“Hello, this is Kevin. I discovered your gear recently and I must say that I’m delighted! Would you not like to be the bags/luggage partner of my mountain bike race in South Africa?” South Africa? Mountain bike race? Sounds good, doesn’t it? Travelling with a mountain bike is our speciality, and we have not really got to know South Africa yet … Very soon however, we realise what it’s all about with Kevin and “this race in South Africa”. Kevin Vermaak is the founder of the legendary CAPE EPIC, known as the longest and toughest mountain bike stage race of the world: eight days of racing, spanning 700 kilometres and climbing 16,000 metres. Even though these facts suggest torture rather than fun, the starting tickets for the race are already sold out after 30 seconds. There are 1200 starting positions, which are taken by pros and amateurs alike. There are plenty of 8

stars among them: participants from 80 nations, 19 mountain bike world champions, 13 Olympic medallists, rugby world champions, Champions League soccer players, and Formula One world champions. They all come together here and start in teams of two to compete in the same race. The world marathon elite is racing to settle victory between themselves, while for all the other riders the challenge is in the first instance to actually cross the finishing line after eight days of racing. Everything is organised perfectly. Each participant has his own tent, and there are service stations for the bikes, massage stations for the riders, catering tents, a special laundry service, recreation areas and a number of other convenient offers, making the “Racers Village” at the relevant destination a fully-fledged tent city on every day. Equipment transport is perfectly organised as well: Vincent and his crew

of eleven are passionately committed to ensuring that each rider receives his personal luggage as soon as he arrives at his relevant target destination. For this, an entire lorry load of individually numbered EVOC bags are neatly aligned in a row in the luggage area and handed out to the exhausted racing cyclists, accompanied by music and great atmosphere. Then it’s time to take a shower, get a massage, grab some food and try to recover as much as possible for the next stage. Because early the next morning it’s all about overcoming one’s pain, jumping onto the saddle and facing the battle against dirt and dust, heat and cold, sun and rain, blood, sweat and tears. BRACE LINK The BRACE LINK is a freely moving connector that connects the backpack shoulder strap and the pack sack in an innovative way, which enables the carrying straps to adapt to the individual shoulder width of the wearer. TRACE 18L & STAGE 12L We are expanded our PERFORMANCE BACKPACK line by adding two technical daypacks with the new AIRFLOW CONTACT carrying system: the TRACE 18l and the STAGE 12l. To meet the requirements, the generated impact force of the steel body of 150 – 180 kN must be slowed down to an average residual force of a maximum of 18 kN. Reaching a residual force of only 9,75 kN, the EVOC LITESHIELD BACK PROTECTOR offers damping capabilities which are almost twice as effective as the standards require.

The typical shock absorption curve is relatively pointed for most protectors so the impact energy hits the body in a very direct manner. The EVOC LITESHIELD BACK PROTECTOR, however, offers a segmented layer construction to guarantee perfect damping. The absorption curve is very flat. LITESHIELD CARRYING SYSTEM The heart of the system is the extra-wide, ergonomically shaped 01 neoprene hip belt with Velcro fastening and large heavy-duty buckles, which transfers the main load to the hips, thereby positioning the pack optimally at the body’s centre of gravity. The ergonomically designed shoulder straps keep the backpack comfortably in place.

Proximity to the body is important for 02 back protectors, and this has been optimized for maximum possible ventilation by way of air mesh elements, EVA pads with ventilation holes and a large ventilation channel in the centre.

AIR CIRCULATION The AIR CIRCULATION SYSTEM is featured in all our BLACKLINE backpacks, because it guarantees perfect ventilation even during high-sweat and high-strain activities. Lateral cut-outs along the channel enable

even more air to flow out. In addition, the padding along the sides of the back has been reduced to further optimise air outflow, without restricting the carrying comfort.

LITESHIELD CARRYING SYSTEM AIR

Besides the main focus on protection, load transfer and great carrying comfort, emphasis has also been placed on providing the completely newly developed LITESHIELD CARRY SYSTEM AIR with maximum ventilation. The key challenge here was to combine proximity to the body, which is a prerequisite for back protectors, with the highest degree of air ventilation. In addition to the large, central ventilation channel, the close-fitting back area has been equipped with 2 rows of “ventilation grids”: EVA foam strips 02 with ventilation holes

and an air mesh covering, together with a special, oblique gabled groove reduce the contact area with the back, thereby enhancing the circulation of air. The extra-wide, ergonomically shaped hip belt 01 on this carrying system is made from highly elastic, looped fabric, which provides the necessary sturdiness as well as maximum air permeability. In this way, the main load is transferred to the hips, where it is fixed, while optimum breathability is ensured – even in the case of fully laden backpacks.

