveheardthefamethereof:ourhandswaxfeeble: anguishhathtakenholdofus,andpain,asofawomanin travail

25Gonotforthintothefield,norwalkbytheway;forthe swordoftheenemyandfearisoneveryside.

6Ifyeoppressnotthestranger,thefatherless,andthe widow,andshednotinnocentbloodinthisplace,neither walkafterothergodstoyourhurt:

7ThenwillIcauseyoutodwellinthisplace,intheland thatIgavetoyourfathers,foreverandever.

8Behold,yetrustinlyingwords,thatcannotprofit 9Willyesteal,murder,andcommitadultery,andswear falsely,andburnincenseuntoBaal,andwalkafterother godswhomyeknownot;

10Andcomeandstandbeforemeinthishouse,whichis calledbymyname,andsay,Wearedeliveredtodoall theseabominations?

11Isthishouse,whichiscalledbymyname,becomea denofrobbersinyoureyes?Behold,evenIhaveseenit, saiththeLORD

12ButgoyenowuntomyplacewhichwasinShiloh, whereIsetmynameatthefirst,andseewhatIdidtoitfor thewickednessofmypeopleIsrael

13Andnow,becauseyehavedonealltheseworks,saith theLORD,andIspakeuntoyou,risingupearlyand speaking,butyeheardnot;andIcalledyou,butye answerednot;

14ThereforewillIdountothishouse,whichiscalledby myname,whereinyetrust,anduntotheplacewhichIgave toyouandtoyourfathers,asIhavedonetoShiloh

15AndIwillcastyououtofmysight,asIhavecastoutall yourbrethren,eventhewholeseedofEphraim

16Thereforepraynotthouforthispeople,neitherliftup crynorprayerforthem,neithermakeintercessiontome: forIwillnothearthee

17SeestthounotwhattheydointhecitiesofJudahandin thestreetsofJerusalem?

18Thechildrengatherwood,andthefatherskindlethefire, andthewomenkneadtheirdough,tomakecakestothe queenofheaven,andtopouroutdrinkofferingsuntoother gods,thattheymayprovokemetoanger

19Dotheyprovokemetoanger?saiththeLORD:dothey notprovokethemselvestotheconfusionoftheirownfaces?

20ThereforethussaiththeLordGOD;Behold,mineanger andmyfuryshallbepouredoutuponthisplace,uponman, anduponbeast,anduponthetreesofthefield,andupon thefruitoftheground;anditshallburn,andshallnotbe quenched

21ThussaiththeLORDofhosts,theGodofIsrael;Put yourburntofferingsuntoyoursacrifices,andeatflesh

22ForIspakenotuntoyourfathers,norcommandedthem inthedaythatIbroughtthemoutofthelandofEgypt, concerningburntofferingsorsacrifices:

23ButthisthingcommandedIthem,saying,Obeymy voice,andIwillbeyourGod,andyeshallbemypeople: andwalkyeinallthewaysthatIhavecommandedyou, thatitmaybewelluntoyou.

24Buttheyhearkenednot,norinclinedtheirear,but walkedinthecounselsandintheimaginationoftheirevil heart,andwentbackward,andnotforward.

25Sincethedaythatyourfatherscameforthoutofthe landofEgyptuntothisdayIhaveevensentuntoyouall myservantstheprophets,dailyrisingupearlyandsending them:

26Yettheyhearkenednotuntome,norinclinedtheirear, buthardenedtheirneck:theydidworsethantheirfathers.

27Thereforethoushaltspeakallthesewordsuntothem; buttheywillnothearkentothee:thoushaltalsocallunto them;buttheywillnotanswerthee.

28Butthoushaltsayuntothem,Thisisanationthat obeyethnotthevoiceoftheLORDtheirGod,norreceiveth correction:truthisperished,andiscutofffromtheirmouth.

29Cutoffthinehair,OJerusalem,andcastitaway,and takeupalamentationonhighplaces;fortheLORDhath rejectedandforsakenthegenerationofhiswrath.

30ForthechildrenofJudahhavedoneevilinmysight, saiththeLORD:theyhavesettheirabominationsinthe housewhichiscalledbymyname,topolluteit.

31AndtheyhavebuiltthehighplacesofTophet,whichis inthevalleyofthesonofHinnom,toburntheirsonsand theirdaughtersinthefire;whichIcommandedthemnot, neithercameitintomyheart

32Therefore,behold,thedayscome,saiththeLORD,that itshallnomorebecalledTophet,northevalleyoftheson ofHinnom,butthevalleyofslaughter:fortheyshallbury inTophet,tilltherebenoplace

33Andthecarcasesofthispeopleshallbemeatforthe fowlsoftheheaven,andforthebeastsoftheearth;and noneshallfraythemaway.

34ThenwillIcausetoceasefromthecitiesofJudah,and fromthestreetsofJerusalem,thevoiceofmirth,andthe voiceofgladness,thevoiceofthebridegroom,andthe voiceofthebride:forthelandshallbedesolate.

CHAPTER8

1Atthattime,saiththeLORD,theyshallbringoutthe bonesofthekingsofJudah,andthebonesofhisprinces, andthebonesofthepriests,andthebonesoftheprophets, andthebonesoftheinhabitantsofJerusalem,outoftheir graves:

2Andtheyshallspreadthembeforethesun,andthemoon, andallthehostofheaven,whomtheyhaveloved,and

whomtheyhaveserved,andafterwhomtheyhavewalked, andwhomtheyhavesought,andwhomtheyhave worshipped:theyshallnotbegathered,norbeburied;they shallbefordunguponthefaceoftheearth.

3Anddeathshallbechosenratherthanlifebyallthe residueofthemthatremainofthisevilfamily,which remaininalltheplaceswhitherIhavedriventhem,saith theLORDofhosts.

4Moreoverthoushaltsayuntothem,ThussaiththeLORD; Shalltheyfall,andnotarise?shallheturnaway,andnot return?

5WhythenisthispeopleofJerusalemsliddenbackbya perpetualbacksliding?theyholdfastdeceit,theyrefuseto return

6Ihearkenedandheard,buttheyspakenotaright:noman repentedhimofhiswickedness,saying,WhathaveIdone? everyoneturnedtohiscourse,asthehorserushethintothe battle

7Yea,thestorkintheheavenknowethherappointedtimes; andtheturtleandthecraneandtheswallowobservethe timeoftheircoming;butmypeopleknownotthe judgmentoftheLORD.

8Howdoyesay,Wearewise,andthelawoftheLORDis withus?Lo,certainlyinvainmadeheit;thepenofthe scribesisinvain.

9Thewisemenareashamed,theyaredismayedandtaken: lo,theyhaverejectedthewordoftheLORD;andwhat wisdomisinthem?

10ThereforewillIgivetheirwivesuntoothers,andtheir fieldstothemthatshallinheritthem:foreveryonefrom theleastevenuntothegreatestisgiventocovetousness, fromtheprophetevenuntothepriesteveryonedealeth falsely

15Welookedforpeace,butnogoodcame;andforatime ofhealth,andbeholdtrouble!

16ThesnortingofhishorseswasheardfromDan:the wholelandtrembledatthesoundoftheneighingofhis strongones;fortheyarecome,andhavedevouredtheland, andallthatisinit;thecity,andthosethatdwelltherein

17For,behold,Iwillsendserpents,cockatrices,among you,whichwillnotbecharmed,andtheyshallbiteyou, saiththeLORD

18WhenIwouldcomfortmyselfagainstsorrow,myheart isfaintinme

19Beholdthevoiceofthecryofthedaughterofmy peoplebecauseofthemthatdwellinafarcountry:Isnot theLORDinZion?isnotherkinginher?Whyhavethey provokedmetoangerwiththeirgravenimages,andwith strangevanities?

20Theharvestispast,thesummerisended,andwearenot saved

22IstherenobalminGilead;istherenophysicianthere? whythenisnotthehealthofthedaughterofmypeople recovered?

CHAPTER9

1Ohthatmyheadwerewaters,andmineeyesafountain oftears,thatImightweepdayandnightfortheslainofthe daughterofmypeople!

2OhthatIhadinthewildernessalodgingplaceof wayfaringmen;thatImightleavemypeople,andgofrom them!fortheybealladulterers,anassemblyoftreacherous men.

3Andtheybendtheirtonguesliketheirbowforlies:but theyarenotvaliantforthetruthupontheearth;forthey proceedfromeviltoevil,andtheyknownotme,saiththe LORD

4Takeyeheedeveryoneofhisneighbour,andtrustyenot inanybrother:foreverybrotherwillutterlysupplant,and everyneighbourwillwalkwithslanders

5Andtheywilldeceiveeveryonehisneighbour,andwill notspeakthetruth:theyhavetaughttheirtonguetospeak lies,andwearythemselvestocommitiniquity

6Thinehabitationisinthemidstofdeceit;throughdeceit theyrefusetoknowme,saiththeLORD.

7ThereforethussaiththeLORDofhosts,Behold,Iwill meltthem,andtrythem;forhowshallIdoforthedaughter ofmypeople?

8Theirtongueisasanarrowshotout;itspeakethdeceit: onespeakethpeaceablytohisneighbourwithhismouth, butinhearthelayethhiswait.

9ShallInotvisitthemforthesethings?saiththeLORD: shallnotmysoulbeavengedonsuchanationasthis?

10ForthemountainswillItakeupaweepingandwailing, andforthehabitationsofthewildernessalamentation, becausetheyareburnedup,sothatnonecanpassthrough them;neithercanmenhearthevoiceofthecattle;boththe fowloftheheavensandthebeastarefled;theyaregone

11AndIwillmakeJerusalemheaps,andadenofdragons; andIwillmakethecitiesofJudahdesolate,withoutan inhabitant

12Whoisthewiseman,thatmayunderstandthis?and whoishetowhomthemouthoftheLORDhathspoken, thathemaydeclareit,forwhatthelandperishethandis burneduplikeawilderness,thatnonepasseththrough?

13AndtheLORDsaith,Becausetheyhaveforsakenmy lawwhichIsetbeforethem,andhavenotobeyedmyvoice, neitherwalkedtherein;

14Buthavewalkedaftertheimaginationoftheirown heart,andafterBaalim,whichtheirfatherstaughtthem:

15ThereforethussaiththeLORDofhosts,theGodof Israel;Behold,Iwillfeedthem,eventhispeople,with wormwood,andgivethemwaterofgalltodrink

16Iwillscatterthemalsoamongtheheathen,whom neithertheynortheirfathershaveknown:andIwillsenda swordafterthem,tillIhaveconsumedthem

18Andletthemmakehaste,andtakeupawailingforus, thatoureyesmayrundownwithtears,andoureyelids gushoutwithwaters

19ForavoiceofwailingisheardoutofZion,Howarewe spoiled!wearegreatlyconfounded,becausewehave forsakentheland,becauseourdwellingshavecastusout

20YethearthewordoftheLORD,Oyewomen,andlet yourearreceivethewordofhismouth,andteachyour daughterswailing,andeveryoneherneighbour lamentation.

21Fordeathiscomeupintoourwindows,andisentered intoourpalaces,tocutoffthechildrenfromwithout,and theyoungmenfromthestreets.

22Speak,ThussaiththeLORD,Eventhecarcasesofmen shallfallasdungupontheopenfield,andasthehandful aftertheharvestman,andnoneshallgatherthem.

23ThussaiththeLORD,Letnotthewisemangloryinhis wisdom,neitherletthemightymangloryinhismight,let nottherichmangloryinhisriches:

2ThussaiththeLORD,Learnnotthewayoftheheathen, andbenotdismayedatthesignsofheaven;fortheheathen aredismayedatthem

3Forthecustomsofthepeoplearevain:foronecuttetha treeoutoftheforest,theworkofthehandsoftheworkman, withtheaxe.

4Theydeckitwithsilverandwithgold;theyfastenitwith nailsandwithhammers,thatitmovenot

9SilverspreadintoplatesisbroughtfromTarshish,and goldfromUphaz,theworkoftheworkman,andofthe handsofthefounder:blueandpurpleistheirclothing:they arealltheworkofcunningmen.

10ButtheLORDisthetrueGod,heisthelivingGod,and aneverlastingking:athiswraththeearthshalltremble,and thenationsshallnotbeabletoabidehisindignation

11Thusshallyesayuntothem,Thegodsthathavenot madetheheavensandtheearth,eventheyshallperishfrom theearth,andfromundertheseheavens 12Hehathmadetheearthbyhispower,hehath establishedtheworldbyhiswisdom,andhathstretchedout theheavensbyhisdiscretion.

13Whenheutterethhisvoice,thereisamultitudeof watersintheheavens,andhecauseththevapourstoascend fromtheendsoftheearth;hemakethlightningswithrain, andbringethforththewindoutofhistreasures

14Everymanisbrutishinhisknowledge:everyfounderis confoundedbythegravenimage:forhismoltenimageis falsehood,andthereisnobreathinthem

15Theyarevanity,andtheworkoferrors:inthetimeof theirvisitationtheyshallperish.

16TheportionofJacobisnotlikethem:forheisthe formerofallthings;andIsraelistherodofhisinheritance: TheLORDofhostsishisname.

8Yettheyobeyednot,norinclinedtheirear,butwalked everyoneintheimaginationoftheirevilheart:thereforeI willbringuponthemallthewordsofthiscovenant,which Icommandedthemtodo;buttheydidthemnot.

9AndtheLORDsaiduntome,Aconspiracyisfound amongthemenofJudah,andamongtheinhabitantsof Jerusalem.

10Theyareturnedbacktotheiniquitiesoftheir forefathers,whichrefusedtohearmywords;andtheywent afterothergodstoservethem:thehouseofIsraelandthe houseofJudahhavebrokenmycovenantwhichImade withtheirfathers

11ThereforethussaiththeLORD,Behold,Iwillbringevil uponthem,whichtheyshallnotbeabletoescape;and thoughtheyshallcryuntome,Iwillnothearkenuntothem 12ThenshallthecitiesofJudahandinhabitantsof Jerusalemgo,andcryuntothegodsuntowhomtheyoffer incense:buttheyshallnotsavethematallinthetimeof theirtrouble.

13Foraccordingtothenumberofthycitieswerethygods, OJudah;andaccordingtothenumberofthestreetsof Jerusalemhaveyesetupaltarstothatshamefulthing,even altarstoburnincenseuntoBaal

14Thereforepraynotthouforthispeople,neitherliftupa cryorprayerforthem:forIwillnotheartheminthetime thattheycryuntomefortheirtrouble

15Whathathmybelovedtodoinminehouse,seeingshe hathwroughtlewdnesswithmany,andtheholyfleshis passedfromthee?whenthoudoestevil,thenthourejoicest

16TheLORDcalledthyname,Agreenolivetree,fair,and ofgoodlyfruit:withthenoiseofagreattumulthehath kindledfireuponit,andthebranchesofitarebroken

17FortheLORDofhosts,thatplantedthee,hath pronouncedevilagainstthee,fortheevilofthehouseof IsraelandofthehouseofJudah,whichtheyhavedone againstthemselvestoprovokemetoangerinoffering incenseuntoBaal

18AndtheLORDhathgivenmeknowledgeofit,andI knowit:thenthoushewedstmetheirdoings

19ButIwaslikealamboranoxthatisbroughttothe slaughter;andIknewnotthattheyhaddeviseddevices againstme,saying,Letusdestroythetreewiththefruit thereof,andletuscuthimofffromthelandoftheliving, thathisnamemaybenomoreremembered

20But,OLORDofhosts,thatjudgestrighteously,that triestthereinsandtheheart,letmeseethyvengeanceon them:foruntotheehaveIrevealedmycause

21ThereforethussaiththeLORDofthemenofAnathoth, thatseekthylife,saying,Prophesynotinthenameofthe LORD,thatthoudienotbyourhand:

22ThereforethussaiththeLORDofhosts,Behold,Iwill punishthem:theyoungmenshalldiebythesword;their sonsandtheirdaughtersshalldiebyfamine:

23Andthereshallbenoremnantofthem:forIwillbring eviluponthemenofAnathoth,eventheyearoftheir visitation

CHAPTER12

1Righteousartthou,OLORD,whenIpleadwiththee:yet letmetalkwiththeeofthyjudgments:Whereforedoththe wayofthewickedprosper?whereforearealltheyhappy thatdealverytreacherously?

2Thouhastplantedthem,yea,theyhavetakenroot:they grow,yea,theybringforthfruit:thouartnearintheir mouth,andfarfromtheirreins.

3Butthou,OLORD,knowestme:thouhastseenme,and triedminehearttowardthee:pullthemoutlikesheepfor theslaughter,andpreparethemforthedayofslaughter.

4Howlongshallthelandmourn,andtheherbsofevery fieldwither,forthewickednessofthemthatdwelltherein? thebeastsareconsumed,andthebirds;becausetheysaid, Heshallnotseeourlastend

5Ifthouhastrunwiththefootmen,andtheyhavewearied thee,thenhowcanstthoucontendwithhorses?andifin thelandofpeace,whereinthoutrustedst,theyweariedthee, thenhowwiltthoudointheswellingofJordan?

6Foreventhybrethren,andthehouseofthyfather,even theyhavedealttreacherouslywiththee;yea,theyhave calledamultitudeafterthee:believethemnot,thoughthey speakfairwordsuntothee.

12Thespoilersarecomeuponallhighplacesthroughthe wilderness:fortheswordoftheLORDshalldevourfrom theoneendofthelandeventotheotherendoftheland:no fleshshallhavepeace

13Theyhavesownwheat,butshallreapthorns:theyhave putthemselvestopain,butshallnotprofit:andtheyshall beashamedofyourrevenuesbecauseofthefierceangerof theLORD

14ThussaiththeLORDagainstallmineevilneighbours, thattouchtheinheritancewhichIhavecausedmypeople Israeltoinherit;Behold,Iwillpluckthemoutoftheirland, andpluckoutthehouseofJudahfromamongthem.

15Anditshallcometopass,afterthatIhavepluckedthem outIwillreturn,andhavecompassiononthem,andwill bringthemagain,everymantohisheritage,andeveryman tohisland

16Anditshallcometopass,iftheywilldiligentlylearn thewaysofmypeople,toswearbymyname,TheLORD liveth;astheytaughtmypeopletoswearbyBaal;then shalltheybebuiltinthemidstofmypeople.

17Butiftheywillnotobey,Iwillutterlypluckupand destroythatnation,saiththeLORD

1ThussaiththeLORDuntome,Goandgettheealinen girdle,andputituponthyloins,andputitnotinwater

2SoIgotagirdleaccordingtothewordoftheLORD,and putitonmyloins.

3AndthewordoftheLORDcameuntomethesecond time,saying,

4Takethegirdlethatthouhastgot,whichisuponthyloins, andarise,gotoEuphrates,andhideitthereinaholeofthe rock

5SoIwent,andhiditbyEuphrates,astheLORD commandedme

6Anditcametopassaftermanydays,thattheLORDsaid untome,Arise,gotoEuphrates,andtakethegirdlefrom thence,whichIcommandedtheetohidethere

12Thereforethoushaltspeakuntothemthisword;Thus saiththeLORDGodofIsrael,Everybottleshallbefilled withwine:andtheyshallsayuntothee,Dowenot certainlyknowthateverybottleshallbefilledwithwine?

13Thenshaltthousayuntothem,ThussaiththeLORD, Behold,Iwillfillalltheinhabitantsofthisland,eventhe kingsthatsituponDavid'sthrone,andthepriests,andthe prophets,andalltheinhabitantsofJerusalem,with drunkenness

14AndIwilldashthemoneagainstanother,eventhe fathersandthesonstogether,saiththeLORD:Iwillnot pity,norspare,norhavemercy,butdestroythem

1ThewordoftheLORDthatcametoJeremiahconcerning thedearth.

2Judahmourneth,andthegatesthereoflanguish;theyare blackuntotheground;andthecryofJerusalemisgoneup

3Andtheirnobleshavesenttheirlittleonestothewaters: theycametothepits,andfoundnowater;theyreturned withtheirvesselsempty;theywereashamedand confounded,andcoveredtheirheads.

