T
he 2017 academic year has been a vibrant and very positive one for Taylor’s Puchong. I am honored to be writing in this wonderful reflection of the hard work and achievements of our students and teachers after a progressive academic year. Much has been achieved with excellent gains being made across the subject and activity ranges complimented by an outstanding set of first IGCSE results. More examinations were sat in October and I look forward to seeing the results and celebrating the successes of our Year 11 as we wish them well on their way to pre-university studies or the world of employment. The end of this term also saw the first Graduation Ceremony for Year 11 that formally celebrates our premier students’ achievements and marks the end of their schooling with us as they transition on to their next exciting chapters. As a school we are very proud of all our students but the Year 11’s are the one’s who have braved their external examinations, pitting themselves against students globally in internationally rigorous tests of their knowledge and academic abilities. They are very much a credit to our school and very much representative of our ethos and RECIPE values.
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
This year has also seen a great many other achievements being celebrated across the school including sports. Our membership of KLISS has enabled us to compete in a wider range of high quality competitions and our
2
students have certainly stepped up as part of this. With awards across the range of sports we offer, I am indebted to our Sporting Staff and immensely proud of our students. In addition to our team efforts, a number of children from both the Primary and Secondary Schools have excelled in individual sporting achievements including Swimming and Golf. For the Performing Arts, we are blessed with some outstanding examples of student artwork talent some of which are displayed around the school campus. For Music and Drama, we have seen amazing productions this year in the form of Footloose, Taylor’s Got Talent and Taylorian Rhapsody. The level of student ability and commitment and willingness to engage in creativity are very impressive and I am delighted to be part of this wonderful learning community. A community that encourages us all to try new experiences and learn new skills. Finally, I would like to offer my thanks to Mr. Ian Schoeman, who has worked tirelessly to produce this Year Book that provides such a positive insight into our school and the wonderful work, achievements and abilities of our young people. In closing, I would like to wish you all the very best for a restful and enjoyable end of term vacation and I very much look forward to welcoming you back to TISPC in January. O
ur third annual Yearbook is now in your hands and we are so pleased to present you with a snapshot of all the exciting things that have happened at TISPC this year.
Each year more and more seems to be happening here! TISPC continues to grow from strength to strength and we were pleased to note some of these areas of growth in this year’s yearbook. Most notable events were the various cultural assemblies and days like Chinese New Year, Hari Raya and Deepavali amongst others. There were also highlights on the sports field where a number of our teams beat out opposition to be crowned champions in various sports. Our Performing Arts team have also successfully completed a bumper 2017 season and plan to do even more next year. Academically, our first set of IGCSE exams took place in May and November this year. Results have been very good and we look forward to reporting on them in more detail in next year’s yearbook. Change is inevitable and there have been many changes at the school. We bid farewell to our founding principal, Mr. Paul Rogers. Mr. Rogers had been at TISPC since the beginning and was instrumental in setting up and implementing various policies, staffing the school and officially opening its doors in April last year. Mr. Rogers took up another founding principal position at Wellington School in Hangzhou, China and we wish him well in his future endeavours.
Mr. David Flint took over the reigns at the start of term 3 and there is a renewed energy and dynamism at the school. Mr. Flint joins us from Dubai, U.A.E, and is highly respected and revered. We wish Mr. Flint a very prosperous and rewarding future here at TISPC. Ms Lynne Cadenhead was with us for two terms while TISPC searched for a new Head of Primary. In the third term we welcomed Mr. Marco Damhuis who joined us from the UK and he has managed to continue to steer the primary school to new heights. We wish him well for his future here with us. There were many other staff, both local and expatriate, who left and joined us this year and will be remiss of us not to wish them well in their various endeavours too. To our new staff we warmly welcome you and know you will be an inspiration all those you come into contact with. The future looks brighter and brighter for the school and we will continue to work towards excellence in all areas of the holistic educational experience. I’d like to thank the Marketing team for your support over the course of this yearbook’s production. I look forward to a closer working relationship in the new year. We wish all families and friends of TISPC a good break and look forward to welcoming you back in the New Year. Mr Ian Schoeman Editor-in-Chief

GONG XI FA CAI Chinese New Year Celebrations
T
ISPC welcome the auspicious Year of the Rooster with various performances and games by the Primary and Secondary students in a special whole school assembly. A group of student drummers kicked off the celebration with unique Chinese festive drums, followed by the opening addressed by Mr Paul Rogers, our then Principal. A video featuring Chinese New Year cultures and practices, produced by Yang Jun from Year 9O was shown. Student performers from early years, primary and secondary captivated the audience with the Chinese New Year dances and songs. The Mandarin orange game participants and teachers received rousing cheers. Prize were given to game winners and the best effort in CNY classroom door decoration of secondary classes. The highlight of the celebration, was of course, the ever-popular lion dance performance, that roared into the hall towards the end of the performance, symbolizing a new beginning of a good start for everyone ! Well done to our student emcees Janice Lee, Chan Le Xuan, Vishnupriya Pukalenthi, Alan Chee and Wong Yau Hong. A big thank you to all teachers, students, school leaders and non-academic staff of TISPC for making this assembly a success and memorable one.

eepavali is called the festival of lights because Deepavali marks the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. To celebrate Deepavali, people set off fireworks, and light lamps. The celebrations take place over five days, two days before the main signature day of Deepavali and two days after. Deepavali is the biggest festival in India. People take the time during Deepavali to clean their homes, light sparklers and have assorted sweets and savouries in their homes. People adorn their finest clothes on Deepavali and many women get special henna tattoos. During PSHE this year, the students of year 7, 8, and 9 had various pre-competition done in school. These consist of drawing kolam, painting lamps and pots, making paper garlands as well as creating mandala art. Four representatives were selected from each classes and they showed their artistic side. Everyone was enthusiastic and couldn’t wait to start. There were also Deepavali decorations in the main atrium. The colours on it attracted the students to see what a marvelous piece of art it was.
DEEPAVALI
Vinita and Ashley as the emcees, kicked off the assembly with a very fine speech which was to the delight of everyone on 11th of October 2017. Mr Mike and Ms Emily were invited onto stage to light the candles as Daarshini played a song on the veenai. Subsequently the Key Stage 3 students performed a wonderful and well choreographed dance. Everyone was cheering at the end as they wanted to see more performance. After the dance, there was a competition for year 10 students. They had to tie a sari onto the contestants, then the contestants had to walk to the next station to get their hands covered in patterns which were drawn on them using the henna dyes. Once all have been completed, they were blindfolded and had to use sticks to hit the pinatas which were hanging down from the basketball backboard. Prizes were then given out to the winners. Soon another dance was performed by the KS4 girls. There was loud applause for the performers. Just as we all thought that the performances were over, and that it was time to head back to our classes, the emcees surprised us with another dance performance. This time, by our beloved teachers. Everyone joined in and cheered and clapped along to the beat. It was an enjoyable and memorable assembly. By: Jason Ng Yuen Jie (8C)

ari Raya Aidil Fitri happens once every year. Hari Raya marks the end of a month long fasting in the holy month of Ramadan for Muslims. It is a time for festivities where Muslim families return to their hometown to visit their parents or grandparents as well as relatives. New clothes will be worn for the occasion, followed by a trip to the mosque where special prayers are recited. Many scrumptious meals are prepared. Malaysia, being a multiracial country, everyone including non-Muslims join in the celebration and festivities. Our school, TISPC also had activities in conjunction with Hari Raya celebration. Year 8 students were assigned to do posters, bearing the Hari Raya festivities theme. Everyone was thrilled and excited. The end results were remarkable. This activity really got our creative juices flowing! The main event was the performance during assembly. It was kicked off by Puan Noor, reciting a poem. The emcee then narrated a story of a malay couple getting married. Subsequently performers started acting out the Malay wedding scene, dance and ‘silat’ performance. The guests of honour blessed the newlyweds with flowers. There was a moment of comedic relief, where confetti was thrown at the bride and groom’s faces! The couple then argued about which village to visit first during Hari Raya. Soon after, they let bygones be bygones. A group of students sang the famous song by the late Datuk Sudirman Bin Haji Arshad, ‘“Balik kampung’. A short sketch was then performed which
depicted the hustle and bustle of a open house during Hari Raya. There was a video dedicated to Mr Paul Rogers, followed by an amazing acapella performance. All good things must come to an end! The assembly ended with a dance performed by some of our lovely teachers. Following are some comments from students and teachers about the assembly : “It was an informative performance, which showcased many different cultures; an eye-opener for many non-malays. It was also an entertaining performance!” - Adelle, 8P “I think they tried their best and did a really great job. Well done!” -Afiq, 8U “It was truly a gleeful and colorful assembly, showcasing many unique Malay traditions. It was informative and simply singular.” -Megan, 8C “It is definitely better than reading any books in my entire life!” -Leonardo, 10U “It was funny and I really enjoyed it. It was a whole new experience for me and it has showcased the Malaysian cultural diversity” - Ms Latha “Showed the culture in a very clear way. The play that was performed by Alvin was very funny and last but not least, the emcee was spectacular” Ms Alexandria By: Jason Ng Yuen Jie (8C)

Teacher’s Day
T
eachers are the backbone of society. They are the people who guide us, nurture us to become successful in life, teaching us to be the leaders of tomorrow. Although the life of a teacher may not be glamorous in most people’s eyes, teachers play an important role in the success of a country, a nation. Teacher’s Day is the day when all students show their appreciation for their dear teachers, whether through actions, words or gifts. On this very special date, gifts were given to the teachers nearest to our hearts, thank yous and greetings exchanged. Everyone wore smiles on their faces, especially our teachers.
A special assembly was prepared by the school to celebrate Teachers Day. When all of us were settled down in the hall, Alvin came on stage. With just the right amount of humor, he voiced out all of our gratitude to the teachers, telling them what they mean to us. After that amazing speech, the students of 8P staged a performance, dancing and singing “Fight Song”. Some of the students came on stage and danced to a K-Pop song, 2 girls busted out their inner Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston, singing “When You Believe” with their breathtaking voices. Neo Baker sang Come Fly With Me with his husky voice, prompting the audience to sway to the beat.
10
Out of nowhere, the witty emcees pranced across the hall together during this performance, laughing their heads off! A beatboxing performance was brought to us by a few boys, leaving the audience trying to beatbox in vain. 4 girls sang Symphony with angelic voices, and two pairs of girls sang their hearts out onstage. Last but not least, someone we would never have thought would perform came on stage - Miss Jannah! With her electric guitar, Miss Jannah went all Lady Gaga when she sang Million Reasons onstage. At the end of the assembly, a surprise was revealed- Mr Moreton and Mr Isaac were invited to play table tennis, thus the official start of the Teachers vs Students sports activities that we were all waiting for. Boys and girls all enthusiastically took the chance to play against their teachers, to see if they could beat them at a game. Even so, losing and winning was put to the backs of our minds as everyone was focused on one thing - having fun! At the end, teachers and students alike had big grins on their faces, along with stories to tell their families and friends. By: Natalie Tan Jing (8P)

