Audi extends its Q family with this compact SUV, the Audi Q2. It's an urban-type vehicle for everyday driving and has been developed with special design characteristics specific to this model. The interior of the Q2 takes up the angular form of the exterior and offers ample space for five. The four doors open wide making the entry comfortable and the seating positions for the driver and front passenger are sporty.

On offer is a selection of six engines, three TFSI and three TDI engines. The smallest is the 1.0 TFSI producing 116bhp, the 1.4 TFSI produces 150bhp, the top petrol engine is the powerful 2.0 TFSI with 190bhp. The entry diesel engine is the powerful four-cylinder 1.6 delivering 116bhp. The top dog is the 2.0 TDI, which Audi offers at two output levels: a frontwheel drive version with 150bhp and a quattro version with 190bhp with S tronic.

The new Audi connect SIM will be available with the optional Audi connect equipment package. This is a permanently installed SIM card which brings the connect services on board, including navigation with Google Earth and Google Street View, travel, traffic and parking information, along with access to Twitter and your email in-box.

Base price is 22,900€, top TFSI lists for 31,800€, most powerful diesel 34,000€.

Driverless Roborace Car Crashes. A landmark race between two driverless electric cars has ended badly for one of them. The Devbot vehicle crashed out of the Roborace competition after misjudging a corner while travelling at high speed. The incident occurred ahead of the start of the last Formula E electric car race in Buenos Aires. The other vehicle managed to complete the course reaching a top speed of 186kmph and was itself involved in an incident when a dog ran on to the track. The car was able to slow down, avoid it and take another path. The Devbots are controlled by artificial intelligence software using a laser-based Lidar (light detection and ranging) system and other sensors to guide themselves. They also communicate to avoid collisions with each other. We reported on the test run at UK's Donington Park circuit last August, but this was the first time they had publicly displayed two vehicles competing against each other. Cars Up For Auction. 1. Hillman Imp This car took part in the 1967 Monte Carlo Rally and could fetch up to £50,000 at auction on 4 March. The specially modified Hillman Imp was built in 1966 and will be sold at Richard Edmonds Auctions in Chippenham. The Imp is being sold by private collector Mark Tudge who has owned the car since 2013, and has said that the car's scratched paintwork was a reminder of its racing days, so it has not been refurbished.

3. Ferrari 330GT. A motor racing enthusiast left a £500,000 Ferrari to East Anglian Air Ambulance (where Prince William works) in his will to thank them for saving a friend's life in a crash. Richard Allen, a former chairman of the Ferrari Owners’ Club, bought the 1964 Ferrari Nembo Spyder 330GT from Italy in the 1990s. The car will be sold by the air ambulance service at auctioneers H&H Classics at the Imperial War Museum at Duxford in Cambridgeshire.

2. Porsche 928 Once owned by George Harrison from The Beatles, this rare black Porsche 928 is also being auctioned this month. The vehicle is currently owned by Raj Sedha, Right: Ferrari who bought it in 2003. The musician, who bought the 330GT & East car in 1980, reportedly drove it regularly when he lived Anglian Air in Oxfordshire. Dutch company PAL-V is selling the world’s first production road and air-legal flying car. Its three-wheeled Liberty flying car has a 99bhp driving engine and a 197bhp flying engine. The PAL-V Liberty, the world’s first commercial flying car, is now on sale priced from €499,000 which includes some flight instruction sessions, power heating and personalisation options. Dutch manufacturer PAL-V claims its Liberty is fully compliant with existing regulations and says it represents a “pivotal time in aviation and mobility history”. Only 90 will be sold, with around half of them heading to Europe, with first customer deliveries scheduled for the end of 2018. It has lowered suspension and a tilting two person cockpit. To convert the car from drive to fly mode or vice versa takes around 5-10 minutes, according to PAL-V. You also need a license to fly, and you can’t just take off and land anywhere; PAL-V says the Liberty requires take-off space of around 90-200x200 metres without obstacles. It says that small airstrips, aerodomes, glider sites and ultralight airfields will be most appropriate.

The Phoenix Car Club annual treasure hunt took place recently and 19 crews participated on a route which started at La Fuente and took in San Miguel, Rebate, Pilar de la Horadada, San Javier, and Lo Pagan before returning to Los Cucalos restaurant Villamartin for lunch and prizegiving. The winners were Ian and Carol Smith with Roger Drew and Anne-Marie Tasney in second place and Colin and Ann Edghill third.