4Becausethegroundischapt,fortherewasnoraininthe earth,theplowmenwereashamed,theycoveredtheirheads 5Yea,thehindalsocalvedinthefield,andforsookit, becausetherewasnograss

6Andthewildassesdidstandinthehighplaces,they snuffedupthewindlikedragons;theireyesdidfail, becausetherewasnograss

7OLORD,thoughouriniquitiestestifyagainstus,dothou itforthyname'ssake:forourbackslidingsaremany;we havesinnedagainstthee

8OthehopeofIsrael,thesaviourthereofintimeoftrouble, whyshouldestthoubeasastrangerintheland,andasa wayfaringmanthatturnethasidetotarryforanight?

9Whyshouldestthoubeasamanastonied,asamighty manthatcannotsave?yetthou,OLORD,artinthemidst ofus,andwearecalledbythyname;leaveusnot

10ThussaiththeLORDuntothispeople,Thushavethey lovedtowander,theyhavenotrefrainedtheirfeet, thereforetheLORDdothnotacceptthem;hewillnow remembertheiriniquity,andvisittheirsins.

11ThensaidtheLORDuntome,Praynotforthispeople fortheirgood

12Whentheyfast,Iwillnotheartheircry;andwhenthey offerburntofferingandanoblation,Iwillnotacceptthem: butIwillconsumethembythesword,andbythefamine, andbythepestilence.

13ThensaidI,Ah,LordGOD!behold,theprophetssay untothem,Yeshallnotseethesword,neithershallyehave famine;butIwillgiveyouassuredpeaceinthisplace

14ThentheLORDsaiduntome,Theprophetsprophesy liesinmyname:Isentthemnot,neitherhaveI commandedthem,neitherspakeuntothem:theyprophesy untoyouafalsevisionanddivination,andathingof nought,andthedeceitoftheirheart

15ThereforethussaiththeLORDconcerningtheprophets thatprophesyinmyname,andIsentthemnot,yettheysay, Swordandfamineshallnotbeinthisland;Byswordand famineshallthoseprophetsbeconsumed.

16Andthepeopletowhomtheyprophesyshallbecastout inthestreetsofJerusalembecauseofthefamineandthe sword;andtheyshallhavenonetoburythem,them,their wives,northeirsons,northeirdaughters:forIwillpour theirwickednessuponthem

17Thereforethoushaltsaythisworduntothem;Letmine eyesrundownwithtearsnightandday,andletthemnot cease:forthevirgindaughterofmypeopleisbrokenwith agreatbreach,withaverygrievousblow.

18IfIgoforthintothefield,thenbeholdtheslainwiththe sword!andifIenterintothecity,thenbeholdthemthatare sickwithfamine!yea,boththeprophetandthepriestgo aboutintoalandthattheyknownot

19HastthouutterlyrejectedJudah?haththysoullothed Zion?whyhastthousmittenus,andthereisnohealingfor us?welookedforpeace,andthereisnogood;andforthe timeofhealing,andbeholdtrouble!

20Weacknowledge,OLORD,ourwickedness,andthe iniquityofourfathers:forwehavesinnedagainstthee 21Donotabhorus,forthyname'ssake,donotdisgrace thethroneofthyglory:remember,breaknotthycovenant withus

2Anditshallcometopass,iftheysayuntothee,Whither shallwegoforth?thenthoushalttellthem,Thussaiththe LORD;Suchasarefordeath,todeath;andsuchasarefor thesword,tothesword;andsuchasareforthefamine,to thefamine;andsuchasareforthecaptivity,tothe captivity

8Theirwidowsareincreasedtomeabovethesandofthe seas:Ihavebroughtuponthemagainstthemotherofthe youngmenaspoileratnoonday:Ihavecausedhimtofall uponitsuddenly,andterrorsuponthecity.

9Shethathathbornesevenlanguisheth:shehathgivenup theghost;hersunisgonedownwhileitwasyetday:she hathbeenashamedandconfounded:andtheresidueof themwillIdelivertotheswordbeforetheirenemies,saith theLORD

10Woeisme,mymother,thatthouhastbornemeaman ofstrifeandamanofcontentiontothewholeearth!Ihave neitherlentonusury,normenhavelenttomeonusury; yeteveryoneofthemdothcurseme.

11TheLORDsaid,Verilyitshallbewellwiththyremnant; verilyIwillcausetheenemytoentreattheewellinthe timeofevilandinthetimeofaffliction.

12Shallironbreakthenorthernironandthesteel?

13ThysubstanceandthytreasureswillIgivetothespoil withoutprice,andthatforallthysins,eveninallthy borders

14AndIwillmaketheetopasswiththineenemiesintoa landwhichthouknowestnot:forafireiskindledinmine anger,whichshallburnuponyou

15OLORD,thouknowest:rememberme,andvisitme, andrevengemeofmypersecutors;takemenotawayinthy longsuffering:knowthatforthysakeIhavesuffered rebuke

16Thywordswerefound,andIdideatthem;andthyword wasuntomethejoyandrejoicingofmineheart:forIam calledbythyname,OLORDGodofhosts

17Isatnotintheassemblyofthemockers,norrejoiced;I satalonebecauseofthyhand:forthouhastfilledmewith indignation

18Whyismypainperpetual,andmywoundincurable, whichrefusethtobehealed?wiltthoubealtogetherunto measaliar,andaswatersthatfail?

19ThereforethussaiththeLORD,Ifthoureturn,thenwill Ibringtheeagain,andthoushaltstandbeforeme:andif thoutakeforththepreciousfromthevile,thoushaltbeas mymouth:letthemreturnuntothee;butreturnnotthou untothem

20AndIwillmaketheeuntothispeopleafencedbrasen wall:andtheyshallfightagainstthee,buttheyshallnot prevailagainstthee:forIamwiththeetosavetheeandto deliverthee,saiththeLORD

1ThewordoftheLORDcamealsountome,saying, 2Thoushaltnottaketheeawife,neithershaltthouhave sonsordaughtersinthisplace

3ForthussaiththeLORDconcerningthesonsand concerningthedaughtersthatareborninthisplace,and concerningtheirmothersthatbarethem,andconcerning theirfathersthatbegattheminthisland;

4Theyshalldieofgrievousdeaths;theyshallnotbe lamented;neithershalltheybeburied;buttheyshallbeas dunguponthefaceoftheearth:andtheyshallbe consumedbythesword,andbyfamine;andtheircarcases shallbemeatforthefowlsofheaven,andforthebeastsof theearth

5ForthussaiththeLORD,Enternotintothehouseof mourning,neithergotolamentnorbemoanthem:forI havetakenawaymypeacefromthispeople,saiththe LORD,evenlovingkindnessandmercies

6Boththegreatandthesmallshalldieinthisland:they shallnotbeburied,neithershallmenlamentforthem,nor cutthemselves,normakethemselvesbaldforthem:

7Neithershallmentearthemselvesfortheminmourning, tocomfortthemforthedead;neithershallmengivethem thecupofconsolationtodrinkfortheirfatherorfortheir mother

8Thoushaltnotalsogointothehouseoffeasting,tosit withthemtoeatandtodrink

9ForthussaiththeLORDofhosts,theGodofIsrael; Behold,Iwillcausetoceaseoutofthisplaceinyoureyes, andinyourdays,thevoiceofmirth,andthevoiceof gladness,thevoiceofthebridegroom,andthevoiceofthe bride.

10Anditshallcometopass,whenthoushaltshewthis peopleallthesewords,andtheyshallsayuntothee, WhereforehaththeLORDpronouncedallthisgreatevil againstus?orwhatisouriniquity?orwhatisoursinthat wehavecommittedagainsttheLORDourGod?

11Thenshaltthousayuntothem,Becauseyourfathers haveforsakenme,saiththeLORD,andhavewalkedafter othergods,andhaveservedthem,andhaveworshipped them,andhaveforsakenme,andhavenotkeptmylaw;

12Andyehavedoneworsethanyourfathers;for,behold, yewalkeveryoneaftertheimaginationofhisevilheart, thattheymaynothearkenuntome:

13ThereforewillIcastyououtofthislandintoalandthat yeknownot,neitheryenoryourfathers;andthereshallye serveothergodsdayandnight;whereIwillnotshewyou favour

14Therefore,behold,thedayscome,saiththeLORD,that itshallnomorebesaid,TheLORDliveth,thatbroughtup thechildrenofIsraeloutofthelandofEgypt;

15But,TheLORDliveth,thatbroughtupthechildrenof Israelfromthelandofthenorth,andfromallthelands whitherhehaddriventhem:andIwillbringthemagain intotheirlandthatIgaveuntotheirfathers

16Behold,Iwillsendformanyfishers,saiththeLORD, andtheyshallfishthem;andafterwillIsendformany hunters,andtheyshallhuntthemfromeverymountain, andfromeveryhill,andoutoftheholesoftherocks

17Formineeyesareuponalltheirways:theyarenothid frommyface,neitheristheiriniquityhidfrommineeyes.

18AndfirstIwillrecompensetheiriniquityandtheirsin double;becausetheyhavedefiledmyland,theyhavefilled mineinheritancewiththecarcasesoftheirdetestableand abominablethings

19OLORD,mystrength,andmyfortress,andmyrefuge inthedayofaffliction,theGentilesshallcomeuntothee fromtheendsoftheearth,andshallsay,Surelyourfathers haveinheritedlies,vanity,andthingswhereinthereisno profit.

20Shallamanmakegodsuntohimself,andtheyareno gods?

21Therefore,behold,Iwillthisoncecausethemtoknow, Iwillcausethemtoknowminehandandmymight;and theyshallknowthatmynameisTheLORD

CHAPTER17

1ThesinofJudahiswrittenwithapenofiron,andwith thepointofadiamond:itisgravenuponthetableoftheir heart,anduponthehornsofyouraltars;

2Whilsttheirchildrenremembertheiraltarsandtheir grovesbythegreentreesuponthehighhills

3Omymountaininthefield,Iwillgivethysubstanceand allthytreasurestothespoil,andthyhighplacesforsin, throughoutallthyborders

4Andthou,eventhyself,shaltdiscontinuefromthine heritagethatIgavethee;andIwillcausetheetoserve thineenemiesinthelandwhichthouknowestnot:forye havekindledafireinmineanger,whichshallburnforever.

5ThussaiththeLORD;Cursedbethemanthattrustethin man,andmakethfleshhisarm,andwhoseheartdeparteth fromtheLORD.

6Forheshallbeliketheheathinthedesert,andshallnot seewhengoodcometh;butshallinhabittheparchedplaces inthewilderness,inasaltlandandnotinhabited.

7BlessedisthemanthattrustethintheLORD,andwhose hopetheLORDis

8Forheshallbeasatreeplantedbythewaters,andthat spreadethoutherrootsbytheriver,andshallnotseewhen heatcometh,butherleafshallbegreen;andshallnotbe carefulintheyearofdrought,neithershallceasefrom yieldingfruit

9Theheartisdeceitfulaboveallthings,anddesperately wicked:whocanknowit?

10ItheLORDsearchtheheart,Itrythereins,eventogive everymanaccordingtohisways,andaccordingtothefruit ofhisdoings.

11Asthepartridgesittethoneggs,andhatcheththemnot; sohethatgettethriches,andnotbyright,shallleavethem inthemidstofhisdays,andathisendshallbeafool.

12Aglorioushighthronefromthebeginningistheplace ofoursanctuary.

13OLORD,thehopeofIsrael,allthatforsaketheeshall beashamed,andtheythatdepartfrommeshallbewritten intheearth,becausetheyhaveforsakentheLORD,the fountainoflivingwaters.

14Healme,OLORD,andIshallbehealed;saveme,andI shallbesaved:forthouartmypraise

15Behold,theysayuntome,Whereisthewordofthe LORD?letitcomenow

16Asforme,Ihavenothastenedfrombeingapastorto followthee:neitherhaveIdesiredthewoefulday;thou knowest:thatwhichcameoutofmylipswasrightbefore thee.

17Benotaterroruntome:thouartmyhopeinthedayof evil

18Letthembeconfoundedthatpersecuteme,butletnot mebeconfounded:letthembedismayed,butletnotmebe dismayed:bringuponthemthedayofevil,anddestroy themwithdoubledestruction.

19ThussaidtheLORDuntome;Goandstandinthegate ofthechildrenofthepeople,wherebythekingsofJudah comein,andbythewhichtheygoout,andinallthegates ofJerusalem;

20Andsayuntothem,HearyethewordoftheLORD,ye kingsofJudah,andallJudah,andalltheinhabitantsof Jerusalem,thatenterinbythesegates:

21ThussaiththeLORD;Takeheedtoyourselves,and bearnoburdenonthesabbathday,norbringitinbythe gatesofJerusalem;

22Neithercarryforthaburdenoutofyourhousesonthe sabbathday,neitherdoyeanywork,buthallowyethe sabbathday,asIcommandedyourfathers

23Buttheyobeyednot,neitherinclinedtheirear,butmade theirneckstiff,thattheymightnothear,norreceive instruction

24Anditshallcometopass,ifyediligentlyhearkenunto me,saiththeLORD,tobringinnoburdenthroughthe gatesofthiscityonthesabbathday,buthallowthesabbath day,todonoworktherein;

25Thenshallthereenterintothegatesofthiscitykings andprincessittinguponthethroneofDavid,ridingin chariotsandonhorses,they,andtheirprinces,themenof Judah,andtheinhabitantsofJerusalem:andthiscityshall remainforever

26AndtheyshallcomefromthecitiesofJudah,andfrom theplacesaboutJerusalem,andfromthelandofBenjamin, andfromtheplain,andfromthemountains,andfromthe south,bringingburntofferings,andsacrifices,andmeat offerings,andincense,andbringingsacrificesofpraise, untothehouseoftheLORD

27Butifyewillnothearkenuntometohallowthesabbath day,andnottobearaburden,evenenteringinatthegates ofJerusalemonthesabbathday;thenwillIkindleafirein thegatesthereof,anditshalldevourthepalacesof Jerusalem,anditshallnotbequenched.

1ThewordwhichcametoJeremiahfromtheLORD, saying,

2Arise,andgodowntothepotter'shouse,andthereIwill causetheetohearmywords

3ThenIwentdowntothepotter'shouse,and,behold,he wroughtaworkonthewheels

4Andthevesselthathemadeofclaywasmarredinthe handofthepotter:sohemadeitagainanothervessel,as seemedgoodtothepottertomakeit.

5ThenthewordoftheLORDcametome,saying, 6OhouseofIsrael,cannotIdowithyouasthispotter? saiththeLORDBehold,astheclayisinthepotter'shand, soareyeinminehand,OhouseofIsrael

7AtwhatinstantIshallspeakconcerninganation,and concerningakingdom,topluckup,andtopulldown,and todestroyit;

8Ifthatnation,againstwhomIhavepronounced,turn fromtheirevil,IwillrepentoftheevilthatIthoughttodo untothem

9AndatwhatinstantIshallspeakconcerninganation,and concerningakingdom,tobuildandtoplantit;

10Ifitdoevilinmysight,thatitobeynotmyvoice,thenI willrepentofthegood,wherewithIsaidIwouldbenefit them.

11Nowthereforegoto,speaktothemenofJudah,andto theinhabitantsofJerusalem,saying,ThussaiththeLORD; Behold,Iframeevilagainstyou,anddeviseadevice againstyou:returnyenoweveryonefromhisevilway, andmakeyourwaysandyourdoingsgood

12Andtheysaid,Thereisnohope:butwewillwalkafter ourowndevices,andwewilleveryonedotheimagination ofhisevilheart.

13ThereforethussaiththeLORD;Askyenowamongthe heathen,whohathheardsuchthings:thevirginofIsrael hathdoneaveryhorriblething.

14WillamanleavethesnowofLebanonwhichcometh fromtherockofthefield?orshallthecoldflowingwaters thatcomefromanotherplacebeforsaken?

15Becausemypeoplehathforgottenme,theyhaveburned incensetovanity,andtheyhavecausedthemtostumblein theirwaysfromtheancientpaths,towalkinpaths,ina waynotcastup;

16Tomaketheirlanddesolate,andaperpetualhissing; everyonethatpasseththerebyshallbeastonished,andwag hishead

17Iwillscatterthemaswithaneastwindbeforethe enemy;Iwillshewthemtheback,andnottheface,inthe dayoftheircalamity

18Thensaidthey,Come,andletusdevisedevicesagainst Jeremiah;forthelawshallnotperishfromthepriest,nor counselfromthewise,northewordfromtheprophet Come,andletussmitehimwiththetongue,andletusnot giveheedtoanyofhiswords.

19Giveheedtome,OLORD,andhearkentothevoiceof themthatcontendwithme

20Shallevilberecompensedforgood?fortheyhave diggedapitformysoulRememberthatIstoodbefore theetospeakgoodforthem,andtoturnawaythywrath fromthem.

21Thereforedeliveruptheirchildrentothefamine,and pourouttheirbloodbytheforceofthesword;andlettheir wivesbebereavedoftheirchildren,andbewidows;andlet theirmenbeputtodeath;lettheiryoungmenbeslainby theswordinbattle

22Letacrybeheardfromtheirhouses,whenthoushalt bringatroopsuddenlyuponthem:fortheyhavediggeda pittotakeme,andhidsnaresformyfeet.

1ThussaiththeLORD,Goandgetapotter'searthenbottle, andtakeoftheancientsofthepeople,andoftheancients ofthepriests;

2AndgoforthuntothevalleyofthesonofHinnom,which isbytheentryoftheeastgate,andproclaimtherethe wordsthatIshalltellthee,

3Andsay,HearyethewordoftheLORD,Okingsof Judah,andinhabitantsofJerusalem;ThussaiththeLORD ofhosts,theGodofIsrael;Behold,Iwillbringevilupon thisplace,thewhichwhosoeverheareth,hisearsshall tingle.

4Becausetheyhaveforsakenme,andhaveestrangedthis place,andhaveburnedincenseinituntoothergods,whom neithertheynortheirfathershaveknown,northekingsof Judah,andhavefilledthisplacewiththebloodof innocents;

5TheyhavebuiltalsothehighplacesofBaal,toburntheir sonswithfireforburntofferingsuntoBaal,whichI commandednot,norspakeit,neithercameitintomymind: 6Therefore,behold,thedayscome,saiththeLORD,that thisplaceshallnomorebecalledTophet,norThevalleyof thesonofHinnom,butThevalleyofslaughter.

7AndIwillmakevoidthecounselofJudahandJerusalem inthisplace;andIwillcausethemtofallbythesword beforetheirenemies,andbythehandsofthemthatseek theirlives:andtheircarcaseswillIgivetobemeatforthe fowlsoftheheaven,andforthebeastsoftheearth

8AndIwillmakethiscitydesolate,andanhissing;every onethatpasseththerebyshallbeastonishedandhiss becauseofalltheplaguesthereof

9AndIwillcausethemtoeatthefleshoftheirsonsand thefleshoftheirdaughters,andtheyshalleateveryonethe fleshofhisfriendinthesiegeandstraitness,wherewith theirenemies,andtheythatseektheirlives,shallstraiten them

10Thenshaltthoubreakthebottleinthesightofthemen thatgowiththee,

11Andshaltsayuntothem,ThussaiththeLORDofhosts; EvensowillIbreakthispeopleandthiscity,asone breakethapotter'svessel,thatcannotbemadewholeagain: andtheyshallburytheminTophet,tilltherebenoplaceto bury

12ThuswillIdountothisplace,saiththeLORD,andto theinhabitantsthereof,andevenmakethiscityasTophet: 13AndthehousesofJerusalem,andthehousesofthe kingsofJudah,shallbedefiledastheplaceofTophet, becauseofallthehousesuponwhoseroofstheyhave burnedincenseuntoallthehostofheaven,andhave pouredoutdrinkofferingsuntoothergods.

14ThencameJeremiahfromTophet,whithertheLORD hadsenthimtoprophesy;andhestoodinthecourtofthe LORD'Shouse;andsaidtoallthepeople,

15ThussaiththeLORDofhosts,theGodofIsrael;Behold, Iwillbringuponthiscityanduponallhertownsallthe evilthatIhavepronouncedagainstit,becausetheyhave hardenedtheirnecks,thattheymightnothearmywords

CHAPTER20

1NowPashurthesonofImmerthepriest,whowasalso chiefgovernorinthehouseoftheLORD,heardthat Jeremiahprophesiedthesethings

2ThenPashursmoteJeremiahtheprophet,andputhimin thestocksthatwereinthehighgateofBenjamin,which wasbythehouseoftheLORD

3Anditcametopassonthemorrow,thatPashurbrought forthJeremiahoutofthestocksThensaidJeremiahunto

him,TheLORDhathnotcalledthynamePashur,but Magormissabib.