Shadow And Truth - Poem by Chong Li Hong 8U. The modern world is full of lies, The truth’s been hidden from the start. Mysteries spiral and riddles defined, Gun shots fire and ravens cry. For shadows and lies and truths collide. One called a thief, one called a liar, One called an imposter and a heart-breaker. With all this judgement it’s hard to imply Which is fake or true, you can’t deny. For shadows and lies and truths collide. Stories have told of an unlucky three, A police with fire in his heart. He cant put it out, no matter what, His consciousness fades from ten to none. For shadows and lies and truths are gone.
Down the streets of Ganford Lane, A profiler wanders with a cane Mysteries shatter within his fingers But no matter how sharp he can’t pull the trigger, For shadows have taken everything. Down in a basement, ten foot deep, The feelings of a psychiatrist hop and leap. His dark sense of humour can never hide, His true dark nature, deep inside. For shadows and lies and truths collide. The story does not focus on these three men, But on all the secrets they hide within. Every person you meet on a single street. You can’t just define what they all see, For the shadows overtook and the truths flee. Organisations and gangs swarmed the street. In the corner, you’ll never know who you’ll meet. One friend can easily betray the other. The other can easily find another. Perfect opportunity. A murder happened but no one cared, It’s hard to avoid their deadly stares. Words silenced immediately from the start, To the12 head or to the heart, For the lies and truths are now apart.

CLASS 9PUCHONG
s it was every year before this, Book Week is an annual activity for students to learn, explore and experience the magical world of literature. It has always been something that all students look forward to, and this time it was no exception. This year’s Book Week had Poetry for a theme, and everything that we did was about it. The door decorations, the competitions, the English lessons…… everything! The budding poets in our school were most excited, and were on their toes waiting for Poetry Week to arrive. When it finally did, a whirlwind of festivity followed it. The library set up some games in the spirit of Poetry Week, including guessing games and crosswords. The door decorations we did for our classrooms were all breathtaking, owing to the amount of work and time we put into this project. The year 7 theme was Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes, Year 8’s was Animal and Mythical Creatures and
Year 9’s Love Poems. During English lessons, our teachers showed us some amazing videos of slam poetry performances and we wrote poems for a poetry competition. Many wonderful poems were among them, written by extremely talented students.
But among all the cool activities we did, the most exciting part of the week was the poetry workshop, held by the famous international poet, ‘Dreadlock Alien’! The whole workshop was great, and we got to learn how to write slam poetry from the master himself. He also showed us how to incorporate beatboxing with poetry when performing, and performed for us too. During the workshop, we got to write our own slam poetry, and some entered the mini slam poetry competition. Our beloved Math teachers were the judges, and we all had tons of fun listening to the poems written by our fellow friends. Some entries were entered into another slam poetry competition held by the school.
On the last day of Book Week, students all turned up wearing costumes about the poem their class selected, while Year 10 and 11 came wearing costumes about their favorite poem. Even the teachers joined the fun, coming to school wearing amazing costumes. During the special assembly for Book Week, prizes were given to the students who won the competitions, and all classes participated in the fashion show. There was even one for the teachers, who went on stage wearing the most magnificent costumes of all! Everyone loved the activities we did for Book Week this year, and we are all looking forward to next year’s Book Week! By: Natalie Tan Jing (8P)

t was with great excitement that we launched our first ever Eco-Week this year. The week ran from Monday 29th May to Friday 2nd June and was packed full of exciting activities that Students, Parents and Teachers were able to take part in. The activities were organised by our Eco-Committee, as part of their ongoing mission to achieve Green Flag status for our school. The aims of the week were: •To promote sustainability and eco-awareness •To encourage investment by all stakeholders in the long term sustainability of TISPC •To come together as the TISPC family and have lots of FUN Throughout the week students were able to win a set of 6 limited edition, button badges. They won them by actively participating in the activities and by displaying a commitment to sustainability. Recycle badge In order to win this badge, the pupils brought in some materials from home that would have otherwise ended up in a landfill. They were able to visit the recycling stand, which was manned by our students. We had a whole host of recycling brought in and in the months that have followed
14
Reuse badge In order to win this badge, students had to bring in at least one book for our book swap shop. We had an overwhelming response, with many student donating multiple books. We had the whole spectrum of literature from picture books, to textbooks to novels. Students across all years we able to dive in and find a book that suited their tastes. We had many students taking home books as presents for siblings and friends as well. At the end of the week, all of the left over books were donated to a local children’s charity and I am reliably informed that they have been put to great use helping less fortunate students learn to read. Grow badge In order to win this badge, students brought in a potted plant from home. It was fantastic to see the huge range of plants that were donated. Some students brought cuttings from their own garden, in a pot that they had made from up-cycled materials. Other students grew flowers from seeds and decorated their pots to make them unique. The donated plants were distributed around the school and now have they sunny homes in all of our classrooms, where they make our learning areas even more of an enjoyable environment. Reduce badge The most exciting part of the week came when the students were able to win the reduce badge by taking part in our zero waste picnic, which was held on
Thursday 1st June between 11.30 am and 12.30 pm. The entire school came together to eat their lunch. It was a real party atmosphere. It was fantastic to see the Primary and Secondary students reading to each other and sharing good times over their lunch. It was an experience that the students were talking about for many weeks afterwards and it planted the seeds for friendships between the year groups and schools. In terms of achieving a zero waste lunch, we were able to reduce our average waste that day by a whopping 90%, so well done students and parents! As Thursday 1st June fell during Ramadan, some of our Muslim friends were fasting. They were able to win a badge by snapping a picture of their zero waste breakfast or evening meal. During the picnic itself, they had a marvelous time in our “Magic Wallet Workshop, where they made a magic wallet out of recycled materials. Eco Distinction badge Students were able to win this badge by being nominated by a member of staff for their commitment to environmentalism. This was the most difficult badge to obtain and we only had 100 made. The students who were able to win one should be rightfully proud of their contribution. It was a great opportunity for students to think outside of the box in terms of how they can stand out among their peers, by doing something extra special. Some students gave up their lunchtime to clear the area outside the school of litter; some made posters to encourage people to recycle, or to teach them about how to reduce energy or water. One student was able to inspire their whole class to go green for the day.
The Year 3 & 4 students designed and made a planter out of recycled materials. The challenge was completed at home as part of an extended home learning activity. Parents were encouraged to work alongside their children and we had some really fantastic submissions. The planters can be seen brightening up the breakout areas on the second floor. Year 5 & 6 Students researched and presented their own big idea in answer to the question How can I make the world a greener place? We had some super submissions, from interactive games, to poster and powerpoint presentations. Great job year 5 and 6! The secondary school students did a research based project as well. Their question was How can we make TISPC more sustainable? Again we had some really stunning submissions from videos, to songs to powerpoint presentations, essays and posters. We are really thankful to the parents and the students for the way that they embraced and contributed to the week. The whole week was a whirlwind of learning activities and good old fashioned fun. It was so lovely to see our primary and secondary students bonding over such an important topic. I am sure we will repeat Eco week next year. By Mrs Charlie Baker
Big Idea badge In order to gain the Big Idea badge, students were able to submit an entry into our Big Idea competition. The competitions were broken down into different age categories to ensure that all students had the best chance of success and that they were doing a task that was suited to their age group. The EYFS and KS1 Students learned how to build terrariums. They were able to join forces with Mum and Dad to build a terrarium in any theme they liked. The top three winners recieved a cardboard playhouse, made from recycled materials.

OOTLOOSE The Musical became TISPC’s first ever school musical staged in our very own auditorium in July this year. With the founding of the Performing Arts department this year the Drama and Music team worked for many months auditioning, rehearsing and placing the final touches on what was to be the school’s biggest production since the school’s official launch. FOOTLOOSE featured the talents of the Secondary School pupils and we were lucky enough to cast some very strong leads in Nicholas Jee, Raisa Juswil, Sachin Dev and Avinash Austin, all year 11 students. The complete cast and crew consisted of approximately 120 students from different year groups in the secondary school. It is our mission to allow all students to experience being involved in a production at TISPC either onstage or backstage. F O O T L O O S E i s t h e s tory of Ren McCormack, a teenage boy from Chicago. He and his mother move to the small town of Bomont after his father abandons them. Upon arriving, Ren finds himself at odds with most of the town, including the

Reverend Bomont. The Reverend has convinced the town to outlaw dancing, which Ren finds unbelievable. With the help of Ariel (the Reverend’s daughter) and Willard (a country hick who becomes his best friend), Ren convinces the Reverend to let the teenagers dance, and in the process helps the town to heal from a tragedy that affected them all. Our production was also complimented by the musical talents of students and staff; even our then Principal, Mr. Paul Rogers was cast in the band! Under the Direction of Ms Rebecca Yap and conducted by Ms Hani Binti Ahmad Zuraidi, the live band proved to get feet tapping and audience members singing along! I thank all the band members for their hard work for this inaugural production. Our choreography and vocal direction was handled by Mr. Michael Parks, an industry professional from the United States of America. His talents and expertise in working with the students was a huge help in allowing us to bring the students up to show standards.

