The proposal seeks an innovative systematic approach to redevelop the relationship between architecture and landscape and explores their non-linear interaction. Emergent architecture has always been considered lack of consideration of the site factors; yet the proposal tries to develop a series of generative methodologies that challenge this notion and generate a interactive feedback loop between the various system that operate within architecture and landscape system, and propose a new kind of combination of mixed land use scenario. Situated in the northern boundary of the master plan, the site is located by the southern side of Laguna del Condado (the “water). By suppressing the highway, redevelops the accessibility of the water from the inner city, and provides new public spaces interactive with the water and a small amount of commercial and residential units.

The course investigates the generation of form from non-linear systems by using Rhino scripting. By using a generative design methodology, this project tries to explore possible geometry by simulating the effect of wind and erosion towards a rigid body. The formation process includes recursion, agent codes and evolutionary optimization. Such logic and also be applied to simulate traffic flows within a building for open space formation.

Shanghai is divided into two by Huangpu River. The two parts contrast with distinct difference as the one and the new. Pudong (river east) has become such a warm bed for investment. It is a district envisioned for the future. However, due to the lack of social places and activities, many residents need to travel to Puxi (river west), the old city, for entertainment and socializing. Pudong is becoming solely a living machine. The project learns from the context of old Puxi and pick up what can balance Pudong to any extent in order to improve its situation, in particular the paradox between investment and local community, commercial return and public realm, economic growth and environmental preserve. The methodology we use is sampling an architectural element from an existing typology available in Puxi and evolving into new urban prototypes tested on a given site.

The course investigates the techniques for integrating environmental performance analysis and the design of buildings with an emphasis on parametric method. This project tries to explore how high-rise buildings can respond to different daylight condition in different climate zone. By using analytical tools to examine the environmental situation of the site, different decision-making and parametric from control methods are used to develop a highperformacne design in response to the environment. Due to different daylight condition, the towers will have different shape and openings which are optimized to specific site.

More than a year after the January 2010 earthquake, 90% of the total rubble generated during the disaster—a staggering 706 million cubic feet remains unmoved. To get rid of the remaining rubble at the current rate would cost $1.5 billion and would take over a decade of constant hauling from scattered sites throughout Port-au-Prince to dump sites on the outskirts the city. A more effective alternative is to do something radical and historically unprecedented for cities that have suffered such devastation: leave the rubble and fragments in place. Rebuilding in-site proposes both a decentralized, crowd-sourced approach as well as a more organized top-down planning methodology. The two separate methods will encourage both the government and Haitians to contribute to the redevelopment of Haiti with appropriate solutions.