4ForthussaiththeLORD,Behold,Iwillmaketheea terrortothyself,andtoallthyfriends:andtheyshallfall bytheswordoftheirenemies,andthineeyesshallbehold it:andIwillgiveallJudahintothehandofthekingof Babylon,andheshallcarrythemcaptiveintoBabylon,and shallslaythemwiththesword.

5MoreoverIwilldeliverallthestrengthofthiscity,and allthelaboursthereof,andallthepreciousthingsthereof, andallthetreasuresofthekingsofJudahwillIgiveinto thehandoftheirenemies,whichshallspoilthem,andtake them,andcarrythemtoBabylon.

6Andthou,Pashur,andallthatdwellinthinehouseshall gointocaptivity:andthoushaltcometoBabylon,and therethoushaltdie,andshaltbeburiedthere,thou,andall thyfriends,towhomthouhastprophesiedlies

7OLORD,thouhastdeceivedme,andIwasdeceived: thouartstrongerthanI,andhastprevailed:Iaminderision daily,everyonemockethme

8ForsinceIspake,Icriedout,Icriedviolenceandspoil; becausethewordoftheLORDwasmadeareproachunto me,andaderision,daily

9ThenIsaid,Iwillnotmakementionofhim,norspeak anymoreinhisname.Buthiswordwasinmineheartasa burningfireshutupinmybones,andIwaswearywith forbearing,andIcouldnotstay

10ForIheardthedefamingofmany,fearoneveryside. Report,saythey,andwewillreportitAllmyfamiliars watchedformyhalting,saying,Peradventurehewillbe enticed,andweshallprevailagainsthim,andweshalltake ourrevengeonhim

11ButtheLORDiswithmeasamightyterribleone: thereforemypersecutorsshallstumble,andtheyshallnot prevail:theyshallbegreatlyashamed;fortheyshallnot prosper:theireverlastingconfusionshallneverbeforgotten

12But,OLORDofhosts,thattriesttherighteous,and seestthereinsandtheheart,letmeseethyvengeanceon them:foruntotheehaveIopenedmycause

13SinguntotheLORD,praiseyetheLORD:forhehath deliveredthesoulofthepoorfromthehandofevildoers

14CursedbethedaywhereinIwasborn:letnottheday whereinmymotherbaremebeblessed.

15Cursedbethemanwhobroughttidingstomyfather, saying,Amanchildisbornuntothee;makinghimvery glad.

16AndletthatmanbeasthecitieswhichtheLORD overthrew,andrepentednot:andlethimhearthecryinthe morning,andtheshoutingatnoontide;

17Becauseheslewmenotfromthewomb;orthatmy mothermighthavebeenmygrave,andherwombtobe alwaysgreatwithme.

18WhereforecameIforthoutofthewombtoseelabour andsorrow,thatmydaysshouldbeconsumedwithshame?

CHAPTER21

1ThewordwhichcameuntoJeremiahfromtheLORD, whenkingZedekiahsentuntohimPashurthesonof Melchiah,andZephaniahthesonofMaaseiahthepriest, saying,

2Enquire,Ipraythee,oftheLORDforus;for NebuchadrezzarkingofBabylonmakethwaragainstus;if sobethattheLORDwilldealwithusaccordingtoallhis wondrousworks,thathemaygoupfromus.

3ThensaidJeremiahuntothem,Thusshallyesayto Zedekiah:

4ThussaiththeLORDGodofIsrael;Behold,Iwillturn backtheweaponsofwarthatareinyourhands,wherewith yefightagainstthekingofBabylon,andagainstthe Chaldeans,whichbesiegeyouwithoutthewalls,andIwill assemblethemintothemidstofthiscity

5AndImyselfwillfightagainstyouwithanoutstretched handandwithastrongarm,eveninanger,andinfury,and ingreatwrath

6AndIwillsmitetheinhabitantsofthiscity,bothmanand beast:theyshalldieofagreatpestilence.

7Andafterward,saiththeLORD,IwilldeliverZedekiah kingofJudah,andhisservants,andthepeople,andsuchas areleftinthiscityfromthepestilence,fromthesword,and fromthefamine,intothehandofNebuchadrezzarkingof Babylon,andintothehandoftheirenemies,andintothe handofthosethatseektheirlife:andheshallsmitethem withtheedgeofthesword;heshallnotsparethem,neither havepity,norhavemercy

8Anduntothispeoplethoushaltsay,Thussaiththe LORD;Behold,Isetbeforeyouthewayoflife,andthe wayofdeath

9Hethatabidethinthiscityshalldiebythesword,andby thefamine,andbythepestilence:buthethatgoethout,and fallethtotheChaldeansthatbesiegeyou,heshalllive,and hislifeshallbeuntohimforaprey.

10ForIhavesetmyfaceagainstthiscityforevil,andnot forgood,saiththeLORD:itshallbegivenintothehandof thekingofBabylon,andheshallburnitwithfire.

11AndtouchingthehouseofthekingofJudah,say,Hear yethewordoftheLORD;

12OhouseofDavid,thussaiththeLORD;Execute judgmentinthemorning,anddeliverhimthatisspoiled outofthehandoftheoppressor,lestmyfurygooutlike fire,andburnthatnonecanquenchit,becauseoftheevil ofyourdoings

13Behold,Iamagainstthee,Oinhabitantofthevalley, androckoftheplain,saiththeLORD;whichsay,Who shallcomedownagainstus?orwhoshallenterintoour habitations?

14ButIwillpunishyouaccordingtothefruitofyour doings,saiththeLORD:andIwillkindleafireinthe forestthereof,anditshalldevourallthingsroundaboutit.

1ThussaiththeLORD;Godowntothehouseoftheking ofJudah,andspeaktherethisword,

2Andsay,HearthewordoftheLORD,OkingofJudah, thatsittestuponthethroneofDavid,thou,andthyservants, andthypeoplethatenterinbythesegates:

3ThussaiththeLORD;Executeyejudgmentand righteousness,anddeliverthespoiledoutofthehandofthe oppressor:anddonowrong,donoviolencetothestranger, thefatherless,northewidow,neithershedinnocentblood inthisplace

JEREMIAH

4Forifyedothisthingindeed,thenshallthereenterinby thegatesofthishousekingssittinguponthethroneof David,ridinginchariotsandonhorses,he,andhisservants, andhispeople.

5Butifyewillnothearthesewords,Iswearbymyself, saiththeLORD,thatthishouseshallbecomeadesolation

6ForthussaiththeLORDuntotheking'shouseofJudah; ThouartGileaduntome,andtheheadofLebanon:yet surelyIwillmaketheeawilderness,andcitieswhichare notinhabited

7AndIwillpreparedestroyersagainstthee,everyonewith hisweapons:andtheyshallcutdownthychoicecedars, andcastthemintothefire.

8Andmanynationsshallpassbythiscity,andtheyshall sayeverymantohisneighbour,WhereforehaththeLORD donethusuntothisgreatcity?

9Thentheyshallanswer,Becausetheyhaveforsakenthe covenantoftheLORDtheirGod,andworshippedother gods,andservedthem.

10Weepyenotforthedead,neitherbemoanhim:but weepsoreforhimthatgoethaway:forheshallreturnno more,norseehisnativecountry.

11ForthussaiththeLORDtouchingShallumthesonof JosiahkingofJudah,whichreignedinsteadofJosiahhis father,whichwentforthoutofthisplace;Heshallnot returnthitheranymore:

12Butheshalldieintheplacewhithertheyhaveledhim captive,andshallseethislandnomore.

13Woeuntohimthatbuildethhishouseby unrighteousness,andhischambersbywrong;thatusethhis neighbour'sservicewithoutwages,andgivethhimnotfor hiswork;

14Thatsaith,Iwillbuildmeawidehouseandlarge chambers,andcuttethhimoutwindows;anditiscieled withcedar,andpaintedwithvermilion

15Shaltthoureign,becausethouclosestthyselfincedar? didnotthyfathereatanddrink,anddojudgmentand justice,andthenitwaswellwithhim?

16Hejudgedthecauseofthepoorandneedy;thenitwas wellwithhim:wasnotthistoknowme?saiththeLORD.

17Butthineeyesandthineheartarenotbutforthy covetousness,andfortoshedinnocentblood,andfor oppression,andforviolence,todoit.

18ThereforethussaiththeLORDconcerningJehoiakim thesonofJosiahkingofJudah;Theyshallnotlamentfor him,saying,Ahmybrother!or,Ahsister!theyshallnot lamentforhim,saying,Ahlord!or,Ahhisglory!

19Heshallbeburiedwiththeburialofanass,drawnand castforthbeyondthegatesofJerusalem

20GouptoLebanon,andcry;andliftupthyvoicein Bashan,andcryfromthepassages:forallthyloversare destroyed.

21Ispakeuntotheeinthyprosperity;butthousaidst,I willnothearThishathbeenthymannerfromthyyouth, thatthouobeyedstnotmyvoice

22Thewindshalleatupallthypastors,andthylovers shallgointocaptivity:surelythenshaltthoubeashamed andconfoundedforallthywickedness

23OinhabitantofLebanon,thatmakestthynestinthe cedars,howgraciousshaltthoubewhenpangscomeupon thee,thepainasofawomanintravail!

24AsIlive,saiththeLORD,thoughConiahthesonof JehoiakimkingofJudahwerethesignetuponmyright hand,yetwouldIplucktheethence;

25AndIwillgivetheeintothehandofthemthatseekthy life,andintothehandofthemwhosefacethoufearest, evenintothehandofNebuchadrezzarkingofBabylon,and intothehandoftheChaldeans

26AndIwillcasttheeout,andthymotherthatbarethee, intoanothercountry,whereyewerenotborn;andthere shallyedie

27Buttothelandwhereuntotheydesiretoreturn,thither shalltheynotreturn

28IsthismanConiahadespisedbrokenidol?ishea vesselwhereinisnopleasure?whereforearetheycastout, heandhisseed,andarecastintoalandwhichtheyknow not?

29Oearth,earth,earth,hearthewordoftheLORD

30ThussaiththeLORD,Writeyethismanchildless,a manthatshallnotprosperinhisdays:fornomanofhis seedshallprosper,sittinguponthethroneofDavid,and rulinganymoreinJudah

CHAPTER23

1Woebeuntothepastorsthatdestroyandscatterthe sheepofmypasture!saiththeLORD

2ThereforethussaiththeLORDGodofIsraelagainstthe pastorsthatfeedmypeople;Yehavescatteredmyflock, anddriventhemaway,andhavenotvisitedthem:behold,I willvisituponyoutheevilofyourdoings,saiththeLORD 3AndIwillgathertheremnantofmyflockoutofall countrieswhitherIhavedriventhem,andwillbringthem againtotheirfolds;andtheyshallbefruitfulandincrease 4AndIwillsetupshepherdsoverthemwhichshallfeed them:andtheyshallfearnomore,norbedismayed,neither shalltheybelacking,saiththeLORD

5Behold,thedayscome,saiththeLORD,thatIwillraise untoDavidarighteousBranch,andaKingshallreignand prosper,andshallexecutejudgmentandjusticeintheearth 6InhisdaysJudahshallbesaved,andIsraelshalldwell safely:andthisishisnamewherebyheshallbecalled, THELORDOURRIGHTEOUSNESS

7Therefore,behold,thedayscome,saiththeLORD,that theyshallnomoresay,TheLORDliveth,whichbrought upthechildrenofIsraeloutofthelandofEgypt; 8But,TheLORDliveth,whichbroughtupandwhichled theseedofthehouseofIsraeloutofthenorthcountry,and fromallcountrieswhitherIhaddriventhem;andtheyshall dwellintheirownland

9Mineheartwithinmeisbrokenbecauseoftheprophets; allmybonesshake;Iamlikeadrunkenman,andlikea manwhomwinehathovercome,becauseoftheLORD, andbecauseofthewordsofhisholiness

10Forthelandisfullofadulterers;forbecauseof swearingthelandmourneth;thepleasantplacesofthe wildernessaredriedup,andtheircourseisevil,andtheir forceisnotright.

11Forbothprophetandpriestareprofane;yea,inmy househaveIfoundtheirwickedness,saiththeLORD

12Whereforetheirwayshallbeuntothemasslippery waysinthedarkness:theyshallbedrivenon,andfall

therein:forIwillbringeviluponthem,eventheyearof theirvisitation,saiththeLORD.

13AndIhaveseenfollyintheprophetsofSamaria;they prophesiedinBaal,andcausedmypeopleIsraeltoerr.

14IhaveseenalsointheprophetsofJerusalemanhorrible thing:theycommitadultery,andwalkinlies:they strengthenalsothehandsofevildoers,thatnonedoth returnfromhiswickedness:theyareallofthemuntomeas Sodom,andtheinhabitantsthereofasGomorrah

15ThereforethussaiththeLORDofhostsconcerningthe prophets;Behold,Iwillfeedthemwithwormwood,and makethemdrinkthewaterofgall:forfromtheprophetsof Jerusalemisprofanenessgoneforthintoalltheland.

16ThussaiththeLORDofhosts,Hearkennotuntothe wordsoftheprophetsthatprophesyuntoyou:theymake youvain:theyspeakavisionoftheirownheart,andnot outofthemouthoftheLORD

17Theysaystilluntothemthatdespiseme,TheLORD hathsaid,Yeshallhavepeace;andtheysayuntoeveryone thatwalkethaftertheimaginationofhisownheart,Noevil shallcomeuponyou

18ForwhohathstoodinthecounseloftheLORD,and hathperceivedandheardhisword?whohathmarkedhis word,andheardit?

19Behold,awhirlwindoftheLORDisgoneforthinfury, evenagrievouswhirlwind:itshallfallgrievouslyuponthe headofthewicked

20TheangeroftheLORDshallnotreturn,untilhehave executed,andtillhehaveperformedthethoughtsofhis heart:inthelatterdaysyeshallconsideritperfectly 21Ihavenotsenttheseprophets,yettheyran:Ihavenot spokentothem,yettheyprophesied

22Butiftheyhadstoodinmycounsel,andhadcausedmy peopletohearmywords,thentheyshouldhaveturned themfromtheirevilway,andfromtheeviloftheirdoings

23AmIaGodathand,saiththeLORD,andnotaGod afaroff?

24CananyhidehimselfinsecretplacesthatIshallnotsee him?saiththeLORDDonotIfillheavenandearth?saith theLORD.

25Ihaveheardwhattheprophetssaid,thatprophesylies inmyname,saying,Ihavedreamed,Ihavedreamed 26Howlongshallthisbeintheheartoftheprophetsthat prophesylies?yea,theyareprophetsofthedeceitoftheir ownheart;

27Whichthinktocausemypeopletoforgetmynameby theirdreamswhichtheytelleverymantohisneighbour,as theirfathershaveforgottenmynameforBaal.

28Theprophetthathathadream,lethimtelladream;and hethathathmyword,lethimspeakmywordfaithfully Whatisthechafftothewheat?saiththeLORD

29Isnotmywordlikeasafire?saiththeLORD;andlike ahammerthatbreakeththerockinpieces?

30Therefore,behold,Iamagainsttheprophets,saiththe LORD,thatstealmywordseveryonefromhisneighbour 31Behold,Iamagainsttheprophets,saiththeLORD,that usetheirtongues,andsay,Hesaith.

32Behold,Iamagainstthemthatprophesyfalsedreams, saiththeLORD,anddotellthem,andcausemypeopleto errbytheirlies,andbytheirlightness;yetIsentthemnot, norcommandedthem:thereforetheyshallnotprofitthis peopleatall,saiththeLORD

33Andwhenthispeople,ortheprophet,orapriest,shall askthee,saying,WhatistheburdenoftheLORD?thou shaltthensayuntothem,Whatburden?Iwillevenforsake you,saiththeLORD.

34Andasfortheprophet,andthepriest,andthepeople, thatshallsay,TheburdenoftheLORD,Iwillevenpunish thatmanandhishouse

35Thusshallyesayeveryonetohisneighbour,andevery onetohisbrother,WhathaththeLORDanswered?and, WhathaththeLORDspoken?

36AndtheburdenoftheLORDshallyementionnomore: foreveryman'swordshallbehisburden;foryehave pervertedthewordsofthelivingGod,oftheLORDof hostsourGod

37Thusshaltthousaytotheprophet,WhathaththeLORD answeredthee?and,WhathaththeLORDspoken?

38Butsinceyesay,TheburdenoftheLORD;therefore thussaiththeLORD;Becauseyesaythisword,The burdenoftheLORD,andIhavesentuntoyou,saying,Ye shallnotsay,TheburdenoftheLORD;

39Therefore,behold,I,evenI,willutterlyforgetyou,and Iwillforsakeyou,andthecitythatIgaveyouandyour fathers,andcastyououtofmypresence:

40AndIwillbringaneverlastingreproachuponyou,and aperpetualshame,whichshallnotbeforgotten.

CHAPTER24

1TheLORDshewedme,and,behold,twobasketsoffigs weresetbeforethetempleoftheLORD,afterthat NebuchadrezzarkingofBabylonhadcarriedawaycaptive JeconiahthesonofJehoiakimkingofJudah,andthe princesofJudah,withthecarpentersandsmiths,from Jerusalem,andhadbroughtthemtoBabylon.

2Onebaskethadverygoodfigs,evenlikethefigsthatare firstripe:andtheotherbaskethadverynaughtyfigs,which couldnotbeeaten,theyweresobad.

3ThensaidtheLORDuntome,Whatseestthou,Jeremiah? AndIsaid,Figs;thegoodfigs,verygood;andtheevil, veryevil,thatcannotbeeaten,theyaresoevil.

4AgainthewordoftheLORDcameuntome,saying, 5ThussaiththeLORD,theGodofIsrael;Likethesegood figs,sowillIacknowledgethemthatarecarriedaway captiveofJudah,whomIhavesentoutofthisplaceinto thelandoftheChaldeansfortheirgood

6ForIwillsetmineeyesuponthemforgood,andIwill bringthemagaintothisland:andIwillbuildthem,andnot pullthemdown;andIwillplantthem,andnotpluckthem up

7AndIwillgivethemanhearttoknowme,thatIamthe LORD:andtheyshallbemypeople,andIwillbetheir God:fortheyshallreturnuntomewiththeirwholeheart.