Our phenomenal actors and actresses could not have been just that without the behind the scenes work done by our backstage crew and staff who assisted. Thank you to Viki Pang and Megan Chin who were our Backstage managers, Eugene Teo who was our Photographer and Videographer for the event and last but not least the staff who assisted, Ms Vicki Pshiaos and Ms Diane Williams. Thank you too, to the Marketing team of TISPC – you are the dream team and I thank you so much for your support. I would also like to thank a very dedicated duo in the form of Ms Emily Vallance and Ms Charlie Baker who were amazing both in backstage and technical support. I am truly thankful for your commitment and dedication to the production and am so glad to have shared this with you. Taylors International School Puchong will continue to produce shows of the highest caliber and we look forward to building on our firm foundation. We are a very young department, with set goals and the enthusiasm to achieve and surpass expectations. By giving the students of the school an opportunity to be on stage, live, is to give them the freedom and space they need to experience something
new, challenging and to spark the appreciation for the Arts which is so desperately needed in today’s technosavvy world. We are excited to share our 2018 Theatre season with you and look forward to welcoming you all back to our auditorium next year. By: Mr Ian Schoeman Executive Director
Taylor’s first musical was set on stage from 19th July to 21st July 2017 where secondary students were seen busy preparing for the event. Students who participated in the band had spent around 2 months in preparing the musical numbers of different genres such as pop, rock, blues and ballad. The show begins with a medley piece and ended with a shout of encore. By: Ms Chong Jee Ying.

aylor’s Got Talent 2017 was one of the major events this year that was held on 13th of September. Its prominent purpose is to encourage students from our school to showcase their inner talents. It presents a distinguished opportunity for the students to develop their stage experiences and unleash their confidence. Amazingly, the tickets were completely sold out and it is an ecstatic result to witness. To complement this event, special arrangement was made so that everyone could enjoy a “cuppa cold icy Milo” from The Milo Truck too. This event is mainly run by me along with the school’s Interact club and a few teachers, namely Mr Ian Schoeman, Ms Ruby, Ms Jessica. Organising this event required a massive amount of responsibilities and teamwork. It took me and the rest, 3 long months to perfect the entire arrangement. One of my toughest challenges throughout this process was to deal with all the imperfections this event had brought about. However, I managed to overcome these challenges with my patience and determination to idealize every single phase being an extreme perfectionist. The winners of Taylor’s Got Talent were 3 group of astonishing and outstanding students. The grand prize goes to a group of gorgeous girls named Fabulous Five. They are Reysha(9C), Wen Xi(9P), Katherine(8U), JIa Ern(9H), and Zi Tian (9H). This group of five performed 3 songs in different genre with skillful dance moves and vocal interpretation. First runner up was Boon Kyiet from 11P. He performed “Shape Of You’ along with several instruments and a new fascinating gadget which is the looping machine. Second runner up goes to Ze Zeng from 8P. He has exceptional dance moves and he catches the audience’s attention with his tiny existence but domineering dance steps. Lastly, I hope Taylor’s Got Talent 2017 had delivered an excellent experience to everyone who came to support. Moreover, I sincerely appreciate all of the hard work from each contestant and the entire Interact Club. It is preposterous enough to imagine the possibilities of making this event happen without your cooperation and huge support. By Rachel Ting 9U

he Music Department provides performance opportunities for students through a variety of musical experiences. With support from the Performing Arts Faculty, the TAYLORIAN’S RHAPSODY performed a range of musical genres in performances by both primary and secondary students. As the name suggests, the concert was a platform for students to express their feelings and emotions through music. The one-hour concert featured mixed performances from cultural to electroacoustic instruments. There were a rendition of pop songs being mashed-up with classical themes by music bands alongside the heart-warming performance by the secondary Acapella group, the music night also showcased the first primary choir formed by TISPC. Not only they were singing their hearts out, they also performed energetic dances during the show. Another notable performance was the cultural performance featuring Chinese drums. Students managed their free time in between breaks as well as after school to practice for this concert, and worked very hard with the teachers to successfully carry it out. By: Ms Rebecca Yap

PRIMARY SPORTS DAY
G
old medals aren’t really made of gold. They’re made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts. For hundreds of children, this is one of the rare days when school is irresistible. To many of their parents, however, it is a day that still strikes dread in the heart. For them, sports days meant humiliation before both peers and perhaps, parents – last place in the obstacle races apparently confirming a fate as one of life’s losers. But that must not detract from those for whom sports day is a moment to savour, a joyous break from the usual routine, and more importan tly a chance for those who may never win academic glory to shine at last. For one day only, the criteria for success shift from the ability to do long division to the ability to do the long jump, a knack for reciting facts to a knack for running fast. Above all, sports day is a welcome escape from the classroom at school and the ever-present screens at home, a few hours of fresh air and, sometimes, sunshine. So abandon the dark memories and get down to the finish line. The Primary Sports Day was a fantastic event which everyone from the students, parents and staff enjoyed. It took place on the school field. Once the races began, the air was filled with cheering and full of encouragement for the young students. Pupils of Pre-school to year 6 competed in events including sprints, sack races, obstacle races, hurdles, water balloon throw and three legged race. A fun race involving the a sprint race between the parents added to the enjoyment. The red team won overall but the main element of the events were sportsmanship, attitude, commitment and enjoyment. All students gave their all and as a department and school we were all very proud of them.

SPORT REPORTS Mr Mark Kelly Director of Sport
T
his year has been a breakthrough year for the PE department. Once I came into the role I realised it was a school that had potential to create something special in terms of sport and I’m extremely pleased to say we have made history over and over again throughout the year. In January we identified that the school didn’t have any sports teams. We quickly rectified this with hard work, organization and huge effort, creating 20 teams in the first month. Since then we have gone on to have over 30 sports teams. We were quickly accepted into the Kuala Lumpur Sports League competing in sports such as Basketball and Football against schools such as Taylor’s Kuala Lumpur and Mutiara International Schools. Students, staff and parents all adapted to this tremendously, creating an electrifying atmosphere at home games and supporting the team from afar during away fixtures. All of our students turned up for training with a great attitude, matched only by their sportsmanship during matches and gave it their all.
SCHOOL SPORTS
Our Football boys under 11 team, led by Mr Firdaus, went on to win our first trophy, finishing as unbeaten champions of their KL Sports League! An incredible effort which was watched by other students, staff and parents cheering them on in their season-defining last match, beating our sister school from Kuala Lumpur 4-0. Another trophy we collected was at a 3on3 Basketball mixed under 13 tournament which we were invited to by Nexus International School, who we have formed a great relationship with. As well as all the swimming achievements obtained during our Swimming programme, we have acquired our first ever swim team all the way through from under 9
24
– 16. During the Kuala Lumpur Sports League (KLSL) tournament held in May at Beaconhouse Newlands International School we achieved second place out of 5 schools. Not bad for our first ever tournament! There were many of our students pocketing gold, silver or bronze medal with great swimming times. Just after this we hosted the first swimming tournament in our history, against Epsom College. The event went so smoothly that Epsom have asked to come back in term 3 for a repeat of the day. We are looking forward to achieving even more success in swimming for Taylors International School of Puchong in the months and years to come. As well as the exhilarating league matches we have experienced this year, we have struck up an excellent relationship with Epsom College. We have played numerous fixtures against them in Basketball, Football and Swimming across a range of age groups from under 9 up to under 18. These matches and been enjoyable and contested in a spirited and entertaining manner. We are constantly striving to be the best we can possibly be at Taylor’s and this was epitomized when, after much hard work and dedication from my excellent team, our application was accepted to join the Kuala Lumpur International School Sports (KLISS) organization of leagues that begins in term 3. This was a monumental moment for the school and we cannot wait to compete against established international schools such as Nexus, Tenby and British International School. There are not many more established and important league organisations to join in Malaysia and we are honoured to be competing in this league. We will go out to win, but more importantly to enjoy ourselves, work as a team and push our talented students to reach their sporting potential.
SPORTS DAY
O
ur Secondary Sports Day 2017 was held at the Panasonic Stadium in Shah Alam. It was a cheerful and an energetic started with an aerobic performance led by the teachers as a warm up to engage the students. The events ran smoothly, about 5 hours for morning session and continuing after lunch break. All the events successfully done supported by all the secondary teachers. The teachers and students really enjoyed the day and enjoyed supporting the houses athletes. A huge thank you to everyone who has made our Sports Day a great success. It is a wonderful day to all Taylor’s Puchong staff and students. Let’s make full use of this day and explore new exciting things for the next year Sports Day. Well done everybody.

We excelled, competing against 15 government schools. As a coach, I always remind my athletes, it’s not whether you get knocked down, it’s whether you get back up that really counts. There was nothing as exciting as seeing TISPC comeback to win races after defeats last year. The athletes displayed tenacious spirit and sheer will to overcome these challenges. Team spirit reigned and when a team member got injured, the athletes refused to give up. NETBALL T
his has been a significant year for Taylor’s Puchong sport and a fantastic one for our Netball squad. We could not be prouder to work with this group of young ladies and their achievements throughout the year have been impressive. The year started with excitement, a group of students keen to improve their netball and compete against other schools however, as a team, we had very little experience of the game. Some of our first matches against Epsom college were a great opportunity to hone these skills and develop a sense of teamwork and camaraderie. As the year has progressed, the team has gone from strength to strength and grown in numbers and talent. Training has enabled players to focus on their basic skills and find their positions of preference around the court. Through term 2, an A and a B squad began to evolve which meant we could further develop our game play through set plays and build communication between key players on the court. From here the netball really began to flow and the hard work began to pay off with hard fought victories over local rivals Rafflesia and Taylor’s International School Kuala Lumpur.
SCHOOL SPORTS
With much of term 3 still ahead of us, we have the KL sports league Over 15’s tournament to prepare for as well as some additional matches. Two weeks into the league and all teams have won all their matches. The A’s took apart both HELP International school and Fairview International school with dominant wins. The
B’s were incredibly strong against the same Fairview team and claimed an important victory to start their league campaign. The league will continue to prove a fantastic challenge as we will play some older and more experienced teams in the future. Ably captained by LeAnn and Rebecca, we feel confident that the teams will be exceptionally proud of their achievements. The season would not have been possible without the

tireless work of these two ladies and the support of Momoka and Yen as vice-captains. It is rare to meet such enthusiasm, dedication and organisational skills in young people who have blossomed as leaders in every way. We would like to thank each and every member of the squad for their tireless commitment and their infectious enthusiasm. It has been our genuine pleasure to coach and lead such an exceptional group and to witness their progress and development. Working with this group of young ladies has been one of the highlights of Ms Vallance’s teaching careers. Primary swimming
P
rimary swimming has had a complete overhaul this year of its systematic workings. We have brought in swimming awards for the students which have 3 or 4 tasks to aim to complete on each award. Once one award has been completed, they will then move on to the next award. The students have benefitted from excellent teaching from our full time primary swim teacher Mr Azharul as well as other staff from the PE department helping out with different lessons. The initial assessment which takes place in the first couple of lessons aids the teachers to see what level/award the children are currently swimming at, with the aim being to progress them to the next award or even further. This has proved to be a great motivation for students of primary school as they strive to meet the requirements stated to earn the next swim award available.
Secondary swimming/ Swimming sports teams
S
wimming has been a huge success this year. There are now two full time swimming teachers guiding the swimming classes for the first time and students are progressing at an excellent rate through their classes. All students are taught about health and safety in and out of the water round the poolside as this is a critical area of knowledge to gain.
For these assessments each student will be asked to demonstrate three swimming strokes (front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke) and will be marked on their technique and confidence in the water. In advance group, students attempt to increase their endurance levels, develop their stroke correction and study new strokes and techniques. For the beginners, they learn from the basic of stroke foundation, front crawl and backstroke, as well as increasing their confidence in the water. Starting this year in term 3, swimming P.E classes have been split into 3 different topics, which are core swimming, personal survival, and Flippa Ball. Personal survival classes will be held for the first time in term 3 this year which will be an introduction to the IGCSE personal survival with the aim of getting students prepared for this should they choose IGCSE PE as an option. Specific examples for our personal survival programme include water treading, water sculling and using a flotation aid tool. We introduced Flippa Ball in term 2 which we were extremely excited about. It is an adaptation of water polo designed to simplify the sport for younger competitors and the results have been astounding. The students are able to improve their teamwork, compete in a sportsmanlike manner and increase their communication levels. I’m pleased to say this will continue into term 3 as the students have taken to it excellently with results so great that we are looking to create our own water polo team next year.
For core swimming, they will be split into two groups at the start of each term through initial thorough assessments.

