FY2013 timeline
ICAD GROUP FY2013 Timeline of economic development news, events and activity
ICAD Group works to enhance the quality of our communities by serving the business development needs of interstate commerce companies. Through these efforts, we create, collaborate and lead regional economic development initiatives that contribute to the creation and growth of companies, wealth and quality jobs.
The IC CoLab: A New Model for Collaboration People and ideas gravitate to areas where there is a vibrant energy and common spirit. New economy workers are increasingly mobile. Workplaces are being designed to encourage cross functionality, shared ideas, and personal wellness. According to Gallup, communities with “intellectually stimulating cultures attract citizens who are intellectually, physically, and psychologically willing and prepared to pursue entrepreneurship.”1 These new models for work and economic development serve as inspiration and justification for the creation of the IC CoLab. The goal was to create a contemporary workspace that encourages collaboration; a space where people and companies can work independently while still having the opportunity to connect with and be energized by other professionals. ICAD Group’s IC CoLab provides this environment to start-ups, creatives, entrepreneurs, and interstate commerce companies in the area. All members are provided wi-fi, printing and photocopying, public and private spaces, conference rooms and the lifeblood of all workspaces, lots and lots of coffee. Plus we have The IC CoLab is different. It’s not just a great place a full slate of programs and learning sessions to work; it’s the best place to grow. The IC CoLab was members help customize Mazira’s introduction to the startup ecosystem. We made and create.
new connections, acquired new contracts and friendly advice is always just around the corner.
From drop in memberships to dedicated workspaces, the IC CoLab provides these resources to individuals and companies of all sizes. For established companies, the space is perfect for off-site teams looking for fresh ideas and a change of pace. For weekend warriors, coffeeshop cowboys, or those moonlighting from their home offices, this is a nourishing environment dedicated to seeing ideas flourish. Anith Mathai, CEO, Mazira
Perhaps most important is that the IC CoLab is the first coworking space in the nation operated by an economic development group. This provides our clients and tenants the support and structure they need, offered with a commitment to the advancement of the space, the company, and our local economy. The space wouldn’t be possible without the assistance of supporters and sponsors, including the City of Iowa City, The University of Iowa, University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Allsteel, ACT, Pearson, Neumann Monson Architects, Seed Here, and the Entrepreneurial Development Center. For FY2013, the IC CoLab generated $202,868.68 of income through membership fees and sponsorships. Start-up, marketing and operational expenses through June 30 totaled $180,703.59.2 We are creating something special. This is a home for events, people and ideas to come together and further economic development. Stop in sometime, we’d love to show you around. Witters, Dan. “Attracting Entrepreneurs to Your City.” Gallup Business Journal. November 2012. Web. July 2013. None of ICAD Group’s other operations are included in this statement.