8Andastheevilfigs,whichcannotbeeaten,theyareso evil;surelythussaiththeLORD,SowillIgiveZedekiah thekingofJudah,andhisprinces,andtheresidueof Jerusalem,thatremaininthisland,andthemthatdwellin thelandofEgypt:

9AndIwilldeliverthemtoberemovedintoallthe kingdomsoftheearthfortheirhurt,tobeareproachanda proverb,atauntandacurse,inallplaceswhitherIshall drivethem

10AndIwillsendthesword,thefamine,andthe pestilence,amongthem,tilltheybeconsumedfromoffthe landthatIgaveuntothemandtotheirfathers

CHAPTER25

1ThewordthatcametoJeremiahconcerningallthe peopleofJudahinthefourthyearofJehoiakimthesonof JosiahkingofJudah,thatwasthefirstyearof NebuchadrezzarkingofBabylon;

2ThewhichJeremiahtheprophetspakeuntoallthepeople ofJudah,andtoalltheinhabitantsofJerusalem,saying,

3FromthethirteenthyearofJosiahthesonofAmonking ofJudah,evenuntothisday,thatisthethreeandtwentieth year,thewordoftheLORDhathcomeuntome,andIhave spokenuntoyou,risingearlyandspeaking;butyehavenot hearkened

4AndtheLORDhathsentuntoyouallhisservantsthe prophets,risingearlyandsendingthem;butyehavenot hearkened,norinclinedyoureartohear

5Theysaid,Turnyeagainnoweveryonefromhisevil way,andfromtheevilofyourdoings,anddwellinthe landthattheLORDhathgivenuntoyouandtoyour fathersforeverandever:

6Andgonotafterothergodstoservethem,andtoworship them,andprovokemenottoangerwiththeworksofyour hands;andIwilldoyounohurt

7Yetyehavenothearkeneduntome,saiththeLORD;that yemightprovokemetoangerwiththeworksofyour handstoyourownhurt

8ThereforethussaiththeLORDofhosts;Becauseyehave notheardmywords,

9Behold,Iwillsendandtakeallthefamiliesofthenorth, saiththeLORD,andNebuchadrezzarthekingofBabylon, myservant,andwillbringthemagainstthisland,and againsttheinhabitantsthereof,andagainstallthesenations roundabout,andwillutterlydestroythem,andmakethem anastonishment,andanhissing,andperpetualdesolations

10MoreoverIwilltakefromthemthevoiceofmirth,and thevoiceofgladness,thevoiceofthebridegroom,andthe voiceofthebride,thesoundofthemillstones,andthelight ofthecandle

11Andthiswholelandshallbeadesolation,andan astonishment;andthesenationsshallservethekingof Babylonseventyyears

12Anditshallcometopass,whenseventyyearsare accomplished,thatIwillpunishthekingofBabylon,and thatnation,saiththeLORD,fortheiriniquity,andtheland oftheChaldeans,andwillmakeitperpetualdesolations

13AndIwillbringuponthatlandallmywordswhichI havepronouncedagainstit,evenallthatiswritteninthis book,whichJeremiahhathprophesiedagainstallthe nations

17ThentookIthecupattheLORD'Shand,andmadeall thenationstodrink,untowhomtheLORDhadsentme: 18Towit,Jerusalem,andthecitiesofJudah,andthekings thereof,andtheprincesthereof,tomakethemadesolation, anastonishment,anhissing,andacurse;asitisthisday; 19PharaohkingofEgypt,andhisservants,andhisprinces, andallhispeople;

20Andallthemingledpeople,andallthekingsoftheland ofUz,andallthekingsofthelandofthePhilistines,and Ashkelon,andAzzah,andEkron,andtheremnantof Ashdod, 21Edom,andMoab,andthechildrenofAmmon, 22AndallthekingsofTyrus,andallthekingsofZidon, andthekingsoftheisleswhicharebeyondthesea, 23Dedan,andTema,andBuz,andallthatareinthe utmostcorners,

24AndallthekingsofArabia,andallthekingsofthe mingledpeoplethatdwellinthedesert,

25AndallthekingsofZimri,andallthekingsofElam, andallthekingsoftheMedes,

26Andallthekingsofthenorth,farandnear,onewith another,andallthekingdomsoftheworld,whichareupon thefaceoftheearth:andthekingofSheshachshalldrink afterthem

27Thereforethoushaltsayuntothem,Thussaiththe LORDofhosts,theGodofIsrael;Drinkye,andbe drunken,andspue,andfall,andrisenomore,becauseof theswordwhichIwillsendamongyou.

28Anditshallbe,iftheyrefusetotakethecupatthine handtodrink,thenshaltthousayuntothem,Thussaiththe LORDofhosts;Yeshallcertainlydrink.

29For,lo,Ibegintobringevilonthecitywhichiscalled bymyname,andshouldyebeutterlyunpunished?Ye shallnotbeunpunished:forIwillcallforasworduponall theinhabitantsoftheearth,saiththeLORDofhosts 30Thereforeprophesythouagainstthemallthesewords, andsayuntothem,TheLORDshallroarfromonhigh,and utterhisvoicefromhisholyhabitation;heshallmightily roaruponhishabitation;heshallgiveashout,astheythat treadthegrapes,againstalltheinhabitantsoftheearth.

31Anoiseshallcomeeventotheendsoftheearth;forthe LORDhathacontroversywiththenations,hewillplead withallflesh;hewillgivethemthatarewickedtothe sword,saiththeLORD

32ThussaiththeLORDofhosts,Behold,evilshallgo forthfromnationtonation,andagreatwhirlwindshallbe raisedupfromthecoastsoftheearth

33AndtheslainoftheLORDshallbeatthatdayfromone endoftheearthevenuntotheotherendoftheearth:they shallnotbelamented,neithergathered,norburied;they shallbedungupontheground

34Howl,yeshepherds,andcry;andwallowyourselvesin theashes,yeprincipaloftheflock:forthedaysofyour slaughterandofyourdispersionsareaccomplished;andye shallfalllikeapleasantvessel

35Andtheshepherdsshallhavenowaytoflee,northe principaloftheflocktoescape.

36Avoiceofthecryoftheshepherds,andanhowlingof theprincipaloftheflock,shallbeheard:fortheLORD hathspoiledtheirpasture.

37Andthepeaceablehabitationsarecutdownbecauseof thefierceangeroftheLORD

38Hehathforsakenhiscovert,asthelion:fortheirlandis desolatebecauseofthefiercenessoftheoppressor,and becauseofhisfierceanger

CHAPTER26

1InthebeginningofthereignofJehoiakimthesonof JosiahkingofJudahcamethiswordfromtheLORD, saying,

2ThussaiththeLORD;StandinthecourtoftheLORD'S house,andspeakuntoallthecitiesofJudah,whichcome toworshipintheLORD'Shouse,allthewordsthatI commandtheetospeakuntothem;diminishnotaword:

3Ifsobetheywillhearken,andturneverymanfromhis evilway,thatImayrepentmeoftheevil,whichIpurpose todountothembecauseoftheeviloftheirdoings.

4Andthoushaltsayuntothem,ThussaiththeLORD;If yewillnothearkentome,towalkinmylaw,whichIhave setbeforeyou,

5Tohearkentothewordsofmyservantstheprophets, whomIsentuntoyou,bothrisingupearly,andsending them,butyehavenothearkened;

6ThenwillImakethishouselikeShiloh,andwillmake thiscityacursetoallthenationsoftheearth

7Sothepriestsandtheprophetsandallthepeopleheard JeremiahspeakingthesewordsinthehouseoftheLORD

8Nowitcametopass,whenJeremiahhadmadeanendof speakingallthattheLORDhadcommandedhimtospeak untoallthepeople,thatthepriestsandtheprophetsandall thepeopletookhim,saying,Thoushaltsurelydie

9WhyhastthouprophesiedinthenameoftheLORD, saying,ThishouseshallbelikeShiloh,andthiscityshall bedesolatewithoutaninhabitant?Andallthepeoplewere gatheredagainstJeremiahinthehouseoftheLORD.

10WhentheprincesofJudahheardthesethings,thenthey cameupfromtheking'shouseuntothehouseoftheLORD, andsatdownintheentryofthenewgateoftheLORD'S house

11Thenspakethepriestsandtheprophetsuntotheprinces andtoallthepeople,saying,Thismanisworthytodie;for hehathprophesiedagainstthiscity,asyehaveheardwith yourears

12ThenspakeJeremiahuntoalltheprincesandtoallthe people,saying,TheLORDsentmetoprophesyagainstthis houseandagainstthiscityallthewordsthatyehaveheard 13Thereforenowamendyourwaysandyourdoings,and obeythevoiceoftheLORDyourGod;andtheLORDwill repenthimoftheevilthathehathpronouncedagainstyou.

14Asforme,behold,Iaminyourhand:dowithmeas seemethgoodandmeetuntoyou

15Butknowyeforcertain,thatifyeputmetodeath,ye shallsurelybringinnocentblooduponyourselves,and uponthiscity,andupontheinhabitantsthereof:forofa truththeLORDhathsentmeuntoyoutospeakallthese wordsinyourears

16Thensaidtheprincesandallthepeopleuntothepriests andtotheprophets;Thismanisnotworthytodie:forhe hathspokentousinthenameoftheLORDourGod

17Thenroseupcertainoftheeldersoftheland,andspake toalltheassemblyofthepeople,saying, 18MicahtheMorasthiteprophesiedinthedaysof HezekiahkingofJudah,andspaketoallthepeopleof

Judah,saying,ThussaiththeLORDofhosts;Zionshallbe plowedlikeafield,andJerusalemshallbecomeheaps,and themountainofthehouseasthehighplacesofaforest 19DidHezekiahkingofJudahandallJudahputhimatall todeath?didhenotfeartheLORD,andbesoughtthe LORD,andtheLORDrepentedhimoftheevilwhichhe hadpronouncedagainstthem?Thusmightweprocure greatevilagainstoursouls.

20Andtherewasalsoamanthatprophesiedinthename oftheLORD,UrijahthesonofShemaiahofKirjathjearim, whoprophesiedagainstthiscityandagainstthisland accordingtoallthewordsofJeremiah:

21AndwhenJehoiakimtheking,withallhismightymen, andalltheprinces,heardhiswords,thekingsoughttoput himtodeath:butwhenUrijahheardit,hewasafraid,and fled,andwentintoEgypt;

22AndJehoiakimthekingsentmenintoEgypt,namely, ElnathanthesonofAchbor,andcertainmenwithhiminto Egypt.

23AndtheyfetchedforthUrijahoutofEgypt,andbrought himuntoJehoiakimtheking;whoslewhimwiththesword, andcasthisdeadbodyintothegravesofthecommon people

24NeverthelessthehandofAhikamthesonofShaphan waswithJeremiah,thattheyshouldnotgivehimintothe handofthepeopletoputhimtodeath

CHAPTER27

1InthebeginningofthereignofJehoiakimthesonof JosiahkingofJudahcamethisworduntoJeremiahfrom theLORD,saying,

2ThussaiththeLORDtome;Maketheebondsandyokes, andputthemuponthyneck,

3AndsendthemtothekingofEdom,andtothekingof Moab,andtothekingoftheAmmonites,andtothekingof Tyrus,andtothekingofZidon,bythehandofthe messengerswhichcometoJerusalemuntoZedekiahking ofJudah;

4Andcommandthemtosayuntotheirmasters,Thussaith theLORDofhosts,theGodofIsrael;Thusshallyesay untoyourmasters;

5Ihavemadetheearth,themanandthebeastthatare upontheground,bymygreatpowerandbymy outstretchedarm,andhavegivenituntowhomitseemed meetuntome.

6AndnowhaveIgivenalltheselandsintothehandof NebuchadnezzarthekingofBabylon,myservant;andthe beastsofthefieldhaveIgivenhimalsotoservehim

7Andallnationsshallservehim,andhisson,andhisson's son,untiltheverytimeofhislandcome:andthenmany nationsandgreatkingsshallservethemselvesofhim.

8Anditshallcometopass,thatthenationandkingdom whichwillnotservethesameNebuchadnezzarthekingof Babylon,andthatwillnotputtheirneckundertheyokeof thekingofBabylon,thatnationwillIpunish,saiththe LORD,withthesword,andwiththefamine,andwiththe pestilence,untilIhaveconsumedthembyhishand 9Thereforehearkennotyetoyourprophets,nortoyour diviners,nortoyourdreamers,nortoyourenchanters,nor toyoursorcerers,whichspeakuntoyou,saying,Yeshall notservethekingofBabylon:

10Fortheyprophesyalieuntoyou,toremoveyoufar fromyourland;andthatIshoulddriveyouout,andye shouldperish

11Butthenationsthatbringtheirneckundertheyokeof thekingofBabylon,andservehim,thosewillIletremain stillintheirownland,saiththeLORD;andtheyshalltillit, anddwelltherein

12IspakealsotoZedekiahkingofJudahaccordingtoall thesewords,saying,Bringyournecksundertheyokeof thekingofBabylon,andservehimandhispeople,andlive 13Whywillyedie,thouandthypeople,bythesword,by thefamine,andbythepestilence,astheLORDhath spokenagainstthenationthatwillnotservethekingof Babylon?

14Thereforehearkennotuntothewordsoftheprophets thatspeakuntoyou,saying,Yeshallnotservethekingof Babylon:fortheyprophesyalieuntoyou

15ForIhavenotsentthem,saiththeLORD,yetthey prophesyalieinmyname;thatImightdriveyouout,and thatyemightperish,ye,andtheprophetsthatprophesy untoyou

16AlsoIspaketothepriestsandtoallthispeople,saying, ThussaiththeLORD;Hearkennottothewordsofyour prophetsthatprophesyuntoyou,saying,Behold,the vesselsoftheLORD'Shouseshallnowshortlybebrought againfromBabylon:fortheyprophesyalieuntoyou

17Hearkennotuntothem;servethekingofBabylon,and live:whereforeshouldthiscitybelaidwaste?

18Butiftheybeprophets,andifthewordoftheLORDbe withthem,letthemnowmakeintercessiontotheLORDof hosts,thatthevesselswhichareleftinthehouseofthe LORD,andinthehouseofthekingofJudah,andat Jerusalem,gonottoBabylon

19ForthussaiththeLORDofhostsconcerningthepillars, andconcerningthesea,andconcerningthebases,and concerningtheresidueofthevesselsthatremaininthis city,

20WhichNebuchadnezzarkingofBabylontooknot,when hecarriedawaycaptiveJeconiahthesonofJehoiakimking ofJudahfromJerusalemtoBabylon,andallthenoblesof JudahandJerusalem;

21Yea,thussaiththeLORDofhosts,theGodofIsrael, concerningthevesselsthatremaininthehouseofthe LORD,andinthehouseofthekingofJudahandof Jerusalem;

22TheyshallbecarriedtoBabylon,andthereshalltheybe untilthedaythatIvisitthem,saiththeLORD;thenwillI bringthemup,andrestorethemtothisplace.

CHAPTER28

1Anditcametopassthesameyear,inthebeginningof thereignofZedekiahkingofJudah,inthefourthyear,and inthefifthmonth,thatHananiahthesonofAzurthe prophet,whichwasofGibeon,spakeuntomeinthehouse oftheLORD,inthepresenceofthepriestsandofallthe people,saying,

2ThusspeakeththeLORDofhosts,theGodofIsrael, saying,IhavebrokentheyokeofthekingofBabylon

3WithintwofullyearswillIbringagainintothisplaceall thevesselsoftheLORD'Shouse,thatNebuchadnezzar

kingofBabylontookawayfromthisplace,andcarried themtoBabylon:

4AndIwillbringagaintothisplaceJeconiahthesonof JehoiakimkingofJudah,withallthecaptivesofJudah, thatwentintoBabylon,saiththeLORD:forIwillbreak theyokeofthekingofBabylon

5ThentheprophetJeremiahsaiduntotheprophet Hananiahinthepresenceofthepriests,andinthepresence ofallthepeoplethatstoodinthehouseoftheLORD,

6EventheprophetJeremiahsaid,Amen:theLORDdoso: theLORDperformthywordswhichthouhastprophesied, tobringagainthevesselsoftheLORD'Shouse,andallthat iscarriedawaycaptive,fromBabylonintothisplace.

7NeverthelesshearthounowthiswordthatIspeakin thineears,andintheearsofallthepeople;

8Theprophetsthathavebeenbeforemeandbeforetheeof oldprophesiedbothagainstmanycountries,andagainst greatkingdoms,ofwar,andofevil,andofpestilence

9Theprophetwhichprophesiethofpeace,whentheword oftheprophetshallcometopass,thenshalltheprophetbe known,thattheLORDhathtrulysenthim

10ThenHananiahtheprophettooktheyokefromoffthe prophetJeremiah'sneck,andbrakeit

11AndHananiahspakeinthepresenceofallthepeople, saying,ThussaiththeLORD;EvensowillIbreakthe yokeofNebuchadnezzarkingofBabylonfromtheneckof allnationswithinthespaceoftwofullyearsAndthe prophetJeremiahwenthisway.

12ThenthewordoftheLORDcameuntoJeremiahthe prophet,afterthatHananiahtheprophethadbrokenthe yokefromofftheneckoftheprophetJeremiah,saying, 13GoandtellHananiah,saying,ThussaiththeLORD; Thouhastbrokentheyokesofwood;butthoushaltmake forthemyokesofiron.

14ForthussaiththeLORDofhosts,theGodofIsrael;I haveputayokeofironupontheneckofallthesenations, thattheymayserveNebuchadnezzarkingofBabylon;and theyshallservehim:andIhavegivenhimthebeastsofthe fieldalso

15ThensaidtheprophetJeremiahuntoHananiahthe prophet,Hearnow,Hananiah;TheLORDhathnotsent thee;butthoumakestthispeopletotrustinalie

16ThereforethussaiththeLORD;Behold,Iwillcastthee fromoffthefaceoftheearth:thisyearthoushaltdie, becausethouhasttaughtrebellionagainsttheLORD 17SoHananiahtheprophetdiedthesameyearinthe seventhmonth

CHAPTER29

1NowthesearethewordsoftheletterthatJeremiahthe prophetsentfromJerusalemuntotheresidueoftheelders whichwerecarriedawaycaptives,andtothepriests,andto theprophets,andtoallthepeoplewhomNebuchadnezzar hadcarriedawaycaptivefromJerusalemtoBabylon;

2(AfterthatJeconiahtheking,andthequeen,andthe eunuchs,theprincesofJudahandJerusalem,andthe carpenters,andthesmiths,weredepartedfromJerusalem;) 3BythehandofElasahthesonofShaphan,andGemariah thesonofHilkiah,(whomZedekiahkingofJudahsent untoBabylontoNebuchadnezzarkingofBabylon)saying,

4ThussaiththeLORDofhosts,theGodofIsrael,untoall thatarecarriedawaycaptives,whomIhavecausedtobe carriedawayfromJerusalemuntoBabylon;

5Buildyehouses,anddwellinthem;andplantgardens, andeatthefruitofthem;

6Takeyewives,andbegetsonsanddaughters;andtake wivesforyoursons,andgiveyourdaughterstohusbands, thattheymaybearsonsanddaughters;thatyemaybe increasedthere,andnotdiminished

7AndseekthepeaceofthecitywhitherIhavecausedyou tobecarriedawaycaptives,andprayuntotheLORDforit: forinthepeacethereofshallyehavepeace

8ForthussaiththeLORDofhosts,theGodofIsrael;Let notyourprophetsandyourdiviners,thatbeinthemidstof you,deceiveyou,neitherhearkentoyourdreamswhichye causetobedreamed.

9Fortheyprophesyfalselyuntoyouinmyname:Ihave notsentthem,saiththeLORD

10ForthussaiththeLORD,Thatafterseventyyearsbe accomplishedatBabylonIwillvisityou,andperformmy goodwordtowardyou,incausingyoutoreturntothis place.

11ForIknowthethoughtsthatIthinktowardyou,saith theLORD,thoughtsofpeace,andnotofevil,togiveyou anexpectedend.

12Thenshallyecalluponme,andyeshallgoandpray untome,andIwillhearkenuntoyou

13Andyeshallseekme,andfindme,whenyeshallsearch formewithallyourheart

14AndIwillbefoundofyou,saiththeLORD:andIwill turnawayyourcaptivity,andIwillgatheryoufromallthe nations,andfromalltheplaceswhitherIhavedrivenyou, saiththeLORD;andIwillbringyouagainintotheplace whenceIcausedyoutobecarriedawaycaptive.

15Becauseyehavesaid,TheLORDhathraisedusup prophetsinBabylon;

16KnowthatthussaiththeLORDofthekingthatsitteth uponthethroneofDavid,andofallthepeoplethat dwellethinthiscity,andofyourbrethrenthatarenotgone forthwithyouintocaptivity;

17ThussaiththeLORDofhosts;Behold,Iwillsendupon themthesword,thefamine,andthepestilence,andwill makethemlikevilefigs,thatcannotbeeaten,theyareso evil

18AndIwillpersecutethemwiththesword,withthe famine,andwiththepestilence,andwilldeliverthemtobe removedtoallthekingdomsoftheearth,tobeacurse,and anastonishment,andanhissing,andareproach,amongall thenationswhitherIhavedriventhem:

19Becausetheyhavenothearkenedtomywords,saiththe LORD,whichIsentuntothembymyservantstheprophets, risingupearlyandsendingthem;butyewouldnothear, saiththeLORD

20HearyethereforethewordoftheLORD,allyeofthe captivity,whomIhavesentfromJerusalemtoBabylon:

21ThussaiththeLORDofhosts,theGodofIsrael,of AhabthesonofKolaiah,andofZedekiahthesonof Maaseiah,whichprophesyalieuntoyouinmyname; Behold,Iwilldeliverthemintothehandof NebuchadrezzarkingofBabylon;andheshallslaythem beforeyoureyes;

22Andofthemshallbetakenupacursebyallthe captivityofJudahwhichareinBabylon,saying,The LORDmaketheelikeZedekiahandlikeAhab,whomthe kingofBabylonroastedinthefire;

23BecausetheyhavecommittedvillanyinIsrael,andhave committedadulterywiththeirneighbours'wives,andhave spokenlyingwordsinmyname,whichIhavenot commandedthem;evenIknow,andamawitness,saiththe LORD

24ThusshaltthoualsospeaktoShemaiahtheNehelamite, saying,

25ThusspeakeththeLORDofhosts,theGodofIsrael, saying,Becausethouhastsentlettersinthynameuntoall thepeoplethatareatJerusalem,andtoZephaniahtheson ofMaaseiahthepriest,andtoallthepriests,saying,

26TheLORDhathmadetheepriestinthesteadof Jehoiadathepriest,thatyeshouldbeofficersinthehouse oftheLORD,foreverymanthatismad,andmaketh himselfaprophet,thatthoushouldestputhiminprison, andinthestocks

27NowthereforewhyhastthounotreprovedJeremiahof Anathoth,whichmakethhimselfaprophettoyou?