n this year, the students learnt some of the basic tactics for offensive attack. It includes controlling and attacking the middle field and sacrificing the “soldiers” pieces as a mean of tactical movement instead of positional advantages. Other than that, rules and regulation of an actual Chinese Chess competition had been illustrated to the students. Later on, they were given the chance to compete with their fellow classmates and the result was recorded on a scoring board. The competition is still ongoing and students are showing huge interest in getting to the top of the board. In the coming sections, students will be learning the ways of ending a game by using a defensive approach when there are fewer pieces on the board.
INTERACT 2017 marks the establishment of the Interact Club in Taylor’s International School Puchong with 55 members keen to solve real problems in the community as well as providing a platform for the students to meet and socialise with other interactors. The first event we had as a club was a training session by the Rotary Club of Puchong Centennial on the 28th March 2017, who is our sponsor club. The interactors were able to learn the ideals and objectives of the Interact club and what it means to be an interactor. After this official beginning, we began a new campaign race for a new board of directors to be elected on 22nd May 2017. After some discussion our current Interact President, Cassandra Roch, was elected due to her ideas and passion. As the other roles were slowly elected and decided the board then began planning events with all the other interactors to demonstrate helpfulness and respect for others and above all personifying the motto ‘Service above Self’.
We also had the chance to attend the Interact International Understanding Day at TISKL on Saturday 20th May. The event was organised by the Interact Club at TISKL and was an excellent opportunity for our Interactors to see the kind of activities that they can run here. Among all the activities we have planned, the most exciting event was the bake sale held on 13th July 2017. On that day, everyone brought home-made cookies, desserts and tidbits to be sold to our fellow students, teachers and parents. Younger members were so cheery and smiling as they sold their home baked goods to their friends. Our board of directors, with the guidance of teacher advisors, help make sure the event was a big success. Everyone had fun selling baked goods and learning the importance of entrepreneurship. The event ended with smiling faces and the feeling of accomplishment and pride. Proceeds from the bake sale will go to charity and part of it will be used for our next ambitious project.
SECONDARY SCHOOL
Everyone loved the activities we took part in this year, and as a club we are all looking forward to next year. We encourage secondary students to join Interact Club next year and make a difference to society.

COUNSELLOR Hi! I am your friendly school counsellor. I started as TIS counsellor in April 2016, juggling between TISPC and TISKL.
COUNSELLOR
As of February 2017, I have been in TISPC full time. I am glad to be of support to all the students in our school in relation to their holistic well-being and development. Students are welcomed to drop in or make an appointment if they need help and someone to talk to. Students may also be referred by teachers and parents. Transition is a programme where I meet the new students from Year 5-10 coming into TISPC. It is held at the beginning of every term. The programme aims to help students understand feelings and challenges evoked by the changes they face when changing schools or moving to a new location, place or country. We also discuss how to attend to these feelings and challenges.

DIVERSITY / AUTISM WEEK D
uring the week beginning 27th March students and staff took part in a range of activities to celebrate our diverse community. Topics such as culture, likes and dislikes, stereotypes and prejudices were covered, with students creating artwork to show their unique personalities. On Wednesday 29th March the whole school supported World Autism Day by wearing blue clothes and bringing in donations for a local autism charity. There were assemblies and class discussions around autism, including a talk by Mohd Adli bin Yahya from the local charity Autism Cafe Project, who provide life skills and workplace training to young adults with autism in Puchong, and representatives from the national charity Wacana Autism. The secondary school were also lucky enough to watch some of our very talented students perform a selection of songs they had been working on in the assembly. During the day students and staff each made bookmarks and posters to show support for people with autism, and everyone was encouraged to put a colourful handprint on a giant canvas to show how diverse our community is.

GUIDANCE AND SUPPORT
GUIDANCE AND SUPPORT T
his is the first year that TISPC has had a Curriculum Support Department, but as our school community grows it is more important than ever that our staff are supported in meeting the individual needs of our students. It has been fantastic to see the positive reactions of both students, staff, and parents, to the changes and support put into place over the last few terms. It really does take a village to raise a child, so having everyone on board with the idea of inclusion has been essential. It has been a pleasure getting to know the students at TISPC this year, and discovering their unique personalities and skills. As I’m sure you are aware, we have many very talented students at TISPC, including some Left to right: Ms Evelyn Wong Pui Ling, Ms Emily Vallance and who have additional needs. I
sincerely hope that all members of our school community have enjoyed the academic year 2018. I only joined Taylor’s International School Puchong in term 3 so for some of this reflection on the year that has been, I had to listen to parents, teachers and students to learn about all the things that happened before my arrival. Thank you for your stories, I hope I have not left anything important out that should have been included! On a personal note, this seems to be an appropriate platform for me to express my gratitude for the warm welcome I have received at the beginning of my tenure here at TISPC. I have truly enjoyed my first term. This was largely due to the many positive conversations with parents, staff and students and all the help and support given to me as I was settling in to my new environment. Schools are, and should be, a place of constant change and improvement. In this respect TISPC is no different so this year has seen changes across the Primary school in a number of areas as we continue to challenge ourselves to be the very best. This has included the inevitable movement in staff, reviewing how we communicate with parents and continuing to develop the curriculum and it’s delivery. Staffing has been one area that has seen some change this year in terms of both leadership and teaching staff. We have said farewell to both Ms Rachael (Assistant Head - Head of EY) and Ms Kerry (Year 3 and 4 Year Leader) who both made a significant impact on the school during their time here. With this change of leadership, also came the arrival of Ms Vicki, Ms Angela, Ms Diane and Ms Jacqui who have all joined the Primary leadership team as Year Leaders. During this year we have also looked at the many ways we can connect more with parents and give them a better ‘window into the classroom.’ The answer came in the form of Parent Shared Learning sessions and these took place from EY to Year 6. The children have shared Literacy, Maths and Topic learning across each term and parents have had the opportunity to come and understand what happens every day first hand from their own children. This has been extremely successful with a lot of positive feedback from those parents who have attended. We will continue to develop this concept further into 2018 and look forward to seeing many more parents attend these learning sessions. Leadership and teaching staff have been working closely together to continue to develop the curriculum to meet the many needs of our diverse range of students. This year has seen the successful implementation of our ESL Programme (English as a Second Language) which supports around 96 students across all of Primary. This is for those students whose first language is not English and the extra support they receive in ESL helps them to better access the curriculum. We have also had Ms Rosie Greaves join TISPC as Head of Curriculum Support and she has implemented a number of programmes and support structures across Primary that is having a significant impact on our most vulnerable learners. Across mainstream curriculum, all teams have been continuing to develop the UK Curriculum so that it best meets the holistic and cultural needs of all students. The role of a Primary teacher is widely recognized as being far more diverse than merely imparting knowledge to their students. We have been developing a 21st Century learning approach to the classroom which involves staff completing ongoing CPD across a range of key
teaching and learning areas. All teachers, leadership and teaching assistants participate in a range of weekly sessions aimed at providing the best quality learning experiences for our children. On top of this responsibility, teachers are asked to volunteer for events such as Open Days on Saturdays and we always have more volunteers than spaces needing to be filled. This year staff also participated in Team Building activities aimed to continue to develop positive peer relationships and ongoing support for our colleagues. TISPC values a holistic approach not only to the teaching and learning for our children, but to develop this in our teachers to enable them to be the best they can be for our students. The primary team has been kept very busy with a range of activities and events this year including assemblies, sports days and educational excursions. This year saw a change in the KS1/Reception Sports Day based on feedback from parents after last years event. This included giving children the opportunity to participate in six events across a range of sporting disciplines. KS2 also modified their sports day to allow parents more opportunity to go out onto the field and watch the events from a closer perspective. The feedback from these changes was overwhelmingly positive and we will continue to look at ways of developing Sports Days again for next year. Class trips are always a popular part of any year with the students. It is a great opportunity to make real life connections between the learning in the classroom and the wider world. Across all of Primary, there have been many opportunities for the students to escape the classroom for the day and get a chance to experience their learning in a community setting. This has included everything from the Nursery visit to ‘Farm In The City’ to the upper KS2 Residential overnight camping trips. We will continue to find the very best real world experiences for our students as we make learning in the classroom come alive. Assemblies have been another key part of our every day business that allows children to develop their presentation skills and build confidence in public speaking and performing. Key cultural events have seen more opportunity for students to present during Hari Raya and Deepavali with special school assemblies taking place at these times. Class assemblies continue to prove popular with our families as an opportunity to share in their children’s learning and see them perform in front of a larger audience. We will continue to develop these and look at how they can be used to create stronger home-school partnerships. With so many great things already taking place, there is still always room to introduce new initiatives and develop our Primary school further. We have begun with a roll out of the new parent communication tool ‘REMIND’ which, after a successful trial period, has now been introduced across all of Primary. The feedback from parents has been nothing but positive and we will continue to develop its use as a communication tool as well as allowing us to share student successes instantly with parents. We are already planning for projects and events for the year 2018 which promises to be an exciting and prosperous year for our school . I am very much looking forward to the next year and I hope you do to! Marco Damhuis Head of Primary

