Catalan regional funds are compatible with the state aid from the Ministry of Culture as well as supranational bodies like MEDIA, Eurimages or Ibermedia.

TAX INCENTIVES This text briefly summarizes the highlights of the Spanish Tax Rebate. It is strongly advised to take any accounting, legal or investment decisions upon further consultation with legal advisors and / or a local Spanish production company that can assess your production in deeper detail.

20% Tax rebate for international productions Foreign film and TV productions can access a 20% tax rebate on their eligible spend in mainland Spain if they meet the following requirements: _ The production must not qualify as Spanish. _ There must be a minimum spend of 1Mâ‚Ź. _ The foreign production company must hire the services of a Spanish production company which will collect the rebate from the Spanish Tax Authorities.

Eligible spend: _ Creative staff (director, screenwriter, composer, DoP, main actors, film editor, production designer, sound mixer, costume designer and key make-up artist) with tax residence in Spain or in another state of the European Union, capped at maximum 100,000â‚Ź per person _ Expenses derived from the use of technical industries and other service providers based in Spain: _ Staff (other than the creative staff previously stated) _ Extras and stunts _ Set construction and props _ Location rentals _ Costumes, make-up and hair supplies _ VFX + SFX materials

_ Camera + light, grip material _ Post-production _ Catering and hotels of staff directly related to the production _ Transport within Spain _ Civil liability insurance directly related to the production The production can claim up to 3 million euros in tax rebate, calculated as the 20% of the total eligible spend in Spain.

25% Tax rebate for Spanish productions Investments in Spanish film and audiovisual productions entitle the producer to a tax relief of a 25% on the first million euros of the deduction base, and 20% on the excess of this amount, with a maximum of 3 million per production. The deduction base equals the total cost of production plus -with a limit of 40% of the production costs- the cost of copies, advertising and promotion by the Producer. Of these, 50% of the deduction base amount must correspond to costs incurred in Spanish territory. The aid is granted if the objective requirements are fulfilled. The requirements include, inter alia: _ That the production obtains a certificate of Spanish nationality and a cultural certificate. _ That a new copy of the work is deposited in the Spanish Film Library or equivalent body of an Autonomous Community.

Catalan Regional Funds ICEC is the national agency responsible for supporting film production and cinema in Catalonia. A new strategic plan for 2017-2020 has been designed. However, the new funding regulations have not been implemented before this catalogue went to print. Please contact us for further information.

Development Funding Development support for audiovisual projects from the treatment stage through to pre-preproduction, focusing also on the communication and marketing strategy. It is a non-refundable grant that supports a wide range of genres and formats, from feature films to TV documentaries or animation series.

Production fund (fiction and documentary) Three different lines of funding: _ Projects with commercial ambition aiming at international audiences. Assessment based on industrial criteria: strong financial plan, coproduction agreements (in place or deal memos), coherent marketing and commercial plan with solid artistic content. _ Feature films originated and creatively led by Catalan talent - directors, writers, producers - the content of which may express Catalan culture in some way. Assessment criteria take both industrial and cultural aspects into account. _ Intended for smaller productions, which are likely to take more artistic risks, the line’s main assessment criteria will be based on the cultural excellence of the production.

Television fund (fiction and documentary) Fiction made-for-television productions (movies, mini-series and series) can apply for production funding. TV Movies and mini-series, intended mostly for the local market, are required to have secured broadcasting in Catalonia, whereas funding for TV Series encourages international coproductions. TV Documentaries, aimed at the national market, require the participation of a TV broadcaster that operates in the whole of Catalonia.