28ForthereforehesentuntousinBabylon,saying,This captivityislong:buildyehouses,anddwellinthem;and plantgardens,andeatthefruitofthem.

29AndZephaniahthepriestreadthisletterintheearsof Jeremiahtheprophet

30ThencamethewordoftheLORDuntoJeremiah, saying,

31Sendtoallthemofthecaptivity,saying,Thussaiththe LORDconcerningShemaiahtheNehelamite;Becausethat Shemaiahhathprophesieduntoyou,andIsenthimnot, andhecausedyoutotrustinalie:

32ThereforethussaiththeLORD;Behold,Iwillpunish ShemaiahtheNehelamite,andhisseed:heshallnothavea mantodwellamongthispeople;neithershallhebeholdthe goodthatIwilldoformypeople,saiththeLORD;because hehathtaughtrebellionagainsttheLORD

CHAPTER30

1ThewordthatcametoJeremiahfromtheLORD,saying, 2ThusspeakeththeLORDGodofIsrael,saying,Write theeallthewordsthatIhavespokenuntotheeinabook 3For,lo,thedayscome,saiththeLORD,thatIwillbring againthecaptivityofmypeopleIsraelandJudah,saiththe LORD:andIwillcausethemtoreturntothelandthatI gavetotheirfathers,andtheyshallpossessit.

4AndthesearethewordsthattheLORDspakeconcerning IsraelandconcerningJudah

5ForthussaiththeLORD;Wehaveheardavoiceof trembling,offear,andnotofpeace.

6Askyenow,andseewhetheramandothtravailwith child?whereforedoIseeeverymanwithhishandsonhis loins,asawomanintravail,andallfacesareturnedinto paleness?

7Alas!forthatdayisgreat,sothatnoneislikeit:itiseven thetimeofJacob'strouble;butheshallbesavedoutofit 8Foritshallcometopassinthatday,saiththeLORDof hosts,thatIwillbreakhisyokefromoffthyneck,andwill burstthybonds,andstrangersshallnomoreserve themselvesofhim:

9ButtheyshallservetheLORDtheirGod,andDavidtheir king,whomIwillraiseupuntothem.

10Thereforefearthounot,OmyservantJacob,saiththe LORD;neitherbedismayed,OIsrael:for,lo,Iwillsave theefromafar,andthyseedfromthelandoftheircaptivity; andJacobshallreturn,andshallbeinrest,andbequiet, andnoneshallmakehimafraid

11ForIamwiththee,saiththeLORD,tosavethee: thoughImakeafullendofallnationswhitherIhave scatteredthee,yetwillInotmakeafullendofthee:butI willcorrecttheeinmeasure,andwillnotleavethee altogetherunpunished

12ForthussaiththeLORD,Thybruiseisincurable,and thywoundisgrievous

13Thereisnonetopleadthycause,thatthoumayestbe boundup:thouhastnohealingmedicines.

14Allthylovershaveforgottenthee;theyseektheenot; forIhavewoundedtheewiththewoundofanenemy,with thechastisementofacruelone,forthemultitudeofthine iniquity;becausethysinswereincreased 15Whycriestthouforthineaffliction?thysorrowis incurableforthemultitudeofthineiniquity:becausethy sinswereincreased,Ihavedonethesethingsuntothee 16Thereforealltheythatdevourtheeshallbedevoured; andallthineadversaries,everyoneofthem,shallgointo captivity;andtheythatspoiltheeshallbeaspoil,andall thatpreyupontheewillIgiveforaprey

17ForIwillrestorehealthuntothee,andIwillhealtheeof thywounds,saiththeLORD;becausetheycalledtheean Outcast,saying,ThisisZion,whomnomanseekethafter 18ThussaiththeLORD;Behold,Iwillbringagainthe captivityofJacob'stents,andhavemercyonhis dwellingplaces;andthecityshallbebuildeduponherown heap,andthepalaceshallremainafterthemannerthereof.

19Andoutofthemshallproceedthanksgivingandthe voiceofthemthatmakemerry:andIwillmultiplythem, andtheyshallnotbefew;Iwillalsoglorifythem,andthey shallnotbesmall

20Theirchildrenalsoshallbeasaforetime,andtheir congregationshallbeestablishedbeforeme,andIwill punishallthatoppressthem

21Andtheirnoblesshallbeofthemselves,andtheir governorshallproceedfromthemidstofthem;andIwill causehimtodrawnear,andheshallapproachuntome:for whoisthisthatengagedhishearttoapproachuntome? saiththeLORD.

22Andyeshallbemypeople,andIwillbeyourGod

CHAPTER31

1Atthesametime,saiththeLORD,willIbetheGodof allthefamiliesofIsrael,andtheyshallbemypeople

2ThussaiththeLORD,Thepeoplewhichwereleftofthe swordfoundgraceinthewilderness;evenIsrael,whenI wenttocausehimtorest

3TheLORDhathappearedofolduntome,saying,Yea,I havelovedtheewithaneverlastinglove:thereforewith lovingkindnesshaveIdrawnthee

4AgainIwillbuildthee,andthoushaltbebuilt,Ovirgin ofIsrael:thoushaltagainbeadornedwiththytabrets,and shaltgoforthinthedancesofthemthatmakemerry

5ThoushaltyetplantvinesuponthemountainsofSamaria: theplantersshallplant,andshalleatthemascommon things

6Forthereshallbeaday,thatthewatchmenuponthe mountEphraimshallcry,Ariseye,andletusgouptoZion untotheLORDourGod

7ForthussaiththeLORD;SingwithgladnessforJacob, andshoutamongthechiefofthenations:publishye,praise ye,andsay,OLORD,savethypeople,theremnantof Israel.

8Behold,Iwillbringthemfromthenorthcountry,and gatherthemfromthecoastsoftheearth,andwiththemthe blindandthelame,thewomanwithchildandherthat travailethwithchildtogether:agreatcompanyshallreturn thither

9Theyshallcomewithweeping,andwithsupplications willIleadthem:Iwillcausethemtowalkbytheriversof watersinastraightway,whereintheyshallnotstumble: forIamafathertoIsrael,andEphraimismyfirstborn.

10HearthewordoftheLORD,Oyenations,anddeclare itintheislesafaroff,andsay,HethatscatteredIsraelwill gatherhim,andkeephim,asashepherddothhisflock.

11FortheLORDhathredeemedJacob,andransomedhim fromthehandofhimthatwasstrongerthanhe 12ThereforetheyshallcomeandsingintheheightofZion, andshallflowtogethertothegoodnessoftheLORD,for wheat,andforwine,andforoil,andfortheyoungofthe flockandoftheherd:andtheirsoulshallbeasawatered garden;andtheyshallnotsorrowanymoreatall 13Thenshallthevirginrejoiceinthedance,bothyoung menandoldtogether:forIwillturntheirmourninginto joy,andwillcomfortthem,andmakethemrejoicefrom theirsorrow

14AndIwillsatiatethesoulofthepriestswithfatness, andmypeopleshallbesatisfiedwithmygoodness,saith theLORD

15ThussaiththeLORD;AvoicewasheardinRamah, lamentation,andbitterweeping;Rahelweepingforher childrenrefusedtobecomfortedforherchildren,because theywerenot.

16ThussaiththeLORD;Refrainthyvoicefromweeping, andthineeyesfromtears:forthyworkshallberewarded, saiththeLORD;andtheyshallcomeagainfromtheland oftheenemy

17Andthereishopeinthineend,saiththeLORD,thatthy childrenshallcomeagaintotheirownborder.

18IhavesurelyheardEphraimbemoaninghimselfthus; Thouhastchastisedme,andIwaschastised,asabullock unaccustomedtotheyoke:turnthoume,andIshallbe turned;forthouarttheLORDmyGod

19SurelyafterthatIwasturned,Irepented;andafterthatI wasinstructed,Ismoteuponmythigh:Iwasashamed,yea, evenconfounded,becauseIdidbearthereproachofmy youth.

20IsEphraimmydearson?isheapleasantchild?for sinceIspakeagainsthim,Idoearnestlyrememberhimstill:

thereforemybowelsaretroubledforhim;Iwillsurely havemercyuponhim,saiththeLORD.

21Settheeupwaymarks,maketheehighheaps:setthine hearttowardthehighway,eventhewaywhichthou wentest:turnagain,OvirginofIsrael,turnagaintothese thycities

22Howlongwiltthougoabout,Othoubacksliding daughter?fortheLORDhathcreatedanewthinginthe earth,Awomanshallcompassaman

23ThussaiththeLORDofhosts,theGodofIsrael;Asyet theyshallusethisspeechinthelandofJudahandinthe citiesthereof,whenIshallbringagaintheircaptivity;The LORDblessthee,Ohabitationofjustice,andmountainof holiness

24AndthereshalldwellinJudahitself,andinallthecities thereoftogether,husbandmen,andtheythatgoforthwith flocks

25ForIhavesatiatedthewearysoul,andIhave replenishedeverysorrowfulsoul.

26UponthisIawaked,andbeheld;andmysleepwas sweetuntome

27Behold,thedayscome,saiththeLORD,thatIwillsow thehouseofIsraelandthehouseofJudahwiththeseedof man,andwiththeseedofbeast

28Anditshallcometopass,thatlikeasIhavewatched overthem,topluckup,andtobreakdown,andtothrow down,andtodestroy,andtoafflict;sowillIwatchover them,tobuild,andtoplant,saiththeLORD.

29Inthosedaystheyshallsaynomore,Thefathershave eatenasourgrape,andthechildren'steetharesetonedge

30Buteveryoneshalldieforhisowniniquity:everyman thateateththesourgrape,histeethshallbesetonedge

31Behold,thedayscome,saiththeLORD,thatIwill makeanewcovenantwiththehouseofIsrael,andwiththe houseofJudah:

32NotaccordingtothecovenantthatImadewiththeir fathersinthedaythatItookthembythehandtobring themoutofthelandofEgypt;whichmycovenantthey brake,althoughIwasanhusbanduntothem,saiththe LORD:

33ButthisshallbethecovenantthatIwillmakewiththe houseofIsrael;Afterthosedays,saiththeLORD,Iwill putmylawintheirinwardparts,andwriteitintheirhearts; andwillbetheirGod,andtheyshallbemypeople

34Andtheyshallteachnomoreeverymanhisneighbour, andeverymanhisbrother,saying,KnowtheLORD:for theyshallallknowme,fromtheleastofthemuntothe greatestofthem,saiththeLORD:forIwillforgivetheir iniquity,andIwillremembertheirsinnomore

35ThussaiththeLORD,whichgiveththesunforalight byday,andtheordinancesofthemoonandofthestarsfor alightbynight,whichdivideththeseawhenthewaves thereofroar;TheLORDofhostsishisname:

36Ifthoseordinancesdepartfrombeforeme,saiththe LORD,thentheseedofIsraelalsoshallceasefrombeinga nationbeforemeforever

37ThussaiththeLORD;Ifheavenabovecanbemeasured, andthefoundationsoftheearthsearchedoutbeneath,I willalsocastoffalltheseedofIsraelforallthattheyhave done,saiththeLORD.

38Behold,thedayscome,saiththeLORD,thatthecity shallbebuilttotheLORDfromthetowerofHananeel untothegateofthecorner

39Andthemeasuringlineshallyetgoforthoveragainstit uponthehillGareb,andshallcompassabouttoGoath.

40Andthewholevalleyofthedeadbodies,andofthe ashes,andallthefieldsuntothebrookofKidron,untothe cornerofthehorsegatetowardtheeast,shallbeholyunto theLORD;itshallnotbepluckedup,northrowndownany moreforever

CHAPTER32

1ThewordthatcametoJeremiahfromtheLORDinthe tenthyearofZedekiahkingofJudah,whichwasthe eighteenthyearofNebuchadrezzar.

2ForthenthekingofBabylon'sarmybesiegedJerusalem: andJeremiahtheprophetwasshutupinthecourtofthe prison,whichwasinthekingofJudah'shouse.

3ForZedekiahkingofJudahhadshuthimup,saying, Whereforedostthouprophesy,andsay,Thussaiththe LORD,Behold,Iwillgivethiscityintothehandofthe kingofBabylon,andheshalltakeit;

4AndZedekiahkingofJudahshallnotescapeoutofthe handoftheChaldeans,butshallsurelybedeliveredinto thehandofthekingofBabylon,andshallspeakwithhim mouthtomouth,andhiseyesshallbeholdhiseyes;

5AndheshallleadZedekiahtoBabylon,andthereshallhe beuntilIvisithim,saiththeLORD:thoughyefightwith theChaldeans,yeshallnotprosper

6AndJeremiahsaid,ThewordoftheLORDcameunto me,saying,

7Behold,HanameelthesonofShallumthineuncleshall comeuntothee,saying,Buytheemyfieldthatisin Anathoth:fortherightofredemptionisthinetobuyit

8SoHanameelmineuncle'ssoncametomeinthecourtof theprisonaccordingtothewordoftheLORD,andsaid untome,Buymyfield,Ipraythee,thatisinAnathoth, whichisinthecountryofBenjamin:fortherightof inheritanceisthine,andtheredemptionisthine;buyitfor thyselfThenIknewthatthiswasthewordoftheLORD

9AndIboughtthefieldofHanameelmyuncle'sson,that wasinAnathoth,andweighedhimthemoney,even seventeenshekelsofsilver

10AndIsubscribedtheevidence,andsealedit,andtook witnesses,andweighedhimthemoneyinthebalances.

11SoItooktheevidenceofthepurchase,boththatwhich wassealedaccordingtothelawandcustom,andthat whichwasopen:

12AndIgavetheevidenceofthepurchaseuntoBaruch thesonofNeriah,thesonofMaaseiah,inthesightof Hanameelmineuncle'sson,andinthepresenceofthe witnessesthatsubscribedthebookofthepurchase,before alltheJewsthatsatinthecourtoftheprison

13AndIchargedBaruchbeforethem,saying, 14ThussaiththeLORDofhosts,theGodofIsrael;Take theseevidences,thisevidenceofthepurchase,bothwhich issealed,andthisevidencewhichisopen;andputthemin anearthenvessel,thattheymaycontinuemanydays 15ForthussaiththeLORDofhosts,theGodofIsrael; Housesandfieldsandvineyardsshallbepossessedagain inthisland

16NowwhenIhaddeliveredtheevidenceofthepurchase untoBaruchthesonofNeriah,IprayeduntotheLORD, saying,

17AhLordGOD!behold,thouhastmadetheheavenand theearthbythygreatpowerandstretchedoutarm,and thereisnothingtoohardforthee:

18Thoushewestlovingkindnessuntothousands,and recompensesttheiniquityofthefathersintothebosomof theirchildrenafterthem:theGreat,theMightyGod,the LORDofhosts,ishisname,

19Greatincounsel,andmightyinwork:forthineeyesare openuponallthewaysofthesonsofmen:togiveevery oneaccordingtohisways,andaccordingtothefruitofhis doings:

20WhichhastsetsignsandwondersinthelandofEgypt, evenuntothisday,andinIsrael,andamongothermen; andhastmadetheeaname,asatthisday;

21AndhastbroughtforththypeopleIsraeloutoftheland ofEgyptwithsigns,andwithwonders,andwithastrong hand,andwithastretchedoutarm,andwithgreatterror;

22Andhastgiventhemthisland,whichthoudidstswear totheirfatherstogivethem,alandflowingwithmilkand honey;

23Andtheycamein,andpossessedit;buttheyobeyednot thyvoice,neitherwalkedinthylaw;theyhavedone nothingofallthatthoucommandedstthemtodo:therefore thouhastcausedallthiseviltocomeuponthem:

24Beholdthemounts,theyarecomeuntothecitytotake it;andthecityisgivenintothehandoftheChaldeans,that fightagainstit,becauseofthesword,andofthefamine, andofthepestilence:andwhatthouhastspokeniscometo pass;and,behold,thouseestit

25Andthouhastsaiduntome,OLordGOD,Buytheethe fieldformoney,andtakewitnesses;forthecityisgiven intothehandoftheChaldeans

26ThencamethewordoftheLORDuntoJeremiah, saying,

27Behold,IamtheLORD,theGodofallflesh:isthere anythingtoohardforme?

28ThereforethussaiththeLORD;Behold,Iwillgivethis cityintothehandoftheChaldeans,andintothehandof NebuchadrezzarkingofBabylon,andheshalltakeit:

29AndtheChaldeans,thatfightagainstthiscity,shall comeandsetfireonthiscity,andburnitwiththehouses, uponwhoseroofstheyhaveofferedincenseuntoBaal,and pouredoutdrinkofferingsuntoothergods,toprovokeme toanger

30ForthechildrenofIsraelandthechildrenofJudahhave onlydoneevilbeforemefromtheiryouth:forthechildren ofIsraelhaveonlyprovokedmetoangerwiththeworkof theirhands,saiththeLORD

31Forthiscityhathbeentomeasaprovocationofmine angerandofmyfuryfromthedaythattheybuiltiteven untothisday;thatIshouldremoveitfrombeforemyface, 32BecauseofalltheevilofthechildrenofIsraelandof thechildrenofJudah,whichtheyhavedonetoprovokeme toanger,they,theirkings,theirprinces,theirpriests,and theirprophets,andthemenofJudah,andtheinhabitantsof Jerusalem

33Andtheyhaveturneduntometheback,andnottheface: thoughItaughtthem,risingupearlyandteachingthem, yettheyhavenothearkenedtoreceiveinstruction

34Buttheysettheirabominationsinthehouse,whichis calledbymyname,todefileit.

35AndtheybuiltthehighplacesofBaal,whichareinthe valleyofthesonofHinnom,tocausetheirsonsandtheir daughterstopassthroughthefireuntoMolech;whichI commandedthemnot,neithercameitintomymind,that theyshoulddothisabomination,tocauseJudahtosin 36AndnowthereforethussaiththeLORD,theGodof Israel,concerningthiscity,whereofyesay,Itshallbe deliveredintothehandofthekingofBabylonbythe sword,andbythefamine,andbythepestilence;

37Behold,Iwillgatherthemoutofallcountries,whitherI havedriventheminmineanger,andinmyfury,andin greatwrath;andIwillbringthemagainuntothisplace, andIwillcausethemtodwellsafely:

38Andtheyshallbemypeople,andIwillbetheirGod:

39AndIwillgivethemoneheart,andoneway,thatthey mayfearmeforever,forthegoodofthem,andoftheir childrenafterthem:

40AndIwillmakeaneverlastingcovenantwiththem,that Iwillnotturnawayfromthem,todothemgood;butIwill putmyfearintheirhearts,thattheyshallnotdepartfrom me

41Yea,Iwillrejoiceoverthemtodothemgood,andIwill planttheminthislandassuredlywithmywholeheartand withmywholesoul

42ForthussaiththeLORD;LikeasIhavebroughtallthis greateviluponthispeople,sowillIbringuponthemall thegoodthatIhavepromisedthem

43Andfieldsshallbeboughtinthisland,whereofyesay, Itisdesolatewithoutmanorbeast;itisgivenintothehand oftheChaldeans

44Menshallbuyfieldsformoney,andsubscribe evidences,andsealthem,andtakewitnessesinthelandof Benjamin,andintheplacesaboutJerusalem,andinthe citiesofJudah,andinthecitiesofthemountains,andin thecitiesofthevalley,andinthecitiesofthesouth:forI willcausetheircaptivitytoreturn,saiththeLORD

1MoreoverthewordoftheLORDcameuntoJeremiahthe secondtime,whilehewasyetshutupinthecourtofthe prison,saying,

2ThussaiththeLORDthemakerthereof,theLORDthat formedit,toestablishit;theLORDishisname;

3Calluntome,andIwillanswerthee,andshewtheegreat andmightythings,whichthouknowestnot.