KEY STAGE 1 Ms Mary Rivers Assistant Head: Key Stage 1
T
his year has seen a lot of changes across EY and KS1 – both in terms of staff but also with the enrolment of many new children to our school. As a growing school, this is part of the our ongoing development and with each new staff member, comes a wealth of new knowledge, experience and skills to add to the great things already taking place. Unfortunately, this year we have also said goodbye to some staff who have moved on to achieve different goals. We were all very sad to say farewell to Ms Rachael as the Head of EY at the end of Term 2 and I know those parents who had children in this area of the school will attest to the untiring efforts she took to make EY a dynamic and exciting place of learning. With her departure came a realignment of leadership roles with my position taking on the additional responsibility of Head of EY which aligns us with the KL campus leadership structure. We have also followed the KL lead by including Year Leaders and now have Ms Vicki as Year 1 and 2 Year Leader, who joined us in Term 2, and Ms Angela as EY Year Leader who came on board at the start of Term 3. The additional leadership support will allow us to continue to raise academic standards and support our staff as the school continues to grow. The Early Years team of both Nursery and Reception classes have continued to develop their learning around the EY framework and have been focusing on key areas such as phonics, play-based learning and using the wider environment to support student achievement. A holistic approach to the curriculum is always a focus with the inclusion of the arts and many hands on activities forming a large part of the learning. The two Nursery classes work closely together and continue to develop their classroom spaces to be interactive and encourage the children to experiment, explore, discuss and question. This year the children have been on two trips to also deepen their understanding of the topics taught in class and these are always a highlight of the year for many children. The introduction of Shared Learning sessions across Primary has seen Nursery parents able to work alongside their children to gain a deeper understanding of why play is so important at this age and also that it is done with a learning framework to develop many of the basic fine and gross motor skills needed for future learning. The Reception team have also continued the solid development of introductory curriculum with a focus on phonics and playbased learning as in Nursery. However, these is a gradual shift to developing basic reading, writing and mathematical skills to lay solid foundations for the years to come. The children in reception have also attended two trips related to their learning as well as parent participation in the Shared Learning sessions. Reception children also attended our Reception and KS1 Sports Day earlier in the year. This was revamped from last year and involved a rotation of 6 activities that all students participated in. This was a most successful event enjoyed by all. Development of the break out areas is ongoing with more activities designed to challenge and build a range of skills being put in place. Both inside and outside environments continue to be enhanced to provide the best learning experiences for the children and proving engaging for the students.
Key Stage 1 has continued to develop a range of curriculum areas as staff work towards implementing change to literacy and maths planning which have been a significant focus for us this year. With the introduction of Running Record reading assessments, we have been able to develop our literacy programme with more focus on Guided Reading as well as shared reading and writing activities. Further to this, the staff have been working very hard to develop and teach using a new maths plan that has allowed us to bring more ‘hands on’ equipment and activities into the maths programme. Children in KS1 need to solidify new learning by connecting with it in as many kinistethic ways as possible and this has been a focus for us. Parents have been able to engage with both of these new initiatives through our Shared Learning sessions. Many parents commented on how fun and engaging learning is today and the benefits they can see for their children. With our Year 1 and 2 Year Leader Ms Vicki joining us in Term 2, we have been able to make significant progress in terms of implementing these new programmes and are seeing the results of this hard work in the achievement of the students. Year 1 have had a very productive year and we have been delighted to welcome new teachers to our team. Ms Jnana (Assistant Year Leader) and Ms Rekhkah have continued with their teaching roles and we have been joined by Ms Venmalar, Ms Jazmin and Ms Mayuri (who replaced Ms Shelly at the completion of her temporary contract). This enthusiastic and passionate team have been working tirelessly to develop new skills and implement new practices to provide the best opportunities for the students. Class trips, Sports Day, Shared Learning, Book Week, Eco Week and class assemblies have all made the year an exciting, engaging and productive one for the students. Much of the same structure has been implemented and taught in the Year 2 team as well. However, they have also worked very hard to use an Inquiry based approach to their topic work. This has seen the completion of some excellent projects that have been on display in the break out area. Many parents have commented on how engaged the children have been by this work and that the children come home and excitedly talk about their learning. Of particular interest was the Nasa Training Station and the children were very proud of their achievements and their learning. This year we have also had a stronger focus on developing Critical Thinking skills with a range of opportunities for the students to work together and solve problems or discuss ideas. Many of these activities have also been presented on the display boards outside of the classrooms and it is quite fascinating to see the depth and complexity of their thinking when working on these problems. This year sees the end of my second year at Taylor’s and I feel a great sense of satisfaction at the achievements of both staff and students over this time. The professional development of the teachers, and their commitment to improving their practice, has had a significant impact on teaching and learning and the outcomes for the students. I wish all staff and students the best of luck for next year and beyond.

years of not doing any sport, I enjoyed playing two netball matches on Teacher’s Day, and was fortunate to be on the winning team! I feel proud to say that introducing Parent Shared Learning Sessions to the primary school was a positive move towards engaging parents in the learning, and these were hugely successful for students, teachers and parents. Now that Mr Marco has settled into TISPC and Malaysia, I look forward to more collaboration, not just in sport and arts, but also in the teaching and learning across the schools. I would like to thank the rest of the leadership team who gave me fantastic support through the two terms of my temporary post. I wish TISPC families a safe and happy holiday! T
he Year 1 team have had a very busy and productive year. We have welcomed Ms Mayuri to our team and many fresh new faces in the classroom as new students have joined us over the course of the year. Many parents have been able to come into the Break Out area and see our lovely displays, artwork and examples or student work including writing and maths. We have continued to develop our programmes with new maths and literacy initiatives being put into place to extend the learning opportunities for our children. As always, we have maintained an ‘holistic’ approach to our teaching and learning, guiding the children to develop their Core Values with a particular focus on building resilience and independence. With the inclusion of our Parent ‘Shared Learning’ sessions, we have been able to provide our families with a first hand view of teaching and learning in Year One. Term One saw a focus on Maths and parents were able to work alongside their children to engage in and play with a variety of maths games. There was an overwhelmingly positive response from those parents able to attend, many of them giving us feedback about how much fun learning is in Year 1 and how they wished school had been the same for them. We also had parents who were keen to play some of these games with their children at home to continue to support their learning. With Book Week and Eco Week combined in Term 2, the children completed a range of exciting activities with the Shared Learning afternoon combining these two great events to make terrariums based on a story. The children were able to choose the one that interested them the most and worked with a buddy and their parents to create a terrarium that told a scene from the story. This was also a popular activity that
combined design and technology, literacy and science in an engaging and hands on way. Parents who joined us for this session enjoyed the activity as much as their children and many expressed an interest in making one at home. Term 3 also included a Shared Learning session for parents, this time with a greater focus on the other areas of the curriculum, most particularly science. It is clear that the opportunity for parents to engage in their child’s learning at such a level has had a positive impact on the students learning and the home-school partnership. Class trips are always a popular activity with children but from an educational perspective, they give a ‘real life’ perspective to learning that takes place within the classroom. This opportunity to solidify class learning with experience is a significant part of the academic year. Year 1 have attended two trips that aligned with their topics in History, Geography and Science. Parents will have seen the paper umbrellas that children decorated and will have heard the stories about the visit to the cookie factory. Making candy floss (and eating it of course) was particularly popular. The final trip of the year involved an educational exploration through the Botanical Gardens to investigate plants and explore the ecosystem first hand. As another year comes to a close, it is always a pleasure to see both the personal and academic growth of all the children as they move on to Year 2. The transition from Early Years to Key Stage One is often a big step for many children and they have all undertaken this with persistence and their developing independence has become more evident as the year progressed. We look forward to seeing these skills continue to grow and the children thrive in Year 2 next year.

oving into our 3rd Year we have been lucky enough to welcome some excellent staff to Key Stage 2. In Year 3, Ms. Alleyce joined us and has taken on the role of Assistant Year Leader to Ms. Jacqui. In Year 4, Ms. Shusan, Ms. Felicia and Ms. Grace have joined the team and we have welcomed their excellent new ideas. In Year 5, Ms. Mona has joined us and Ms. Diane has jetted in from Korea. Ms. Rosie has joined as Head of Learning Support and she has been working with children who have different learning needs, helping them get the most out of their school life. I have been impressed with how well they have all adapted to living in Puchong and am looking forward to working with them next year to drive the department forward.
PRIMARY SCHOOL
KS2 have participated in some fantastic trips in 2017 and I try my best to join as many of them as I can. I particularly enjoyed the end of Year overnight camps this year. The children in Year 4, 5 & 6 got to experience great outdoor learning centering on the environment in Malaysia. Year 4 and Year 6 really enjoyed their River Nature Walks in Janda Baik as they got to see and experience aspects of this country that they wouldn’t usually get to enjoy. Year 5 were able to get in touch with nature by visiting Krau Wildlife Reserve and seeing so many wild animals in their natural habitat. It was great to see the expressions on the children face as they saw animals in real life that they had only seen on TV. We have been listening to parents and their desire to not only have more communication with the school but also direct communication with the class teacher. With this in mind, we have started with a trial using an app called REMIND which parents can download onto their smart phones. The app has allowed teachers to give messages and documents straight to parents phones quickly and efficiently. We have also been able to show you some of the great things that have been happening
72
in the classroom over the year. I have had a lot of parents tell me that they have really enjoyed seeing photographs of the children doing science experiments and seeing what happens in their English lessons. REMIND has also helped the parent to have direct messaging with the teacher about any concerns they may have. We have found that the issues can be sorted out much quicker and easier which is to the benefit of the children. We have had some great events this year in KS2. I particularly enjoyed the Book Week again this year and was pleased that we managed to get such an accomplished author (Dreadlock Alien) to visit the school and run a workshop with the older children. The costumes the children came in were fantastic again this year and for that we thank the parents. One of the best things about working in TIS Puchong is the celebrating of the three main cultures in Malaysia and I am particularly pleased that we get strong support from all parents for Chinese New Year, Hari Raya and Deepavali. These events are always a big celebration in our school and parent support with the help of performances, costumes and food was very much appreciated. Thank you to all the parents and children once again for an excellent year and I look forward to the future.
here has been an enormous amount of development take place this year in the Primary English as a Second Language department. We have been fortunate enough to obtain a room in the EY part of the school and have three experienced, full time teaching staff (Ms Serena, Ms Munira and Ms Raghini) working with approximately 96 Primary students this year. Each term students with identified ESL learning needs are assessed both formally and informally and those needing additional support have been provided with it through a range of engaging activities and learning opportunities. We have four key goals in ESL: 1. To raise English Language ability (both oral and written) 2. To develop positive peer relationships 3. To develop confidence 4. To foster a love of learning This is the first year in which the Primary ESL department has been in full operation and the children are very excited to attend their special classes. They see ESL as a fun place to learn and attend their daily lessons with much enthusiasm. We have allocated a three tier system to ESL in Primary and this is based on need. The first level of instruction is for those students who require support with their speaking and listening in English. The goal is to provide them with enough English language to follow teacher instructions and access the curriculum alongside their peers in the classroom. The children attend their ESL class daily for half an hour and the ratio is no more than one teacher
to four students. Once children have a solid foundation of English language acquisition, they can move to a literacy support group. These lessons are also held in the ESL classroom and continue to build oral language skills, but have a stronger focus on reading and writing. These groups have a ratio of no more than one teacher to six students. By keeping these groups very small, we aim to provide a focused, intense support system to have the highest impact on language achievement. Our final level of support is what we term ‘in-class’ and as the name indicates, this involves one of our ESL teachers working alongside students within their own classroom and with their peers. The ESL teacher works with the identified student and 1 or 2 of their classmates (for the social interaction and to reduce any anxiety about being ‘different’) to complete a task that the teacher has set for all students in the room. This extra support provides a final boost and to prepare them for the time when they will no longer require additional help. Students are assessed regularly to monitor progress and parents receive a written progress report every term. This year has been hugely successful and we are now receiving requests from parents to enrol their child in our ESL programme – what a great vote of confidence for the ESL team and what we offer our students. Next year will see this programme continue to be developed as we work towards providing the very best support structures we can to help our students learning English for the first time. It has been amazing to be able to share in the range of celebrations that have taken place in the year and the children’s commitment and participation. Other exciting experiences that have been a pleasure being a part of are the Parent Teacher Conferences and Shared Learning sessions which are invaluable for strengthening Home School partnerships. We began Term 1 with a focus continuing the development of the school’s core values through lessons about the Taylor’s RECIPE. Our focus in History was Ancient Greece. We looked at what impact Ancient Greece had on the world and what is still used today. We linked Science and Geography together through our topics on Landscapes and How does the garden grow?
PRIMARY SCHOOL
In Term 2 we focused on strengthening our guided reading program. We looked at Settlements and Transport in Geography and making links to our prior knowledge from term one’s Geography’s topics. We had a wonderful trip based around our topic on transport by going on the ERL, a River Cruise, and to the Airport. In Term 3 the big focus in History and Geography was on Malaysia. We learnt all about the Country, States, Prime Ministers and what makes Malaysia special. The children enjoyed sharing their knowledge about different aspects of Malaysia. The trip to the National Museum and Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Memorial was a lot of fun and an excellent way to introduce the History topic. This term we have also had a lot of hands-on learning using equipment.

