God’s BIG Story Teacher Outline

Creation and Fall (Scenes 1&2) Video Link

Genesis 1:1-11

Objective and aims. • To present the BIG story – the overarching story the Bible tells as opposed to telling the individual stories found in the Bible. • To help people see themselves as actors in God’s BIG picture • To promote a better understanding of Scripture as a cohesive whole • To encourage people to go deeper into the Bible and closer to God Outline – Genesis 1:1-11 Scenes 1&2 Creation and Fall Creation The Book of Genesis starts when God creates the heavens, earth, and all life. He creates humans in His own Image, then rests. Everything He made is good. Garden of Eden God puts Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, depicting a perfect environment and relationship with God, and blesses them to rule the earth and create like He does. The Rebellion God gives humans the ability to choose. A serpent tempts them to disobey God and sin contaminates humanity and creation. God prophesies redemption for humans. The Flood Humans populate the Earth and become exceptionally corrupt. Saddened, God floods the whole earth. Noah builds an ark and is spared. God reinstates His covenant with Noah. Scattering of Nations People repopulate, create Babylon, and desire a great tower to make themselves famous. God scatters and confuses them with different languages before it is built. Teacher’s task Give a brief intro to the video, reminding people that our focus is on the BIG story which divided into 5 Acts (1-5 above) to help folks remember the key phases of the story. Prepare your talk based on one (or more) of the events in your week’s outline. Feel free to draw from whatever aspects of the outline the Holy Spirit is prompting you to focus on – work to our usual timespan of 3040 mins INCLUDING the video. The only things we’d like you to include are: 1) The video for your week 2) A reminder of the 5 acts of the BIG picture 3) Please look for ways to ‘earth’ one or more of the key points in the video, into things BCF folks can apply in their day to day lives – Good biblical teaching leads to change, visible in the actions of people’s daily living.