4ForthussaiththeLORD,theGodofIsrael,concerning thehousesofthiscity,andconcerningthehousesofthe kingsofJudah,whicharethrowndownbythemounts,and bythesword;

5TheycometofightwiththeChaldeans,butitistofill themwiththedeadbodiesofmen,whomIhaveslainin mineangerandinmyfury,andforallwhosewickednessI havehidmyfacefromthiscity

6Behold,Iwillbringithealthandcure,andIwillcure them,andwillrevealuntothemtheabundanceofpeace andtruth

7AndIwillcausethecaptivityofJudahandthecaptivity ofIsraeltoreturn,andwillbuildthem,asatthefirst

8AndIwillcleansethemfromalltheiriniquity,whereby theyhavesinnedagainstme;andIwillpardonalltheir iniquities,wherebytheyhavesinned,andwherebythey havetransgressedagainstme.

9Anditshallbetomeanameofjoy,apraiseandan honourbeforeallthenationsoftheearth,whichshallhear allthegoodthatIdountothem:andtheyshallfearand trembleforallthegoodnessandforalltheprosperitythatI procureuntoit

10ThussaiththeLORD;Againthereshallbeheardinthis place,whichyesayshallbedesolatewithoutmanand withoutbeast,eveninthecitiesofJudah,andinthestreets ofJerusalem,thataredesolate,withoutman,andwithout inhabitant,andwithoutbeast,

11Thevoiceofjoy,andthevoiceofgladness,thevoiceof thebridegroom,andthevoiceofthebride,thevoiceof themthatshallsay,PraisetheLORDofhosts:forthe LORDisgood;forhismercyendurethforever:andof themthatshallbringthesacrificeofpraiseintothehouse oftheLORDForIwillcausetoreturnthecaptivityofthe land,asatthefirst,saiththeLORD

12ThussaiththeLORDofhosts;Againinthisplace, whichisdesolatewithoutmanandwithoutbeast,andinall thecitiesthereof,shallbeanhabitationofshepherds causingtheirflockstoliedown.

13Inthecitiesofthemountains,inthecitiesofthevale, andinthecitiesofthesouth,andinthelandofBenjamin, andintheplacesaboutJerusalem,andinthecitiesofJudah, shalltheflockspassagainunderthehandsofhimthat telleththem,saiththeLORD

14Behold,thedayscome,saiththeLORD,thatIwill performthatgoodthingwhichIhavepromiseduntothe houseofIsraelandtothehouseofJudah

15Inthosedays,andatthattime,willIcausetheBranch ofrighteousnesstogrowupuntoDavid;andheshall executejudgmentandrighteousnessintheland

16InthosedaysshallJudahbesaved,andJerusalemshall dwellsafely:andthisisthenamewherewithsheshallbe called,TheLORDourrighteousness

17ForthussaiththeLORD;Davidshallneverwantaman tosituponthethroneofthehouseofIsrael;

18NeithershalltheprieststheLeviteswantamanbefore metoofferburntofferings,andtokindlemeatofferings, andtodosacrificecontinually

19AndthewordoftheLORDcameuntoJeremiah,saying, 20ThussaiththeLORD;Ifyecanbreakmycovenantof theday,andmycovenantofthenight,andthatthere shouldnotbedayandnightintheirseason;

21ThenmayalsomycovenantbebrokenwithDavidmy servant,thatheshouldnothaveasontoreignuponhis throne;andwiththeLevitesthepriests,myministers

22Asthehostofheavencannotbenumbered,neitherthe sandoftheseameasured:sowillImultiplytheseedof Davidmyservant,andtheLevitesthatministeruntome

23MoreoverthewordoftheLORDcametoJeremiah, saying,

24Considerestthounotwhatthispeoplehavespoken, saying,ThetwofamilieswhichtheLORDhathchosen,he hathevencastthemoff?thustheyhavedespisedmy people,thattheyshouldbenomoreanationbeforethem.

25ThussaiththeLORD;Ifmycovenantbenotwithday andnight,andifIhavenotappointedtheordinancesof heavenandearth; 26ThenwillIcastawaytheseedofJacob,andDavidmy servant,sothatIwillnottakeanyofhisseedtoberulers overtheseedofAbraham,Isaac,andJacob:forIwill causetheircaptivitytoreturn,andhavemercyonthem

CHAPTER34

1ThewordwhichcameuntoJeremiahfromtheLORD, whenNebuchadnezzarkingofBabylon,andallhisarmy, andallthekingdomsoftheearthofhisdominion,andall thepeople,foughtagainstJerusalem,andagainstallthe citiesthereof,saying,

2ThussaiththeLORD,theGodofIsrael;Goandspeakto ZedekiahkingofJudah,andtellhim,ThussaiththeLORD; Behold,Iwillgivethiscityintothehandofthekingof Babylon,andheshallburnitwithfire:

3Andthoushaltnotescapeoutofhishand,butshalt surelybetaken,anddeliveredintohishand;andthineeyes shallbeholdtheeyesofthekingofBabylon,andheshall speakwiththeemouthtomouth,andthoushaltgoto Babylon

4YethearthewordoftheLORD,OZedekiahkingof Judah;ThussaiththeLORDofthee,Thoushaltnotdieby thesword:

5Butthoushaltdieinpeace:andwiththeburningsofthy fathers,theformerkingswhichwerebeforethee,soshall theyburnodoursforthee;andtheywilllamentthee,saying, Ahlord!forIhavepronouncedtheword,saiththeLORD.

6ThenJeremiahtheprophetspakeallthesewordsunto ZedekiahkingofJudahinJerusalem,

7WhenthekingofBabylon'sarmyfoughtagainst Jerusalem,andagainstallthecitiesofJudahthatwereleft, againstLachish,andagainstAzekah:forthesedefenced citiesremainedofthecitiesofJudah.

8ThisisthewordthatcameuntoJeremiahfromtheLORD, afterthatthekingZedekiahhadmadeacovenantwithall thepeoplewhichwereatJerusalem,toproclaimliberty untothem;

9Thateverymanshouldlethismanservant,andeveryman hismaidservant,beinganHebreworanHebrewess,gofree; thatnoneshouldservehimselfofthem,towit,ofaJewhis brother

10Nowwhenalltheprinces,andallthepeople,whichhad enteredintothecovenant,heardthateveryoneshouldlet hismanservant,andeveryonehismaidservant,gofree, thatnoneshouldservethemselvesofthemanymore,then theyobeyed,andletthemgo

11Butafterwardtheyturned,andcausedtheservantsand thehandmaids,whomtheyhadletgofree,toreturn,and broughtthemintosubjectionforservantsandfor handmaids

12ThereforethewordoftheLORDcametoJeremiah fromtheLORD,saying,

13ThussaiththeLORD,theGodofIsrael;Imadea covenantwithyourfathersinthedaythatIbroughtthem forthoutofthelandofEgypt,outofthehouseofbondmen, saying,

14Attheendofsevenyearsletyegoeverymanhis brotheranHebrew,whichhathbeensolduntothee;and

whenhehathservedtheesixyears,thoushaltlethimgo freefromthee:butyourfathershearkenednotuntome, neitherinclinedtheirear

15Andyewerenowturned,andhaddonerightinmysight, inproclaiminglibertyeverymantohisneighbour;andye hadmadeacovenantbeforemeinthehousewhichis calledbymyname:

16Butyeturnedandpollutedmyname,andcausedevery manhisservant,andeverymanhishandmaid,whomye hadsetatlibertyattheirpleasure,toreturn,andbrought themintosubjection,tobeuntoyouforservantsandfor handmaids

17ThereforethussaiththeLORD;Yehavenothearkened untome,inproclaimingliberty,everyonetohisbrother, andeverymantohisneighbour:behold,Iproclaima libertyforyou,saiththeLORD,tothesword,tothe pestilence,andtothefamine;andIwillmakeyoutobe removedintoallthekingdomsoftheearth

18AndIwillgivethementhathavetransgressedmy covenant,whichhavenotperformedthewordsofthe covenantwhichtheyhadmadebeforeme,whentheycut thecalfintwain,andpassedbetweenthepartsthereof,

19TheprincesofJudah,andtheprincesofJerusalem,the eunuchs,andthepriests,andallthepeopleoftheland, whichpassedbetweenthepartsofthecalf;

20Iwillevengivethemintothehandoftheirenemies,and intothehandofthemthatseektheirlife:andtheirdead bodiesshallbeformeatuntothefowlsoftheheaven,and tothebeastsoftheearth

21AndZedekiahkingofJudahandhisprinceswillIgive intothehandoftheirenemies,andintothehandofthem thatseektheirlife,andintothehandofthekingof Babylon'sarmy,whicharegoneupfromyou

22Behold,Iwillcommand,saiththeLORD,andcause themtoreturntothiscity;andtheyshallfightagainstit, andtakeit,andburnitwithfire:andIwillmakethecities ofJudahadesolationwithoutaninhabitant.

CHAPTER35

1ThewordwhichcameuntoJeremiahfromtheLORDin thedaysofJehoiakimthesonofJosiahkingofJudah, saying,

2GountothehouseoftheRechabites,andspeakunto them,andbringthemintothehouseoftheLORD,intoone ofthechambers,andgivethemwinetodrink.

3ThenItookJaazaniahthesonofJeremiah,thesonof Habaziniah,andhisbrethren,andallhissons,andthe wholehouseoftheRechabites;

tents;thatyemaylivemanydaysinthelandwhereyebe strangers.

8ThushaveweobeyedthevoiceofJonadabthesonof Rechabourfatherinallthathehathchargedus,todrinkno wineallourdays,we,ourwives,oursons,norour daughters;

9Nortobuildhousesforustodwellin:neitherhavewe vineyard,norfield,norseed:

10Butwehavedweltintents,andhaveobeyed,anddone accordingtoallthatJonadabourfathercommandedus

11Butitcametopass,whenNebuchadrezzarkingof Babyloncameupintotheland,thatwesaid,Come,andlet usgotoJerusalemforfearofthearmyoftheChaldeans, andforfearofthearmyoftheSyrians:sowedwellat Jerusalem

12ThencamethewordoftheLORDuntoJeremiah, saying,

13ThussaiththeLORDofhosts,theGodofIsrael;Go andtellthemenofJudahandtheinhabitantsofJerusalem, Willyenotreceiveinstructiontohearkentomywords? saiththeLORD

14ThewordsofJonadabthesonofRechab,thathe commandedhissonsnottodrinkwine,areperformed;for untothisdaytheydrinknone,butobeytheirfather's commandment:notwithstandingIhavespokenuntoyou, risingearlyandspeaking;butyehearkenednotuntome 15Ihavesentalsountoyouallmyservantstheprophets, risingupearlyandsendingthem,saying,Returnyenow everymanfromhisevilway,andamendyourdoings,and gonotafterothergodstoservethem,andyeshalldwellin thelandwhichIhavegiventoyouandtoyourfathers:but yehavenotinclinedyourear,norhearkeneduntome

1AnditcametopassinthefourthyearofJehoiakimthe sonofJosiahkingofJudah,thatthiswordcameunto JeremiahfromtheLORD,saying, 2Taketheearollofabook,andwritethereinallthewords thatIhavespokenuntotheeagainstIsrael,andagainst Judah,andagainstallthenations,fromthedayIspake untothee,fromthedaysofJosiah,evenuntothisday.

3ItmaybethatthehouseofJudahwillhearalltheevil whichIpurposetodountothem;thattheymayreturn

everymanfromhisevilway;thatImayforgivetheir iniquityandtheirsin.

4ThenJeremiahcalledBaruchthesonofNeriah:and BaruchwrotefromthemouthofJeremiahallthewordsof theLORD,whichhehadspokenuntohim,uponarollofa book

5AndJeremiahcommandedBaruch,saying,Iamshutup; IcannotgointothehouseoftheLORD:

6Thereforegothou,andreadintheroll,whichthouhast writtenfrommymouth,thewordsoftheLORDintheears ofthepeopleintheLORD'Shouseuponthefastingday: andalsothoushaltreadthemintheearsofallJudahthat comeoutoftheircities.

7Itmaybetheywillpresenttheirsupplicationbeforethe LORD,andwillreturneveryonefromhisevilway:for greatistheangerandthefurythattheLORDhath pronouncedagainstthispeople

8AndBaruchthesonofNeriahdidaccordingtoallthat Jeremiahtheprophetcommandedhim,readinginthebook thewordsoftheLORDintheLORD'Shouse

9AnditcametopassinthefifthyearofJehoiakimtheson ofJosiahkingofJudah,intheninthmonth,thatthey proclaimedafastbeforetheLORDtoallthepeoplein Jerusalem,andtoallthepeoplethatcamefromthecitiesof JudahuntoJerusalem.

12Thenhewentdownintotheking'shouse,intothe scribe'schamber:and,lo,alltheprincessatthere,even Elishamathescribe,andDelaiahthesonofShemaiah,and ElnathanthesonofAchbor,andGemariahthesonof Shaphan,andZedekiahthesonofHananiah,andallthe princes

13ThenMichaiahdeclareduntothemallthewordsthathe hadheard,whenBaruchreadthebookintheearsofthe people

14ThereforealltheprincessentJehudithesonof Nethaniah,thesonofShelemiah,thesonofCushi,unto Baruch,saying,Takeinthinehandtherollwhereinthou hastreadintheearsofthepeople,andcome.SoBaruch thesonofNeriahtooktherollinhishand,andcameunto them.

16Nowitcametopass,whentheyhadheardallthewords, theywereafraidbothoneandother,andsaiduntoBaruch, Wewillsurelytellthekingofallthesewords

17AndtheyaskedBaruch,saying,Tellusnow,Howdidst thouwriteallthesewordsathismouth?

18ThenBaruchansweredthem,Hepronouncedallthese wordsuntomewithhismouth,andIwrotethemwithink inthebook

19ThensaidtheprincesuntoBaruch,Go,hidethee,thou andJeremiah;andletnomanknowwhereyebe.

20Andtheywentintothekingintothecourt,buttheylaid uptherollinthechamberofElishamathescribe,andtold allthewordsintheearsoftheking

21SothekingsentJehuditofetchtheroll:andhetookit outofElishamathescribe'schamber.AndJehudireaditin theearsoftheking,andintheearsofalltheprinceswhich stoodbesidetheking

22Nowthekingsatinthewinterhouseintheninthmonth: andtherewasafireonthehearthburningbeforehim 23Anditcametopass,thatwhenJehudihadreadthreeor fourleaves,hecutitwiththepenknife,andcastitintothe firethatwasonthehearth,untilalltherollwasconsumed inthefirethatwasonthehearth.

24Yettheywerenotafraid,norrenttheirgarments,neither theking,noranyofhisservantsthatheardallthesewords 25NeverthelessElnathanandDelaiahandGemariahhad madeintercessiontothekingthathewouldnotburnthe roll:buthewouldnothearthem

26ButthekingcommandedJerahmeelthesonof Hammelech,andSeraiahthesonofAzriel,andShelemiah thesonofAbdeel,totakeBaruchthescribeandJeremiah theprophet:buttheLORDhidthem.

27ThenthewordoftheLORDcametoJeremiah,after thatthekinghadburnedtheroll,andthewordswhich BaruchwroteatthemouthofJeremiah,saying,

28Taketheeagainanotherroll,andwriteinitallthe formerwordsthatwereinthefirstroll,whichJehoiakim thekingofJudahhathburned.

29AndthoushaltsaytoJehoiakimkingofJudah,Thus saiththeLORD;Thouhastburnedthisroll,saying,Why hastthouwrittentherein,saying,ThekingofBabylonshall certainlycomeanddestroythisland,andshallcauseto ceasefromthencemanandbeast?

30ThereforethussaiththeLORDofJehoiakimkingof Judah;HeshallhavenonetosituponthethroneofDavid: andhisdeadbodyshallbecastoutinthedaytotheheat, andinthenighttothefrost.

31AndIwillpunishhimandhisseedandhisservantsfor theiriniquity;andIwillbringuponthem,anduponthe inhabitantsofJerusalem,anduponthemenofJudah,all theevilthatIhavepronouncedagainstthem;butthey hearkenednot

32ThentookJeremiahanotherroll,andgaveittoBaruch thescribe,thesonofNeriah;whowrotethereinfromthe mouthofJeremiahallthewordsofthebookwhich JehoiakimkingofJudahhadburnedinthefire:andthere wereaddedbesidesuntothemmanylikewords

1AndkingZedekiahthesonofJosiahreignedinsteadof ConiahthesonofJehoiakim,whomNebuchadrezzarking ofBabylonmadekinginthelandofJudah

2Butneitherhe,norhisservants,northepeopleofthe land,didhearkenuntothewordsoftheLORD,whichhe spakebytheprophetJeremiah

3AndZedekiahthekingsentJehucalthesonofShelemiah andZephaniahthesonofMaaseiahthepriesttothe prophetJeremiah,saying,PraynowuntotheLORDour Godforus.

4NowJeremiahcameinandwentoutamongthepeople: fortheyhadnotputhimintoprison

JEREMIAH

5ThenPharaoh'sarmywascomeforthoutofEgypt:and whentheChaldeansthatbesiegedJerusalemheardtidings ofthem,theydepartedfromJerusalem

6ThencamethewordoftheLORDuntotheprophet Jeremiah,saying,

7ThussaiththeLORD,theGodofIsrael;Thusshallye saytothekingofJudah,thatsentyouuntometoenquire ofme;Behold,Pharaoh'sarmy,whichiscomeforthtohelp you,shallreturntoEgyptintotheirownland

8AndtheChaldeansshallcomeagain,andfightagainst thiscity,andtakeit,andburnitwithfire

9ThussaiththeLORD;Deceivenotyourselves,saying, TheChaldeansshallsurelydepartfromus:fortheyshall notdepart

10Forthoughyehadsmittenthewholearmyofthe Chaldeansthatfightagainstyou,andthereremainedbut woundedmenamongthem,yetshouldtheyriseupevery maninhistent,andburnthiscitywithfire

11Anditcametopass,thatwhenthearmyofthe ChaldeanswasbrokenupfromJerusalemforfearof Pharaoh'sarmy,

12ThenJeremiahwentforthoutofJerusalemtogointo thelandofBenjamin,toseparatehimselfthenceinthe midstofthepeople

13AndwhenhewasinthegateofBenjamin,acaptainof thewardwasthere,whosenamewasIrijah,thesonof Shelemiah,thesonofHananiah;andhetookJeremiahthe prophet,saying,ThoufallestawaytotheChaldeans.

14ThensaidJeremiah,Itisfalse;Ifallnotawaytothe ChaldeansButhehearkenednottohim:soIrijahtook Jeremiah,andbroughthimtotheprinces.

15WhereforetheprinceswerewrothwithJeremiah,and smotehim,andputhiminprisoninthehouseofJonathan thescribe:fortheyhadmadethattheprison.

16WhenJeremiahwasenteredintothedungeon,andinto thecabins,andJeremiahhadremainedtheremanydays;

17ThenZedekiahthekingsent,andtookhimout:andthe kingaskedhimsecretlyinhishouse,andsaid,Isthereany wordfromtheLORD?AndJeremiahsaid,Thereis:for, saidhe,thoushaltbedeliveredintothehandofthekingof Babylon

18MoreoverJeremiahsaiduntokingZedekiah,Whathave Ioffendedagainstthee,oragainstthyservants,oragainst thispeople,thatyehaveputmeinprison?

19Wherearenowyourprophetswhichprophesiedunto you,saying,ThekingofBabylonshallnotcomeagainst you,noragainstthisland?

20Thereforehearnow,Ipraythee,Omylordtheking:let mysupplication,Ipraythee,beacceptedbeforethee;that thoucausemenottoreturntothehouseofJonathanthe scribe,lestIdiethere

21ThenZedekiahthekingcommandedthattheyshould commitJeremiahintothecourtoftheprison,andthatthey shouldgivehimdailyapieceofbreadoutofthebakers' street,untilallthebreadinthecitywerespentThus Jeremiahremainedinthecourtoftheprison

CHAPTER38

1ThenShephatiahthesonofMattan,andGedaliahtheson ofPashur,andJucalthesonofShelemiah,andPashurthe

sonofMalchiah,heardthewordsthatJeremiahhadspoken untoallthepeople,saying,

2ThussaiththeLORD,Hethatremainethinthiscityshall diebythesword,bythefamine,andbythepestilence:but hethatgoethforthtotheChaldeansshalllive;forheshall havehislifeforaprey,andshalllive

3ThussaiththeLORD,Thiscityshallsurelybegiveninto thehandofthekingofBabylon'sarmy,whichshalltakeit. 4Thereforetheprincessaiduntotheking,Webeseech thee,letthismanbeputtodeath:forthusheweakeneththe handsofthemenofwarthatremaininthiscity,andthe handsofallthepeople,inspeakingsuchwordsuntothem: forthismanseekethnotthewelfareofthispeople,butthe hurt

5ThenZedekiahthekingsaid,Behold,heisinyourhand: forthekingisnothethatcandoanythingagainstyou.