2017 in Year 4, there has been fantastic trips During and learning that has taken place. Since I started in February, I have had the privilege of taking part in the learning journey with the students. As in Year 3, it has been a pleasure being a part of Parent Teacher conferences and Shared Learning Sessions.
In Term 1, the students learnt about Britain in the Stone Age and what impact it had on the lives of people who lived in that time. Students also experienced making their own fruit stew, which was a popular food eaten by the people in the Stone age. Besides that, one of the most interesting activities were when the students made their own kites for a Design & Technology lesson. During Term 2, the students learnt how the AngloSaxons lived and what makes a settlement thrive and become sustainable. In science the students learnt about electricity and had a lot of fun creating electrical circuits. The students enjoyed the school trip to the Clay factory, Sake Sushi and the fire station. In Term 3 the students have been learning about Malaysia through History and Geography. The History topic was very topical and followed the SEA games. While in Geography the students have studied and presented about the different States and what makes Malaysia special. The students also learnt about the different animal conservation places in Malaysia and what they can do to make a difference in protecting endangered species. The overnight trip to Radiant retreat was a lot of fun.

T
his year has been full of exciting learning events and I am delighted to belong to such a wonderful team, which I joined in April. Below are some snapshots of learning during 2017 Mind-mapping is a popular and efficient way of sharing knowledge and ideas about any topic, and Year 5 students came up with some wonderful results. This organization tool helped students to create a well structured information text. ‘My Teacher, My Inspiration’ - was the title for a series of performance poems written by Year 5 students. Ms Hindu introduced each performer and Mr David and Mr Munir judged the top three recitations during a mini event in the school auditorium. Some of the content of the poems was extremely witty, as each student read out their dedication to their class teacher or rhymed about teachers in general. Up and Away! - During a Science and Technology, Year 5 designed and created objects that could fly, float or soar. The objectives were to test air resistance and gravity and the students tested their robocopters and parachutes in the atrium area.
PRIMARY SCHOOL
Anglo Saxons - During June, Year 5 students learnt about settlers and discovered the Anglo Saxons who settled in Britain from 410 - 1066. During their History learning sessions, the students made helmets and shields, and created villages during Art, History and Design Technology sessions.
76
Year 5 students have been using the Talk4Writing programme, they shared the Internalising, Innovation and Invention activities they have been using to create ideas ready compose pieces of writing. The biggest challenge for all was composing a poem on a given theme, using rhyming couplets. Malaysia Day - Towards the end of the year Year 5 and 6s did some great choral speaking and taught us all about the history of Malaysia. Great job, Key Stage 2! Guided Reading - Every morning Year 6 begin the day with a reading session, a lovely way to start the day, and it’s very satisfying to see the students enjoy this important developmental activity. The teacher focus is with a different group to develop their reading and comprehension skills. Shared Learning Maths and English Session - During March there were ‘Shared Learning Sessions’ in the Primary school, for parents and carers, students shared their learning by completing hands-on activities. Hands on Eating? - What better way to learn how to create an instructional piece of writing than to have a practical activity that involves eating! Year 6 students made mouth watering sandwiches with their appetizing ingredients.
PRIMARY SCHOOL
Book Week - with Dreadlock Alien (aka Richard Grant) bringing the best poetry skills out of year 6 students. His call and response introduction got the children thinking on their feet and moving - “I say high, you say _____ ,” “I say fast, you say ________.” Immediately eliciting rhyme and rhythm, pattern and flow from all the students, he went on to provoke rhyming ideas about different topics. In Science, the Year 6 students continued their ‘ Electrifying’ unit study. They demonstrated their knowledge and skills when carrying out experiments. One experiment was to find out what would happen if you replaced a battery in an electrical circuit with a lemon! Kahoot Learning in ICT, students were able to connect learning through the use of coding, to all other subjects. Year 6 students felt engaged and excited when using this new technology.

HEAD OF
SECONDARY Mr Michael Moreton Head of Secondary
I
t has been another excellent year for the Secondary School at TISPC as we continue to build on the strong foundations laid from the first two years. When starting any new school, the foundations are essential to ensuring the building work that continues is robust and follows the blueprint that was identified. This year the growth of the Secondary School with its expansion of the first Year 11 has established the school with a clear identity for achievement through excellence.
in our community. This in turn directs our focus on the learning environment bringing even more opportunities for student voices and decision making in all aspects of the school. Even more so for learners independently where we encourage individual entrepreneurship and creativity and are growing in identifying opportunities where this is possible and therefore individuals who have already identified themselves as strong leaders of tomorrow.
Attainment is a clear indicator of sound teaching practices and clear guiding and support systems that enable learners to achieve their potential. The May and June IGCSE examination series, the very first IGCSE exams for TISPC, provided the Secondary School with the opportunity to show the quality of the teaching and learning and the learning potential of the students within the Secondary School. We were delighted with the results from that series with over 99% of the exam results between A* to C. We are very proud of all our Year 11 learners and will be looking forward to seeing more of their potential achievement in the near future.
In our first year, I identified the year to be a year of firsts. As new schools develop, the firsts continue each year, but to a smaller extent each time. The landmark for our first Year 11’s this year has been set. We are very proud of their achievements and for the learners and leaders they will continue to be and aspire to be. In the coming years ahead, we are looking forward to sharing those experiences and identifying them for the role models they have become.
I believe the strength of the Secondary section of TISPC this year has been the recognition of how we have excelled in three main areas of Performing Arts, Sporting Achievement and Academic Attainment. Also in doing so, we have also proven how the efficient management and structure of the Secondary section has seen how these three areas have worked in balance. Learners have had the opportunity to compete against themselves and other teams in sporting competitions, they have had the opportunity to show their individual creativity in performing on stage and they have proven that their academic potential is being recognised. In addition, it is clear that the balance of opportunity has been created to allow students with one or more strengths across these areas to have participated by making wise choices and selecting the right pathway and balance for their individual learning journey.
It has again been a privilege to share this year with all learners at TISPC and I look forward to hearing, seeing and joining in with them in the continuing learning journey next year. Michael Moreton Head of Secondary
This year has seen another year of growth in student and staff numbers, therefore extending the use of resources and facilities which ultimately extends the learning experiences. Our vision continues to be “to create leaders”

KEY STAGE 3&4 Ms Emily Vallance Assistant Head: Key Stage 3 & 4
I
t has been another eventful and exciting year in both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 with many new staff and students joining us at the start of the academic year bringing new dimensions to our diverse community. This year has seen our first cohort of Year 11 students complete their studies at TISPC culminating in their IGCSE examinations in October and November of this Year and their subsequent graduation from school. This group of students have had a significant impact on the school throughout their journey with us, being instrumental in establishing many of our traditions and practices such as organising our first Taylor’s got Talent, running our first Student Council, organising our first Teacher’s Day celebrations and establishing our Eco Committee. These contributions will have a lasting impact throughout our school and, as we wish our trail blazers all the best for their futures, we hope to have left a similar mark on their lives. This year has seen the introduction of our Year Leaders throughout the Secondary School. These staff have worked tirelessly with the young people in each year group to support and guide them through the year. They have allowed for a more personal and directed approach to pastoral care and it is great that they will be following their students through into next academic year so they can continue this care and support. As part of this role, they have redesigned and invigorated the PSHE programme to better meet the needs of the students. Whether learning about gender bias, cyber safety, democracy, study skills or body image and media pressure, the students have engaged in discussions and broadened their horizons to help the development of stronger core values. We have been fortunate to welcome some fantastic guest speakers to the school this year as part of specialized weeks that have been organised. A highlight was the visiting poet “Dreadlock Alien” who ran workshops during Book Week exposing students to a wonderful variety of language and expression. Our inaugural Diversity Week celebrated Autism Awareness Day through the “Light it up blue” campaign and welcomed guests to help us to better understand the challenges faced by people who suffer from Autism Spectrum Disorder. During this week we took time to acknowledge our differences, our strengths and the qualities that make us unique and it was wonderful to see the Secondary teaching floors covered in coloured hands to celebrate this. We have also arranged workshops with guest speakers to develop our Sex Education programme within the school and are looking to further develop this in the coming years. It will be wonderful to end the year with our extensive Residential Trips Programme where students will have the
opportunity to work towards obtaining their Radiant Awards and Bronze, Silver or Gold level. The Radiant camps programme provides essential opportunities to challenge students and to push them out of their comfort zone both physically and mentally. The students will have opportunities to work together in different teams and to take a leadership role in different outdoor activities whilst having lots of fun. Linked alongside this is an understanding of the basic principles of survival, self-sufficiency, independence, community service and nature so students can develop an appreciation for the natural beauty of the country they call home. For many, these trips will be the highlight of their year and something they will remember for many years to come. As well as academic success, school life is about developing qualities and competencies that will enable students to engage in the world beyond the structured environment of school. As such, it has been wonderful to see so many of our talented students participating in extracurricular activities both inside and outside of school. Our first ever school musical was a highlight of the year, a celebration of teamwork, talent and dedication of students and staff. In addition to this, the sports department have become increasingly active, participating in numerous matches and tournaments including KLISS and KLSL. With over 250 students involved in sports from across the Secondary School and many successes in a wide range of sports, we can look forward to what the future holds for Puchong Lightning knowing that each individual will gain hugely from their participation in this programme. It has been a truly exciting time to be a part of our Secondary School community and I would actively encourage every student to involve themselves in different areas of school life and, if there is not something for them, why not be the trailblazer and organise it themselves. As I reflect on the year and all our achievements, I would like to thank our dedicated group of staff, particularly the Year Leaders and Form Tutors, who work tirelessly to support our students and invest time and effort in helping them to be the best they can be. As I move on from my time at TISPC to pastures new, it will be these individuals and our enthusiastic, inspiring and talented young people who I will miss. I have learnt so much from them and I will take these lessons with me as I move forward and use them to shape my own future as I hope our Year 11s will do. To each and every learner in our community “I hope your dreams take you to the corners of your smiles, to the highest of your hopes, to the windows of your opportunities, and to the most special places your heart has ever known.” Anonymous

