RESUME

INTRODUCTION My passion for connection can be found in all aspects of my life. In studio, I thrived when developing a connection to the design program, allowing me to create a space for the users to feel connected to every aspect of design. Being involved in team projects allowed me to connect with my peers and collaborate on all levels to develop my skills and take projects to the next level. Outside of studio, I spent my time on the sidelines as a member of the K-State Cheer Team. Being a part of this team gave me a unique perspective about connection. As a team captain and an assistant coach of 50 athletes, learning how to connect to a large group required the ability to adapt and have patience as each person learns differently. Every cheerleader, practice, and obstacle each presented an opportunity to learn differently. Solving problems and encouraging individual development to enhance the team mentality while building my leadership skills.

STRENGTHS Leader Extroverted Committed to Success Team Player Organized Energetic

SUMNER ACADEMY For my capstone project, our studio was divided into three groups, my group was composed of 11 designers and assigned to Sumner Academy in Kansas City, Kansas. The project time-line consisted of 6 weeks of precedent studies and research, a schematic design phase which was presented to students and administration from Sumner, a design development phase, and ended with a presentation of our final proposal. Our group found success into focusing our strengths in different areas and constantly collaborating to create a consistent feel with all phases and with the existing building.Â

PEDAGOGIES Blended Learning

Discussion Based

Project Based

CLASSROOM DESIGN Using pedagogies as a driving factor for design inspired investigation into the development of creating efficient classrooms that compel students to learn and educators to use resources to adapt to teach styles of the 21stcentury.

MEDIA CENTER DESIGN Varying group sizes in media centers allows for a variety of learners to achieve the experience a media center should provide. Each area in the library is focused on providing a space for those learners to collect and collaborate at multiple scales while incorporating 21st-century applications.

SCHOOL IDENTITY

SAAS

SAAS

COMMON SPACES -Represents the school’s historic orange and the new color of blue -Designates rooms for collaboration or support staff rooms -Misc. Classrooms

MATH AND SCIENCE -Green and blue used to represent the STEM classes -Color theory states that green represents growth and nature which connects STEM curriculum

HISTORY AND LANGUAGE -Yellow is used with the blue to assist students in finding the history and language classrooms -Yellow color theory states that it evokes the feeling of enlightenment

GRAPHIC DESIGN The graphic wall was designed with the school’s identity, versatility and color theory in mind. Each square is composed of an icon that represents an aspect of Sumner Academy, the uniform shape allows for different configurations to brand each subject wing with its own unique design.

CIRCULATION SECURE ENTRY Sumner Academy’s existing secure entry was set to serve the entire school’s population (around 1,000 students). Students had this metal detector to enter through, causing a large amount of traffic in the morning. To alleviate this problem, phase 3 rerouted the bus loop to drop off at the new northern entrance. The decision to redirect bus traffic allowed the existing entrance to still function, just more efficiently.

Existing First Floor

Proposed First Floor Circulation Path

Way-finding Inspired by the Bauhaus font used on the existing entrance, the design team used Bauhaus numbers to label the classrooms, keeping the history while still giving a fresh feel to the hallways. Outside of each classroom is a column that is angled allowing students to see the classroom numbers even from a distance and while passing quickly in the hallways.

EXTERIOR RENOVATION Exterior renovations added a large number of exterior windows allowing in natural sunlight. The update also included features of steel that will rust overtime to complement the existing brick of Sumner Academy.

LEARNSCAPE During my internship experience at Hollis + Miller, we designed and built an outdoor learning environment to donate to a local school, Sunflower Elementary in Lenexa, Kansas. This project was produced mainly by interns with the help of two architects and the input from the school district receiving the donation. The design focused on giving students access to the outdoors while incorporating the districts sustainability curriculum of sustainable energy, rainwater collection, and ecology.

DESIGN / BUILD DESIGN / BUILD DESIGN / BUILD

DESIGN PROCESS Elementary Charrette

At the beginning of our project we hosted 25 students from Sunflower Elementary school. We taught them what being a designer was like while they taught us to think outside the box for this outdoor learning environment.

All Office Charrette

As interns, we hosted a design charrette for the office to give input on design decisions. This gave us an opportunity to allow the office to invest in the project and provided different points of views to solutions we used to execute the design.

Outdoor Furniture The design intent behind the tables located on the northern deck was the ability to adapt to the different heights between students from grades K - 6. The solid surface top allows students to have a surface to work on and when students make a mess it is easily washable while withstanding outdoor extremities.

Overhead Element The overhead element features angled beams that provide adequate shade in the summer while allowing sun in during the winter months. The lowest side is equipped with two solar panels that supply power to an outlet for teachers and students to plug in their IPads.

2.5 LAW FIRM 2.5 Law is a prime example of forming a connection between the overall design and the client. The client owns a civil liberties law firm and wants to expand into an office in the heart of Boston. With Boston’s vast history as the driving force behind the concept of the Law Firm, this felt like the perfect fit for a civil liberty law firm. Along with the connection to history, another important factor in designing this law firm is the importance of community involvement in education of civil liberties. Â

CORPORATE CORPORATE CORPORATE

FREEDOM TRAIL CEILING ELEMENT

The ceiling element was influenced by the idea of integrating the freedom trail into the design. Taking this significant trail and then arraying it to create visual interest in all parts of the office.

CONFERENCE ROOMS There are 16 significant stops on the freedom trail which influenced the decision to provide 16 different conference spaces in the firm. Each firm is named after a stop and features a ceiling element piece that represents those locations on the trail.

COMMUNITY AREA Every area is filled with art designed by local Bostonian artist. This connects occupants with the local art scene and creates a importance on supporting the community. The long shape allows for the connecting conference room to overflow into the space and host large community events.

CONFERENCE ROOM Hosting large meetings is important at 2.5 Law, this main conference rooms is easily accessible to clients and lawyers. At each end of the conference room there are glass panels that can be closed for privacy or opened to promote the sense of connection in the space.

Love, Nona Designing for family is hard, but designing for an outspoken Italian Nona is something no one prepares you for. Love Nona is an Italian restaurant designed using the close-knit feeling of Italian family dinners as inspiration. Throughout the design process, I consulted my Nona to ensure the restaurant felt authentic to her heritage. I wanted to give customers the same feeling of warmth I have experienced around a homemade meal, with good wine and loud conversations.

PROJECT ASPECTS Floor Plan Design Individual Project Branding Restaurant Design 8 Week Project

RESTAURANT RESTAURANT RESTAURANT

INSPIRATION Italian Culture To begin my design process, I looked at a large collection of outdoor spaces in Italy. I noticed a lot of greenery and trellis designs. Another tradition that I noticed a lot of images contained was outdoor seating and large tables filled with wine bottles, candles, and multiple plates of food.

FAMILY INFLUENCE The signature used in the logo for the restaurant was obtained from a birthday card that my Nona sent to me. I took the signature live traced it to allow for versatility on menus, signage and take home containers.

Overhead Trellis /HYHO &RS\

FAMILY PHOTOS As a final touch to the restaurant I added a group of family photos to allow people in the restaurant to feel like they are at my actual Nona’s house.