6ThentooktheyJeremiah,andcasthimintothedungeon ofMalchiahthesonofHammelech,thatwasinthecourtof theprison:andtheyletdownJeremiahwithcords.Andin thedungeontherewasnowater,butmire:soJeremiah sunkinthemire

7NowwhenEbedmelechtheEthiopian,oneofthe eunuchswhichwasintheking'shouse,heardthattheyhad putJeremiahinthedungeon;thekingthensittinginthe gateofBenjamin;

8Ebedmelechwentforthoutoftheking'shouse,andspake totheking,saying,

9Mylordtheking,thesemenhavedoneevilinallthat theyhavedonetoJeremiahtheprophet,whomtheyhave castintothedungeon;andheisliketodieforhungerinthe placewhereheis:forthereisnomorebreadinthecity.

10ThenthekingcommandedEbedmelechtheEthiopian, saying,Takefromhencethirtymenwiththee,andtakeup Jeremiahtheprophetoutofthedungeon,beforehedie.

11SoEbedmelechtookthemenwithhim,andwentinto thehouseofthekingunderthetreasury,andtookthence oldcastcloutsandoldrottenrags,andletthemdownby cordsintothedungeontoJeremiah

12AndEbedmelechtheEthiopiansaiduntoJeremiah,Put nowtheseoldcastcloutsandrottenragsunderthine armholesunderthecordsAndJeremiahdidso

13SotheydrewupJeremiahwithcords,andtookhimup outofthedungeon:andJeremiahremainedinthecourtof theprison

14ThenZedekiahthekingsent,andtookJeremiahthe prophetuntohimintothethirdentrythatisinthehouseof theLORD:andthekingsaiduntoJeremiah,Iwillaskthee athing;hidenothingfromme.

15ThenJeremiahsaiduntoZedekiah,IfIdeclareitunto thee,wiltthounotsurelyputmetodeath?andifIgivethee counsel,wiltthounothearkenuntome?

16SoZedekiahthekingswaresecretlyuntoJeremiah, saying,AstheLORDliveth,thatmadeusthissoul,Iwill notputtheetodeath,neitherwillIgivetheeintothehand ofthesementhatseekthylife

17ThensaidJeremiahuntoZedekiah,Thussaiththe LORD,theGodofhosts,theGodofIsrael;Ifthouwilt assuredlygoforthuntothekingofBabylon'sprinces,then thysoulshalllive,andthiscityshallnotbeburnedwith fire;andthoushaltlive,andthinehouse:

18ButifthouwiltnotgoforthtothekingofBabylon's princes,thenshallthiscitybegivenintothehandofthe

Chaldeans,andtheyshallburnitwithfire,andthoushalt notescapeoutoftheirhand.

19AndZedekiahthekingsaiduntoJeremiah,Iamafraid oftheJewsthatarefallentotheChaldeans,lestthey delivermeintotheirhand,andtheymockme.

20ButJeremiahsaid,TheyshallnotdelivertheeObey,I beseechthee,thevoiceoftheLORD,whichIspeakunto thee:soitshallbewelluntothee,andthysoulshalllive.

21Butifthourefusetogoforth,thisisthewordthatthe LORDhathshewedme:

22And,behold,allthewomenthatareleftinthekingof Judah'shouseshallbebroughtforthtothekingof Babylon'sprinces,andthosewomenshallsay,Thyfriends havesettheeon,andhaveprevailedagainstthee:thyfeet aresunkinthemire,andtheyareturnedawayback

23Sotheyshallbringoutallthywivesandthychildrento theChaldeans:andthoushaltnotescapeoutoftheirhand, butshaltbetakenbythehandofthekingofBabylon:and thoushaltcausethiscitytobeburnedwithfire.

24ThensaidZedekiahuntoJeremiah,Letnomanknowof thesewords,andthoushaltnotdie

25ButiftheprinceshearthatIhavetalkedwiththee,and theycomeuntothee,andsayuntothee,Declareuntous nowwhatthouhastsaiduntotheking,hideitnotfromus, andwewillnotputtheetodeath;alsowhatthekingsaid untothee:

28SoJeremiahabodeinthecourtoftheprisonuntilthe daythatJerusalemwastaken:andhewastherewhen Jerusalemwastaken

CHAPTER39

1IntheninthyearofZedekiahkingofJudah,inthetenth month,cameNebuchadrezzarkingofBabylonandallhis armyagainstJerusalem,andtheybesiegedit

2AndintheeleventhyearofZedekiah,inthefourthmonth, theninthdayofthemonth,thecitywasbrokenup

3AndalltheprincesofthekingofBabyloncamein,and satinthemiddlegate,evenNergalsharezer,Samgarnebo, Sarsechim,Rabsaris,Nergalsharezer,Rabmag,withallthe residueoftheprincesofthekingofBabylon.

4Anditcametopass,thatwhenZedekiahthekingof Judahsawthem,andallthemenofwar,thentheyfled,and wentforthoutofthecitybynight,bythewayoftheking's garden,bythegatebetwixtthetwowalls:andhewentout thewayoftheplain

5ButtheChaldeans'armypursuedafterthem,and overtookZedekiahintheplainsofJericho:andwhenthey hadtakenhim,theybroughthimuptoNebuchadnezzar kingofBabylontoRiblahinthelandofHamath,wherehe gavejudgmentuponhim

6ThenthekingofBabylonslewthesonsofZedekiahin Riblahbeforehiseyes:alsothekingofBabylonslewall thenoblesofJudah

7MoreoverheputoutZedekiah'seyes,andboundhim withchains,tocarryhimtoBabylon.

8AndtheChaldeansburnedtheking'shouse,andthe housesofthepeople,withfire,andbrakedownthewalls ofJerusalem.

9ThenNebuzaradanthecaptainoftheguardcarriedaway captiveintoBabylontheremnantofthepeoplethat remainedinthecity,andthosethatfellaway,thatfellto him,withtherestofthepeoplethatremained

10ButNebuzaradanthecaptainoftheguardleftofthe poorofthepeople,whichhadnothing,inthelandofJudah, andgavethemvineyardsandfieldsatthesametime

11NowNebuchadrezzarkingofBabylongavecharge concerningJeremiahtoNebuzaradanthecaptainofthe guard,saying,

12Takehim,andlookwelltohim,anddohimnoharm; butdountohimevenasheshallsayuntothee

13SoNebuzaradanthecaptainoftheguardsent,and Nebushasban,Rabsaris,andNergalsharezer,Rabmag,and allthekingofBabylon'sprinces;

14Eventheysent,andtookJeremiahoutofthecourtof theprison,andcommittedhimuntoGedaliahthesonof AhikamthesonofShaphan,thatheshouldcarryhimhome: sohedweltamongthepeople

15NowthewordoftheLORDcameuntoJeremiah,while hewasshutupinthecourtoftheprison,saying,

16GoandspeaktoEbedmelechtheEthiopian,saying, ThussaiththeLORDofhosts,theGodofIsrael;Behold,I willbringmywordsuponthiscityforevil,andnotfor good;andtheyshallbeaccomplishedinthatdaybefore thee.

17ButIwilldelivertheeinthatday,saiththeLORD:and thoushaltnotbegivenintothehandofthemenofwhom thouartafraid.

18ForIwillsurelydeliverthee,andthoushaltnotfallby thesword,butthylifeshallbeforapreyuntothee: becausethouhastputthytrustinme,saiththeLORD.

CHAPTER40

1ThewordthatcametoJeremiahfromtheLORD,after thatNebuzaradanthecaptainoftheguardhadlethimgo fromRamah,whenhehadtakenhimbeingboundinchains amongallthatwerecarriedawaycaptiveofJerusalemand Judah,whichwerecarriedawaycaptiveuntoBabylon

2AndthecaptainoftheguardtookJeremiah,andsaidunto him,TheLORDthyGodhathpronouncedthisevilupon thisplace.

3NowtheLORDhathbroughtit,anddoneaccordingashe hathsaid:becauseyehavesinnedagainsttheLORD,and havenotobeyedhisvoice,thereforethisthingiscome uponyou.

4Andnow,behold,Iloosetheethisdayfromthechains whichwereuponthinehandIfitseemgooduntotheeto comewithmeintoBabylon,come;andIwilllookwell untothee:butifitseemilluntotheetocomewithmeinto Babylon,forbear:behold,allthelandisbeforethee: whitheritseemethgoodandconvenientfortheetogo, thithergo

5Nowwhilehewasnotyetgoneback,hesaid,Goback alsotoGedaliahthesonofAhikamthesonofShaphan, whomthekingofBabylonhathmadegovernoroverthe

citiesofJudah,anddwellwithhimamongthepeople:or gowheresoeveritseemethconvenientuntotheetogo.So thecaptainoftheguardgavehimvictualsandareward, andlethimgo.

6ThenwentJeremiahuntoGedaliahthesonofAhikamto Mizpah;anddweltwithhimamongthepeoplethatwere leftintheland

7Nowwhenallthecaptainsoftheforceswhichwerein thefields,eventheyandtheirmen,heardthatthekingof BabylonhadmadeGedaliahthesonofAhikamgovernor intheland,andhadcommitteduntohimmen,andwomen, andchildren,andofthepooroftheland,ofthemthatwere notcarriedawaycaptivetoBabylon;

8ThentheycametoGedaliahtoMizpah,evenIshmaelthe sonofNethaniah,andJohananandJonathanthesonsof Kareah,andSeraiahthesonofTanhumeth,andthesonsof EphaitheNetophathite,andJezaniahthesonofa Maachathite,theyandtheirmen

9AndGedaliahthesonofAhikamthesonofShaphan swareuntothemandtotheirmen,saying,Fearnottoserve theChaldeans:dwellintheland,andservethekingof Babylon,anditshallbewellwithyou.

10Asforme,behold,IwilldwellatMizpahtoservethe Chaldeans,whichwillcomeuntous:butye,gatheryewine, andsummerfruits,andoil,andputtheminyourvessels, anddwellinyourcitiesthatyehavetaken

11LikewisewhenalltheJewsthatwereinMoab,and amongtheAmmonites,andinEdom,andthatwereinall thecountries,heardthatthekingofBabylonhadlefta remnantofJudah,andthathehadsetoverthemGedaliah thesonofAhikamthesonofShaphan;

12EvenalltheJewsreturnedoutofallplaceswhitherthey weredriven,andcametothelandofJudah,toGedaliah, untoMizpah,andgatheredwineandsummerfruitsvery much

13MoreoverJohananthesonofKareah,andallthe captainsoftheforcesthatwereinthefields,cameto GedaliahtoMizpah,

14Andsaiduntohim,DostthoucertainlyknowthatBaalis thekingoftheAmmoniteshathsentIshmaelthesonof Nethaniahtoslaythee?ButGedaliahthesonofAhikam believedthemnot

1Nowitcametopassintheseventhmonth,thatIshmael thesonofNethaniahthesonofElishama,oftheseedroyal, andtheprincesoftheking,eventenmenwithhim,came untoGedaliahthesonofAhikamtoMizpah;andtherethey dideatbreadtogetherinMizpah

2ThenaroseIshmaelthesonofNethaniah,andtheten menthatwerewithhim,andsmoteGedaliahthesonof AhikamthesonofShaphanwiththesword,andslewhim,

whomthekingofBabylonhadmadegovernoroverthe land.

3IshmaelalsoslewalltheJewsthatwerewithhim,even withGedaliah,atMizpah,andtheChaldeansthatwere foundthere,andthemenofwar.

4Anditcametopasstheseconddayafterhehadslain Gedaliah,andnomanknewit,

5ThattherecamecertainfromShechem,fromShiloh,and fromSamaria,evenfourscoremen,havingtheirbeards shaven,andtheirclothesrent,andhavingcutthemselves, withofferingsandincenseintheirhand,tobringthemto thehouseoftheLORD

6AndIshmaelthesonofNethaniahwentforthfrom Mizpahtomeetthem,weepingallalongashewent:andit cametopass,ashemetthem,hesaiduntothem,Cometo GedaliahthesonofAhikam.

7Anditwasso,whentheycameintothemidstofthecity, thatIshmaelthesonofNethaniahslewthem,andcastthem intothemidstofthepit,he,andthementhatwerewith him

8Buttenmenwerefoundamongthemthatsaidunto Ishmael,Slayusnot:forwehavetreasuresinthefield,of wheat,andofbarley,andofoil,andofhoneySohe forbare,andslewthemnotamongtheirbrethren

3ThattheLORDthyGodmayshewusthewaywherein wemaywalk,andthethingthatwemaydo

4ThenJeremiahtheprophetsaiduntothem,Ihaveheard you;behold,IwillprayuntotheLORDyourGod accordingtoyourwords;anditshallcometopass,that whatsoeverthingtheLORDshallansweryou,Iwill declareituntoyou;Iwillkeepnothingbackfromyou.

5ThentheysaidtoJeremiah,TheLORDbeatrueand faithfulwitnessbetweenus,ifwedonotevenaccordingto allthingsforthewhichtheLORDthyGodshallsendthee tous

17Soshallitbewithallthementhatsettheirfacestogo intoEgypttosojournthere;theyshalldiebythesword,by thefamine,andbythepestilence:andnoneofthemshall remainorescapefromtheevilthatIwillbringuponthem

18ForthussaiththeLORDofhosts,theGodofIsrael;As mineangerandmyfuryhathbeenpouredforthuponthe inhabitantsofJerusalem;soshallmyfurybepouredforth uponyou,whenyeshallenterintoEgypt:andyeshallbe anexecration,andanastonishment,andacurse,anda reproach;andyeshallseethisplacenomore

19TheLORDhathsaidconcerningyou,Oyeremnantof Judah;GoyenotintoEgypt:knowcertainlythatIhave admonishedyouthisday

20Foryedissembledinyourhearts,whenyesentmeunto theLORDyourGod,saying,PrayforusuntotheLORD ourGod;andaccordinguntoallthattheLORDourGod shallsay,sodeclareuntous,andwewilldoit.

21AndnowIhavethisdaydeclaredittoyou;butyehave notobeyedthevoiceoftheLORDyourGod,noranything forthewhichhehathsentmeuntoyou.

22Nowthereforeknowcertainlythatyeshalldiebythe sword,bythefamine,andbythepestilence,intheplace whitheryedesiretogoandtosojourn.

1Anditcametopass,thatwhenJeremiahhadmadean endofspeakinguntoallthepeopleallthewordsofthe LORDtheirGod,forwhichtheLORDtheirGodhadsent himtothem,evenallthesewords,

2ThenspakeAzariahthesonofHoshaiah,andJohanan thesonofKareah,andalltheproudmen,sayingunto Jeremiah,Thouspeakestfalsely:theLORDourGodhath notsenttheetosay,GonotintoEgypttosojournthere:

3ButBaruchthesonofNeriahsetteththeeonagainstus, fortodeliverusintothehandoftheChaldeans,thatthey mightputustodeath,andcarryusawaycaptivesinto Babylon.

4SoJohananthesonofKareah,andallthecaptainsofthe forces,andallthepeople,obeyednotthevoiceofthe LORD,todwellinthelandofJudah.

5ButJohananthesonofKareah,andallthecaptainsofthe forces,tookalltheremnantofJudah,thatwerereturned fromallnations,whithertheyhadbeendriven,todwellin thelandofJudah;

9Takegreatstonesinthinehand,andhidethemintheclay inthebrickkiln,whichisattheentryofPharaoh'shousein Tahpanhes,inthesightofthemenofJudah;

10Andsayuntothem,ThussaiththeLORDofhosts,the GodofIsrael;Behold,IwillsendandtakeNebuchadrezzar thekingofBabylon,myservant,andwillsethisthrone uponthesestonesthatIhavehid;andheshallspreadhis royalpavilionoverthem

11Andwhenhecometh,heshallsmitethelandofEgypt, anddeliversuchasarefordeathtodeath;andsuchasare forcaptivitytocaptivity;andsuchasarefortheswordto thesword

12AndIwillkindleafireinthehousesofthegodsof Egypt;andheshallburnthem,andcarrythemaway captives:andheshallarrayhimselfwiththelandofEgypt, asashepherdputtethonhisgarment;andheshallgoforth fromthenceinpeace.

13HeshallbreakalsotheimagesofBethshemesh,thatis inthelandofEgypt;andthehousesofthegodsofthe Egyptiansshallheburnwithfire.

1ThewordthatcametoJeremiahconcerningalltheJews whichdwellinthelandofEgypt,whichdwellatMigdol, andatTahpanhes,andatNoph,andinthecountryof Pathros,saying,

2ThussaiththeLORDofhosts,theGodofIsrael;Yehave seenalltheevilthatIhavebroughtuponJerusalem,and uponallthecitiesofJudah;and,behold,thisdaytheyarea desolation,andnomandwelleththerein,

3Becauseoftheirwickednesswhichtheyhavecommitted toprovokemetoanger,inthattheywenttoburnincense, andtoserveothergods,whomtheyknewnot,neitherthey, ye,noryourfathers

4HowbeitIsentuntoyouallmyservantstheprophets, risingearlyandsendingthem,saying,Oh,donotthis abominablethingthatIhate

5Buttheyhearkenednot,norinclinedtheireartoturn fromtheirwickedness,toburnnoincenseuntoothergods.

6Whereforemyfuryandmineangerwaspouredforth,and waskindledinthecitiesofJudahandinthestreetsof Jerusalem;andtheyarewastedanddesolate,asatthisday.

7ThereforenowthussaiththeLORD,theGodofhosts, theGodofIsrael;Whereforecommityethisgreatevil againstyoursouls,tocutofffromyoumanandwoman, childandsuckling,outofJudah,toleaveyounoneto remain;

8Inthatyeprovokemeuntowrathwiththeworksofyour hands,burningincenseuntoothergodsinthelandofEgypt, whitheryebegonetodwell,thatyemightcutyourselves off,andthatyemightbeacurseandareproachamongall thenationsoftheearth?

9Haveyeforgottenthewickednessofyourfathers,andthe wickednessofthekingsofJudah,andthewickednessof theirwives,andyourownwickedness,andthewickedness ofyourwives,whichtheyhavecommittedinthelandof Judah,andinthestreetsofJerusalem?

10Theyarenothumbledevenuntothisday,neitherhave theyfeared,norwalkedinmylaw,norinmystatutes,that Isetbeforeyouandbeforeyourfathers 11ThereforethussaiththeLORDofhosts,theGodof Israel;Behold,Iwillsetmyfaceagainstyouforevil,and tocutoffallJudah.

12AndIwilltaketheremnantofJudah,thathavesettheir facestogointothelandofEgypttosojournthere,andthey shallallbeconsumed,andfallinthelandofEgypt;they shallevenbeconsumedbytheswordandbythefamine: theyshalldie,fromtheleastevenuntothegreatest,bythe swordandbythefamine:andtheyshallbeanexecration, andanastonishment,andacurse,andareproach

13ForIwillpunishthemthatdwellinthelandofEgypt, asIhavepunishedJerusalem,bythesword,bythefamine, andbythepestilence:

14SothatnoneoftheremnantofJudah,whicharegone intothelandofEgypttosojournthere,shallescapeor remain,thattheyshouldreturnintothelandofJudah,to thewhichtheyhaveadesiretoreturntodwellthere:for noneshallreturnbutsuchasshallescape.

15Thenallthemenwhichknewthattheirwiveshad burnedincenseuntoothergods,andallthewomenthat stoodby,agreatmultitude,evenallthepeoplethatdwelt inthelandofEgypt,inPathros,answeredJeremiah,saying, 16Asforthewordthatthouhastspokenuntousinthe nameoftheLORD,wewillnothearkenuntothee 17Butwewillcertainlydowhatsoeverthinggoethforth outofourownmouth,toburnincenseuntothequeenof heaven,andtopouroutdrinkofferingsuntoher,aswe havedone,we,andourfathers,ourkings,andourprinces, inthecitiesofJudah,andinthestreetsofJerusalem:for thenhadweplentyofvictuals,andwerewell,andsawno evil

18Butsinceweleftofftoburnincensetothequeenof heaven,andtopouroutdrinkofferingsuntoher,wehave wantedallthings,andhavebeenconsumedbythesword andbythefamine.