SECONDARY SCHOOL Ms Pavithrah A/P Thirumoorthy - Year 7 Leader
T
erm 1 in Year 7 is always an incredibly exciting and nervous time for the students and staff. The transition from having a base and a home room teacher with whom the students spend most of their time to having to navigate yourself and your belongings around the whole school can be incredibly challenging. Some students relish the challenge and the new found independence whilst other struggle without a firm guiding hand to steer them every step of the way. It is always interesting reflecting back at the end of the year to see how far these students have come on this journey of independence as well as the work that still needs to be done. Throughout the year, different form groups have produced some wonderfully thoughtful and engaging assemblies to highlight the RECIPE of core values that underpins all that we do at TISPC. This was a great opportunity for students to showcase their talented as well as develop their leadership and teamwork skills. In addition to these, the classes produced some wonderful entries to the book week and Chinese New Year door decorating competitions with 7P being victorious in both. The form groups have gathered every day this year for their Character Building and this has served to build their knowledge and understanding of their own character traits as well as gain insight into the thoughts and feelings of others. Through Personal Social Health and Economic Education, the students have learnt more about building positive relationships and maintaining and restoring these relationships through restorative practices. They have also learnt more about the fundamental principles of democracy and how this applies to their life in Malaysia. As the year draws to a close we will be welcoming a guest speaker, Ms June Popek, as part of our PSHE programme. She will be discussing the physical and emotional changes that take place in the teenage years and answering students questions on this topic. It has been an excellent year for the students in Year 7 and I look forward to continuing to work closely with them next year as they move into Year 8.
Ms Kashturi Jessica A/P Supramaniam - Year 8 Leader
A
s another school year draws to a close, we reflect back on the year and all the wonderful learning experiences the pupils have had in Year 8. This year, we started with 155 students, mostly new students in Year 8 and being the biggest year group in the Secondary section. The students have achieved so much this year, becoming more inquisitive and independent learners. They are now comfortable and confident in their new surroundings, they’ve settled in their tutor groups, grown used to the different demands of their subjects and made new friends. This was all made possible by the Year 8 tutors who worked tirelessly and have been such important role models and mentors to their tutees throughout the year. Each pair of classes has also staged their own assemblies this year, reflecting on the values that the school embodies (RECIPE). These assemblies have been a real focus for student performance, a perfect venue for them to showcase their talent as we witnessed plenty of it. They have learnt to work collaboratively by stepping out of their comfort zone and performed confidently. To improve the learning opportunities, we have introduced new initiatives. One of the successful events was the Cyber Wellness campaign held among Year 8 students as part of their PSHE unit. To raise further awareness, a poster drawing competition was held during PSHE. You can read more of this on a separate report written by Jason Ng Yuen Jie from 8C. In term 3, students have learned about fair trade in PSHE. Soon after the year-end exams, they will be having a fair, promoting their own products. We are looking forward to this wonderful experience. To promote positive behavior, three students from each class were selected for the following awards; Best Team Player, Best Behavior and Best Leadership. They were given a certificate to acknowledge their achievement. We believe this will be an impact on the other students as they strive to gain these awards for themselves too. I would like to once again congratulate students who have contributed towards the school in all areas. You have made all of us proud. I wish you all the best for next year and if you are leaving, good luck for your future endeavours! Finally, a special thanks to the Year 8 team. You have been amazing to work with.

Ms Sharon Lee Yet Yin - Year 9 Leader
T
his year is an exciting year for year 9 in TISPC. Many events have taken place and a few will be highlighted as below: In February, whole year 9 form participated in the KS3 Chinese New Year Door Deco competition to brighten up the school and the First place was won by 9N form. Congratulations to 9N! Their team work and dedication despite the challenges of getting resources made it happen. Through the event, students learned to communicate and execute ideas to complete the task. It was a fun and great time for tutor and students. Another remarkable moment was the IGCSE Option day on 16th of June. We had successfully ran the event with about 70% parents turn up. The event started with year 10 mentor students in form classes and followed by the subject’s presentation in the auditorium. This year, the IGCSE Option selection evening took place together with Year 9 PTC. So parents could get as much info as they could to make the right decision together with their child.
SECONDARY SCHOOL
Not forgetting the recent workshop which was organized as part of the PSHE programmes to educate students about setting boundaries and making choices through Sex Education. On 24th August, 132 students attended the “No Apologies”-The Truth about Life, Love and Sex workshop which was run by Focus on the Family, Malaysia.

Ms Devaruby A/P Devaindran - Year 10 Leader
T
his year has proved to be such a pinnacle in an amazing time. The year boasted many positive changes for the Year 10s. They moved on with a great start as confident and articulated individuals who stepped into their new options choices to embrace continuous growth of the Secondary School at TISPC. Every class as well as each individual had the opportunity to contribute to each assembly presentation which was meticulously planned and prepared as a whole class team. We must say how proud we are to have young, charismatic achievers with sheer hard work and dedication. Well done, year 10s. We organised a workshop for Year 10 students to support them as they prepare for their IGCSE examinations in the coming year. The “Ace Your Exams” workshop by Elevate Education is a programme that was delivered to improve students performances and to set realistic progress goals in their academic well-being. This will help the students to discover how engaged they are in a certain subject area and what skills they valued. The students thoroughly enjoyed as they found the session beneficial in many ways. It has been a settled year for the Year 10 Students. It was pleasing to note that towards end of the term the academic staff were most impressed at the way the Year 10 students were organised and had thought about, and planned their future choices. It has also been good to see a large number of students involved in all kinds of extra-curricular activities from the playing and the coaching of sports through to music, dance and drama. The Year 10s are now moving on to a more rigorous and important time in their education as 2018 brings about more challenges.
Ms Emily Vallance - Year 11 Leader
T
his year has been a momentos year for TISPC seeing our first ever Year 11 cohort complete their IGCSE examinations and graduated from our school. The strong bonds of friendship formed over the last three years between this close groups of students have ensured support during this stressful time and the excellent learning relationships they have built with their teachers have allowed them to excel in their studies. Term 1 served to set the tone for the year with students embarking on Mock Examinations very early in the year to help them prepare for the May/ June Examination series. In addition, students were given the opportunity to visit Taylor’s College Subang and Taylor’s University Lakeside campus as part of the seamless transition programme. The students took part in a variety of workshops and presentations to introduce them to the different courses and areas of study they could select. This left them with much food for thought as they began to contemplate what might be next for them. The visit served to spark conversations and during PSHE the students continued to explore career opportunities, subject choices and programmes of interest to them. They also used this time to write personal statements for application and discuss interview techniques and strategies. The purpose of this year hit home for many in Term 2 when the first IGCSE examinations took place. The vast majority of students sat the Bahasa Malaysia examination whilst some selected to also complete Mandarin at a range of different levels. A calm descended over the year group during this time as students found a new level of focus and were determined to succeed. The results published in August were exceptional with a 99% A*-C grade and an outstanding number of students obtaining the A or A* grade. This term concluded with the mock examinations which provided students with an opportunity to reflect on their current progress and identify the important work that needed to be done in the coming months to ensure they achieve the best marks that they can. On a lighter note, Term 2 also saw many of our talented Year 11 students take on lead roles in Footloose, our first school musical. It was a highlight of the year for many and it was so refreshing
Now in Term 3 the students have had the opportunity to participate in the Elevate Education “Ace your Exams” workshop which served to reinforce the messages they have been hearing through the year with regards to preparing for examinations. The significance of completing past examination questions was the strongest message and this can be seen reflected in the Year 11 form rooms and break and lunchtime and also through the classrooms during their lessons. As the final examinations approached, the students had the opportunity to apply for study leave or take up the opportunity of a varied range of workshops and study opportunities provided by the school. The academic year will conclude with the Year 11 Graduation which will be a perfect opportunity to celebrate the successes and talents of our first graduating class. This unique group of students has continuously embraced the opportunities that the school has provided for them with enthusiasm and vigor, they have formed lifelong friendships that will continue to shape them as they move forward with their lives. It has been a pleasure to have cared for them over the last year and I would like to wish each and every individual the very best for their future; I would encourage them to embrace each and every learning opportunity that comes their way with the same positive attitude and enthusiasm that they have shown us.

STUDENT COUNCIL A
s the end of the year dawns upon us, we wistfully wave goodbye to the end of another chapter in our young lives. The student council has definitely been one of our greatest experiences. We weren’t just a council, we were a strong group of friends from different years with a passion to make TISPC a better place. We’ve managed to successfully plan events together, one of which being Teacher’s day. From auditioning the acts to writing speeches and rehearsing a show, we worked together to celebrate and thank our teachers for their hard work and dedication. It was fantastic to witness the final outcome and see everyone enjoying themselves as we played sport and laughed together. In addition to this significant event, we were honoured to be involved in interviewing many candidates willing to fill the position of being our Principal.