AIRO FLEX The AIRO FLEX is both air-permeable and flexible, which guarantees perfect ventilation at all times. We use this material in our hip belts, where

it provides superior wearing comfort even during high-strain activities thanks to its ventilation characteristics.

Nevertheless, we wanted to charge hard and ride fast in our last run of the day, since you never know if youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ll ever come back here to ride your bike. As always, it was a bit of the same thing all over again: The last run was to be the best of all, but unfortunately last runs are often the ones in which you fall. Naturally, we were wearing a helmet, protectors and a protector backpack but still, crashing hard so far away from home is never really an option. This time again, and especially here, the challenge was to find the right mix of courage and caution â&#x20AC;&#x201C; the two most important components for maximum riding pleasure. TECHNICAL PERFORMANCE BACKPACKS TECHNOLOGY

AIR CIRCULATION The AIR CIRCULATION SYSTEM is featured in all our PERFORMANCE line backpacks, because it guarantees perfect ventilation even during high-sweat and high-strain activities. Lateral cut-outs along the channel enable even more air to flow out. In addition, the padding along

the sides of the back has been reduced to further optimise air outflow, without restricting the carrying comfort.

AIRO FLEX The AIRO FLEX is an extremely durable fabric that is both air-permeable and flexible. We use this material in our highest-quality hip belts, where it ensures excellent load distribution to the hips as well as maximum ventilation – for superior wearing comfort.

BRACE LINK The BRACE LINK adjusts the shoulder belts perfectly to the width of the athletes shoulders. This automatically adjustment endorse the load transfer to the body’s centre of gravity, while at the same time the contact areas with back and shoulders are minimized. Even wearing a neck brace is possbile through the BRACE LINK.

AIR FLOW CONTACT SYSTEM The requirement here is to transfer even larger loads to the body’s centre of gravity such that they become neutral, while at the same time minimising the contact areas with the back and shoulders.

We solve this contradiction by means of a back component where all ventilation components such as large ventilation channels 01 and specially grooved and perforated EVA pads 02 behind mesh material have practically been moved to the inside. This ensures that the pack fits close to the back and simultaneously provides optimised back ventilation. Hip belt wings with air mesh and ventilation slots extend the concept of a close-fitting yet well ventilated back system in terms of load transfer and carrying area.

MAXIMUM PROTECTION AND MINIMUM WEIGHT The more fragile portions are protected by reinforcing elements in neuralgic areas (plastic/PE plates and rods, foam padding). As the frame is positioned upright, the areas of the bike that can take stress (saddle-saddle post-down tube; front set-head tube-fork) are actively used to deflect impact and pressure from the exterior.

The wheel compartments and the major part of the weight are in the rear area of the bag, which means that the centre of gravity is focused on the wide, stable running gear. That is why pulling the bag has never been easier. The numerous, cleverly positioned handles make handling the bag while loading also very simple, wherever you are.

As early as in the 90s, an active community started to take fixed hub bikes â&#x20AC;&#x201C; todayâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s â&#x20AC;&#x153;Fixiesâ&#x20AC;? â&#x20AC;&#x201C; from indoor track cycling to the streets of the city. Beautifully manufactured steel frames, intricate coatings and finishs and rare components were combined to create pure pieces of art. Today, a great number of small underground brands specialise in (single speed) bikes, apparel and accessories for city biking with style. No wonder, since riding a bike in Tokyo is a one-of-a-kind experience: The city is huge and all streets are perfectly tarmaced. You can explore innumerable exciting areas and districts â&#x20AC;&#x201C; easily accessible by bike but a lot of effort to get to by foot. In addition to this, at some point in time you fall prey to biking further and further because the city seems to be never-ending and you always want to know whatâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s behind the next cornerâ&#x20AC;Ś We were riding our bikes in the most diverse districts of the city for two days in order to test our new city bags and backpacks. Besides dozens of kilometres of tarmac we collected countless memorable impressions: super close and incomparable, straight from the pulsating lifelines of this metropolis. When the Enduro World Series kicked off in Chile, we seized the opportunity to take some shots in the amazing local mountain scenery since it is usually a real challenge to find so many good EVOC riders in one and the same location.

This photo was taken in Nevados de Chillan at 2500 metres above sea level: it was not that warm, the trails were rather technical and we were surrounded by dozens of steaming sulphur springs. Youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;d better know what you are doing up there, and youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;d better take the right equipment! The day was almost over and weâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;d hoped for a bit of sun. But quite often itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s during bad weather that you come across the most exiting motifs. Far away and for a few seconds only, a sole sunray broke through the clouds and lit up the colourful mountain ranges around us. Julia Hofmann and Tobi Woggon immediately grabbed their bikes and once more surfed along this dream of a trail. Et voilĂĄ: a really cool mountain bike shot!