Frank Roscoe became the star of Channel 5’s ‘Bargain Loving Brits in the Sun’ last month when the show featured his family-run company FWR - €urocars. The programme followed Frank and his team over one week and what a week it was! Spurred on by Frank’s fun little bets, 8 cars were sold in total over the week, equalling their best ever week. They even sold the most expensive car on the forecourt, a Mercedes convertible SL55 AMG. Spanish Road Traffic Accidents and Speed Camera information Jill Carter Spain has had a reducing road accident rate year on year but the Government were unhappy when the trend turned upwards in 2015. Following discussion it was thought necessary to implement more measures to combat this for the future. The European Commission has adopted an ambitious Road Safety Programme which aims to cut road deaths in Europe between 2011 and 2020. The programme sets out a mix of initiatives, at European and national level, focussing on improving vehicle safety, the safety of infrastructure and road users' behaviour. See chart with projections to 2020. In 2011 more than 30,000 people died on the roads of the European Union which equates with a medium sized town such as Denia. It is a potential socio-economic disaster since for every death on Europe's roads, there are estimated to be four life changing injuries such as damage to the brain or spinal cord as well as fifty lesser injuries. This has a large impact on the individual and their family, plus their future medical and possible financial support will be a drain on national resources. The Traffic Department (DGT) has updated its list of especially dangerous stretches of secondary highways throughout the country, which will be subject to stepped-up radar patrolling, these can be checked on the DGT website. In a written release the department said: “Traffic accidents on secondary highways have been closely monitored. In the months of July, August and September one of every three traffic deaths happened on stretches of road identified as dangerous. There were 86 deaths in these zones.” The designation is based on the number of accidents, deaths and injuries, average speed of traffic and other factors. It would be sensible to familiarise oneself with any local black-spots as well as planning for a longer journey.

In 2015 Spain´s traffic authorities published their “Speed camera tolerance list”. This list stated that both static and temporary speed traps with limits of up to 100 kilometres per hour will be programmed to identify vehicles travelling at seven kilometres or more above the limit. Thus, for example, in a 60 kilometre zone the fine will be applied at 68 kilometres or more per hour. Above 100 kilometres zones the tolerance was set at 7% above the shown limit. This enables a vehicle to be driven upon the motorway at 130 kilometres per hour before a fine is levied. Eight in ten road deaths in Spain occur on secondary roads which in 2014 amounted to 892 from a total on all roads of 1,131. When driving on the motorway hemmed in by a seemingly endless convoy of trucks one could be forgiven for thinking the situation is more dangerous than the figures suggest. N332.es

It is prudent to stick to the speed limit and the aforementioned tolerance is for information only and may be changed by the authorities without notice. Also remember that a vehicle spotting a speed camera may make a sudden and unexpected move such as rapid application of the brakes that may cause the driver to lose control.

THE MOTORSPORT MONTH by Richard O'Rourke 2017 WRC Sweden Kris Meeke has not had the best start to the 2017 season retiring on both the Monte Carlo and Swedish rallies but his misfortune is nothing compared to that of Thierry Neuville. The Belgian in his Hyundai i20 Coupe had a substantial lead in the Monte when he clipped a rock and broke his suspension but worse was to follow in Sweden when, again in the lead by a long way, he stuffed it in front of a huge crowd on the spectator special at the Karlstad trotting track. Poor man must be wondering what he has to do to win. Concentrate harder and don’t take risks is the answer. In Monte Carlo Ogier was the beneficiary of Neuville’s misfortune but in Sweden it was Jari Matti Latvala who inherited the lead and went on to take a maiden victory in the Toyota Yaris. The Estonian pushed Latvala hard right to the end and looks to be very much at home in the works Fiesta while Ogier is getting used to the car and clocking up the points. Dani Sordo was fourth in his Hyundai ahead of Craig Breen (Citroen) and Elfyn Evans in the D Mack Ford. Four different manufacturers in the top five finishers. Looks good for the remainder of the season I’d say! Next stop is the high altitude and dust of Mexico on the second weekend of March. Watch out for it on BT Sport.

Formula E Reigning Formula E Champion Sebastien Buemi has made Formula E history by becoming the first driver to win three races in a row. Victory for the Renault e.dams ace continues the perfect start to his title defence. It was his ninth win in the all-electric street racing series, and the 12th for the team. That means Renault e.dams have now won half of all the Formula E races that have taken place. His latest win was in front of a crowd of 21,000 fans in Buenos Aires. The next race is in Mexico City at the historic Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez on April 1.