We worked with the canteen providers and school management to try to improve the quality of food
provided by this service and are currently working alongside the school counselor to prepare for Wellbeing Week. Through all of this, we’ve learnt the true meaning behind the saying “teamwork makes the dream work”. Seeing as we are students of TISPC ourselves, we were able to truly understand certain obstacles faced by our fellow friends on a deeper level and to tackle them in a respectable way. We urge all of you to step up and be part of this council, take charge and be the change. Not only will you be able to step away with many invaluable life skills but also new friendships and memories that you will treasure. We would also like to take this time to thank all of you who voted for us to represent you on TISPC’s Student Council as well as Ms Vallance for being our constant support and guidance. We wish next year’s committee the very best with their future endeavours.

his year has been an exciting and busy time for Art at TISP. We welcomed a Key Stage 2 primary art specialist to the department and introduced two beautiful new fully equipped art rooms for Key Stage 3 students. It has been rewarding to watch students gain skills and confidence in a wide range of media and materials in such innovative environments as they progress through each year group. Fantastic levels of work were produced by Key Stage 2 students who had great fun creating three dimensional house sculptures, bold, beautiful paper flowers and charcoal self portraits. Key Stage 3 art had a successful year, with the introduction of new schemes of work that ranged from 3 dimensional sculptures and collages based on Natural Forms’ to fun paint media projects such as the Year 7 ‘Ancestor’ portraits or the Year 8 ‘Frutti’ portraits. Along with the wonderful collaborative Year 9 ’Grid’ portraits displayed on the Canteen wall these projects demonstrate contemporary approaches to the traditional genre of Portraiture. This year we saw some outstanding outcomes from Key Stage 4. The year 10 cohort produced amazing collage and ink media works in response to the theme ‘Architecture as a Reflection of Culture,’ which are on
display in the library. Year 11 GCSE students explored their own personal responses to the exam themes in a diverse range of media and outcomes. Their level of creativity shown throughout the research and experimentation has been excellent. We wish them well in their new courses next year and hope they will stay in touch. Students from years 7, 8, 9 and 10 had great fun in the mud creating a mural for the Zen Garden during Ecoweek. This happy mural features hummingbirds, flowers and plants and is burst of vivid colour on the South wall of the school. I would like to thank all members of the Art department for their dedication and expertise and commend the wonderful work by the students who made the mural possible. World Autism Day was also another lovely experience for our teachers who organised the bookmark event to show support for people with autism.

e are proud to announce, our first cohort of Year 11 and 23 students from Year 10 who sat for IGCSE in May and managed to get awesome results. The department is proud for them. The students have worked very hard to achieve these results. As part of the lessons beside main focus on syllable we try to make the lesson interesting, holistic and challenging to them. Therefore, our student from KS4 were being challenged to write an essay on all the festivals they celebrate and to present it. The amount of work and the creativity of the essays were awesome. Meanwhile, the KS3 students had to find information

about the festival and design a poster. They even did 3D lampu pelita, ketupat and lemang. All these works were displayed along the staircase and breakout areas. The best part of the event was the assembly performance by all the KS3 and KS4. In this performance, they did a musical drama which is a showcase of Malay traditional culture. During Merdeka celebration KS3 students created their own poem about Merdeka. They tried to express how much they love the country and what they can do to show their love. KS4 did a Merdeka performance for assembly, a dance titled “Joget Malaysia”, Singing “Negaraku sehati sejiwa” song and recited a poem about Merdeka. It has been such a wonderful year for our department this year. There are challenges we have to face, yet we managed to overcome these with great success.

DESIGN TECHNOLOGY HOD: Dr Michele Zarro Teachers: Mohd Munir Bin Zulkipli; Ruthradevan Tamilselvan; Parimala Subramaniam DT Technician: Muhammad Fakrul Haikal Bin Zaflee 2017 has been an exciting and busy time for DT at TISPC. We welcomed a Key Stage 1& 2 primary DT specialist and DT Technician to the department and introduced our newly equipped DT rooms with more industrial machines and tools for Key Stage 3 & 4 students. KS1 started the year making some paper Wind Chimes ( Mechanical), fabric bunting (Textile), moving picture (Mechanical) and sensational salads (Food). Students were very enthusiastic learning new skills through these simple projects that also offer opportunities for them to work independently. In KS2 students explored concepts related to ‘The Garden’, Battery operated light, creating mechanical posters, and bread making. These units challenged the students to be more creative and they had more hands on lessons that produced quality work. KS3 started the year with some amazing work using Resistant Material inspired by Key rings, Tic Tac Toe and a Maze game box. It was a fundamental introduction to resistant material studies which was further enhanced with their 2D and 3D drawing skills. Students were excited with the next projects, wooden house models, jitter bugs and memo boards. To end the term students constructed different kites, wind chimes and packaging which utilized their designing and manufacturing skills. KS4 Year 10 students were introduced to design analysis and idea development this year. They produced amazing sketch work informed and inspired
by Apple products and went on to produce popup cards based on a particular theme. Later in the year they were asked to build an aeroplane model inspired by World War 1 and World War 2. This required students to research aeroplane structures and students worked hard to get the plane just right. This year has been a busy year for Year 11 preparing for their IGCSE DT papers. The entire Year 11 are also focused on completing their final year coursework which they have been working on for the past year. The students were supported by the DT teachers and our technician in order to produce quality coursework. We wish them GOOD LUCK! It has been a year with a lot of hard work and new learning experiences were gained by both students and the teachers. We hope the coming year will be more exciting and we look forward to continued quality work produced by our DT students.

rama was newly introduced as a Subject for the Key Stage 4 students at the beginning of the year. The subject is a great addition to the TISPC subject offerings as Drama teaches the students valuable skills, which they do not necessarily learn in any of the other subjects.
Drama has also had the opportunity to support those students who are involved in the Music department as well as those students who were taking part in various competitions and performances in Malaysia and abroad.
Earlier this year the Year 10 students along with some Year 9 English students attended the production of MUD: The Musical - a story of Kuala Lumpur. This was a great production, which the students seemed to enjoy very much and also proved invaluable in helping them to understand how the theatre works.
Congratulations to Rachel Ting Vay Syuen, Jia Min (Rebecca) and Sachin Thambyrajah who took part in the Malaysian Championships of Performing Arts and were awarded medals for their performances. Rachel also received a sponsorship to attend the International Competition, which was held in Los Angeles, USA.
As a new subject to many local students, Drama has proved to be a challenging and demanding subject that brings out the very best in the students. In class students have been working on individual pieces like monologues from Shakespeare and contemporary texts. Working together in groups and pairs, the students are also able to work together and develop various life skills while experimenting and performing scripts and their own devised pieces.
We look forward to seeing the current year 10 group realize their potential next year as the first group to graduate from IGSCE Drama at TISPC. Equally, we are excited to welcome a new group of year 10s into the fold.
With the newly acquired drama blocks and movable flats that were purchased in the first term, the Drama room has been transformed into a mini theatre, which has enabled the students to explore more of their creativity and imagination. The key stage 3 students were also able to experience a more structured drama lesson which saw them learn the elements of drama, basic script reading skills and warm up and vocal techniques.

his year the music program has seen a huge change. With the increasing number of music teachers, the Music Department has grown tremendously over the past few years. The Music Department offers educational and performance activities for students through a variety of musical experiences and music courses. Besides learning music theory, the students also get to participate in performing ensembles such as percussion, recorder, ukulele and guitar ensembles in music lessons. Occasionally, the students would also perform on stage for assemblies. At TISPC, we make music an enjoyable learning experience and encourage students to participate in a variety of musical events. Students develop their performing, listening, composing and appraising skills through a variety of music and movement activities.
In KS3 Music, students get to play in ensembles performing their own music compositions. They get to experienced different music genres and they learn music from different culture such as African, Chinese and Indonesian music. They are introduced to Jazz where they improvise melodies in blues. Using ICT as a medium, students were required to compose background music/underscore for a still image. They research musical ideas in film music by John Williams and they learn how to use garageband in their composition. Through a variety of activities across different years, music has been an enjoyable learning experience for all. hysical Education, the subject, supports the curriculum’s vision to enable students to become confident, connected, actively involved lifelong learners. In Taylor’s International School Puchong, the subject also allows the students to participate in developmentally appropriate activities, and progress and reinforce cooperative behaviour as responsible and caring students. The subject has been taught to establish lifelong fitness goals and increase their understanding of a wide range of sports. The skills taught in Physical Education improve students’ performance, sharpen their knowledge of strategy and tactics, and help them to transfer knowledge to other subjects, including biology, PSHE and mathematics. The lessons are providing a variety of activities, which will motivate the students and increase participation in our school sports team network. The sports taught to secondary students so far have been Netball, Handball, Athletics, Volleyball, Basketball. We have also taught brand new subjects which have never been taught in the school before such as Gymnastics, Team Building and Hockey. We are currently teaching Gymnastics, Football, and Health-Related fitness this term in our brand new state-of-the-art gym complex. The skills, rules of the games and techniques to play are catered to the students needs. We have actively encouraged students to lead their own warm up related activities in regard to the sport they are participating
in. Students are encouraged to show understanding of the muscles involved and the purpose of the learning outcomes. At the end of the lessons, students conduct an assessment to evaluate their performance during the class. The Physical Education topics we have chosen specifically for our student’s involved mental and physical challenges designed to encourage the students to build their level confidence. It has been an excellent year for IGCSE PE and we are super excited to see our first cohort graduate through the course. Coupled with this, year 10 have began the course in excellent fashion and have already completed two thirds of the theoretical content. The course numbers have grown significantly throughout the year and now has 20 students enrolled. This is expected to grow again as of next year to reflect the excellent progress being made by the PE department. We are delighted to have been able to assess students this year in a range of sports including Rock Climbing, Swimming, pool based personal survival, Netball, Volleyball, Dance and Golf. With the introduction of the new school Gym facility we predict that students will have access to assessments in weight training too, as of next year. Students have found the course fun, engaging and as all healthy learning needs, challenging. We are delighted with the progress students have made and even more so with the growing confidence they have developed throughout the year. Some students are now ICT experts and have ‘loved’ seeing themselves on the big screen. Well done to each and every one of you.

t has been another fantastic year for Science here at TISPC. We have continued to grow as a department and welcomed a further 4 teachers into our team. We have continued with our mission to bring science to life for our young minds and as such have provided many opportunities for all students to get their hands dirty and experience hands on science for themselves. Our year 7 students worked hard to earn their lab licenses at the beginning of the year. In order to obtain one, they had to prove that they could follow all of our safety rules
without prompting as they conducted an experiment. They have all put their licenses to good use this year as they experimented with forces, bunsen burners and microscopes. Our year 8 students have been building upon that foundation knowledge that they gained in year 7. They have enjoyed applying their understanding to real life examples both inside and outside the lab. They have experimented with electricity, investigated our school ecosystems and learned how to use chemistry to survive in the wilderness! Our year 9 students have been busy developing their independent learning and thinking skills with a focus on the application skills they will need for IGCSE . They have enjoyed highly challenged based learning experiences, from courtroom dramas involving forensic investigation, to DNA extraction and modelling the atom.
119
We were also proud to launch the science club for Key Stage 3 CCA. The students have had a fabulous time designing and making their own lab coats; building huge towers out of marshmallows and toothpicks; building a cornflour bomb, a sugar snake and growing their own crystals. This club has been a roaring success and we are keen to open it up to KS4 next year. In KS4 we have been excited to help another intake of year 10 students start on their IGCSE journey. Our triple scientists have adapted well to the pressures of the fast paced curriculum and have been working very hard on refining both their skills as scientists and their exam technique as scholars. Having separate teachers for Biology, Chemistry and Physics has allowed them to really be inspired by teachers who love their particular branch of science.