MATERIALS

THE MATERIALS USED TO MANUFACTURE OUR PRODUCTS ARE EXCLUSIVELY SELECTED OR DEVELOPED BY US: We concentrate on polyamide (“Nylon”) for all our bags and backpacks, because it is the lightest, most durable and abrasion-resistant type of material available. We adapt the thread gauge and the coating of every fabric according to each product’s specific requirements. We use PU-coatings to gain maximum waterproofing – also a very wear-resistant and robust material that is not susceptible to temperature changes.

NYLON 210/D RIPSTOP, PU COATED The demands for the perfect outer material of a backpack can be summed up in four characteristics: durable, abrasion resistant, water repellent and very light. This is exactly what our Nylon 210/D Ripstop offers. A double

PU-coating of the lightweight nylon base provides moisture protection and wear resistance. A micro texture of filaments segments the basic fabric into tiny squares to prevent rips – hence the name Ripstop.

NYLON 420/D, PU COATED This Nylon has slightly thicker threads which make it the perfect outer material for all backpacks and bags that require a higher

degree of abrasion resistance and durability without a lot of extra weight. The ideal material for our products.

BALLISTIC NYLON 1680/D, PU COATED Our most durable Nylon for the most exposed areas which are most subjected to stress. Its increased thread gauge (1680 Denier) makes it an

extremely abrasion and tear resistant material that improves durability in highly stressed areas (e.g. corners and edges) drastically.

NYLON 420 CHECK 4X4 PU COATED The special surface structure of this ripstop material is the result of interweaving threads of different thicknesses across several levels, thereby creating an extremely tear- and

abrasion-resistant material of low weight – making it the perfect fabric for use in our City & Travel products.

NYLON 210T TAFETTA PU 1500MG WR For our waterproof backpack raincovers and safe pouches we employ this high end polyamide with PU coating.

CORDURA® 1000/D, PU COATED Cordura® is a special, highly durable fabric made of polyamide (Nylon) the individual threads of which are first cut and then spun and woven again. This process creates an especially tear and abrasion resistant material which is ideal for

the highly stressed areas of our products, such as the bottom portions of bags and backpacks. The PU coating makes the surface moisture and dirt resistant.

MATERIALS

P 600/D, PU COATED A very durable fabric for high-abrasion areas, it is also tear-resistant and lightweight while absorbing almost no moisture. Combining

these characteristics, it’s the perfect material for high-stress pockets or backpack base constructions.

AIR MESH Air Mesh is equipped with fine pores for excellent air circulation and does not absorb moisture. This makes it perfectly suited as a ventilating cover fabric for the back parts of our protector backpacks.

3D AIR MESH This three dimensionally structured fabric with variable thread sizes (P75D*30D) offers the optimal properties in ventilation and cushioning for the covers of paddings and shoulder straps.

NEOPRENE Well known from water sports, neoprene also has ideal properties for high-end backpacks. Very strong and at the same time flexible over a wide temperature range, it works outstandingly

for our hip belts. The material additionally offers great temperature regulation and shock absorbing qualities.

TRANSPARENT TARPAULIN Particularly tough and tear-resistant, waterproof material, which is transparent as an added bonus. Ideally suited for compartments in backpacks and bags that are exposed to high strain

while also providing an excellent overview, for instance when it comes to the small parts compartment for tools.

AIRO FLEX A nylon fabric (fish bone structure) offers great flexibility and uncompromising durablity as well as outstanding breathability, making it the perfect material for use in our highest-quality hig belts.

EVOC TARPAULIN Tarpaulin, a strong, flexible and waterproof material is normally made of polyester coated with PVC, however, EVOC uses a woven polyamide fabric coated with EPO® on both sides which results in an advanced material with enEPO®: Way better than PVC because x Chloro free+ azo free x No dioxin, heavy metals or phthalate pollution x No ozone depleting substances x No dye dispersal x Greater flexibility + lower density

NON STICK VELCRO Non Stick Velcro only adheres to its counterpart, which prevents it from sticking to other fabrics on contact. This reduces the damage to fabric through torn out fibres.

POLYGIENE Polygiene is a special fabric treatment that incorporates silver ions and prevents the formation of microorganisms such as bacteria or fungi. This treatment eliminates odour build-up, reduces skin irritations and decreases the risk of fungal infection.
