This is helping me focus more with my family. It’s making me a better listener and a better Mother and wife. I bet a lot of you face the same challenges so I wanted to share this. The audience was made up of young women seeking to become leaders in organizations of all types. One young woman

asked me what questions she should ask a company wanting to hire her - because she has so many employer options! She said I want “a company that goes deep with their values”. It was exciting to share about our Mission, Vision and Values, and all we are doing here at Research. Are you seeing a renewed focus on YOU this year? What do you think about the new ICARE classes? We are hearing many positives. And frankly after attending an ICARE class, some of our colleagues are realizing

they need a different pace. Some are transitioning to other organizations and new roles. On the other hand, when an employee re-commits that he or she CAN follow through on our ICARE standards, it’s win / win for Research. We need every employee at Research committed to being their best right here! My message to both women and men is “it’s time to come together”! We are our best when we help each other –our teamwork lifts the organization! Thank you for the commitment! Sincerely,

Excellence | Life After Care I am a cancer survivor. After three surgeries to remove tumors and most of the lymph nodes in my right under arm, I came to Research Medical Center’s Health Pavilion for Lymphedema Therapy and Occupational Therapy. I understand and appreciate how much of the work of recovery happens after the drama of diagnosis and surgery during the months of therapy. I was fortunate to have the professional care of two excellent therapists. I had 15 sessions with Bernie for lymphedema control and 28 sessions with Kristen for scar reduction and recovery of range of motion. Over the months I learned how to adjust to my “new normal” after the surgeries, and by the end of my sessions felt confident with the challenges of self-care that will hold and extend the progress we have made. I wear compression wraps every night on the arm and do daily exercises to stretch the arm and move lymphatic fluid. I use the exercise resources at Research to walk and the pool to swim as part of my regular schedule of self-care. I am more aware now of the psychological and emotional toll that cancer has on every patient, and I am deeply grateful for the personal care I received from my therapists as part of their professional skills at keeping me motivated during a difficult time. I want to thank Bernie and Kristen and the staff at Research Medical Center’s Brookside Campus. -Anonymous

Above All Else, We Are Committed to the Care and Improvement of Human Life Giving each patient and their family the best patient experience is a top priority at every Research entity. This means every patient, every time and every touch. Always. Not Sometimes, Not Usually. Always. When patients take the time to let us know they had a great experience, we’ll share them.
4th Floor/Cardiac
“It’s been over a month now since I received care there at RMC, but all off my (cardiac) nurses on the forth floor wing were purely wonderful. Aids/techs/blood suckers were all real good too.”
Obstetrics
“The Enhanced Recovery pre-op protocol is a definite winner in my book; should be rolled out to all surgeries. Almost all staff associated with surgery were very prepared, competent and helpful. My doctor, Dr. Blair Smith, is the greatest -- sharp, personable, explains things well in easy-tounderstand terms. I didn’t understand or appreciate stripping the hallway floors outside my room at midnight, but realize that’s not in the purview of the staff or the ones doing the work. Thanks for the generally good care and mostly positive experience”
Imaging
“The imaging department on Brookside has the best customer service in town. I am so impressed with them and would recommend them and their services. It’s worth the drive!”
ER
“My neighbor’s dog bit my son - seen SUPER FAST, not like other ER waiting areas. Doc was in room by time nurse finished her work- excellent staff!”
Sarah Cannon Cancer Center - From Our CEO
“Today I rounded in our Sarah Cannon Cancer Center and I had the opportunity to meet an incredible couple from OP, KS. The husband was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer three years ago. This gentleman sought opinions at Sloan Kettering and Vanderbilt. The family chose RMC three years ago and they are so thankful they went with their heart, ‘The team at RMC pours their heart and soul into their care. RMC has the best team of clinicians! This is an incredible institution.’ They are grateful to all the employees in the cancer center, our navigators, Dr. Cates, Dr. Singh, Dr. Mal, Dr. Seligson and the team on 4 East. I can’t tell you how touching it was to hear them describe our mission driven care. Above all else, we have given this family life, time and hope! He’s in remission! Unbelievable. That’s what we do!”
Other Comments
“I’ll never be able to thank you enough for taking such great care of me, well all of us”

RESPECT INTERNAL APPRECIATION The idea of acknowledging ones feelings, listening to others, and appreciating someone because of their qualities, actions and achievements.
“Michaela it was great speaking with you today. I enjoyed listening to you share in class about your experiences with HCA. You are a great example of servant leadership. You display our I-CARE values because you always have a smile and are energetic with your delivery. You are the perfect candidate to teach the I-CARE classes! Thank you so much for all you do to better the organization as a whole. See you April 11th!” I just wanted to tell you that over the last two months I have felt more appreciated by my supervisor and the management team than I have at any other work place. The thank you cards sent to my home and the cookies delivered on Valentine’s day are very much appreciated. I want you to know that your efforts are appreciated as well.
At Research Medical Center, one of our priorities is to take care of our employees. Code You is a peer to peer support system; started by your peers, created for your peers. As health care providers we take care of patients and families after traumatic and emotional situation daily, but often forget to take the time to care for ourselves. The goal of Code you is to help our health care team members understand the impact of stress and help employees quickly return to their satisfying professional practice. The team is comprised of physicians, nurses, social workers, and respiratory therapist. The team has been trained in crisis support and stress management and were selected because of their high level of competency in helping peers.