19Andwhenweburnedincensetothequeenofheaven, andpouredoutdrinkofferingsuntoher,didwemakeher cakestoworshipher,andpouroutdrinkofferingsuntoher, withoutourmen?

20ThenJeremiahsaiduntoallthepeople,tothemen,and tothewomen,andtoallthepeoplewhichhadgivenhim thatanswer,saying,

21TheincensethatyeburnedinthecitiesofJudah,andin thestreetsofJerusalem,ye,andyourfathers,yourkings, andyourprinces,andthepeopleoftheland,didnotthe LORDrememberthem,andcameitnotintohismind?

22SothattheLORDcouldnolongerbear,becauseofthe evilofyourdoings,andbecauseoftheabominationswhich yehavecommitted;thereforeisyourlandadesolation,and anastonishment,andacurse,withoutaninhabitant,asat thisday

23Becauseyehaveburnedincense,andbecauseyehave sinnedagainsttheLORD,andhavenotobeyedthevoiceof theLORD,norwalkedinhislaw,norinhisstatutes,norin histestimonies;thereforethisevilishappeneduntoyou,as atthisday.

24MoreoverJeremiahsaiduntoallthepeople,andtoall thewomen,HearthewordoftheLORD,allJudahthatare inthelandofEgypt:

25ThussaiththeLORDofhosts,theGodofIsrael,saying; Yeandyourwiveshavebothspokenwithyourmouths, andfulfilledwithyourhand,saying,Wewillsurely performourvowsthatwehavevowed,toburnincenseto thequeenofheaven,andtopouroutdrinkofferingsunto her:yewillsurelyaccomplishyourvows,andsurely performyourvows

18AsIlive,saiththeKing,whosenameistheLORDof hosts,SurelyasTaborisamongthemountains,andas Carmelbythesea,soshallhecome

19OthoudaughterdwellinginEgypt,furnishthyselftogo intocaptivity:forNophshallbewasteanddesolatewithout aninhabitant

20Egyptislikeaveryfairheifer,butdestructioncometh; itcomethoutofthenorth

21Alsoherhiredmenareinthemidstofherlikefatted bullocks;fortheyalsoareturnedback,andarefledaway together:theydidnotstand,becausethedayoftheir calamitywascomeuponthem,andthetimeoftheir visitation.

22Thevoicethereofshallgolikeaserpent;fortheyshall marchwithanarmy,andcomeagainstherwithaxes,as hewersofwood.

23Theyshallcutdownherforest,saiththeLORD,though itcannotbesearched;becausetheyaremorethanthe grasshoppers,andareinnumerable.

11Moabhathbeenateasefromhisyouth,andhehath settledonhislees,andhathnotbeenemptiedfromvessel

tovessel,neitherhathhegoneintocaptivity:thereforehis tasteremainedinhim,andhisscentisnotchanged.

12Therefore,behold,thedayscome,saiththeLORD,that Iwillsenduntohimwanderers,thatshallcausehimto wander,andshallemptyhisvessels,andbreaktheirbottles.

13AndMoabshallbeashamedofChemosh,asthehouse ofIsraelwasashamedofBetheltheirconfidence

15Moabisspoiled,andgoneupoutofhercities,andhis chosenyoungmenaregonedowntotheslaughter,saith theKing,whosenameistheLORDofhosts

2Therefore,behold,thedayscome,saiththeLORD,thatI willcauseanalarmofwartobeheardinRabbahofthe Ammonites;anditshallbeadesolateheap,andher daughtersshallbeburnedwithfire:thenshallIsraelbeheir untothemthatwerehisheirs,saiththeLORD

3Howl,OHeshbon,forAiisspoiled:cry,yedaughtersof Rabbah,girdyouwithsackcloth;lament,andruntoandfro bythehedges;fortheirkingshallgointocaptivity,andhis priestsandhisprincestogether

8Fleeye,turnback,dwelldeep,OinhabitantsofDedan; forIwillbringthecalamityofEsauuponhim,thetime thatIwillvisithim.

9Ifgrapegathererscometothee,wouldtheynotleave somegleaninggrapes?ifthievesbynight,theywilldestroy tilltheyhaveenough

1ThewordthattheLORDspakeagainstBabylonand againstthelandoftheChaldeansbyJeremiahtheprophet

2Declareyeamongthenations,andpublish,andsetupa standard;publish,andconcealnot:say,Babylonistaken, Belisconfounded,Merodachisbrokeninpieces;heridols areconfounded,herimagesarebrokeninpieces

3Foroutofthenorththerecomethupanationagainsther, whichshallmakeherlanddesolate,andnoneshalldwell therein:theyshallremove,theyshalldepart,bothmanand beast

4Inthosedays,andinthattime,saiththeLORD,the childrenofIsraelshallcome,theyandthechildrenof

Judahtogether,goingandweeping:theyshallgo,andseek theLORDtheirGod.

5TheyshallaskthewaytoZionwiththeirfaces thitherward,saying,Come,andletusjoinourselvestothe LORDinaperpetualcovenantthatshallnotbeforgotten.

6Mypeoplehathbeenlostsheep:theirshepherdshave causedthemtogoastray,theyhaveturnedthemawayon themountains:theyhavegonefrommountaintohill,they haveforgottentheirrestingplace

7Allthatfoundthemhavedevouredthem:andtheir adversariessaid,Weoffendnot,becausetheyhavesinned againsttheLORD,thehabitationofjustice,eventhe LORD,thehopeoftheirfathers.

8RemoveoutofthemidstofBabylon,andgoforthoutof thelandoftheChaldeans,andbeasthehegoatsbeforethe flocks.

9For,lo,IwillraiseandcausetocomeupagainstBabylon anassemblyofgreatnationsfromthenorthcountry:and theyshallsetthemselvesinarrayagainsther;fromthence sheshallbetaken:theirarrowsshallbeasofamighty expertman;noneshallreturninvain

10AndChaldeashallbeaspoil:allthatspoilhershallbe satisfied,saiththeLORD

11Becauseyewereglad,becauseyerejoiced,Oye destroyersofmineheritage,becauseyearegrownfatas theheiferatgrass,andbellowasbulls;

16CutoffthesowerfromBabylon,andhimthathandleth thesickleinthetimeofharvest:forfearoftheoppressing swordtheyshallturneveryonetohispeople,andthey shallfleeeveryonetohisownland

2AndwillsenduntoBabylonfanners,thatshallfanher, andshallemptyherland:forinthedayoftroublethey shallbeagainstherroundabout

3Againsthimthatbendethletthearcherbendhisbow,and againsthimthatliftethhimselfupinhisbrigandine:and spareyenotheryoungmen;destroyyeutterlyallherhost

4ThustheslainshallfallinthelandoftheChaldeans,and theythatarethrustthroughinherstreets.

5ForIsraelhathnotbeenforsaken,norJudahofhisGod, oftheLORDofhosts;thoughtheirlandwasfilledwithsin againsttheHolyOneofIsrael.

12SetupthestandarduponthewallsofBabylon,makethe watchstrong,setupthewatchmen,preparetheambushes: fortheLORDhathbothdevisedanddonethatwhichhe spakeagainsttheinhabitantsofBabylon.

13Othouthatdwellestuponmanywaters,abundantin treasures,thineendiscome,andthemeasureofthy covetousness

14TheLORDofhostshathswornbyhimself,saying, SurelyIwillfilltheewithmen,aswithcaterpillers;and theyshallliftupashoutagainstthee

15Hehathmadetheearthbyhispower,hehath establishedtheworldbyhiswisdom,andhathstretchedout theheavenbyhisunderstanding

16Whenheutterethhisvoice,thereisamultitudeof watersintheheavens;andhecauseththevapourstoascend fromtheendsoftheearth:hemakethlightningswithrain, andbringethforththewindoutofhistreasures.

17Everymanisbrutishbyhisknowledge;everyfounderis confoundedbythegravenimage:forhismoltenimageis falsehood,andthereisnobreathinthem.

18Theyarevanity,theworkoferrors:inthetimeoftheir visitationtheyshallperish

19TheportionofJacobisnotlikethem;forheisthe formerofallthings:andIsraelistherodofhisinheritance: theLORDofhostsishisname

20Thouartmybattleaxeandweaponsofwar:forwith theewillIbreakinpiecesthenations,andwiththeewillI destroykingdoms;

21AndwiththeewillIbreakinpiecesthehorseandhis rider;andwiththeewillIbreakinpiecesthechariotand hisrider;

28Prepareagainstherthenationswiththekingsofthe Medes,thecaptainsthereof,andalltherulersthereof,and allthelandofhisdominion

29Andthelandshalltrembleandsorrow:forevery purposeoftheLORDshallbeperformedagainstBabylon, tomakethelandofBabylonadesolationwithoutan inhabitant.

30ThemightymenofBabylonhaveforborntofight,they haveremainedintheirholds:theirmighthathfailed;they becameaswomen:theyhaveburnedherdwellingplaces; herbarsarebroken

31Onepostshallruntomeetanother,andonemessenger tomeetanother,toshewthekingofBabylonthathiscityis takenatoneend,

32Andthatthepassagesarestopped,andthereedsthey haveburnedwithfire,andthemenofwarareaffrighted.

33ForthussaiththeLORDofhosts,theGodofIsrael;The daughterofBabylonislikeathreshingfloor,itistimeto threshher:yetalittlewhile,andthetimeofherharvest shallcome

34NebuchadrezzarthekingofBabylonhathdevouredme, hehathcrushedme,hehathmademeanemptyvessel,he hathswallowedmeuplikeadragon,hehathfilledhisbelly withmydelicates,hehathcastmeout.

35Theviolencedonetomeandtomyfleshbeupon Babylon,shalltheinhabitantofZionsay;andmyblood upontheinhabitantsofChaldea,shallJerusalemsay.

36ThereforethussaiththeLORD;Behold,Iwillpleadthy cause,andtakevengeanceforthee;andIwilldryupher sea,andmakeherspringsdry.

37AndBabylonshallbecomeheaps,adwellingplacefor dragons,anastonishment,andanhissing,withoutan inhabitant.

38Theyshallroartogetherlikelions:theyshallyellas lions'whelps

39IntheirheatIwillmaketheirfeasts,andIwillmake themdrunken,thattheymayrejoice,andsleepaperpetual sleep,andnotwake,saiththeLORD

40Iwillbringthemdownlikelambstotheslaughter,like ramswithhegoats

41HowisSheshachtaken!andhowisthepraiseofthe wholeearthsurprised!howisBabylonbecomean astonishmentamongthenations!

42TheseaiscomeupuponBabylon:sheiscoveredwith themultitudeofthewavesthereof.

43Hercitiesareadesolation,adryland,andawilderness, alandwhereinnomandwelleth,neitherdothanysonof manpassthereby.

44AndIwillpunishBelinBabylon,andIwillbringforth outofhismouththatwhichhehathswallowedup:andthe nationsshallnotflowtogetheranymoreuntohim:yea,the wallofBabylonshallfall

45Mypeople,goyeoutofthemidstofher,anddeliverye everymanhissoulfromthefierceangeroftheLORD.

46Andlestyourheartfaint,andyefearfortherumourthat shallbeheardintheland;arumourshallbothcomeone year,andafterthatinanotheryearshallcomearumour, andviolenceintheland,ruleragainstruler

47Therefore,behold,thedayscome,thatIwilldo judgmentuponthegravenimagesofBabylon:andher wholelandshallbeconfounded,andallherslainshallfall inthemidstofher

48Thentheheavenandtheearth,andallthatistherein, shallsingforBabylon:forthespoilersshallcomeuntoher fromthenorth,saiththeLORD

49AsBabylonhathcausedtheslainofIsraeltofall,soat Babylonshallfalltheslainofalltheearth

50Yethathaveescapedthesword,goaway,standnotstill: remembertheLORDafaroff,andletJerusalemcomeinto yourmind

51Weareconfounded,becausewehaveheardreproach: shamehathcoveredourfaces:forstrangersarecomeinto thesanctuariesoftheLORD'Shouse

52Wherefore,behold,thedayscome,saiththeLORD,that Iwilldojudgmentuponhergravenimages:andthroughall herlandthewoundedshallgroan

53ThoughBabylonshouldmountuptoheaven,and thoughsheshouldfortifytheheightofherstrength,yet frommeshallspoilerscomeuntoher,saiththeLORD

54AsoundofacrycomethfromBabylon,andgreat destructionfromthelandoftheChaldeans:

55BecausetheLORDhathspoiledBabylon,anddestroyed outofherthegreatvoice;whenherwavesdoroarlike greatwaters,anoiseoftheirvoiceisuttered:

56Becausethespoileriscomeuponher,evenupon Babylon,andhermightymenaretaken,everyoneoftheir bowsisbroken:fortheLORDGodofrecompencesshall surelyrequite

57AndIwillmakedrunkherprinces,andherwisemen, hercaptains,andherrulers,andhermightymen:andthey shallsleepaperpetualsleep,andnotwake,saiththeKing, whosenameistheLORDofhosts.

58ThussaiththeLORDofhosts;Thebroadwallsof Babylonshallbeutterlybroken,andherhighgatesshallbe burnedwithfire;andthepeopleshalllabourinvain,and thefolkinthefire,andtheyshallbeweary

59ThewordwhichJeremiahtheprophetcommanded SeraiahthesonofNeriah,thesonofMaaseiah,whenhe wentwithZedekiahthekingofJudahintoBabyloninthe fourthyearofhisreignAndthisSeraiahwasaquietprince 60SoJeremiahwroteinabookalltheevilthatshould comeuponBabylon,evenallthesewordsthatarewritten againstBabylon

61AndJeremiahsaidtoSeraiah,Whenthoucomestto Babylon,andshaltsee,andshaltreadallthesewords;

62Thenshaltthousay,OLORD,thouhastspokenagainst thisplace,tocutitoff,thatnoneshallremaininit,neither mannorbeast,butthatitshallbedesolateforever

63Anditshallbe,whenthouhastmadeanendofreading thisbook,thatthoushaltbindastonetoit,andcastitinto themidstofEuphrates:

64Andthoushaltsay,ThusshallBabylonsink,andshall notrisefromtheevilthatIwillbringuponher:andthey shallbewearyThusfararethewordsofJeremiah

1Zedekiahwasoneandtwentyyearsoldwhenhebeganto reign,andhereignedelevenyearsinJerusalem.Andhis mother'snamewasHamutalthedaughterofJeremiahof Libnah.

2AndhedidthatwhichwasevilintheeyesoftheLORD, accordingtoallthatJehoiakimhaddone

3ForthroughtheangeroftheLORDitcametopassin JerusalemandJudah,tillhehadcastthemoutfromhis presence,thatZedekiahrebelledagainstthekingof Babylon

4Anditcametopassintheninthyearofhisreign,inthe tenthmonth,inthetenthdayofthemonth,that NebuchadrezzarkingofBabyloncame,heandallhisarmy, againstJerusalem,andpitchedagainstit,andbuiltforts againstitroundabout

5Sothecitywasbesiegeduntotheeleventhyearofking Zedekiah

6Andinthefourthmonth,intheninthdayofthemonth, thefaminewassoreinthecity,sothattherewasnobread forthepeopleoftheland

7Thenthecitywasbrokenup,andallthemenofwarfled, andwentforthoutofthecitybynightbythewayofthe gatebetweenthetwowalls,whichwasbytheking'sgarden; (nowtheChaldeanswerebythecityroundabout:)and theywentbythewayoftheplain.

8ButthearmyoftheChaldeanspursuedaftertheking,and overtookZedekiahintheplainsofJericho;andallhisarmy wasscatteredfromhim

9Thentheytooktheking,andcarriedhimupuntotheking ofBabylontoRiblahinthelandofHamath;wherehegave judgmentuponhim

10AndthekingofBabylonslewthesonsofZedekiah beforehiseyes:heslewalsoalltheprincesofJudahin Riblah

11ThenheputouttheeyesofZedekiah;andthekingof Babylonboundhiminchains,andcarriedhimtoBabylon, andputhiminprisontillthedayofhisdeath

12Nowinthefifthmonth,inthetenthdayofthemonth, whichwasthenineteenthyearofNebuchadrezzarkingof Babylon,cameNebuzaradan,captainoftheguard,which servedthekingofBabylon,intoJerusalem,

13AndburnedthehouseoftheLORD,andtheking's house;andallthehousesofJerusalem,andallthehouses ofthegreatmen,burnedhewithfire:

14AndallthearmyoftheChaldeans,thatwerewiththe captainoftheguard,brakedownallthewallsofJerusalem roundabout

15ThenNebuzaradanthecaptainoftheguardcarried awaycaptivecertainofthepoorofthepeople,andthe residueofthepeoplethatremainedinthecity,andthose thatfellaway,thatfelltothekingofBabylon,andtherest ofthemultitude

16ButNebuzaradanthecaptainoftheguardleftcertainof thepoorofthelandforvinedressersandforhusbandmen.

17Alsothepillarsofbrassthatwereinthehouseofthe LORD,andthebases,andthebrasenseathatwasinthe houseoftheLORD,theChaldeansbrake,andcarriedall thebrassofthemtoBabylon

18Thecaldronsalso,andtheshovels,andthesnuffers,and thebowls,andthespoons,andallthevesselsofbrass wherewiththeyministered,tooktheyaway

19Andthebasons,andthefirepans,andthebowls,andthe caldrons,andthecandlesticks,andthespoons,andthecups; thatwhichwasofgoldingold,andthatwhichwasof silverinsilver,tookthecaptainoftheguardaway.

20Thetwopillars,onesea,andtwelvebrasenbullsthat wereunderthebases,whichkingSolomonhadmadeinthe houseoftheLORD:thebrassofallthesevesselswas withoutweight.

21Andconcerningthepillars,theheightofonepillarwas eighteencubits;andafilletoftwelvecubitsdidcompassit; andthethicknessthereofwasfourfingers:itwashollow 22Andachapiterofbrasswasuponit;andtheheightof onechapiterwasfivecubits,withnetworkand pomegranatesuponthechapitersroundabout,allofbrass Thesecondpillaralsoandthepomegranateswerelikeunto these.

23Andtherewereninetyandsixpomegranatesonaside; andallthepomegranatesuponthenetworkwerean hundredroundabout

24AndthecaptainoftheguardtookSeraiahthechief priest,andZephaniahthesecondpriest,andthethree keepersofthedoor:

25Hetookalsooutofthecityaneunuch,whichhadthe chargeofthemenofwar;andsevenmenofthemthatwere neartheking'sperson,whichwerefoundinthecity;and theprincipalscribeofthehost,whomusteredthepeopleof theland;andthreescoremenofthepeopleoftheland,that werefoundinthemidstofthecity

26SoNebuzaradanthecaptainoftheguardtookthem,and broughtthemtothekingofBabylontoRiblah

27AndthekingofBabylonsmotethem,andputthemto deathinRiblahinthelandofHamath.ThusJudahwas carriedawaycaptiveoutofhisownland

28ThisisthepeoplewhomNebuchadrezzarcarriedaway captive:intheseventhyearthreethousandJewsandthree andtwenty:

29IntheeighteenthyearofNebuchadrezzarhecarried awaycaptivefromJerusalemeighthundredthirtyandtwo persons:

30InthethreeandtwentiethyearofNebuchadrezzar Nebuzaradanthecaptainoftheguardcarriedawaycaptive oftheJewssevenhundredfortyandfivepersons:allthe personswerefourthousandandsixhundred

31Anditcametopassinthesevenandthirtiethyearofthe captivityofJehoiachinkingofJudah,inthetwelfthmonth, inthefiveandtwentiethdayofthemonth,that EvilmerodachkingofBabyloninthefirstyearofhisreign lifteduptheheadofJehoiachinkingofJudah,andbrought himforthoutofprison,

32Andspakekindlyuntohim,andsethisthroneabovethe throneofthekingsthatwerewithhiminBabylon, 33Andchangedhisprisongarments:andhedid continuallyeatbreadbeforehimallthedaysofhislife.

34Andforhisdiet,therewasacontinualdietgivenhimof thekingofBabylon,everydayaportionuntilthedayof hisdeath,allthedaysofhislife.