Ride 36: Pico Veleta So, carrying on from last month, we come to the Pico Veleta. In case you don´t know, this is mainland Spain´s second highest peak at 3398 mts, made famous by the Top Gear boys when they got all excited about the A-395 to the summit! Well, it´d be rude not to wouldn´t it? LOL!! No, of course I didn´t agree to go to Granada just so that I could ride the highest paved road in Europe!! Honest! LOL! The road from Granada is 43 Kilometers long, 40 of which are upward. On the way we passed the crystallined waters of the Embalse de Canales to our left,

But it does have vistas! The Pico Veleta and it´s slightly larger brother Mulhacen, can be seen as far away as Africa on clear days! I KNOW! Africa!? Incredibly, the Sierra Nevada was only designated as a Nature Park in 1998! With more than 20 peaks of over 3000mts, covering more than 82000 hectares, it is second only to the Alps in Europe! Even it´s own foothills, the Alpujarras are possibly better known thanks to Chris Stewart´s book Driving Over Lemons!! But you can rest assured, if you make the journey you will not be sorry, surrounded by such majesty and at such a height you can´t help but feel "closer to God"! A Funny Thing Happened.... by Richard O’Rourke In a new series of articles Richard O’Rourke recalls some amusing incidents which occurred during his time as roving photographer and reporter for Motoring News in the 1980s and ‘90s.

BRANDS HATCH TALES In 1982 the Marlboro British Grand Prix took place at Brands Hatch and the following year the event took place again but this time under the banner of the European GP. Money and politics dictated that the Grand Prix should move away from the homely Kent circuit and after a brief look at Donington Park would eventually settle at the flat and featureless Silverstone with it’s muddy car parks but with much larger capacity and therefore much more capacity to make money. Anyway, Kent rhymes with tent and so, in 1982, my two friends and I decided that we would set out from Ireland in my Fiat Ritmo Twin Cam complete with tent and camping equipment and would set up home for the weekend in the Brands Hatch press car park right next to the circuit. Apart from not being able to erect the tent (eventually completed with the aid of the car headlights) the plan went reasonably well and we were within crawling distance of the Kentagon (the circuit pub) and woke each morning to the alarm of screaming V8s. Heaven!.

The race was won by Niki Lauda in his McLaren followed by the two Ferraris of Pironi and Tambay. Derek Daly was fifth in the Williams which gave us something to shout about while his team mate Keke Rosberg retired but still went on to win the championship that year. Remarkably there were just 10 finishers while 16 drivers retired, mostly through mechanical failure. How times have changed!. After the race I was wandering around the pits snapping anything that moved or stood still and it was then that I spied the Goodyear truck surrounded by piles if discarded tyres. “Any chance I could have one of those?” said I. “Take the whole bloody lot if you like” said Mr Goodyear and so I looked at the sidewall markings and choose a rear tyre from Pironi’s Ferrari which had been used for qualifying on Saturday. I trudged back to the car park looking like the bass drummer in a brass band with my prize perched on my chest and my camera case swinging behind me and bashing my bum. When I got back to the car the lads had been busy packing and the car was full of tent, bags etc so where the hell was this monster tyre going to go. “I don’t care if one of you has to stay behind” said I “but this is going in”. Everything else came out and we packed the inside of the tyre with stuff and eventually it all fitted…just.

Off we went down the M4 towards Pembroke and the ferry and all was going to plan until we reached the other side where we encountered a belligerent Irish customs officer. Now this was the ‘80s when the Irish customs and immigration officers were on the lookout for anything suspicious but we were just three lads returning from a Grand Prix and so had nothing to worry about. Not a chance! “What’s that?” says he “It’s a tyre” says I. I swear he looked under the car to see if it was the same size as the others and immediately smelled a large, round, black rat. The disbelieving officer insisted that we take everything out of the car and I mean everything. When he was eventually satisfied that the tyre was a tyre and not something that was about to make a very loud noise and flatten half of Rosslare he turned his attention to it’s value and how much import duty it might attract. Being told it was worth nothing and was purely for souvenir value didn’t satisfy him until I showed him the stab wound in the sidewall which ensured that it could not be inflated…. ever again. We packed the car again and headed for home but that was not the end of the tyre tale. I decided that I would make it into a coffee table and took it to a glaziers where I asked if they could cut a piece of heavy smoked glass to fit where the wheel would have been. The whole place came to a standstill while the workforce stared at this huge tyre and asked many questions as to it’s provenence. The tyre did indeed serve as a coffee table until I was encouraged to grow up and put it outside where it belonged and there it remains to this day, a Formula 1 flowerpot.
